Good explanation. Sliding is most beneficial in really tight turns where you can't keep a relatively high cornerspeed, otherwise more controlled braking and a more controlled chassis deliver a higher cornerspeed.

I ended up spending the whole day yesterday practicing using all the braking potential of the front. I think it’ll be a few days out at the track before I can really integrate the rear brake in with full front brake.

Hey Mike. I have to admit how good content you have in your videos. Really useful stuff. I recently switch onto supermoto. Downshifting, braking both brakes and keeping good body position, line etc. Is still challenging. Could you perhaps prepare some material specifically about braking, downshifting and approaching a corner on this kind of bikes?
I'm wondering in comparison to other YT moto vlogers regarding trail braking, where do you stand in using it on street ride? Yes or No? Regarding dangers of high slide, user mistakes which can lead to crash etc, is there more good or bad coming out of it? Personally I/m not using it but I understand point of more control while leaned over if the blind corner starts to close more rather than open and we apply bit more pressure on front brake and narrow the angle down, that's cool but I just do not feel comfortable with simultaneously using throttle while doing the corner and keeping pressure on brake same time, it just does not feel natural...

There's a parking lot I visit on Sundays, and there's a few tight left turns that I down shift to 1st or 2nd... but I'm on the rear brake all the way to the apex. The bike just feels more controllable, less jumpy as I release clutch and roll on power. I'll give it a shot. I have noticed the rear stepping out on me much more than I'd like. (Modified DRZ S with tuned DS suspension, so not a race bike)

I got a question, when you're braking from high speeds, you squeeze the lever to a maximum braking point quick? Or you progressively squeeze it, the slower you go, the more you squeeze, reaching maximum braking point when you almost slowed down?
Hi Mike. May I have your answer about this question: In this video 4:24, it said "RELEASE THROTTLE, CLUTCH, THEN BRAKE", but some bikers told me RELEASE THROTTLE, BRAKE and DOWN GEARING. What does CLUTCH mean? why not BRAKE then DOWN GEARING?
got to disagree with the rear brake usage on "tarmac" conclusion. There is a lot more to suspension and kinematics which are not necessarily UA-cam topics for discussion. However to elaborate on why I think the conclusion is incomplete is the fact that the squat generated ( Brake squat?) is more of a result of the tangential force on the wheel when braking (break path forces) causing torque to compress the suspension, which btw is very very essential for traction. The SBK race winner does not know that the GAWR weight bias "permits" him to gather traction even otherwise, however it does not imply physics dont apply if you are a racer.

hi, good suggestions on the front brake BUT: i grew up on dirt and now i'm riding a RFVC with drum brake on the rear and i ride it as i stole it quite all the time, the rear brake is still useful and help me so much keeping the right line when i'm turning on mid-fast road turns, to stop the bike faster on the hairpin bend and it helps more-than-a-lot on the dirt to make the rear tunring fast and to control the bike. i suggest to your viewer to study the rear brake as the front!
Don't forget to advise the dangerous parts. All I know is if I was to wreck . I would let my body go limp like a noodle ,less of a chance of getting hurt.

The rear brake is for two things. Brake skids and bringing wheelies down.

Yes, you should be relaxed but not entirely, you should press your chin to your chest and your hands to your body.
