  • Bond gets briefed by Q in GOLDENEYE (1995). Desmond Llewellyn, who played Q, got a surprise he wasn’t expecting when they started filming this scene: “A girl is sitting at the desk and suddenly she is ejected. Nobody had told me anything about this beforehand and I had a hell of a shock. I was trying to remember my lines and suddenly there was a whoosh and this girl disappeared from the scene.”

"You have a license to kill, not to break the traffic laws."
That's not actually correct. A License to Kill basically covers every crime up to and including first degree murder. It was the worst crime they could justify in the pursuit of espionage, so a License to Kill is basically a pre-emptive pardon for any crime commited in the service of Her Majesty's Government.
It's not like new trainee agents get a License to Fly-Tip and work their way up to License to Kill.
So Bond was actually acting entirely within his remit when he helped St. Petersburg by creating lots of new construction jobs.

"You have a license to kill, not to break the traffic laws."
That's not actually correct. A License to Kill basically covers every crime up to and including killing someone. It was the worst crime they could justify in the pursuit of espionage, so a License to Kill is basically a pre-emptive pardon for any crime commited in the service of Her Majesty's Government.
It's not like new trainee agents get a License to Fly-Tip and work their way up to License to Kill.

Bond must have thought that it was a weapon of some sort before Q tells him that it's his lunch.

I don’t know man, Goldeneye was pretty serious. The guy that directed Goldeneye is the same guy that directed Casino Royale. This was a light hearted scene but the rest of the film is pretty serious with Bond’s best friend being the villian with his side kick Xenia who killed people through sex. Sounds pretty serious to me.

@@Hitithardify The director maybe the same, however tonally the new Bond movies with Craig are basically like the Dark Knight Trilogy/mission impossible, all dark and moody and stuffs(all the fun are gone). I can't help if you can't see the difference.

@@Hitithardify goldeneye bond was serious yes, but daniel craig bond is a whole different level of seriousness. Whereas goldeneye bond still has light hearted scenes and funny one-liners thrown around, daniel craig bonds feel way too bleak, depressing, dark and serious. Almost like a jason bourne film at this point

@@shane99ca Don't get me wrong. Llwellyn was magic. But how much could he have really been expecting to make? With the exception of License To Kill and too a much lesser extent Octopussy which I'm sure paid better, each of the films couldn't have been more than a day's filming for him and he had a few dozen lines at most. And it wasn't like they were making a load of Q action figures or putting him on the posters or anything.

It's definitely still my favorite Bond movie. It knew how to be fun and goofy while not outright deflating any suspense when it needed it.

Light hearted, yet suave. I am not going to disrespect the classics, but I do have to say I enjoy the humor of this particular era of Bond. It is a movie series that pushes the limits of what you can believe is possible, so might as well have fun and a laugh while doing it.
