That scene between Stannis and Shireen it always brings me to tears, it's so important for his character, and that's the stannis i know. Shireen needed to hear that.
Got fans are the worst. Every reaction channel they try to spoil and influence the reactor.

The Targaryen music started playing when Ser Barristan started fighting.. that felt majestic.

Well, they basically killed Barristan because Tyrion is on his way to meet Daenerys. Shame. He managed to kill 15 people, less or more, in that age without an armor.

Pointless death. His character arc was absolutely useless. Anticlimactic.
Streamlining the story for the medium it's being presented in. It would have taken many more seasons to go into all the storylines and side stories in the books. Entire story lines and characters were not even used in the show. At least we got to see a glimpse of Barristan the badass. Would have liked to see more.
He got a better death than 99% of characters.
@Ali Chaudhry You are right. Season 3 and 4 make big mistakes and they simply stopped adapting the remaining book material in season 5 and onwards. D&D didn’t run out of book material they decided they could do better on their own
Huge shame and waste of a fantastic character
The conversation Barristan Selmy has with Daenerys on the balcony of Meereen and the one Littlefinger has with Sansa in the Crypts of Winterfell. Both conversations are as intriguing as they are unassuming. 🤔
Ser Barristan Selmy... A soldier's first and highest duty is to defend the people they serve. This is why soldiers usually only fight other soldiers in battles. Ser Selmy "died" honoring that duty, be it in an alley or on the battlefield. He fell defending the city, the queen, and the people, but especially, defending his fellow soldier, Torgo Nudho, the Grey Worm. He, indeed, fell the way he served: With honor, and courage.
This was the first episode i wanted tommen to be a little bit like joffrey

Well, Ser Barristan Selmy lives in the books. this was one of the many production decisions that did not make much sense in the series. There will be more in the future, sadly...

About Lady Melissandre - the problem with Lord of Light's champion is, that interpreting those prophecies is a hard thing to do and it seems different red priests and priestesses do differ in their view of things. Lady Melissandre thinks the champion must be Stannis because the prophecy talks about the rightful prince, so she was looking at Stannis naturaly (second in line after Robert and first after Robert's death), but for example Thoros of Myrr successfuly brought Berrick Dondarion back from the dead several times and Berrick could ignite his sword with his blood, which Stannis could not perform... And there are those who thinks it's neither of them.

She sent Jorah away and Dario "had to" protect her. I believe Jorah would've been able to help if he hadn't been exiled. That conversation with her and Sir Barristan was so beautiful and sweet. And I had the same reaction during Stannis's story.
I just witnessed her weep when Stannis the Mannis was talking to the Princess Shireen of the house Baretheon. What a breakthrough 👑

We just saw the first glimpse of the new king's mettle, and it's not very inspiring. He's like a glitchy video game hurriedly thrown into the store before the creator (Tywin) could put finishing touches on it. What difference in temperaments between him and the previous king. This one would rather read poetry and play with his cat. Mild mannered boy, never intended to be the ruler. But for Cersei to arm the Faith might not be the best idea, as fanatics don't tend to stop where you intend them to stop. She was feeling increasingly isolated with the Tyrell grip getting tighter in the capital.Her act was an act of desperation, not strength. Funnily enough I think this is how King Robert felt in his last days surrounded by Lannisters. The tables have turned.
Oberyn's daughters (only one of the three is by Ellaria) are Nym (short for Nymeria), Obara, and Tyene (the youngest, Ellaria's daughter). Three of the "Sand snakes" (I believe they said that Oberyn had 8 or 9 daughters, known as the sand snakes). As adaptations of massive books often need to be streamlined for movies or TV shows, they chose to only depict three of the sand snakes.
I think bastards from Dorne have the last name of Sand. Hence the Sand Snakes. All those girls are Obernys. But only one is Ellarias.

As for Barristan's death, if I can paraphrase Tywin Lannister: "Game of Thrones didn't die on his watch. Killing him off was as insulting as it was stupid."
To be SOMEWHAT fair to the show, Barristan wasn't wearing any armor in that scene, and he's used to fighting in full plate armor. That being said, this scene doesn't happen in the books at all, and he's still alive where George Martin left him off.

