- Fernando Tatis Jr of the San Diego Padres left tonight's game with a left upper limb injury after hurting himself on a swing. This could be a major blow to the young MLB star and this video i'll review the injury footage and explain what is at the top of my differential for what could have happened to Tatis Jr on this swing.

Edited Pin : Padres just released that it was in fact a shoulder subluxation. This means a partial dislocation. Next step is the discussion if he can rehab/play through it or if he needs surgery
great video brian! as a padre fan i’m very worried, just came out that it is a left shoulder subluxation, is that basically what you described in the video? if not what is it exactly?
This sounds exactly what I did to myself practicing my disc golf backhand motion.
Yes, same thing just not a full dislocation
You should include radiological images more in your videos. Get some from radiopaedia. I say this selfishly as a medical student 😂

Dr. Sutterer, im currently taking an anatomy class for my freshman year of college, and these videos have been a huge help supplementing that class. Combining the terms of anatomy with real-world, real-time examples of said terms has made learning anatomy and physiology that much easier.. Thank you for helping me learn and enjoy anatomy

UA-cam needs to give you an award for fastest content
Hopefully more quality than speed. It's easy to hit record on your phone and just upload talking without visuals etc..I take a lot of pride trying to be just as high quality as it is quick
And you succeed, great understandable in depth content . Quality for sure
@@BrianSuttererMD that’s why you the goat bro
@@BrianSuttererMD - Well yeah, you have them up really fast, but you don't skimp on quality and you always include visuals to actually explain to us what's going on.
he had barely swung before you posted this video. Thanks so much for the great vids. My prayers to Fernando
For reals I took a swig of my beer checked out UA-cam during the commercial and boom the doc is on on tattis
I think the bat was not yet out of his hand when the video posted.
Dude wasn't even finished swinging yet and Doc already had the last video edit done!
😂
I'll never need to know this but I still like watching it
Brian wasting no time with this one

ESPN should hire this man immediately and put him on Sportscenter. I’m not in the medical field but I understand everything he says by the way he explains it. Great job Dr. Sutterer

