- #Dermatologist #DrDray on #hairloss causes. Reasons for hair falling out, losing tons of hair, and clumps of hair falling out can be many. Hormonal changes and pregnancy hair loss are really common. Medications that cause hair loss include blood pressure pills, antidepressants, accutane, and chemotherapy. Stress is also a major cause of hair loss. Hair loss can happen after surgery or a major illness. Hair loss can be due to a vitamin deficiency, like iron deficiency.

My hair began shedding significantly after an extremely stressfull period in my life. So, I researched the internet & decided to experiment with the litttleextra coocoonion hair oil & a comb made of neem wood. The results definitely worked. At present, my hair is long, dense, black hair which has grown down to my waist and cut off on three occasions after I started. Simple & effective. Also, equally good is rubbing your scalp - it encourages the growth. You just must do this once a week. Before long, you will see short hairs starting to grow.
I love liittlexttra. I ordered various products from the brand and they gave me best results. I used the cooconioon shampoo and hair oil and it worked great for my hair fall reduction.
The hair loss struggle is real 😔
Happy being Me 💙
My partner isn't sympathetic either as a guy who is bald! He's being a jerk! Men have my sympathy when they begin to lose hair often in their 20's. I am a VERY EMPATHETIC PERSON, having struggled with bad complexion, flat chested, etc. Facial hair- electrolysis is a scam. I went for years- wish I had the money back for that "trip to Paris" I longed for as an Art History grad...live and learn. I follow an amazing Dutch barber on here, Rene, HFDZ CHANNEL- he does women, buzzes them with such skill, down to Buddhist nun, if you have the courage- I don't and a phrenologist those Victorian "quacks" who supposedly diagnosed personality, illness and your future by feeling the bumps on your head...Nope, I love the looks he creates but a Jean Seburg pixie is the shortest I want to go...Namaste from Down in the Dumps at Being, Up There,
I never wanted to get old- genetics are against me there. My mom, father, and maternal grandparents lived to 90, my father, and 103, my gran- I can't relate. Whenever I did volunteer work at mid age I was always popular with the teens- I got along with everybody, I think emotional illness can be a form of enlightenment to a point...
I really feel bad for women who suffer hair loss because I know it has to be psychologically dramatic for them. You are such a awesome presenter of information Dr. Dray so thorough! I myself have embraced my baldness I remember at first trying Rogaine then while sweating like a farm animal at the gym realized I might end up looking like a werewolf with sweat pouring off my head transferring the product to my face ..... not good!
Happy Tuesday! 👉🏻💃🏻⭐️👍🏻
Uncle Charlie happy Tuesday 💙💙
I never thought I'd be using the term "comb over"...

That's quite the picture! Lol! 😂 Happy Tuesday, Uncle Charlie! Hope you had a wonderful day. 🌠