I remember in Season 1 when Ned told Ser Barristan that 'he was glad he didn't meet him on the battlefield in Roberts rebellion coz Catlin would have been widowed '. And yeah, he gets killed off in an alleyway to amatuers. One of the badass knights, second to few like Ser Dane.
The Harpies are not amateurs, they are private guards who lost their job as slavery was abolished. Trained soldiers. Many of them.
At the core of Baelish's plan was the prospect of the historical alliance of the Vale and North that once took down the "greatest dynasty the world's ever seen". It gave Baelish the flexibility to move against the Lannisters in tandem with the North, but also against a depleted Stannis or Bolton if it came to that since he still had Cersei's ear. It's also clearly implied Baelish hoped Sansa would eventually wear the pants in the marriage and Baelish could then rule the North by proxy. But Ramsay being a monstrous sadist threw a wrench in everything. His mistake was overestimating how much control Roose had on his son. The plan was excellent, Ramsay was the fatal flaw in it. Some of the folks who hate watch these reactions will go to comical lengths of cynicism to shit on the show without realizing most of their hive mind talking points have no merit and can be easily picked apart.
The King's Blood Melisandre is always talking about refers to the Targaryen blood aka dragon blood. The Baratheon have it cause Robert, Stannis and Renly are grandsons of a Targaryen princess (Rhaelle). Still, dragon blood, being the rightful king and being the Chosen One of the Red God's religion are three different concepts.

I thought Ser Barristan went out like a gangster. He was heavily outnumbered.
When people complain about the scene, they are complaining about the situation. Imagine a US 3-4 star general, wandering alone in Taliban territory with just a hand gun and he gets ambused. It doesnt matter how badass he is before dying, he will still be called the dumbest person alive
So it doesnt matter if Barristan killed a few people before dying, the former Lord commandar of the Kingsguard and the veteran of a 1000 battles wont wander around unarmored and alone in enemy territory
Ser Barriston died a heroic knight's death with blade in hand. He killed over a dozen of them in close quarters, something that few if any swordsmen could have done, especially at his advanced age. I loved his character and understand your grief at his passing. But realistically no one could have survived that alone and he tried to save Grey Worm who is the best of the Unsullied.
i think it was only like 6 if he did not kill more before entering the alley
@@skaraturbo I just rewatched the scene and counted 10, perhaps 11. And once Grey Worm killed the last one while Selmy still lived, then Ser Barristan the Bold won his final battle.
It was nice for Dany to hear anything nice said about her family. Ser Barristan saying nice things about Rhaegar must have been good for her to hear, since all she hears is about the Mad King and her shitty brother Viserys. And it is a little weird that in one episode we also hear Little Finger talk about Rhaegar and Lyanna at a tournament and him giving her flowers when he's still married to Elia Martell.
It was interesting to listen to you analyze Melisandre's sudden interest in Jon Snow. As I've pointed out before in past comments, I'm impressed with your deductive reasonings. You have a talent. As you were verbalizing your thoughts, I was thinking of how it was similar to Tyrion deducing who his new found captor was and his motive. However, you were not able to come to a satisfactory conclusion, but do keep in mind that Melisandre does have the ability to see glimpses of the nature of people. Recall what she said to Arya when she took possession of Gendry. File away your piqued interest of Melisandre's motive for later.

Don't worry about Grey Worm being stabbed through the gut. In these later seasons plot relevant characters are invincible. Khal Drogo was just soft apparently.

Well the Lore is not wrong, he was a legendary fighter and hero. As many have noted Sir Barristan is still alive in the books and has a significant ongoing role in the books which the show did not follow. Needless to say this really pissed off the book readers due to this extreme deviation from the plot.
Interesting perspectives on Rheagar in this episode. Those scenes (Dany and Barristan, Sansa and Baelish) are probably my favorites.

Yes, the creators of the series simply did not understand what to do with the character of Barristan. In the books, he is alive and will most likely live for a long time. Barrstan is the best warrior in the Seven Kingdoms and in his years could easily deal with at least twenty such harpies. It's just nonsense, and it's going to stay
Can we take a moment to talk about how stupid Jorah is? He gets banished but somehow thinks taking Tyrion to meet Dany will wash away his betrayal.

I used to like season 5. I still think it's quite good but so much of it is just pointless. Jaime and Bronn going to Dorne for example. It just seems like a contrived way to get Jaime out of the capital whilst stuff happens. Nothing about Dorne is relevant to the plot. Nothing significant really happens except the thing with the minor character but even that has no real consequences.

And THIS is what people complain about when they talk about the scene, no one expected him to kill 100 people alone. The entire situation is stupid and un-necessary, which is what fruturates people

I forgot how much I hated most of the season. The show runners feel like they need to kill somebody just because they don’t know how to write a good story without it, Even if the character lives on in the books. What a waste what a stupid waste.
