***** In all honesty, I much prefer vocational programs for post-junior high school students that caters to their preferences rather than throwing numerous sh*t at them not gaining their interest. Dropout rates would probably be even lower if students had the chance to study more of their criteria and not what is recommended by the government (math and reading being the primary requirements).
Not similar to Federalists but education for the past generations are more of "control" -type atmosphere.

Gary Johnson's Libertarian party kind of cost Clinton Flordia, since that 2% likely would've gone to her had he not run. It's called the spoiler effect -- once two major parties are large enough, it's pretty much impossible for a third party to run without giving a major candidate a leg-up. We had so many different parties pre-1860 because the country was young enough; now it's much harder with First Past the Post to get third parties in the spotlight.

John Adams was not ousted because of the sedation act. He was ousted due to conflict with Alexander Hamilton who held most control of the Federalists. Adams was much more of a loner, who did not seek allies and friends to get his vision through. When he then began bickering with Hamilton over dissolving the newly formed American army, Hamilton withdrew his support and the Federalists did not support Adams a second term.
The Sedation act did not come out of nowhere. It was created because of ongoing tensions with Revolutionary France, who had made a series of provocative actions from the quasi war to the xyz affair. Jefferson's allies never stopped supporting France through all of this and became very unpopular because of it. Adam's administration tried to remain neutral, but France seemed more and more provocative and England seemed more level headed and was an important trading partner.
At the height of a possible outbreak of a war, the Alien and Sedation act was passed, with the people's support.

Great video! Jackson himself deserves an in-depth look. You are a student of history so you understand when I say that the judgement of Jackson in modern times is typically based on surface information alone. He was pro-slavery and anti-Indian and immediately he is evil, but when you look a little deeper you invariably find those hidden gems of his personality and his life. He was and still is the quintessential American. Good and evil. The problem is that we modern people do not take the good with the bad, we just take the bad and that is historically irresponsible. So it is my hope that if you ever do delve more deeply into this subject that you continue on your path of truth and factual information, because it is too easy to become bogged down in the lesser angels of Andrew Jackson's nature.

What I learned from this video is:
    1. That 2016 wasn't the first time a Clinton lost a presidential election
    2. American politics have been "peaceful" before
    3. 2016 wasn't the first crazy election
    4. 2016 wasn't the first time a candidate accused another candidate of corruption
    5. 2016 wasn't the fist time where supporters of one candidate hatted the other
    6. 2016 wasn't the first time where the popular candidate lost
    7. Jacksonian democrats are now trump republicans

Cody, just a minor correction to the Jacksonian Democrats; the principals the party was based on where codified by Martin Van Buren in New York in 1819 as a result of the Missouri Comprimise and how it might affect his dispute of control of New York (state) politics with De Witt Clinton. (And no, he wasn't a relation of the Clintons (as far as I know).)

This was the era of Burkean Conservatism, Classical Liberalism and radicalism. The US being far more independent minded would resist elitists controlling govt and both the Federalists and the National Republicans fell into this trap. A similar thing happened 100 years prior in Britain where the tories seemed to not adapt to the post Lockian world of Hanoverian Britain. Only the division of the British Whigs just like the DRs here would create a new two party system. Though the more Conservative faction would be called Tories it was a retroactively imposed descriptor that Pitt the younger and contemporaries rejected.

It's interesting just how far those parallels go. The Tories and Federalists were both ultimately done in by becoming associated with treason in the popular consciousness. While most Tories to my knowledge were Hanoverians following the Glorious Revolution, it didn't take with a number of them who wound up supporting the Jacobite rising of 1715 which allowed the party to be marginalized and allow for the period of Whig supremacy. And during the War of 1812, not all but a group of Federalists pushed for New England to secede from the Union and negotiating a separate peace with Britain at the Hartford Convention which destroyed the party's reputation and usher in the Era of Good Feelings dominated by the Democratic-Republicans. Perceived allegiance with the Jacobites and British confirming to the minds of their enemies the long-held suspicions that they were reactionaries at heart seeking to subvert their nation's revolutionary progress. And similarly to how Pitt's camp was referred to as Tories by their Foxite opponents which they rejected with the claim that they were independent Whigs, Henry Clay's faction that founded the National Republicans before becoming the core of the American Whig Party was cast as a continuation of the Federalists by their Jacksonian rivals which they denied by insisting that they protected the Republican tradition. Despite these preconceptions, they naturally assumed the same roles that the previous conservative parties had occupied in a lot of ways while being much more amenable to the developing democratic systems. Though there's undoubtedly quite a bit of nuance to all this, the comparison between the two is a really useful lens to apply when trying to understand the evolution of American politics.

It’s incorrect to say that the party called “Democratic Republican” (technically simply “Republican”) has no relation to either of today’s two parties. In fact, historians and political scientists largely consider it direct predecessor, if not simply the first iteration, of what is now called the Democratic Party. To this day, the Democratic Party itself also claims its start in 1792 by Jefferson and Madison, not in 1828 by Jackson and Van Buren. As you somewhat reference, the modern GOP on the other hand, is more indirectly (but nevertheless there’s a connection there) descended from the fractured remnants of the Whig Party, itself a direct successor to the National Republican Party, an again indirect successor to the Federalist Party and nationalist Adams-Clay minority of Republicans. So you make the connections more or less well in the video, but get hung up on the name change from Republican to Democratic Republican to Democratic.
