This was awesome I’m out in the country and worked on cars for a few years but have been out of practice for close to a decade now. This was a big help thank you

Explains everything perfectly. My tool didn't fit though
TyAnna, I appreciate the feedback! Ford uses 2 sizes, 3/8" for all F-150s and some Super Duty's (I say Super Duty, but it is mainly the older F-250s) and 1/2" for Most Super Duty's. - Stiles
There's a way to do this without the special tool. You use sleeves of plastic cut from a plastic milk carton . 1/4 or a little wider by about 1/2 to 1 inch . After using a penatrint spray to clean and losen the clip inside the fitting. You can work the plastic sleeve in between the line and clip inside the fitting ( you are feeding the 1/4 " end in between the line and fitting ) by doing that you are able to pull the ridge on the line over the clip . This allows you to pull the line out .
John, Good tip! It may come in handy in a pinch. Of course, the proper Tool for the job makes life so much easier, and in this case the Cooler Line Tool ( Lisle 39660 1/2" x 3/8" amzn.to/3m9eeQ2 ) is under $10 and the better Cooler Line Tool (Assenmacher 8021 3/8" amzn.to/3dRlCet ) is under $20. I get it, sometimes these are once in a lifetime jobs for some people, so if the Tool is expensive a work around is the way to go!
In my case, I had to cut the line, take the Connector to the Vise and spray it, work it, spray it, and work it. My Connector was extremely dirty.
Thanks for the comment, my goal is to help people and your tip may prove helpful in the future! - Stiles

Ah. In this video you’re showing the inside of the cooler line fitting where the near, inside plastic collar is pushed out by the Assemacher/scissor line removal tool, and the farther inside, O ring sets in a groove on the inside, which is the piece that failed in my case. The other videos really need to all be linked
This was an attempt to make shorter videos, I like to make videos with everything you may need in one video, but then the length becomes an issue for people. Based on your comment, I updated the video descriptions and included a link to the other videos and the end screen of each video has a link. Are you able to give me a part number or exact size (ID, OD and thickness) of the O-Ring that you used? I will add it to the video description as well! Thanks - Stiles
I need to know if you can remove the quick disconnect fitting from the radiator it's self 2005 expedition
Don, It appears that your Radiator is unique to the 2005 thru 2006 Expedition & Lincoln Navigator, but your Transmission Cooler Line Connectors should be like I show in my video, removal able. It looks like you have 3/8" lines (and likely are), but they may be 1/2" (like most Super Duty Trucks). - Stiles
Hey I have a 2018 f150 5.0L where the cooler is mounted to the trans. That said I have a leaking connection at the front of motor where the quick connect line is connected to one of the 2 lines running back to the cooler. These are down at the front of engine under the pulleys etc. One of them appears to be leaking coolant. Is there an easy fix without having to replace the expensive OEM lines ? We were talking about bypassing the steel lines and just running rubber quality fuel line so it never rots again.
Cee, Yep you cold replace Steel rusted Lines with Rubber Hose. Of course, replacing with OEM Lines would be better. Just be careful of two things: 1) use the correct type of Hose, (your average Parts Salesman, if out of one type of Hose will try to substitute another type) There is Vacuum Hose, Fuel Hose and Transmission Fluid Hose, 2) Hose when mated to Steel Line should have a Flare on the Steel Line (I assume you will just cut the Line and stick a Hose onto it and then use a Hose Clamp), if you don't flare the Line, then I would ensure the Hose is on the Line at least 2 inches and I would use 2 Hose Clamps on each end offset 90 degrees from each other. Its hard to believe your 2018 has this problem already, Ford should have corrosion protected these lines better! - Stiles
How do you insert the new lines into the quick connectors? Do you need to use the tool or just press them together?
David, Nope, Just put the tip of the Transmission Cooler Line into the QD, then push it in until it clicks, attempt to pull the Cooler Line back out (to ensure it is locked in). That is it! - Stiles
Any link to an after market connector. Ford says they don't make them anymore and only service the radiator.
Brandon, This amazon link (see below) says they have "one". Dorman has a 1/2" line connector, but I don't see a 3/8" Connector from them, if you find one, please give me the part number, I'll put it in the video description to help others. - Stiles

