@SouthMetroFireRescuePio Eric and Connor thank you for the shout out and I learned a lot from the vlog. You guys did a awesome job keep up the good work.
The greater alarm fire is an example of one of 'those' incidents with a lot of critical factors adding onto a challenging incident. Awesome work SMFR and great video - very informative.
They did do fleet fridays of red 3 and they also did a fleet friday on rescue 34 that responses to MVA into a structure just look for south Metro fire rescue fleet fridays videos and all the fleet friday video will be their on youtube
Another great video of South Metro at work. That was a very busy time period with all the drought conditions. I hope more people watch these video because maybe people will become more aware of the many different kinds of fire hazards there are out there and will be more cautious in dealing with anything flammable. It sure doesn't take much to lose your home to fire and hopefully these will help decrease the number of tragedies.
When I was working a couple depts we found it beneficial to take our brush truck and go around to a bunch of different high vegetation and places that was a major hazard and do control burns to minimize the fire danger. We would work with the farmers and help conservation depts in our area.
Ngl that fire retardant spatter on the front end of Eric's truck looks kinda cool! Y'all should make that a graphic design for the pio vehicles so resemble fire being put out
Great to catch the vid today. I caught the start this morning and had a fire call to goto myself and then after station return, while doing truck maintenance and paperwork after action report, another pager came in. So that was a quick response for our station (2 rural trucks).
Hi! Thanks for sharing all the videos. It's really interesting to see how our job is different there and here in Europe, but everyone with the same passion. I'll see to send you our patch soon. Greatings from France. 🇫🇷 🇺🇸
Did you happen to follow the major Navy ship fire we had here in San Diego? It's out now and the Navy has commenced their investigations into the cause of the fire and whether it's feasible to repair and return the ship to service.
To expand on this a bit more: The [Incident] Safety Officer (often called ISO) is a member of the command team, usually qualified as battalion chief or higher, who's main focus is risk management. While all other battalion chiefs on scene have a number of units to direct, they are without a directly subordinate unit, free to roam the scene, looking out for additional dangers. You can see examples of those in this Vlog, when the ISO shuts off the power line or when he directs an engine to cut off the gas inside (and then tell incident command about it). They are also responsible for roadside safety, so they'd be implementing lane closures and a step-by-step re-opening plan after the incident, etc. I think the best way to think about it is "a battalion chief without a battalion"...
Sadly fire spread is so rapid in the US because you build so much out of wood with little or no fire protection. Here in the UK (until the advent of cheap shoddy timber framed properties) everything is of brick or concrete construction. By limiting spread we achieve a quicker knockdown. Our first turn rescue pumps also utilise hose reels, not flaked hose, this allows a faster water on time.
when we make fires and barbecues we always have fire extinguishers or the garden hose with water pressure ready in case of emergency greetings from Germany Saarland
Eric, I notice your having some left side eye droop. not sure if pre existing injury, chronic or acute, just pointing it out because your a brother fire dude.
@SouthMetroFireRescuePio I spent some time as a volunteer in highschool with Bossier Parish Fire District 1. I am looking to join a department, and I am extremely interested in SMFR. Does South Metro have a pre requisite list for those looking to apply and go to the academy? I live in Louisiana so I am not familiar with Colorado's specific testing and requirements.
Hi from the Beautiful Rock Bound Coast of Maine. You guys di a great job with the content of your videos. Question, is South Metro a private company maybe affiliated with Rural Metro, or is a governmental agency?
You really need to get live hose reals put onto you’re trucks, it would have made a huge difference with initial attack on all those incidents. I am a volunteer Firefighter in Australia and all our fire fighting trucks have a live real(S) that is our go to at the start of a fire to start initial attach as soon a possible as that helps slow the fire, and just makes things much easer.
Sounds like what you're referring to is the equivalent of what we would call a pre-connect line here in the U.S. It is a hose that is already connected to the truck so the FFs can grab it, engage the pump and start attacking the fire. www.fireengineering.com/2016/07/21/235251/throw-back-to-basics-preconnect-hose-loads/
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you are you're response. On our Pumpers the live reals are 90 metres of 38mm high pressure (850 lpm at 5500 kPa) pressure hose which works amazing. Our Tankers (wildland firefighting apparatus) also have live reals just not high pressure and work great for Grass and scrub fires.
I really want to pursue this as a career. I don’t have a diploma and don’t really have anything great going for me right now. Its been very discouraging and has made me build a lot of anxiety. This is something I could be proud of and that I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. Seems like there’s a lot of good people involved in this. Any pointers on how I can get my foot in the door? Just a suggestion, but many viewers would appreciate quickly knowing "where" South Metro is - without looking it up in your channel's "about" section describing the south metro Denver, Colorado area. You have a worldwide audience with many unfamiliar with the "South Metro" designation.

Can you also do a video on landing air lif
what city are you from
How do you have to jump through fire to get out of the building but call 911 and not know if the building was on fire
Great shot of air assets.
We had Brush Engine 39 pass by going to the fire at County Line and Santa Fe
