- Ukraine has received M270 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to counter the Russian onslaught. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced that his nation has received its first tranche of M270s. The Ukrainian defence minister did not specify which country provided the M270 MLRS to Ukraine. Watch the video to know more about the Ukraine war.

When it comes to pure artillery fights, range and information are king. Have the advantage in both and you can hit what you want from outside the enemy range.
HIMARS and the M270 systems are not new. I remember when they were in the development phase some forty years ago. If you think they are impressive now, just imagine what the follow-on systems have in store.

ATACMS needs to be provided too for Crimea and reserve area in the Donbas.
This explains why the Black Sea fleet has fled sevastapol. The USA may have decided not to send the long range missiles with the HIMARS, but the UK haven't made the same agreement.
Indeed - if the MLRS was used, then they would sink every Russian ship in Sevastopol without hitting any civilian at all. The Russians are using dumb strategic missiles because they've run out of the more modern variety. MLRS could put the missile on each ship tied up in port.
Ukraine has been warned that Kiev will be destroyed if one missile hits Crimea. Russia has been playing nice in my opinion. Russia will level all decision making centres, power grids, etc. Can't say Kiev was not warned.

We need agree on a handful of most efficient weapon systems and then start production lines for them and ammunition supplies so that Ukraine can be kept fully stocked at all times. After that, Ukraine can start literally raining death on the Orcs.. in masses. That's what it will take to beat them back from _all_ of Ukraine, including Crimea.
They don’t NEED masses of these weapons, the us army is built to have many extremely lethal pieces of equipment, not numbers. We have vastly less artillery than Russia but it doesn’t matter because ours outranges theirs and is way better guided
@@anguswaterhouse9255 No, you're wrong about that. You DO need quantity as well. The US hasn't fought a large scale war since Vietnam.. and I'm not sure if even that was really large scale.
By large scale I mean, against a seriously equipped and numbered opponent.
US might be able to pull it off against Ruzzia in Ukraine with more limited about of equipment, but they'd still need the support of combined arms, like the airforce.
If Ukraine is to start a serious counter attack, they're going to need A LOT of artillery support as well, on the width of the whole front. A handful of weapon systems just can't pull it off in a timely manner and probably range wise either.

The U.S. doesn't have large quantities of MLRS, HIMARS, artillery etc.
What it has is a large variety of various precision weapons. They are force multipliers.
These aren't intended to be used alone. They are meant to be a mixed variety of technologies that combined are devastating. Thus large quantities of any one weapon isn't needed.
Note that the 12 HIMARS are already having a major impact. And more are on the way.
@@omegaz3393 I'm hoping we get them at least a limited quantity of the ATACMS. A hundred or so to use on occasions when long range is needed. Also the M270, which is beginning to trickle into Ukraine, is supposedly being upgraded to fire a 500km rocket. That would be some serious range if we'd give it to them. The thing with Ukraine's air Force is their dated missiles that have no internal guidance system and have to remain linked to the plane for guidance all the way to the target. The Ukrainian pilot has to fire the missile and remain flying behind it flying towards the enemy in a straight line. If he even turns the plane a few degrees the missile will lose the up link to the plane and strike who knows what/where. They need some F&F advanced air to air and air to ground missiles that are self guided once they're fired. That alone would be a HUGE upgrade.

These new artellery systems of ukraine are in mint condition. Russia's artillery has seen a lot of long non-stop use and are now close to or already used up and with a lot of wear and thear. I wonder how long until we start hearing about russian artillery blowing up from eccessive use?
There 2 videos of a Russian rocket leaving the tube when at about 100 feet up it flamed out and fell back on the launch pad and destroyed the launch vehicle and crew. In the other video, the rocket left the tube and flew in a perfect circle and came back and blew up the launch pad and crew. It is already happening

On the contrary. The ATACMS are looooong range missiles...with a range of 300 km.
300 Kms in considered short range. A missile is only considered long range when it can cover 1000 kms.

I have copied this from Britannica. Lockheed martin only cares about making it's product look attractive and thus they may pitch it as a long range weapons when effectively, it falls under short range.

Assuming ten(10) M270's deployed and shooting 50 sockets per launcher per day, 3 months operation can fire about 45,000 rockets. It is lots of fire power. Russia army will have hard time for a while.

M142 HIMARS was Introduced in the 1990s while the M720 MLRS was introduced in the 1970s by the US . But it was upgraded so system is already high precision weapons to operate supply to Ukraine

atacms munition w/ a range of 150 -300 km should be available on ukraine's mlrs as d momentum n tide of d battle is getting in on ukraine's favor in order the invaders to be pushed back farther where in russian ammo depots were relocated 100 kms away from d frontline to avoid being hit by these mlrs
Yes the 300 km range has already had an effect...Russia is pulling all of its warships and subs out of Sevastopol as they are in range there, so they have lost their biggest naval port in the black sea. while they may be able to run away, the Kerch bridge cant so should be the next thing to go.

Everytime these things fire, they are exposed to drones and will be found.
I just don't see how so few of these can be useful when they are so expensive.
Meanwhile Russia just bombards with so many more rockets and artillery, because Ukraine is not keeping any depots exposed, Russia doesn't have that many targets anymore.

When MLRS was used in Gulf War 1, the Iraqi soldiers feared it immensely because with the cluster bombs, there was nowhere to hide. Despite Cluster bombs being removed, the rockets are incredibly accurate, so none of Putin's ammo depots are safe. If the Russian Orcs are really firing 20,000 rounds a day, their artillery and ammo dumps will be found and wiped out. The HIMARS had a significant effect on the Russian Artillery and some Russian soldiers admitted on phone intercepts that they'd run out of 152mm ammo because the ammo was destroyed.
The Russians will respond to this threat by dispersing their ammunition caches more widely and in smaller quantities. Furthermore, they are tracking the HIMARS with drones and published footage of it. If they can track them, they can destroy them with missile strikes of their own. These launchers are no miracle weapons.

Don't be naive. The situation will adapt to the threat. The penny packet introduction of these systems will allow the RF to disperse their logistics. Each time they fire one of those delivery systems it is a step closer to destruction. If I were the RF, I would be stepping up targeting combined with a more bold use of Air and Aviation, accepting more loses but destroying those deep assets?
A day without a new "game changer" is a day wasted. They will all be located, targeted and destroyed or captured or even sold in the dark market.

I am surprised the Russians haven’t destroyed them all ? Also their weapons are very inaccurate how can they hit a small individual target when they can’t hit the right building. M270 is bad news for the butcher.
Ukraine destroyed 13 high value targets with just 8 HIMAR's. It will be interesting to see what logistical damage they inflict on Russia with these units
The Russians had already moved their command centres and ammunition depots away from the front line after Ukraine received the M777s and Caesars. They are going to do the same thing to put them out of reach of the HIMARs. That said, this will complicate the supply to the front line.
I'm more interested in how long will it take the Russian's to take out these handful of rocket systems, thus leaving the Ukrainians without any major firepower.
