Here’s a rule that could be unwritten; If you’re down by seven, don’t walk three batters. Especially when you know the fourth batter is hot for hitting homers.
Unwritten rules to protect a pitcher's feelings: - Don't steal when leading big - Don't swing at 1st pitch after b2b homeruns - Don't swing at 3-0 when leading big - Don't bunt to break up a no-hitter - Don't talk about a no-hitter in progress - Don't step on pitchers mound when entering / leaving the field - Throwing at a batter in retaliation is ok when a team breaks these rules Unwritten rules that help batters: - Nothing. Here's a new rule, play to win at all times. This aint a children's game where you have to take it easy on the other team when you're giving a beat down. it's a man's professional sport, win by as many points as you can. Stupidest unofficial rule I've ever heard of
Sounds like the unwritten rule should be “if your up by 6 after the 7th inning and the count is 3-0 with bases loaded, the other team needs a new pitcher”
lol and they shouldn't. A lot of teams have come back on big leads. Tigers, Indians were notorious for blowing big leads and coming back from them in the 90s.
It’s because they hate wasting pitchers. They needs to open up the roster if every pitcher is blowing their arms 4 pitches in throwing 110. They’re pissed because they’re going to blow the game plan for the next 10 days because they can’t get any out. 🤷🏽♂️
I half agree but half don't. I also don't like when pitchers are removed in the middle of innings. It's like, they should have to pitch whole inning and either get out of the jam or give up more runs until they do.
People are missing the point. The reason the rule exists is to increase odds of finishing the game. Baseball is very imbalance at the extremes. Because there is no clock, other team can just take a fan out of stands to pitch when a score differential gets high. They have no incentive to waste arm of a pro pitcher at this point.
I have said this before. “In any sport if you don’t want to get embarrassed then simply stop the other team from scoring” This is not poor sportsmanship, that guy is just doing his job.
Yeah, but if they were up by double digits then it would be a different story, but team have come back from bigger leads, but as a ranger I’m sure I would be pissed too but I don’t play for the rangers so yeah that’s my opinion
Historic comebacks in the MLB happen all the time. The Mariners trailed Toronto 8-1 after 5 innings in the playoffs but came back to win. And look at game 6, Mets-Boston in 1986. Play until the final out, never let up. Don't apologize because the other team is inept.
was just about to say the same thing. That pitcher was throwin meatballs lmao they should be mad at him not the dude whos doing what hes supposed to be doing lmao
@@khamjaninja. I think if someone strikes a pitcher with clear intent then that batter should get an automatic home run rather than a walk to first. Dankmasters 445 same here the rangers can go f*ck themselves there literally complaining that tatis didn’t give them empathy if I was tatis on the press I would have said idc but he probably didn’t want the media on him so that’s why he didn’t say it
Amen! The biggest thing I hate is when a team jumps out to a big early lead and then just quit for the rest of the game wanting it to get over. Last week, I saw the Pirates jump out to a 7 run lead and then they didn’t even get three hits after that.
I was just thinking the same thing! Skunk Rule! In basketball, you’ll never see a time take the ball down court when they have a huge lead and 2 minutes left, take a shot clock violation or wait till the shot clock is at :01 and pass the ball to their opponents, football the same way offense isn’t gonna down the ball at the beginning of the 4th quarter with a 4 touchdown lead! Not sure if this is the chicken or the egg to the not keeping score in T-Ball kinda crap!