I know my hairloss was caused by anemia, as explained to me by doctor after I was tested. After 6 months of supplementing iron and Vit c I noticed my hairline completely came back. It's really important to see your doctor to be tested.
chopsuey061987 what symptoms did you have besides hair loss?
@@freephoenix_ You'll be cold often and likely get dizzy very often.
I'm currently suffering from acute anemia and its so hard waking up looking like a dead person + hair strands everywhere :(
Hi, same. I've started the same meds 1 week ago from my Dr my course is for 3 months. Currently I'm a walking dead zombie 🧟♀️ with hair loss in shower and shedding when dry. Let's see how it goes will update.
@@jai_b This constant shedding of hair is so distressing ☹️😑 Would you mind telling us if your doctor prescribed supplements, or prescription medication?
I hate being a "high" shedder: I've always been shedding a lot of hair (mostly in the shower - and I wash daily/every other day) and it makes me so paranoid. My density remains unchanged, but it stresses me a lot!
Samee
Why are u washing hair so much. If u work out, just rinse and condition. No need to be washing scalp every day.
@@2Ryled when u say "rinse" do u mean just water or to use shampoo?
VitMin D deficiency definitely causes hair loss and so does suffering from malnourishment.
Omg......
Can eating from 3-4 meals to now eating one meal a day cause hairloss?
I havent got any sun for like a year this explains it lol will it grow back
I CANNOT CLICK FASTER! I am struggling with TE for about 7 months. It’s been so terrifying. The Derm tells me to relax and not be stressed as it will grow back but it is so hard not to😭
Di :3 same!
same ! its been about 9 months for me. it has lessened a lot but there's still a bit of shedding. i just want my hair to grow back ugh. you're not alone
It will stop, friends! I'm so incredibly sorry for you, but I promise it will stop. It happened to me three years ago from a prescription change and it took about 14 months for mine to stop. I ended up shaving my head towards the end because it was so psychologically crushing to have myself and everything I owned covered in dead, dropped hair everywhere I turned and be completely helpless to do anything about it. But it did finally sort itself out and doesn't seem to be any worse for wear now. Hang in there. You'll be okay.
I was suffering from TE for years ..I found out I was deficient in so many vitamins and I am severely anemic . Sometimes hair loss should be looked at from within not externally. Many doctors say ohh it's just stress and for years I lost hair thinking it was just stress. Find a doctor that actually cares and does a thorough blood work examination.
Same! I honestly think they don’t know and just chalk it up as that. 🤷🏼♀️ Ever derm I’ve seen says the same thing without even looking more into it. Basic labs and they send me on my way... it’s frustrating....
I am so glad that you've mention anemia. I wish I understood this hair loss factor years ago. I had been losing my hair like crazy in my late 20. now in my early 30's I've increased my red meat intake and I've had many positive affects including A LOT of returned hair
Me: thinning hair, dandruff, breaking hair, losing hair
dr dray: uploads EVERYTHING related to my concerns
Me: 👀👀👀👀👀👀
hope the video was helpful :)
LOL, I know what you mean girl! For some reason I've never had dandruff though, knock on wood!
SAME!!! I have the exact same issues as you do. It is very frustrating and causes anxiety. Love Dr. Dray for talking about this issue.
Me too...along with having 3 Moes surgeries on my head I have scaring and hair doesn't grow back😕
Same, its a bit scary lol
Funny enough my parents are in their 50s & 60s but still have thick full heads of hair. PCOS and anemia are my issues.
yeah for people w/ pcos the androgenetic alopecia is more common, but iis related to the pcos endocrinologic issue
Dr Dray may I ask whether there is any chance for improving hair growth if reversing PcOS? Will lost hair come back or is it all gone forever?
Dr Dray hi, Dr.Dray, i'd also like to know if we can regrow hair from pcos related hair loss, and if PRP method works(if used regularly)?
PCOS is my issue as well. I've recently started a medication to help and am about to start rogaine here soon.
Laura can you tell which medicine? I have insulin resistance, so idk if metformin or something else would help..
Peri-menopause and menopause also cause noticeable hair loss. When I hit the age of 50, I stopped using all heat appliances to slow the breakage and loss. My hair is in much better condition now. :)
helpfulnatural thank you for the ☕️ 💙💙💙
@@DrDrayzday You're welcome! I hope the mug arrived in one piece! :-)
Thanks for this actual useful information. I have regular old genetic hair loss and I have been subject to so much woo and bad advice from random people about it. Turns out it's just what my hair does and has nothing to do with my health or character! Thanks for spreading real information and advice
I lost all the hair in my body 15 years ago. The worst form of alopecia, called Alopecia Universalis. You live with it but NEVER get used to it. Devastating. :-(
I’m so sorry, I have the androgenic and I’m finding that horrific . You look beautiful x
I had a stylist hold the screaming hot blow dryer right on my wet hair while pulling it with the brush. I asked her not to do that. She actually said that's OK and refused to stop doing it! I could see where the hair broke right where she held it on there. Never went back.
Am I the only one when she talked about the genetic hair loss and it’s curable and you have more than one option I sigh in relief because I’m 20 years old and everyone in my family has hair loss in their 20s
I went through a major hair loss period after a prolonged trauma 2 1/2 years ago and I’m still waiting for it to come back fully. I lost over a third of my hair and had to cut it super short 😞
Hii. Have you good hair growth since this. Im losing mine!!!
Wow vitamin D deficiency. A year or so before my breast cancer dx my vitamin D really dropped, along with sodium and calcium. During this time my hair stylist started noticing my hair not growing at its usual rate. Very informative ❤️
Thank you for such great information. You're the reason why I visited a dermatologist after fighting acne for 20 years. My skin has cleared in only 2 weeks!
thanks! glad to hear :)
amazing! congrats :))
@@Coffeegirl739 thank you! prescription medications work wayyyy better than anything I've ever tried including high end products.
My dad had oral cancer, and had chemo and radiation on his face as part of his treatment. The radiation totally stopped the hair on his face from growing. The hair on his head was white as snow when he started, and it grew back in darker. It's like a dark grey now. They told us sometimes color and texture changes after chemo, but it was still surprising! :)
Is he doing better now? Sending love and prayers to you and your father! ❤️🙏