I'm replacing the cooler and would like to see how to remove the water lines off the 2017 supeduty 6.7
Dash, The Engine Coolant (you said "water" but mean Coolant) Connections to the 6.7L Transmission Fluid Cooler are also quick disconnect, but different than the Transmission Fluid Lines. If you do a You Tube search for "ford coolant quick disconnect" a number of videos come up. You have the Black Coolant Line with White Locking Tabs. And you may have an additional 90 degree elbow that uses the same Quick Disconnect on the Line and on the Elbow at the Cooler, take it off which ever way is easiest, but save and reuse the Elbow. Your Transmission Fluid Lines are similar to what I show in my video, but your lines are 1/2" (not 3/8" like mine). That's the best I can do for you. - Stiles
Can you just take off the 27 and 26 fittings with a wrench and bypass the quick release?
Timothy, Yes, If your Trans Fluid Line is not dirty and corroded like mine. The Line should turn inside the Quick Disconnect. I replaced my Lines anyway, so I cut one of the Lines, used a Socket on the QD then when to the Vise on the Bench to remove the line from the QD. - Stiles
Do you know if these will work with the 03 Ford Lightnings? They are QD
Richard, I don't see Quick Disconnects on your Lightning, I see threaded connections on the Transmission Lines, on the Transmission Cooler, and . . . there is a Lightning Radiator that is 2" Thick with Quick Disconnects in the Parts Catalog. That being the case I don't see the correct Transmission Cooler Lines, and Ford Parts .com doesn't help. So, yes you likely have Quick Disconnects at the Radiator, but other 2003 F-150s probably do not. - Stiles
If I've got a leak at the top connector, is it likely that the connector needs replaced or does the line need to be replaced?
Chealocean, Probably just the Connector, the Cooler Lines are more protected up there by the Radiator. The Line could be corroded, but unlikely. I'd take care of your leak as soon as possible and check/add Transmission Fluid regularly. - Stiles
Can I remove the lines and only use the air cooler(secondary) without any harmful effects ?, Ford Ranger 4.0 2004
Jay, Yep, on modified Cars I've increased the Cooler capacity and plumbed directly to the Transmission Cooler. And remember to plumb the Lines so the Cooler fills from the bottom! - Stiles
I just changed my motor and when I disconnected them I unscrewed them and the pieces fell on the inside of the radiator so they were very hard to get back connected
James, Yep, they are intended to be a Quick Disconnect and not under screwed, but you can unscrew them. You have to be careful. Hope my video helped! - Stiles
Can I get a part number for the 3/8" quick disconnect fitting?
All i can find is the 1/2"
Cheyen, They come installed on many (all I have seen) of the aftermarket Radiators, so I don't know why they aren't available from someone. But, I don't have a good source for them. - Stiles
The dorman connector listed on here says it’s for a half inch line. That’s not going to work for the 3/8” line…. Confused
Geromia, Nope, you don't want to use the Dorman Connector on F150s the 1/2" is for Most Super Duty Trucks. O'Reilly's will sell it to you for the F150, but it is not right. You need - - Trans Cooler Line Connector 3/8" @ Radiator Ford amzn.to/3E1oSyp Be sure to read the note under the 3/8" Connector! If you order the 7D273-A and it is not correct, please let me know. It does not work. It is the same as the dorman one with a half in connection

Rangilal, I put a link to 2 different tools in the video description, just click on them! - Stiles
Could I just take the entire thing out, including the insert sleeve along with the line without using the tool, then installing it in the new radiator?
Stephen, Yes, you can, if . . . if the Quick Disconnect was new, you could. If your QD is as dirty as mine was, you'll have to play with it, plan to use a lot of Part Cleaner and/or PB Blaster. Let me know how it goes! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive It worked out smoothly. Took the insert out along with the connected coolant line from the original radiator, then took the new insert/connector out of the new radiator and put the line in with the old insert. I used a big crescent wrench on it .
@@stephen6945 Stephen, I don't know if you read a bunch of the comments here, those Quick Disconnect Fittings are like Gold, Ford doesn't sell them. At least most of us can't figure out how to get them from Ford Parts. Keep them in a safe place, like the glove compartment, for your use later! Glad it worked out! - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive wow I didn’t know that I’ll be sure to keep hold of them. Thank you!
I have 03 250 6.0
Will this work?
The F-250 and Super Duty Trucks use a similar Quick Discount but it is 1/2" Diameter and the F-150 (Shown) is 3/8" Diameter Transmission Cooler Line. And so a bonus to you Super Duty Guys you can buy a replacement QD at a number of Auto Parts Stores, Dorman make one. The F-150 QD is a challenge to find. - Stiles

Subb, Yep, it could have been a hard or easy fix, depending on where it was leaking. @@StilesAutomotive well imagine having the cooler lines replaced but because I didn’t pay them a diagnostic fee of $150 they replaced it and said they couldn’t guarantee that will stop the leak, then I discover after power washing the excesss trans fluid exactly this spot where it is leaking from and I am now picking up the parts to diy this myself now all thanks too you 🫡🙏🏽
Why can't you just take a wrench and spin that nut out?
Larry, Are you talking about the Quick Disconnect Nut? Yes, I cut the Cooler Line and removed it with a Socket. You may be able to remove it with the Old Cooler Line in it, if the Line will turn in the QD. - Stiles
@@StilesAutomotive thank you all I'm doing is removing the radiator so I can put a timing chain in the engine. But I ended up finding the scissors and have the lines out anyways
