GOLDFINGER | Q introduces Bond to his DB5
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Desmond Llewelyn, who played Q in 17 Bond films, was born on this day in 1914. In this classic scene from GOLDFINGER (1964) Q introduces James Bond (Sean Connery) to his Aston Martin DB5 for the first time.
Rest in peace Sean and Desmond, you both will be eternally remembered.
“Ejector seat, you’re joking?”
“I never joke about my work 007!”
I guess both Sean and Roger Moore are now up there drinking their Dry Martini cocktails while Desmond is producing their Bond gadgets for them. 😥
The way he delivers that line is superb.....
@@orange7536 Thank you for pointing out my mistake, my grammar is not great.
This Aston Martin DB5 was used by Daniel Craig in skyfall to take M out of grid

Absolutely right! What a mess did John Cleese make of being his successor?
@@MrDavey2010 to be fair, that wasn't Johns fault
Monty python and FT proves he knows what he's doing
But the later Brosnan movies weren't exactly well written
Old School Yes I agree with you. The writing was poor.
It's actually kind of fun to see how Q's changed over the years. In the early years he was so serious but by the end, he and Bond were joking and having a good time when they were together (even if they would annoy each other sometimes). It's nice to look back on a happier time and see just how much work was put into this franchise.
"That's putting it mildly, 007"
and now it's gone to the dogs...

One of the best looking cars ever made. Perfect mix between sportiness and class.
The design of the car is italian.
My personal favourite car of all time
Absolutely agree
Desmond Llewellyn originally was going to play Q deferential to Bond, reasoning he must be impressed with him like everyone else. Director Guy Hamilton told him "No, no. You don't like the man! He has no respect for your inventions!" And that's the way he played it ever since!
I think that's why Ben Whishaw's Q doesn't work as well for me. Ben's a great actor, and I find his character charming, but he and Bond are simply not on the same level anymore.
I found it that their relationship started out slightly standoffish but gradually grew to them having a friendship and great respect for each other.
Helios007 definitely, I mean just look at the Brosnan scenes, they look like old mates
@@benjaminhaslam3152 "Don't touch that!... That's my lunch."
I disagree! 😏🍻
@@tadghostal8769 But Q has always tried to teach Bond two things:
1. Never let them see you bleed
2. Always have an escape plan
I had the pleasure of meeting Q - Desmond Lewellyn - on the train from Charing Cross to Hastings - he must have been in his 70’s or 80’s as Pierce Bronson was the current Bond. Nice chap very down to earth.
Sort of sad that he wasn't technically inclined in real life. But he was an actor and played the job well.
You're very fortunate ☺️
I imagine he was sitting comfortably and filling in the Times Crossword. Perhaps a cup of tea as a companion?
Timeless car. If there's one car I'd love to own, it would be the DB5. Unfortunately I only can afford the 1/18 scale one from Hot Wheels 😅

I have the official die cast model from Corgi - equipped with working ejector seat!
"I never joke about my work, double "O" Seven!"
THAT is my all time favorite scene/line!
Really?
That offended look on his face. Priceless.
Mine is when Bond is strapped to a slab of gold with a LASER beam about to split him in two. He asks Goldfinger, "You expect me to talk?" to which Goldfinger replied, "No, mister Bond. I expect you to die!"
Well, I won't keep you for more than an hour or so...
‘Pay Attention 007’ is my fave line.
I love the intense and deathly serious look on Q’s face when he says, “I never joke about my work 007.” Classic.
Rest in Peace Desmond and Sean. True Legends. You’ll be remembered in the Bond franchise forever.
Amen to that .

