I own the Seal Performance in Thailand and I love driving it. I tested the temperature of the glass roof on my channel and it performed better than any protection film I’ve seen. My car came with a sun shade which I have put it back in it’s bag. I hooked the V2L up to my home solar and I’ve effectively got 6 Tesla PowerWalls of backup power.

I thought the same, but honestly, for what you get in the premium versus the performance, it's worth the extra couple of thousand. Money can be earned back, happiness..probably not.

I felt the exact same when I test drove the Seal performance. Gave it a good hour around both city streets and motorway, and handled both effortlessly. Week previous I test drove a model 3, and whilst its hard to fault it either, for me, personally, the retention of physical stalks/buttons makes the driving experience holistically better. As many have said, the new model 3 was crying out for a HUD, but never materialised. Also, as others have pointed out, some of the software of the Seal was annoying (e.g. speed limit warning, lane departure, etc) but this can be tailored via updates. Hardware cannot. Coming from driving BMW ICE for the past 10+ years, I'm happy the transition is to BYD. Interior/exterior quality is excellent and really a pleasure to drive. If I were to stick with BMW and go electric, the equivalent i4 (M50) would be circa 90 to 100k euro. Close to double of the BYD seal performance. Deposit down, and can't wait until it arrives early January.

Nice simple straight to the point "real time" review. I'd still like an honest back-to-back review of the premium RWD and performance AWD. I have a premium ordered but want to compare with the performance. 10k difference is not easy to brush off, and I haven't heard what the difference is approximately between the cost of insurance of the two is.

Nice review.... Comparing heat from the Model 3 glass roof to the Seal is important to me, as is how well the cooled seats work. It's more important to me to get a vehicle that gets the hardware right rather than the software tech. Even if not perfect now, software will improve over time. I also couldn't care less about autopilot type tech much preferring to drive myself. In a nice vehicle, driving is a pleasure, not a chore :)

I own both the Atto 3 and a Tesla Model Y, and I still think the "tech" in the Tesla is far superior to the BYD. I haven't driven a Seal yet, but IMHO I still think the Tesla (both M3 and MY) look better, both on the outside and inside. My wife primarily drives the Atto and she's jealous of all the extra features the Tesla has over it. I think it's great BYD have brought out a competitor to the Tesla (mainly the Model 3) and it's priced very well. I think it will sell a lot of units here!

It's the vehicle itself that interests me most, not all the tech/features. That stuff can be upgraded via OTA updates though the quality of the car, how it drives, indicator stalk and lack of heat from the glass roof.... All that stuff is hardware and has to be perfect the first time around. In another comparison they also indicated the cooled/heated seats in the Seal do a better job than the new Model 3 also.
Either way I still don't believe the Model 3 and Seal are direct competitors. Those who want the latest tech will opt for a Tesla, and those who want a traditional car (just electric) such as myself will probably opt for the Seal. It is less of a departure from what we know and unless there's a genuine significant benefit, for myself at least that gives me confidence driving it.
That said, I too would prefer a Model 3 or Y over a Atto 3. I'm not a fan of it's interior which I think is probably more attractive to a younger audience rather than my own middle age aesthetic preferences. Seal in the flesh seems considerably more up market.

@@mjw25a1 I'd vouch for the fact that the BYD seal looks, feels and is more impressive in "real life" versus that portrayed on video. As someone who's driven BMW for 10+ years, I'd say it's easily comparable, if not superior, in interior and exterior build. I'd never go for an Atto 3 (not my type of car) but the Seal is an excellent sedan, inside and out. IMO, if you're in the EV market, it's at least worth a good test drive before decisions are made.

Yes, but when you were driving the Tesla Model 3 standard range you had the AC turned off. I could tell this when you were in the AC screen. So you cannot compare the cars by this perimeter. Tesla also use thermal glass on the roof glass panels. You cannot compare the Tesla Model 3 standard range with the performance Seal.

this is better. model 3 LR 0to60 is 4.2, this one is 3.7 seconds. this one also way more comfortable because y don't ear the cracks and rattles y ear on teslas cars. my 2023 model y was making ratling noises on the first month of ownership and felt like oven on 90+ Fahrenheit unlike this one also the AC doesn't go all the way to your head it stops at your face level basically. teslas have higher charging peak but byd have a nicer charge curb so difference in charging speed is less than 3 to 5mn for 10 to 80% or 0 to 100% probably