Very impressive how quickly you post this informative content. Keep up the good work
Could you do Michael Conforto's shoulder dislocation from a few years back? They said it was a rare and uncommon shoulder injury for baseball but still don't really understand what happened
Best youtuber on the site period
Man, stumbled upon this video from the Ryan Crowley injury. This channel is excellent!
I think Tatis Jr should just get the surgery. He's the Padres franchise player and really needs to resolve this lingering and chronic left shoulder by having surgery as soon as possible before he injures it more by playing thru it.
This is a really cool video to see because I got more of an education on the injury I personally received in high school and it’s really cool to actually see it rather than just explained
i did the very same thing to my shoulder and just got shoulder surgery for it, thanks for the extra info on it
Great video as always. Can you do an update on Christian Pulisic who seems to keep have recurrences of his hamstring injury you covered last August. Maybe you can give your thoughts on maybe Chelsea/Christian coming back too soon and has it reached the point on if there should be real concern this is going to plague him for the rest of his playing days.
Man you nailed this one Brian.
Brian Sutterer MD is well spoken and concise ‼️🧐
Bummer for such a young talent to have shoulder issues like that. Thanks for the info Doc!
i know i could count on Brian to get back here so quickly
Notification squad!! And damn as soon as this happened I got notified of this video
Awesome explanation, i did the operation, twice, Lost a big part of the motion...
I’ve said it before and will say it again. That anatomy software is amaziiiiiing!
I have not-so-great shoulder instability in both of my shoulders, and I have taken a few hits in hockey where the head of my humerus definitely glided in the glenoid fossa of the scapula in a shearing type of motion, and that hurts very badly. The next few days, my shoulder was sore to move in all directions. I never had it checked to see if anything was wrong with the labrum or anything like that, but after hearing your explanation, I'm about 100% sure that's what I have dealt with before, too. Good video!
Love your videos, keep it up!
This is literally the same injury I have had for 5 months because of over extending my shoulder backwards, been through mri’s and many test. Shit sucks
these are no joke for sure...
how are you now?
Damn you're fast doc
I'm here because this just happened to me at my men's softball game the other night. Literally felt like my arm came out of the socket and went back in. Such a weird feeling
Happened twice to me in the same day during Varsity baseball… that was 7-8 years ago. Still feel it
You were right, impressive! Thank you for this, I was really wondering what might’ve happened. Keep it up!
My mom had an injury similar to this when she was working on organizing our backyard shed, something heavy fell from a top shelf, she tried to catch it, and it pulled her arm back and down. She was in shoulder rehab for almost a year and still has problems. No surgery though.
Hi Brian Sutterer MD, I like your content. I love watching your videos.
Brian, you're dope.
Hi Doc,
Haven't you thought about creating an Instagram profile too? Even more people followed you, and I were amongst them :D
Great vid, just like always,
sometimes im scrolling youtube and i find out a player is injured from your video and sometimes that game is still going on.
Can you explain what an operation would entail? I’d love to learn more about what the surgeon would do and why the recovery might take so long
YESSSS Finally some baseball stuff! Not happy about Tatis getting hurt tho
DO A VICTOR OLIDIPO INJURY UPDATE PLS🙏🙏🙏
Wishing the best for Tatis. Baseball needs young players like him.
Thanks for the great content.
Would you do a special episode for DMX and the tragic affects of OD and his brain activity 😢
Dr. Sutterer, I love your analysis in every sport injuries that come to this sport. But can you make a video about Kurt Zouma injury when he plays against Manchester United? I want to know your analysis about that injury. Thank you..
I need that anatomy program! .... I already have the skeleton in the background. 😁
So this is all speculation before the results are public? I like it. Great analysis. No sarcasm intended.
Very interesting information
Could you react on soccer goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar's injury? He was kicked to a head during a match between Slavia Praha and Glasgow Rangers.
Bankart lesions to the labrum can also be a possibility as the humeral head displaces anteriorly.
This was very interesting to me. You earned a sub here.
Damn doc you're fast
I’m a 14 year old baseball player
I’m a great hitter and a good pitcher
An arm injury is my worst fear
If you play through college-it’s gonna happen in small doses at the very least. Work on lifting to strengthen small muscles and maintain flexibility. Don’t lift upper body with a football player regiment either
Both my shoulders used for nothing at all. It started happening from boxing. Then because I was a dumb teenager I would continue to box after it reset itself. Majority ot the time it would just slip out for a second or two and it would pop back in when I cradled it towards my body. This started when I was 15, I'm 33 now. It just recently, in the past two years build up enough strength to stop popping out. I'm so happy because every time it popped out I'd have to be extra careful otherwise it would pop out every other day, then it might be a couple months go by without popping out and once it happened it would start the process all over... it was miserable.
Yesterday I hit a few golf swings with a little a bit of power and not enough streching/warming up. Something went wrong on the follow through where I nearly dislocated my shoulder. My body knew the humerus pushing to get out so it immediately triggered pain and stopped the swing all together. It hurt for a bit and radiated to the lower half of the humerus
