Robert Morgan that’s just a generation, not a lifetime. 3-4 generations can be alive at the same time, but only one king/president can be alive at a time, so if one was a president from his election to death, then it would be still far less than 15. There could be a grandfather, father, and son alive at the same time. That’s three different gens, but only one of them is the king.

I mean, the Curtis-Lee line might not be as unlikely as you think. With the liberalizing effects of the revolution, you could definitely see the monarchy working alot like normal land inheritance at the will of the land holder, or otherwise even elected from the royal family by the house and senate. Honestly, the dynamics of how a post revolution american monarchy would've worked is very interesting to me.

This is what Roman emperors and members of the senatorial class often did. As students of Roman history, most of the founders (had they chosen a monarchy or other “hereditary” government) would have considered this method of adopting meritorious adults to succeed you as the best option.

Therefore, I believe he would see the humor in this exercise in "what if." And he really was offered the kingship. Everything in this video probably already went through his head while contemplating that possibility.

I do have a question about this video though because I don't understand why they would offer kingdom ship as an option to George and give the crown to his father. I understand how succession would keep the line going but it would start at George, not his father just because he was alive. Or am I missing something about his father that would've given him the crown for something his son did? Why was that line included?

The Lee’s were both unionist in sentiment and only joined because of State loyalty. While some prominent Virginian generals would of still supported the confederacy, any who turned because of state loyalty(Jackson, Ewell, Armistead, Johnston,Stuart, etc) would of stayed unionist. Having Virginia and her generals staying union would of significantly shortened any war.
