Nobody expected the Panthers to come into the Edward Jones Dome and out duel the Rams, but they did just that. The game was volatile, featuring many swings in momentum before ending off a Panthers touchdown in a second overtime period. The game effectively ended the Ram's famous greatest show on turf.

This was the best Divisional Playoff weekend ever. This was the first game, followed by Patriots/Titans in 0 degree weather and Vinatieri kicking the winning FG, Sunday's early game was the "no-punt" game between the Colts and Chiefs and the late game was the "4th and 26" game between the Eagles and Packers.
Damn u remember all that
I thought that the fourth and twenty six game was a year later. It was the year when the Panthers made the Super Bowl
@@thomasnugent7629 This was the year the Panthers made the Super Bowl. They played the Eagles the week after this after the Eagles won the 4th and 26 game and beat them to get to the Super Bowl.
I agree
I remember every game you're talking about except the Pats/Titans game lol. No way I would've remembered they play the Titans. Especially that it was that close. All I remember is that the Pats dominated the Colts in the AFCCG
Nobody knew it yet, but this was the last playoff game played at the Edward Jones Dome.
lmao
Lmao 😂
That's sad man. I think it's awful when teams leave a place. I understand it, but it sucks.
Nathaniel Levesque wow I just realized that. Good job catching that
Indeed - the NFL owes St. Louis.
this loss by St. Louis officially brought an end to "The Greatest Show On Turf".
Was this the last game to be played on the old shitty AstroTurf?
@@stevenhempel2311 I believe so.
They played one more season on the astro turf after this one.
Steven Hempel played on that until 2004.
Well, they still made the playoffs the next year and won a game in the playoffs so I wouldn’t say the exact end. More like Michael Vick ended it
It was a amazing turnaround for Carolina getting to the big game, two years after going 1-15
That Steve Smith TD was, and always will be, a dagger in my heart.
It will always be one of my greatest childhood memories, I had just got to go to my first game and watch them whoop the cowgirls the week before. But I know your pain man and I’m glad y’all won it all last year
As a niners fan I always enjoy it when the rams lose
@@chrisrenshaw6372 how dare you, sir.
I will never forget this one game. It got so nerve racking that I could not watch it, and turn off the game, and listened to the cheers of my neighbors to find out who won. Panthers win!!! Yes!!!!

They were moving the ball right down the field…and a 33 yd FG is no gimmie
It was moronic to pull the offense off the field. They were rolling and had a timeout to work with. But they didn't even take one deeper shot to the end zone.
I'm not a fan of either team but to this day this is one of the best and most entertaining football games I've ever watched