I play baseball and basketball, and it’s one thing to shoot a 3 pointer when you’re up 20 with 20 seconds left in the game, when there’s no shot of a comeback. But in baseball, you could theoretically be down 20-0 going into the bottom of the 9th and end up that. Which is why this is one of the stupidest unwritten rules in all of sports
There’s a reason baseball is the only sport they say “anything can happen in baseball” because their is no time limits in mlb. Happened to the dodgers in a World Series game they where up by a lot in the 9th when into so many extra innings and lost the game
@@sternxsaturn I mean what and Nancy boy.... Lol I made a similar comment. If MLB were smart, since they failed with marketing Trout, they need to market Tatis as the face of MLB. Young exciting talented player with latin background but raised in America speaks Spanish and English very well. He's the guy. He's everything they need. Well according to the unwritten rules of the NBA, you aren’t supposed to score on the last possession of the game if you’re team is up by a lot...Let’s not act like baseball players are the only babies here.
Homerun 29 completely different, players only avoid crushing rookies that’s re small becaus they don’t really want to end a kids career, this guy just hit a baseball like they had been all game
100% SOO true. They need new fans, and this bullshit just makes me sad considering this kid is one of the MOST entertaining players to watch in the game right now and they yell at him for swinging "too hot" of a bat. Hey - Baseball old heads - LET THE GAME EVOLVE! and enjoy this guy while he's playing on this kind of level, please 🙏
This isn’t high school. These are paid professionals, who fans are paying to watch. It’s ridiculous to have unwritten rules like telling a guy to just not bat normally.
That unwritten rule is intended for kids getting their asses whooped in Little League so they can play a full game and not get 10 run ruled, where the game is called early. Not grown men being paid millions to give 110% regardless of the score. Pro teams come back from a big deficit late in the game all the time.
how grown men went on a podium and apologized for giving 100% effort in a game ill never understand. how baseball is the only sport that evolved into players never even standing up for themselves i dont get
Tatis does not have to wait for a strike, he has personal goals to reach, just like a pitcher does, all players should do their best till the end no matter the sport or score.
Exactly. Why should a pitcher be given a free pass to thrown it down the middle after he fell behind 3-0. These are paid professionals. He can swing 3-0 if he wants.
i couldnt care if he stole third if they were up by 20. Funny in the states you get upset if your team gets beaten by a few runs or points. In Australia you want you team to score as many points as possible. This is a non story.
All I can think about in this situation is nobody would care if he swung at a 3-0 count and grounded out. So the only reason anybody is mad is because he is good, end of story
His coach would be pissed off if he grounded out because that was a take sign. His coach was unthrilled about a grand slam, imagine what would happen with a groundout.
@youtubesucks Are you saying Tatis will be intentionally walked from now on when the bases are loaded? (with the exception of a tied game in the bottom of the 9th) Or, are you saying they'll intentionally walk him in some other situation? Forgive me, but I'm really confused here. 😊
Smfh ok let's make it for pitchers too. If they're about to throw a no-hitter, there should be an unwritten rule that says they should throw meatballs starting in the 8th
The fact that he was forced to apologize, after HIS team ousted him, is disgusting. Respect = not giving pity, swing at the ball because that’s the game!
Seriously after what Tatis's buddy Vladdy is doing with the Jays... you score as much as you can. Unwritten mercy rule? The Jays are posting 11 runs in the last inning.