This is very informative! Thank you for doing this video! Just like you said, there is so much to consider when suffering from hair loss. I have learned so much this past year while dealing with TE. I lost 50% of my hair!😢 Hair loss is so stressful & so devastating! Hopefully, my hair will grow back. I’m no longer shedding crazy amounts of hair. I sure have done all the blood tests, seen several doctors, addressed the vitamin deficiencies, digestion issues, scalp issues, switched to organic hair products, and I’m also doing the hair laser therapy. We’ll see what happens...🙏
Did your hair come back
What digestive issues did you fix?
I am starting to think you can read my mind. 😂 i was just worrying about my uncontrollable hair fall the past few days

I feel hair thickness is 200% genetics
Thanks for the comprehensive videos regarding hair loss. Your first video related to the Deva Curl controversy was the first thing that alerted me to that being a possible issue. I have tried an anti-dandruff shampoo a few times since that initial video and have noticed less shedding. I personally believe my alopecia has multiple causes including genetics, Deva Curl, and the Curly Girl Method. The past 12 months have been very distressing. My dermatologist directed me to really expensive solutions and I’m glad you’re here for anyone struggling with these issues. You also helped me to find products that helped me with my rosacea when the Internet tried to send me to Sephora/Ulta. I’m surprised it wasn’t obvious to me that the best skin care is affordable and can be found anywhere health care products are sold.
Amy Reich , what skincare worked well for your rosacea, struggling to find a moisturizer that doesnt make me red or get those awful itchy bumps. Thanks!
Lynne Burrell I use the Cerave Hydrating face wash and their regular moisturizer. Dr. Dray has lots of content available on rosacea. Remember there are three main types. I don’t have trouble with bumps. I also have Soolantra. It’s covered by my insurance with a $25 copay.
I have hypothyroidism. Was diagnosed after I went to the doctor because I was losing hair
Did your hair come back after starting treatment?

what is your tsh level ?

My hair loss is genetic and I am beyond depressed because of it. It started about 5 years ago but now I cannot even wear my hair open. I always have to wear a bun because even if I wear a ponytail you could tell that there are only a few strands of hair left. A few months ago I needed to start putting eyeshadow or dark powder on my scalp since you can see it through on the top of my head. I just feel so ugly and everytime I see old photos like my profile picture I could just cry.
I feel you.😥 Please try bovine collagen AND Biotin supplements. My extreme hair shedding has been controlled to some extent, remaining hair thickens as well.

I lost so much of my hair after baby number 3. Was told that It would come back around. 6 years later still no sign of hair coming back.
I'm iron deficient. I've been this way for years. I've started eating more iron rich foods, supplements, and a multivitamin. I'm on the very low side. I also take a HBP and I take an anti-depressant.
U know some who have iron deficiency can have depression and also I was depressed once and I prayed continuously I knew that suicide was not an option so I did my research and found magnesium chelate b12 vitamins or b50 and drinking turmeric tea that gave me immediate relief. It took me two years with this treatment but I am free from depression. Also I took something called Nutrophos
Stress.... ughhhhh.. YUP.
I'm hoping my RA test comes back ok. Already have hypothyroid. . That's part of auto immune diseases...btw.. I lost hair during menopause... Then after pancreatitis and chemo... Now medications for Afib making it fall. I take collagen to help.. With Vitamin C and Hyluronic Acid. You'll get results with this combo. Makes it work better.
@C. Bright I wish I could do that!! 😄
Thanks for this! In my case turns out I had an iron deficiency that was also effecting my health so I’m on a prescription for iron! I’m not losing as much as I was prior
It’s like you saw all of the fallen hair I collected after my shower today! 😄Thank you for all the information.
Absolutely! I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I think the medication has made my hair start to fall out. . ...because this wasn't a issue until the 2nd week on the medication.
what is your tsh level
It's incredible that Vit D isn't affected by sunscreen and also that it contributes to hair loss. Mine has been super low for at least 90 days and it may be a factor or the main factor in the hair loss. I'm on a super prescription now for Vit D, but it was not well controlled in 2019. Now I am motivated to really stay on top of that! It's such a small thing, but no one wants their hair to vanish! I really appreciate you sharing this information.
how many units per day did you need to take? 2000?
I went to a few dermatologists when telogen effluvian started for me last year. All blood tests were normal and I was on no medications. I had stopped birth control about 4months before and noticed it and asked if this was the cause, and they kind of shrugged it off. Thank goodness a dermatologist finally agreed this was a possible cause

I read somewhere that humans have shedding “seasons” during summer and winter - is that true? I personally have shed a lot of hair during November and December on several occasions, but I don’t know if it was due to something else.
My scalp goes through periods of feeling really itchy and inflamed and I can't help but intensely scratch. No dandruff or anything visible on the scalp but i notice after it calms down, my hair falls and density is 30% of what I had.