This is why Steve Smith should have retired a Panther.
Blame that jerk Gettleman!
@@ritchietodd409 that is one mistake he made as the Panthers GM. He made a brilliant move by taking, Daniel Jones with the 6th overall pick. And Steve Smith Sr can and should retire as a Panther
one of the most underrated playoff performances by .. Ricky Manning best game of his career and won the game for us. Hell of a route by smitty on game winner though! A classic game without question !
Ricky Manning best game, came in the next game vs the Eagles. Hint hint 3 INTs
This Panthers team really had something special this season. It's too bad they came up just short in the Super Bowl.
One stupid kick, I was at that superbowl 😢
@@inspectorvoid that isn't what cost the Panthers the superbowl. Those dumb 2 point conversion attempts costs them .
I was so exited watching it live with Steve Smith game winning touchdown. Those were the days...
Amazing how much football has changed and grown
Axil Gaming in just about 10 years
Axil Gaming mostly bc of the rule changes
Axil Gaming and made worse tbh.
Changed and grown???
Grown?... HA! More like depleted to being SJW meet and a bunch of divas on the field!
2:25:53 What an amazing play by Manning Jr. Can't really put that one on Bulger, maybe more so on Holt. And Jake Delhomme was so likable and clutch. For what it's worth, he played 10x better in Super Bowl 38 than Cam did in Super Bowl 50, and didn't pout about it after the game.
Hard to believe this was 20 years ago, I remember watching this game vividly
1:54:44 Jeff Wilkins deserves more credit for this play. The kicker comes up gold in more than one way. Almost a shame Mike Martz had to Martz it up
Martz was no Vermeil, that’s for damn sure
Wow Faulk and Wilkins did all they could at the end! Wilkins made the onside kick, caught it and then nailed the tying field goal!
PassitonMatt I have NEVER seen a better executed onside kick. It bounced perfectly, never even hit any player and Wilkins times the jump perfect to gain possession for the Rams. Just unbelievable!
I still remember where I was when this game aired. BTW-The name of the final play is called X-Clown.
one of my favorite teams from 00 10 so underated , tough defensive strong team btw I was at Superbowl 38
So was i.. Sat next to John popper of the blues travelers, got my ticket from ricky proehl #81
I remember listening to overtime on the radio on the way back home after my sisters basketball game that night. I was pulling for both teams as I was a rams fan but lived in nc. I remember crying when smith scored haha
A very conservative play calling by the Rams at the end of the game. That is a shame. They had a shot for the win in regulation.
Cooldrummer I'll never understand why he decided to slow down and play for a field goal.
90 seconds, 1 timeout from the 25. And they only ran 2 plays and a field goal.
Mike Martz's coaching his entire time with that team was super questionable. He underachieved SO MUCH with such a talented roster.
I agree
@@jamesomara3361 like not giving Marshall Faulk the ball on the ground until the 2nd half of Super Bowl XXXVI
The 03 Panthers are such an underrated team. They had lot of entertaining games that season
Legendary game
Battle of the field goal kickers
Marc bulger threw such a pretty pass. You can literally see the shine off the ball when he throws the spiral is so tight.
This game would mark
-The first road playoff win in Panthers history
-The last NFL playoff game in St. Louis
-The first double overtime NFL playoff game since 1986
Orlando pace is insane. The rushers aren’t even trying by the 4th Q . Wow. He should be a hall of famer or sum
mike martzs brilliant coaching on full display
I hadn’t heard much about this game, just that it was a legendary double overtime divisional playoff. I’m really impressed with how John Fox and the panthers limited the Rams possessions
Awesome game from the Cardiac Cats!!! At that time, it was a tough task to win in St. Louis. Just completely loaded on offense "Greatest Show on Turf"
The dome was so loud too. Caused multiple penalties for the Panthers that almost cost them the game
Mike Martz question: why did you dethroned warner and let bulgar took over? warner was a champion and many more
That pick is gorgeous
Steve Smith is the Allen Iverson of the NFL.
nah thats michael vick
Jorje No.
OGMillyMillz dumb comment smh
Dylan Rutherford No, it's not.
on what grounds can you even make that statement Bro Steve Smith is a rare breed of talent who brought it just as hard in PRACTICE YEA I'M TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE as he did in the game . get ya facts straight
Martz's clock management at the end of regulation was putrid.
Loved this Carolina Panthers team
I remember watching this game when I was younger the game that ended the greatest show on turf
Watching this made me feel so bad for those fans in STL.
Especially the ones that left early. I mean same outcome but they missed one hell of a game
I remember this game.
It was krazy.
I was in a chat room giving play to play update during overtime. When one team would seem to have it in the bag……it’d go South. I even typed as the second overtime started (or maybe first) ref said to keep it clean.
We both wanted the Panthers to win.
I was at this game but only got to see the 2nd OT. My Army unit was doing a fundraiser and we were working a concession stand. We were able to shut down just in time to see the OT, and see the Steve Smith TD catch. #KeepPounding
One of the most memorable games I ever saw....FG kickers....woow, Wilkins overthought it. He was money, but popped it too high..s.hort from 50
I’m watching all of the 2003 playoff games
This time was wild because you had the start of the fox box, but not everyone had caught on
Worst call in Rams history. Faulk is on a roll, first down, and you run down the clock to tie. Horrible then and still horrible today. The one play that killed the Greatest Show on Turf!
Only thing I can think of is the fact that Bulger's two INT's were BAD. Would've been killer to throw an INT in that spot. But yeah, I wouldn't agree with that anyway.
Chip Griffiths ya choked
DEAL WITH IT
My favorite Panther game of all time. Very frustrating at times, but both teams traded jabs the whole time.

Look at #90 man. Future Hall of Famer right there.
This game highlights the pinnacle of Panthers team performance in a tough game. The week before though...only 1 accepted penalty in the whole game, and very few called. It was the cleanest game I'be ever seen played.
"The rams had no fans in St. Louis"
Sold out crowd
Sold out every game in those days!
The Rams should have never left St. Louis. Hell, the Cardinals should have never left St. Louis! They need a team again!

i remember watching this game at 9 years old and the chills i got watching this
still to this day, just one question for Mike Martz, Why???
Marc Bulger had a few productive years when he took over Kurt Warner.
He had but Kurt Warner was better in every aspect
Kurt deeply struggled at this time. People forget how much of a dip Kurt’s career went through from 02-06.
@@Joey007ist Facts. I love Kurt Warner and his story from bagging groceries to league MVP, super bowl champion and eventual HOF, is probably the greatest story in NFL history, but he threw a lot of INT's and missed a lot of games due to injury. If it wasn't for his leading the Cardinals to the SB late in his career, he probably wouldn't have made the HOF.
Last game for Kurt warner as a ram and the last time the rams would hold a playoff game in St. Louis after this season everything fell apart.
Thanks to Martz.
I just don't know how the hell you decide to replace Warner with Marc Bulger.
Wow and it just so happened the Rams hosted a playoff game their second season back in LA

My job took me to the City of Charlotte the Friday before the Panthers-Patriots Super Bowl. What an atmosphere!!! The whole city had Panthers fever. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE was wearing their colors, from the clerk at Taco Bell to the little old lady whose lap dog was wearing a knitted Panthers sweater. When I drove by the stadium, vendors were selling Super Bowl souvenirs, so I had to stop and buy some. The game was a tale of two halves...the first half was incredibly dull but the second was great. Too bad the Panthers came up just short...