I agree 1000%. I hate when the same thing happens in the NBA. They get mad if they are getting blown out and you score. If you don't want the other team scoring, play defense🤷♂️

Baseball already has comparatively limited action throughout the game, so why the **** would you limit it even more? What a joke lol
And seeing a young exciting player having to say he's sorry.. And they wonder why young people dont give a shit about baseball or find it boring. ''Let the kids play'' right MLB?
As a Padres fan I cant respect him after that. Be upset if he missed a sign yeah, but talk to him in the dugout, not through the media. Then he adds "we're not trying to run up the score"... like what?? Should everyone bunt out? Has Tingler been asleep when our BP has been blowing leads all season? He was totally kissing ass for his former team. Tinglers a clown for how he handled this whole situation
Honestly Tatis’ press conference should have gone “Yeah he threw me an easy pitch, so I hit it over the fence. Pitch better and we won’t have this conversation.”
thats exactly what happened too. guy was throwing shit pitches so he got punished. this is not only embarrassing for the ranger bull pen, but the org as a whole since they went on to try and hit manny now shits personal. 4 game sweep incoming as a big fu too would be nice(edit aye called the sweep and 4 slams let's go slam Diego)

@AVERY HUEBEL At least with football there is a clock, and there is no way the team can come back. In baseball, you could score 8 runs in an inning and have an implosion from your bullpen. I'd rather win by 10 runs than leave it to a shaky bullpen.
@AVERY HUEBEL this is pro sports this isn't house league where kids are just out there for fun and skill development. If you're gonna suck in a competitive league, be better.
@AVERY HUEBEL just like football, if you don't want them to run up the score, stop them. It's selfish to expect the other side to take it easy on you because you are being competitive enough. Even then, beaning a guy because "he watched his home run leave the park" goes back to being a crybaby.
@AVERY HUEBEL This is a professional game, not a co-ed Sunday League. I'd agree with you on most sportsmanship rules, but not this one. The rangers should blame their lack of skill instead of the other team.
@AVERY HUEBEL If you're playing in the most elite league in the world in your sport, it's the losing team's job to keep the game from becoming a blowout. @youtubesucks It's a competitive sport, he should do what he believes gives his team the best chance to win. What is this, little leagues? He's paid to do it, he shouldn't care about beating the other team TOO badly, that's just silly lmao.
If there's an unwritten rule that you can't get a home run if you're up by 7 in the 9th inning, then there should be a *written* rule that the game is over if any team has a 7-run lead at any point in the 9th inning.
How about... If you are up by seven in the top,of the ninth, the other team is up to bat, but if they surpass or tie up, your team gets another inning as a chance to beat back their 'comeback'.
I think that's how they do it in Little League. If one team goes ahead by ten runs (or however many it is) the game is over. They call it the Mercy Rule. Of course having mercy on 12-year old boys is one thing: having mercy on grown men making millions of dollars is another.

@@reeepingk maybe don’t be a bitch for getting absolutely smacked 😂 and if they did that shit on purpose you think I ain’t gonna take them out the game next chance I have 😂
There a lot of unwritten rules in life and sometimes not following them will get you shitcanned. Like don’t sleep with the manager’s girl. You don’t play along, they snuff you out like an anomaly. Scary stuff.

In 2001, Cleveland came back from a 14-2 deficit to win against Seattle. There have been hundreds of 7-run comebacks in MLB history. Do you owe it to the opposing team to strike out and give them a better chance to come back?
Play to entertain the fans and play to win until the game ends. If you're doing anything less, you don't deserve to be out there. "Unwritten rules" are trash, if a rule is important, it is written down. Not giving 100% in a child's game in order to protect other millionaires' feelings is ridiculous.
If this is the "unwritten rule", then they should just have teams that are down 6 after the 6th forfeit the game & go home early. You know, a mercy rule to mercifully spare their fwagile feewings.
Like Atlanta vs Philly in the 2nd inning tonight?
Cause they almost lost a 10 run lead.
lmao that would be awesome.
I thought that these were professional sports teams if you don’t want to get a grand slam scored on you, you probably shouldn’t have walked three fucking people. Stupid af.
@@hyperstargaming6150 Right!? The Braves BARELY squeaked by tonight! If they hadnt tried to "run up the score," they would have lost!
In baseball, unlike other sports, there is no timer. You get a full 27 outs. You can theoretically score a hundred runs on a single out. An infinite number of runs on a single out, really. There is no set timer where it becomes absolutely 100% futile. It isnt like in football where theres only 30 seconds left on the clock and youre down by 5 touchdowns, making a comeback impossible. In baseball, there is no such thing as an "impossible comeback."
“We’ll talk to him.” Seriously? Talk to the Rangers about loading the bases and working the count to 3-0.
Hosmer cleared things up about what really happened there. Seems like everything's fine: twitter.com/AJCassavell/status/1296671227038244864
If that’s me and that’s how the team acts to me doing that, I’m out.
People are such pussies, run the score up. Your fault that you can’t keep up, cry about it.
I would have made the Waah, Waah crying baby sign at them.
SIXPACFISH you would have been hit by fastball
The only mistake Tatis made was not flipping his bat.
Followed by a “suck it” hand gesture.
nowww that would have caused a brawl....
Fax
Best thing the Rangers should do there is nothing then, just give up and accept their annual failure.
god damn right boss, shit i should of totally said that... should of gave them the old deitrich home run pimp job
All for scoring every time there is an opportunity. Every time. You never know when a team will stage a massive comeback.
the solution should be a a "tap out" rule. A team can quit if they are embarrassingly behind.
otherwise shut up and lose big.
It called forefit
@@yesa36 no. it's called conceding