Very good information for your followers. As a nurse for 45+ years I appreciate your knowledge which is based on Scientific research and knowledge. So many people are trying to “self diagnose” due to wide spread access to the internet. This can be dangerous because there are so many different causes for whatever problem a person is experiencing. A thorough examination, history and at times numerous tests are required to make an accurate diagnosis.

I'm 48 and just finding out that I have PCOS. My HRT doctor says that the decline in Estrogen in Peri and Meno means the high DHEA can mean the Androgens have *more impact*, than when we had higher Estrogen earlier in life. Hormone influences apparently impact based on their Ratios and Balances. Kind of like a One-Sided Teeter-totter...
And DHEA can convert into Testosterone which then converts to DHT (the hair loss triggering Androgen). I also had hair loss with Prednisone Treatment. Not sure how much was Prednisone and how much was having Pancolitis (IBD can take over all 6 feet of colon).

I'm in canada, i'm a woman that has been suffering with seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss for about 3 years now, my GP tried to refer me to a few dermatologist, but none of them were accepting patients with hair loss. Hi Dr. Dray, I’m really happy to have found your channel! I’m addicted to your videos!! Thanks. I have a quick question: In the case of a hair loss due to stopping and beginning birth control pills in a small period of time, like 3 months... does the hair grow back to its normal growth rate and stop falling after a while? Or is that a permanent hair loss?

Thank you for this. I started losing tons of hair in the shower recently which freaked me out. But about four months ago I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy, guessing either from stress or a severe allergic reaction to a perm I received the night before. Either way I'm guessing this is the reason for losing a large amount of my hair😞
The human body and the things it does is so very interesting! Thanks for this information. 👍💖
I lost so much hair about 6 months after having a baby! It was terrible. I cried everyday! But it grew back, took a while, but it’s doing better. Sometimes being patient is the only thing I could do.
How long were you sheddding?
will you do a Covid hair loss video? I'm dealing with it now severely and I do notice its all over the Internet. I would love to know your thoughts. love your channel.
My sis told me about a book she read regarding vitamin D: she mentioned that the author pointed out that people are getting enough vitamin D, but then they usually go home & wash it off in the shower with soap, when actually the vitamin D needs to sit on the skin to soak in for 24 hours. Therefore he advocated for only washing off in the shower with water & friction from a rag (only using soap on the under arms, feet, & other stinky areas). You’ll still smell clean. So basically the soaps we use & showering too much keep us from absorbing enough vitamin D
I don't think that is how things work
Vitamin d is made inside cells it can't be washed off
Could you please do a video on perifollicular pigmentation? 😊
I would be interested in this as well as there’s studies showing copper is a huge component of hair follicle coloration as well as a certain amino acid being capable of reducing or even reversing grey hair!

Oh wow. I was just thinking about sunscreen and the risk for Vitamin D deficiency
Everyday I tried to conquer my stresses But It freaks me out too much when I lose more hairs than less whenever I brush it and/or shower it.
Being in the army had to wear my hair so tight:( hope the hairline grows back
Thank you for your service!❤️
I had low iron/ferritin and Vit D but they are under control now... but I’m still losing my hair 😭
And now?
@@elizabethtara7658 Still falling out but I have some new growth. I think in another 6 months when I’ve kept my numbers high for a while I might see some difference. It’s definitely a slow process :(
You know you’re a regular when you’re humming along with end credits 😂!

