  • @samuraibiker3793

    If a vehicle has a cruise control module and fuses why wouldn't it have controls for it? Was it not the stock turn signal lever?

    • @arctic_otter
      @arctic_otter  2 роки тому

      To my knowledge it's not a separate control module, just programming in the ECU. The stock lever didn't have the buttons. Since this has an electronic (no cable) throttle already, the only difference between cruise control and normal driving is whether it takes commands from the pedal sensor, or the computer directly.

      I'm pretty sure in order for this to work you need to have an electronic throttle control module. Could you look down by your gas pedal and tell me if you see a little black control box? I think that's the ticket. Mine appears to be mechanical, although I did not trace it all the way back to the engine.

    • @arctic_otter
      @arctic_otter  Рік тому

      Yes that's correct. I do have an electronic throttle. If it's mechanical cable you'll have to buy one of those vacuum solenoid things and the method in the video wont work. • @arctic_otter
      @arctic_otter  5 років тому

      I just searched on www.rostra.com/index.php and it looks like unfortunately no, it probably wont work. The system they prescribe for a 2011 Chevy Silverado has a separate computer module and wiring.
      When I first searched for my truck, the prescribed model was just the new stalk, so that's how I had the idea to try it.
      As it is, your kit doesn't look too hard if you're comfortable with some relatively simple wire-splicing at the accelerator pedal, but that's your call.

      @arctic_otter  5 років тому

      Hmmm I only have experience with my truck. www.rostra.com/index.php is where i first discovered this quirk. The site is not very well laid out, but from a quick search, if your particular truck has 8 cylinders, it should have the connector somewhere in there, as the 'aftermarket cruise' is just the new stalk, same as mine. However, if you have 6 cylinders, it looks like they recommend their 'universal' model but that needs an old-fashioned cable throttle? Once you search for your truck, scroll down to "Electronic Add-On Cruise Control Systems", and see "Cruise Control Notes" for the links.

      I have an 05 with the V6, so same truck. Just adding the switch wont help because the V6 is different from the V8s and the Duramax. I believe all the other engines this works because it uses an electronic throttle control, so the switch is all that is needed. The V6 throttle is controlled by a cable. You'll need a cruise control module and cable to make this work. The wiring is already there, though. There will be a rectangular electrical connector to the right of the brake booster. At first it'll look like it's plugged into to something, but it's not, it's a dummy connector that leads to nothing. That is where you'd plug in your cruise module. Not exactly sure where to bolt the module in yet though, as I haven't done this yet. Going to get a module from a junk yard this weekend and see if it works. Hope this helps.

    Can anyone explain how, on these models of GMC, that the cruise control servo is installed even without Cruise Control as an option? That is the only way this is even possible. I find this very unusual that the throttle servo would be installed already. I'd love to know how and why, when on all other cars, no cruise, no servo, and you have to install them both.

    • @arctic_otter
      @arctic_otter  2 роки тому +1

      My truck has a factory electronic throttle, so it doesn't need an additional servo to hold it open, just instructions from the computer directly instead of from the sensor on the gas pedal when you select cruise.
      Obviously you are right, if it did have a regular cable throttle, then it would be very unlikely to come with a cruise servo from the factory as standard.

    Does this work for a 1993-2003 S10? I'm about to get a Chevy S10 here soon and I know for a fact it won't have cruise control but I do want it. So dunno if it'll work or not for it.

      Did you ever get cruise control on your s10? And how, if you don't mind me asking?