Jake Delhomme wasn't even as bad as you guys describe him.
Sure he didn't have favorable seasons, games playoffs but he wasn't mediocre.
He didn't have enough strength to push them for a trophy which he was pretty close to in '03.
Oakland Man He had his ups, but a whole bunch of downs. His winning touchdown pass was pretty sweet. But him throwing 5 interceptions against the Cardinals in the 2008 playoffs was not. He was too erratic so they got rid of him.
Jason Summers Yeah that game was brutal. But at least they lost to a Kurt Warner team as Larry Fitz was not ready to go home in his first playoff season.
Oakland Man Amen. Fitz is one of the true good guys in the NFL, and I hope he gets a ring before he retires.
Jason Summers I always wished for him to win one. Thought he would go this year :(
Lindsey Summers I really don’t see him getting it. Rams and 49ers are on the rise while the Cardinals need a QB bad.
Kris Magnum had some wicked cross blocks in this game

The Panthers at home defeated the Cowboys in the wild card round, then went on the road @ Rams, then @ Eagles to make it to the big show. They should have defeated NE. Broke my heart.
This is why you don't shitcan Kurt Warner.
This wasn't an upset per say. Panthers were the 3 seed and Rams were a 2 seed. Carolina was hands down the best team in the NFC, just under the radar that year.
Joel C they were an inconsistent team with a young qb. Due to the panthers winning so many OT games that year, it lead people to believe that the rams should win at home (undefeated during the season at home). all this led to an upset and 2OT made it even more entertaining
Shouldn't the hands down best team in the NFC have the 1 seed and not the 3 seed?
They say hindsight is 20/20 but the decision to start Marc Bulger over the MVP/Super Bowl winner/guy who lead his team to 2 Super Bowls in 3 years was a franchise-altering decision for the Rams. Watching this game, it exposes just how average-at-best Marc Bulger really was. He wasn’t accurate AT ALL. He is easily shaken in the pocket after he gets hit a couple times, and he throws erratic passes consistently when under pressure. He made the Pro Bowl this season but it wasn’t because HE was good, it’s because the team as a whole was already GREAT. He was a game-manager AT best who was handed a legendary offense on a silver platter. Had they allowed Kurt Warner to start the entire season and develop his chemistry w his receivers and get his confidence back, this team probably would’ve made the super bowl as they were head and shoulders the best team in the NFC that season. After this game, the Rams should’ve cleaned house on their entire front office for making that foolish decision. It still sickens me to this day.
Vaughn Viktor i was just talling to my brother about this . sickened me . i HATED bulger . hated martz . faulk starting getting used less and less. Ugh its pissing me off now

What's so wrong about Bulger? He was the only good quarterback the Rams had after Kurt Warner.

15 years later and this game still stings! Martz usually is a pitbull when it comes to slinging the ball. Why he played it so safe at the end of the 4th killed the Rams. Should of killed the clock and took two shots into the end zone. Well being a hard core Rams fan. I am sure happy I have gotten to witness the Rams being crowned Super Bowl champs in 2000. 2018 hopefully will be one more!
GoRams G yeah to me this loss hurt the most it was just devastating Warner days were over or coming to an end anyway Greatest show on turf was declining even though we were a great team that year and Bulger was great it still was never the same. When I tell people that they tell me to them the Superbowl loss to the Pats was the worst and I don't agree with that because we were there we were N.F.C. Champs and that's what you play for.
He didn't fully trust Bulger, he had thrown 2 bad interceptions (and later a third which lost the game). If Warner was in his prime, Martz would have gone for it.

I was at this game!!! Tickets courtesy of Carolina Panther #81
I liked Bulger a lot so I was rooting for the Rams in this one. They lost but it was a hard fought game.
The Rams were a one and done but in double OT that is impressive they could hold off the Panthers that long.
They were favored in the game with a stacked offense and a solid defense, they absolutely should have won this game
@@WavyKid13 I know but just saying how the Panthers went on to only allow 3 points to the top seeded 12-4 Eagles and make the Top seeded 14-2 Patriots kick a last second field goal.

Morgan's penalty on 3rd and long for the Patriots gave them life on that final series.......without Morgan's penalty Panthers might have stopped any last chance long 4th down attempt by Pats deep in their own territory to win that game despite Kasay;s bum kickoff
it's too bad the Rams got that two point conversion they would of had to go FOR a TD and they would if got it just watch the way that drive was going the panthers were probably like oh thank god there gonna play for OT. WTF WAS MARTZ THINKING. MARTZ WASN'T SO SMARTZ THERE.
Like Eli Manning said, it's better to be down 4 than down 3. Because it's all or nothing. That was his mindset on his SB Game winning drive vs the 18-0 Patriots.
This game was decided early. Rams couldn't score in the redzone,6-0 wasn't good enough, and they have a turnover. Brutal.
Hard to believe this was 15 years ago.
The officials tried to give this game to the Rams but the Panthers were having none of it.