Thank you Dr. Dray. I typically have my hair thinned, but after having an appendectomy in July, as well as work-related stress, I find my hair shedding significantly. I sure hope this is the reason.
Wait. My dermatologist said Alopecia Areata is permanent. I even tried getting hair transplant, and they said I couldn't get it because it would fall off again. I'm soo getting a second opinion! Thanks for your videos and all this information.
Thank you so much for your videos regarding the topic of Hair Loss.... I am on the distress level. What information can you share with us regarding hair loss in women with PCOS. I would loveinformation on this and successuful treatments. PCOS is a condition that even doctors don't understand. Thank you so much.
Yvonne Ramirez me too i would love to hear her recommendations for products for women with pcos!
Yvonne Ramirez Because only women get it. 🥺🥺🥺
Just do seed cycling I did it and Hamdoulillah my androgeny gone
Last year my hair randomly started falling out about 3 months into my 6 month study abroad. 3 months after I returned home (so 6 months after the hair loss started) it stopped. I was freaking out the whole time and talking to my PCP and endocrinologist about it but they didn't really have many answers for me. I had bloodwork done and my PCP recommended an iron supplement as well as B3 and Vitamin C. I started taking those and about 2 weeks later my hair stopped falling out but I don't attribute it to that because I wasn't taking them long enough to see a difference, and am not taking them regularly now and my hair is no longer falling out. I'm also on a number of meds including thyroid meds, antidepressants and birth control, but I have not switched any of those up in many years so I don't think it was from that either. All this to say that it can be hard to identify the cause but if your hair has only been falling out for a few months, don't freak out just yet because it is very possible it will go away on its own. From my research online I was able to figure out that it was probably telogen effluvium but I'm not sure what the cause was except for maybe the stress of going abroad, since the hair loss started 3 months after I left home.
Amara Young , thank you for posting your story. I had skin cancer surgery on my nose that was very stressful. I had long thick hair and about three months later it just started coming out in my brush and I noticed so much in the drain when I washed it. It has been shedding a lot for about two months now and is not stopping. I’ve probably lost about 30% of volume. Just reading your story gave me hope that this is what it is and that it will stop eventually and start to re-grow. Im not on any meds but i started collagen, iron and biotin recently. Did yours start growing back in and you had a lot a little hairs sticking up for awhile? It shed for six months?
Thank you- I had some hair loss at menopause, but now, years later, it’s thinning again. Lots of ideas in this video to bring up when I go for my yearly check up.
Same thing happened to me..
Justme me too
It's so odd how our bodies react two things. I had a major surgery requiring an unexpected blood transfusion years ago and once I healed my hair started growing like never before and was really dense. Go figure!
Justme 💙
Just starting the video but someone just told me that my recent use of Tretinoin can be linked to my hair loss right now. Is there a link at all?
I am wondering the same thing. I started topical Tretinoin about a year ago and that’s when my hair shedding began. It has slowed down but is still shedding more than usual.
My hair is falling like crazy and you mention Severe Illness that can cause it and 3 months ago I had the flu... this is so frustrating 😞
I literally just started taking propranalol occasionally for anxiety with exams, and general anxiety and NOW I WANNA STOP TAKING IT I have enough hair loss as it is I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS.
I'm already losing hair, I'm scared if it gets worse at menopause !?
😭😭 I AM THIRTEEN AND MY HAIR IA FALLING OUT!! Guys this video is good :( but I scratch it sometimes too much and it bled so much the hair fell out.. dry scalps are terrible :(
Thanks for the great review. I have Crohn's and am on prednisone in and off plus a powerful immunosuppressant, plus on a heavy dose of anti-depressants. No wonder I have hair thinning! It's been going on for about ten years, so I've kind of accepted it. When I go out I wear a good medical wig (actually looks better than my hair ever could!)...about the house I don't care. Thanks for recognition of such an important subject.❤
What about topical tretinoin? I see a lot of women asking if anyone else is suffering hair thinning since using tretinoin and many are saying yes. Is there a correlation?
Have some hair loss with borderline iron levels and subclinical hyperthyroidism...thyroid just in control and hair all of a sudden REALLY started falling out...dr says not related to thyroid but timing very suspicious...can increase tsh increase iron demand??
The necklace and earrings look beautiful on you
Dr. Dray-Will you do an episode ion how to reduce scarring after a shave biopsy? I had a shave biopsy on an irregular mole in a prominent spot on my arm. Thank you!
Im a natural blonde. I have very low vitamin D and am on supplements. I also am on keto and have lost 39 #. I also recently started remicaid for RA. I guess it could be any of the above. Thanks for sharing! Love all of your information 💜💜💜
thanks for watching and hope things improve
I’m scared I’m going bald the past few weeks 🙈
Transplant medications also cause hair loss and thinning. Specifically tacrolimus.
Hormones causes it too.
11:57 Alopecia Areata was what I had. I was referred to hospital dermatologist by gp. They put yellow product on bald area and directed light to bald area. Also injected steroids I think. I had to shampoo hair with Johnson's baby shampoo as well. Somehow my bald area is gone now. 🙂