Sad to see it destroyed too in Skyfall
@@Thel2552 i know so sad 😥
But things could've been very different
Aston Martin were *NOTORIOUSLY* uncooperative during production of Goldfinger, so risked on losing everything they gained from the Bond series
I never did work out why a car with bulletproof windows needed a bulletproof screen that rose up behind the rear window.
You actually see it in the film, namely when he runs the guard shack and the grandma comes out with the MP40, she machine guns the front window and damages it pretty badly, and naturally as your not going to be driving out of the rear when your driving forward, or you need to back up without giving them a clear shot, it saves the rear window and prevents it from being badly damaged or broken as you do so like it was in that scene.
granted your statement is an understandable one given the poor choice of words there, as it really should have been bullet resistant, not bullet proof in the script, as back then the way they did bullet proofing was basically just to put some really thick multi layered glass and then fill the car body with concrete, which under sustained fire like that probably isnt really that accurate to describe as bullet proof either.
but given guy hamilton's son was the one who came up with a good portion of the gadgets, including the very unsafe and very inaccurate to use machine guns, I think its best not to really think about it too hard lol
@@kavinskysmith4094 Cool, thanks!
So you don’t scratch the glass 😂
There is a chance to protect the brightwork on this unique vehicle
Eventually the bullet proof glass fails.
Q has the perfect mix of disdain for Bond because he is uncaring for anyone but himself, and respect because he knows that Bond is the very best and while his inventions never come back, he knows the job was done
Q: Congratulations. You've saved the girl, and destroyed most of my equipment. I hope you're happy, 007?
Bond: Better than saving the equipment and losing the girl, wouldn't you agree?
Q: Oh, 007, I give up.
That license-plate flipper is low-key the most useful thing Q has ever given Bond.
its a triangle shape that gives 3 different plate number.
Petition to add (In loving memory of Sean Connery 1930-2020) at the end of no time to die right before the credits roll
I would add Roger as well since he passed away in between Spectre and No Time To Die.
I watched it last night, and I didn't watch the credits intently (was checking my phone during the credits) but I didn't see any tributes sadly
"I never joke about my work, 007."
Consummate professional as always, Q.
I'm a secret agent on a dangerous mission. I must remain secret, avoid suspicion and detection at all costs
*Drives an Aston Martin*
I can't remember if it was on TV or UA-cam, but I saw an ex-MI5 officer saying agents always drove old bangers to avoid standing out.
A car I could never have
There was also an article from 16 years ago that states that MI5 (James Bond is from MI6, by the way) agents must not be 6 footers or more, or else they will stand out. Sean Connery is 6 feet 2 inches.
@@lorenzopacho936 Quite right, I was getting my MI's mixed up. It makes sense that agents would have to be as bland as possible, so ordinary that they wouldn't just blend in, but be difficult to describe "Be on the lookout for a man (or woman) of average height and build, ordinary looking, no outstanding features."

The best scenes in the new Bond film involved the car. Otherwise an overlong and underwhelming experience
“I never joke about my work 007” has to be the funniest line out of all the Bond films. His facial expression and tone (well, lack of) gets me every time!😂
This was the car that helped me teach my 4 year-old daughter the lesson that knowledge is power. Here's how...
We were watching the scene where Bond uses the ejector seat to expel the Chinese henchman from the car. I then turned to her and said, *_"They call him James Bomb because he always has a bomb in his pocket."_* She dutifully nodded her understanding of my interpretation of how he got his name. But shortly afterwards she began to tug at my sleeve and when I answered she said, *"Daddy, They're saying BOND, not Bomb.",* and I replied, "I know. I'm so embarrassed. Boy, am I glad I didn't say that in front of a stranger. I'd feel like a complete fool." She nodded her agreement. After that she was a grammar nazi. I repeatedly would say stupid things and she would correct me. It is my belief that that one event is what flipped the switch in her brain that said, "Even though I'm little, I can learn things daddy doesn't know, and that is so cool!"
Parents, never belittle your kids. Give them cause to believe they can be greater than you are, and they won't let you down.
That is so sweet! I hope your daughter turns into a lovely woman.
Next lesson for Little Nelly: “Never let them see you bleed, and always have an escape plan.”
(And if you want to go deep, it’s morbid that Desi disappeared into the ground in his last Q scene before passing).

They had the bulletproof screen up and showed us how the machine guns extended and retracted and how the number plates flipped. For all the other gadgets (such as the tire slashers), the sexy woman who was demonstrating the car told us they couldn't show them since the gadgets needed a certain amount of hydraulic pressure to operate and the ejector seat needed a 40 foot clearance which would have hit the roof of the building. Of course all that was BS but we all loved it anyway.
You must have visited the World's Fair with your parents because in the school trips the teachers did not take us to see it. They said "It's not educational enough. The Evil Ascot Company I understand your thinking, thank you.
I think it was for additional protection against severe gunfire or crew mounted weapons.
I remember at 4yrs of age my dad taking me to see this movie! Instantly wanted to be Bond.
I was six years old and Dad took me to this movie for my birthday when it first came out. I was riveted to the whole movie. For me there was no replacement for 007 than Sean Connery.
I always found it funny how they felt the need to test a bulletproof vest on a live person and not a dummy lol
RIP, Sean Connery, the BEST Bond!
This is the original DB5 with gadgets that is still missing to this day ever since it was stolen in 1997....
That was a very nice dark blue jacket.
I'll never be able to watch a Bond movie again without a tinge of sadness and probably a tear in my eye knowing Sean and Roger are no longer with us
Rip Sir Sean Connery one of the best actors ever and Goldfinger was my favorite Bond film of his.
The days when REAL Bond films were great
Yes, when this 1st came out in the cinema in 1964 it was almost too much to take in, to be honest, as we'd never seen anything like it before and we didn't know what was coming next until it happened on screen, and after it was all over at the end of the film it was like having just come off the biggest roller coaster 🎢 ride you'd ever been on...🤯🤯
Wow, what a film 🎥 THAT WAS.. !!!
