  • Command western TV series episode pilot starring Everett Sloane, Ben Cooper and Louis Jean Heydt. This is the pilot episode of a suggested TV series titled Command from 1958. This is episode 17 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions. In this episode Everett Sloane stars as Captain Brittles, a U.S. Cavalry officer. Along with Sloane there is Ben Cooper as Lt. Cohill. These are two characters straight out of the 1949 John Ford western movie "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" starring John Wayne and John Agar in these parts. This is the only known existing episode of this series. It's a shame, it looks like this could have been a good series bringing Duke's cavalry character to the small screen. It is a miracle that there is any copy of this film at all. The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years. Almost lost forever, these rare television film treasures are now being released and uploaded for free viewing from the www.westernsont... archive collection. Watch full length western movies and TV shows full episodes on the Westerns On The Web channel and make sure to subscribe. The Forsaken Westerns is hosted by Bob Terry.

Very good movie. I am a western fan from back in the 1950's. This sure would have made a good series. It should have.

I like Sloan's take on Capt. Brittle. Louis Jean Hayd was an underrated actor with a distinctive voice. Thank you for finding this.

Excellent story line, dialogue, and acting. It is strikingly similar to a 1962 movie titled "A Thunder of Drums".

James Warner Bellah wrote a whole series of U.S.Cavalry stories all initially published in the Saturday Evening Post. His main character, featured in the majority of the short stories and two novels was Lt. Flintridge Cohill.
Captain Nathan Brittles only appears in two stories..
John Ford turned three of the stories into his famous cavalry trilogy.
Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande.
Seperate spins off from his stories, in film, would be Sergeant Rutledge and, by other directors A Thunder of Drums (Command) and The Command.
Bellah would also help to pen The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance.
It’s a real pity this series never continued as eight of the other short stories would have also made excellent viewing.. Great casting.
    Thanks 🥰🇦🇺🇺🇸

they may be playing the characters from She Wore a Yellow Ribbon but the whole finding the bodies scene was used in the1961 film A Thunder of Drums with Richard Boone & George Hamilton in the top roles..

It is strikingly similar to a 1962 movie titled "A Thunder of Drums" which starred George Hamilton as the LT, Richard Boone as the CAPT, and Arthur O'Connell as the SGT.

James Warner Bellah’s Cavalry Stories out of Fort Starke are some of the finest written about the Horse Soldiers of yesteryear. I happen to have the books “Reveille” which is a collection of his stories. All of them outstanding and would have made a great show.

    Hi Bob
Their is a movie starring Guy Madison that I can't think of the name. Guy plays a cavalry soldier that has to train a bunch of misfits to go on an undercover mission into Indian territory. I hope you can help me out. Or better yet, I hope you have it. 😉

You may be right. A Google search indicates it was British slang that came about during WWII. Many of the hats and kerchiefs were wrong as well, but everything else looked about right, especially the cavalry carbines.

It might be a good line but it's bad advice, unscriptural even. It was a good show, done well, and is supported by the unmistakable sound of Mitch Mill and his orchestra.
