Thanks, Chuck! We're always looking for ways to be on the cutting edge when it comes to health and safety and how it will impact the day to day lives of our first responders.
Thank you so much for showing off these wonderful design FD Stations. The Theater Room ( I noticed that retirement center are adding those in for movies night on new build Retirement homes) that is a place I would LOVE to work. The workout Room, a must. The Restaurant style Kitchen appliances. All I can say is WOW. Very nice FD.
I love this video and i love the view of the station, I'm in the firefighting academy at ESEC, basically Wayne Township's Training Ground, I absolutely adore firefighters and I'm so happy to now have the opportunity to become one in a couple of years.
Wow, Love the verticle folding doors. Reminds me of the old Fire Stations, when they use to use horses!.... A Beautiful station, and Great planning. Thank you all, for your services. Thank your families also for us!.....
I was fortunate enough to ride along at the old station 82 back in 2001 when it was still 882. I was assigned to the engine by Lt. Milo. Also had Chief Cranfill as the BC that weekend. Great group of men and women! Made me feel right at home. Even let me participate in ice water rescue training at the tower, which I never had any experience in before. This station is a HUGE improvement over that old house.
Thanks for acknowledging the architectural firm--Axis--responsible for the design of this station, Mike. This is one of the most impressive designs I've seen, and more so because it's a renovation of an existing structure that itself was a repurposed former Kroger grocery store. Just goes to prove that a new house with all the bells and whistles doesn't have to be built from scratch when department administrators work with a design team willing to think outside of the box...or, on second thought, with one agile enough to fit everything that department needs into an existing box. I appreciate what you do, and hope you keep bringing us quality content on your channel. Stay low and go, brother.
Thanks Frank! We have experience with all kinds of sites; from new builds to full renovations. After 30+ stations, we love that we're always being challenged in new ways.
What a great facility, great layout and aesthetics. Confirms for me how far ahead of their time our fire stations are. Our oldest was built in 1975 and features individual sleeping quarters. Now our bedrooms go further and have 3 beds per room so everyone gets an assigned bed of their own (A,B&C platoons). Jack and Jill bath facilities where two bedrooms share one bath. This same design is carried out in our stations built in 1979 and 2000 respectively.
I grew up in Indy and this station is the busiest medic in the department for sure in Engine 82 sure is the busiest engine on the Westside of Indy they go crazy on runs n have the most respectful fire fighters u can ever meet I worked out in that weight n I was getting smoke by a Captain n Chief same time
Thank you for doing these walk through's. If you haven't yet, you should try to tour the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, Southport, North Carolina. They have a sweet unique aerial unit designed to fight fire on a ship.
For me as an architect, it is always super interesting to get an insight into different professions and their „homes“. I spotted already a few things I would do better than their firm. It helps a lot to think about such a task, before it is at hand. Thank you very much!
In my day we had duel school bell in are dorm with a 200w flood light. It would vibrate you out of bed and give you a sun burn at the same time. No wonder I cant hear anything ;)
What a system of teamwork here…the guys put money into a house fund to afford ‘extras’, but the town supports them and makes surethey have what they ‘need’. Likewise, the town hears their needs and supplies what they can, because the crews put in for the ‘extras’.
I was a Firefighter for 32 years in southern Indiana... We would go to weekend long training in Indy.... So we wouldnt have to drive back and forth we would go up on Friday afternoon and get a bunk and a seat on one of the units at Wayne for the weekend..... That was back when they were mostly volunteer... Good times
If your taxes are high that is why dummy! Overkill for the bucket Boys. Fight a fire maybe once a month and soak the city with this overpriced tax payer supplied play ground! Give me a break!
Bifold doors have numerous advantages over roll ups! Almost zero maintenance. Can be opened easily manually and only one side if desired. Chances of failing spring damaging rigs eliminated. Initial cost higher but lasts much longer without repairing/replacing. Opens and closes in much less time. Our new station here on Cape Cod has them and were first in area to do so.
@@JohnHallgren I have come close to hitting 1/2 open doors and know folks who have. 1 Department I ran with had a policy. It was either open 6 to 12" for ventilation or it was all the way up. Nothing in between and since there were cameras on all the doors they knew who did it! First time you got your butt chewed, next time you got time off.

Well isn’t this neat. I actually am an Lt. For Wayne and just caught this video. It was finished in 2012 and we have 5 total firehouses. It’s the only firehouse that was completely razed and started from scratch. We have a stick and a platform ladder and none of our ladders have pumps or tanks. They are true aerial apparatus. All ladder companies in Marion County are this way (no pump/tank), if they do then they are called aerials. That designation went out the door years ago. All departments are pretty much the same in Marion county for standardization.
@@HeroesNextDoor you absolutely nailed it. Chief Rice hit all the high points of that firehouse and the department. I will say the Dept is top tier 1000%. I’m actually at station 85 which is the farthest north firehouse but closest to the Speedway and Drag strips. The Dept stands behind the employees 100%.