That's the thing though!! Nobody is going to throw in the towel!! Tatis didn't and nobody ever should! This is the best in the world...if ya gotta beat some ass...BEAT SOME ASS!!! Keep swinging Jr. Play ball!!!
Thank you.
Why do the rangers care didn’t they beat the Orioles 30-3?
🤣🤣🤣
Exactly
exactly, even in football that'd be a blow out. lol
And what if Texas comes back? Loser mentality on both sides
Ya we did.
2007: Rangers beat the Orioles 30-3
2020: Rangers - Hey you gotta follow the unwritten rules 😡🤬😭
Oh yah ??
That’s crazy haha
I was actually at that game in Baltimore and they were swinging at everything. So much so that we actually had tickets to the 2nd game of that double header but they let us in in the 5th inning because that game was taking so long.
@@joshualewis514 ugh If I was with my dad he would probably ask if we could go fish instead of watch the O’s lol if we were going to the second game after finding out we were losing that bad
So true. As an O's fan, lifelong, that is the nature of the game. The pitcher tries to get you out. The batter tries to hit the ball. Period. Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the fly. Win or lose, you play the next game and try to win.
That was a painful game to watch. I don’t remember because I was pretty young then, but nobody was saying shit about running up the score then right? They were just shutting on the O’s because the team was terrible.
Coming back from 10-3 isn't impossible, run up the score and keep your team in control of the game.
Old heads: league got soft
Also old heads: UNWRITTEN RULES
This is the part I don’t understand lol the older generations call younger generations and the younger players soft meanwhile they get offended if a hitter literally does his job lol
Haha straight up... But other team can still do a defensive switch?
Boomers: "These kids these days are such snowflakes."
Also Boomers: "OMG HE STARED AT HIS HOMERUN REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
Phil Michaels facts 😂😂 the worst part is when you call them out on it they won’t admit they’re soft as shit lol
Facts. We're out here trying to score runs, if the other team doesn't like it they can forfeit and leave XD
This is why so many people feel like baseball is dumb
No no it is dumb
this is why people KNOW baseball is dumb. I’d have been kicked off my college team for anything remotely like this.
Justyn Jordan baseball is damn near dead because of this. Also the unwritten rules of walking anyone with talent.
Basically what I learned from this is, in pro baseball, when you're giving the team a beat down, you have to let them come back. This is something I'd expect to see in a children's game not an adult sport.
@Barack Obama I mean i’d assume baseball is boring when u have a unwritten rules where u don’t allow players to have “fun”
People complain about baseball losing popularity but then complain when exciting players do exciting things.
Facts ‼
If you made it to the the Big Show and got lucky enough to take a swing at a granny pitch, wouldn’t you swing?
Exactly!!! People complain that baseball is "boring" as well... With all the crybaby unwritten rules about not-celebrating homers, no bat-flipping, no.... swinging on 3-0 cuz ur up... 7??? Wtf man. I can't defend this sport sometimes lol.
My “argument “ is that no lead is safe. You can never score enough runs
Same, its baseball so you can always be winning by 50 and be 1 out from winning, and still lose
Just ask the Falcons and their 28-3 lead over the Patriots hahaha
Just ask the 2002 Oakland A's what happened on September 4th, 2002.
Yep, teams can get hot real quick and score a lot in one inning.
Exactly. You don't see tennis players up 5-0 in a set throw a couple games to make the opponent feel better. In baseball, teams have put up double digits runs in an inning before, so why not extend the lead more
alternate title: "Fernando Tatís Jr. apologizes for playing baseball in a baseball game"
Hahahahaha
You made my day 👍
@gabe ortiz This 1000% - people get offended for them doing what's correct.
Really?! Poor Tatis Jr! Pitchers need to get over themselves! It's not his fault that the Rangers didn't play well! "Unwritten rule" or not!
This is the equivalent of when in basketball if you're winning you aren't allowed to shoot the last shot otherwise the other team gets triggered

I doubt Tatis Sr had to apologize when he hit two grand slams in the same inning against the same pitcher against the Dodgers in 1999.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry everyone. I’m just too good at baseball”

As a former pitcher, I endorse this message.
Lets simplify this for everyone out there, Tatis had to apologize for hitting a Grand Slam.... How incredibly stupid is that?
Right? It's just absurd to have to apologize for... being good?
Apologize for hurting the other teams feelings it never gets old on baseball I play still as an adult and people complain for any kind of amazing feat baseball players are pussies
@dbag0584 sorry but the old school guys are the worst at getting their feelings hurt for getting "shown up"
Apologize to who? I don’t think this is an unwritten rule either. This is the show you never serve it up. How could you complain about this? Your making money to play the game make an out.
Thats how you get blackballed in baseball. Not respecting unwritten rules
