  • I'd been feeling like I needed a change in my routine for a while now, but recently everything came to a boiling point. I was feeling overstimulated, over thinking everything and had absolutely no direction creatively. I finally decided I would go on a digital detox for just a week, to help get some stillness back into my mind, hopefully improve my creativity and by the end of it, come out feeling like I had started my way towards creating healthier habits and routines.

I know of a neurosurgeon who switches everything off for one day each week. It was eye-opening that he experienced withdrawal symptoms during the first few weeks.

I didn't realise just how bad my social media addiction was until I deleted instagram, fb and such off my phone for almost 1 year in 2022. It took me SO long to properly get used to just existing without it. I started watching more TV at first, which I never used to do, even started smoking (!) to fill the void it had left behind. Swapping one addiction with another. I was forced to look into why I was so unhappy with myself and life and at first that didn't work out very well for me... but in the end I was so glad I did it and I began to understand myself again. Just crazy what a few apps can do to you!

Oh wow 1 year that’s so impressive!! I bet that felt soo refreshing. Totally understandable that other things filled the void at first, but I’m glad you ended up feeling better afterwards! And you’re right it’s nuts what a few apps can do!
They’re such a big part of a lot of our lives that it feels weird to think of living without them, I guess they’re designed to be that way, to keep us all using them so much 🫠 You’ve definitely inspired me to keep going though, thank you for sharing your experience ❤️

@@sophy333 I can really recommend doing it for a longer period of time and see what happens. I discovered a lot about myself in that time and was at a point where I didn't miss it one bit and even when I installed insta again I just wasn't interested in scrolling anymore. It slowly became addictive again though so I just deleted it again 😂 just so much better off without it. So much more present. Good luck with your journy! I'm sure you will benefit from removing it for longer.💚

having the same problem right now and it’s come to the point the thought of doing a detox scares me because I haven’t experienced stillness in a long time… which is a big red flag😅 this inspired me to do the same

Hi Sophy, interesting themes throughout this video. I can empathise with you on the detox aspect and I agree with you that we need sometimes to declutter our lives/minds and so on.
Being ill throughout most of last month for me has meant that I have not been as creative as normal, in fact I am in a phase where I have been struggling with getting motivated especially as recovery has been slow. But I am glad to say that I am feeling so much better lately and have decided to use the time to declutter my home and take things I no longer need to charity. I think it is surprising to some extent how much we can accumulate over time. From what you are saying though, it can be that our focus on things technological like spending time on the phone or watching you tube channels etc. Can he very addictive as I too am finding out. I love researching things and have a number of interests that can be time consuming as well. By the way I think your process of detoxing seems to be working for you Sophy, as those lovely paintings you did on your I pad were brilliant. And the pottery you did was amazing.
Once again, I enjoyed listening to the video and the in depth reflection on your emotions and innermost thoughts. Anyway Sophy, much love and best wishes and kind regards for sharing this video diary.
As always, keep your chin up and hope to hear more from you soon 😊 👍🖐️x

Hey Paul, I'm so sorry to hear you've been ill for most of the month I really hope everything is okay! I'm glad you're starting to feel like you're on the mend though, that's great news. I'm sure when the time is right you'll be back to creating again, as long as you're well and rested that's the most important thing

Very cool video! I have exactly the same problem so I make these detoxes often. Social media and even just smart phone kills creativity so easily :/ And as you said, you start to feel so much better immediately after blocking those apps.