It's now the next day and I can still move fine and do everyday tasks but it hurts a bit, clicks, and generally feels unstable
So on-point !
I was watching the game live when this happened hope tattis recovers.ama die hard sf giants fan but we need players like him in baseball
I subluxed my shoulder pitching and was one of the worst pain I've felt in my life. Just had to do very lightweight dumbbell exercises on a medicine ball to strengthen the area
Please do for joel cahuasqui. A kickboxer who died in a fight.
How likely is it that the shoulder was bothering him ever since this happened in the spring? He’s made several throwing errors already and looked frustrated at the plate. Something hasn’t been right, at the very least I think it’s been on his mind but I’m wondering if there’s been pain too. He may have come back to soon from the last subluxation, trying to live up to the big contract.
This guy could be the face of baseball but you can’t be swinging out of your shoes every pitch/going balls to the wall every play and expect to stay healthy
Exactly.
Thanks for your insights. I hope he doesn't need surgery but we'll see I guess. I hope he doesn't turn out to be a fragile player. I'd like to see him have a great career and I'm not even a Padres fan..
Appreciate the video doc.
Broke my shoulder in a car accident (humorous blew out the back of the joint when hit by the air bag) and I have about 80% of my mobility now, and my shoulder pops out every now and then. It really stinks and hurts, so I feel for this guy.
Yes More Baseball injury videos
Just curious after hearing the news of him not going with surgery because from what the team doctors have said it’s a slight tearing. So obviously at some point, he would need the surgery. As a doctor are there things tatis can do to avoid further tearing If he plays through with it. For example finishing his swing with two hands so his left labrum is more stabilized? Or would that not do anything to help his situation?
I once dislocated my shoulder swinging a bat, but I dislocated it at the point of contact, not on the follow through, i would love to know the mechanics that led to that happening
Shout out to The Flint Michigan Tropics! “ Let’s get tropical!!!”
I read an article that says Tatis Jr. chose not to take surgery, and he might have to have surgery after the season.
Not even surprised he predicted it correctly
Can you break down Danny Jansen's knee injury
I dislocated my shoulder throwing a punch in a fight the summer after my freshman year. After such it happened 8 times before I finally opted for surgery to repair my torn labrum. All before even turning 17. Destroyed my football career.
Any thoughts on oladipos injury?
i hope he gets well soon, hes on the cover for mlb the show 21
How long do you think he’ll be sidelined?
Hey Dr. Sutterer, I want to know what is the program or website you use to see the human body in three dimensional view.
Really interesting because when you look at Tatis' physical build, he has broad shoulders. This is the last area where I would expect him to have a problem with a structural weakness that causes a propensity for injury.
Waiting for oladipo update😔
I’m a metal head and I’ve been watching your vids lately and how much head/brain injuries can head banging cause?
Could you do Mike Sorokas Achilles injury?
I’d like to see a comparison to what Cody Bellinger dealt with in the World Series, his prior history, and off season surgery?
Of course , the injury actually occurred in the NLCS but he played through the WS.
Hey Doc, love the content. I had a question a bit unrelated to this video, but I was wondering why Caris Levert didn’t need to undergo chemotherapy before returning to the game. Doesn’t renal cell carcinoma usually require more than just resection of the tumor, even when caught early? Thanks
Since Tatis has a history with this injury, would you recommend he get the surgery sooner rather than later?
Man I know the feeling. I got an unstable shoulder too and 2 months ago it got injured (it is in its place now though so I don't know if it subluxated) I'm still doing rehab and if it doesn't work it'll be surgery
Hey doc, any thoughts on Brooks Koepka playing at the masters? Seems a bit ballsy to me tbh
Don’t know how much you know about baseball but do you think maybe trying to put some muscle on would help with slowing down his follow through leading to less stress on his joints? Very curious love the breakdowns
This happened to me as a kid.
This is why I don’t do one arm swing finishes
Get him to a million subs!!!!!!
Damn bro you were fast with this lol
Never heard of a baseball player hurting their shoulder this way. As a Padre fan Smh just wow.
Other than, or in addition to surgery what can someone do to prevent that injury from happening?
OMG THIS JUST HAPPENED!
Can u do Danny Jansen knee injury
I don't know if you follow it, but could you talk about sumo wrestler Hibikiryu's injury? It happened this march, and it's debated that he's paralyzed from the neck down.
So what I just heard is that he’s gonna be okay and should be back in a day or 2, did everybody else hear that too 😭😭😭
It will linger, he had the same issue in spring training. This may not go away for a while
it showing 1 view is pretty cool for me
I watched this live in the ballpark... if it’s been lingering I’d imagine surgery (unfortunately). How long you think surgery and full recovery will take, Brian?
Plz do Jo Linder... peck muscle lines
This happened an hour ago you are fast
Unrelated but, can you do a video about how adrenaline works with say MMA fighters? They're tough as nails but does adrenaline play into any of the pain tolerance? It seems like the pain really shows after the fight ends and it all kinda slows. True? No?
Have this exact same problem ! will surgery help or make my shoulder worse ?
