How much more charm did Eurovision have in the past, when everyone sang in their own language, nowadays there is too much English, (but I have nothing against English).
You're right! It's ridiculous and most of the time the part in English isn't even a translation of the main language, so it isn't even so "everybody" can understand the meaning of the song! The concept of Eurovision Contest was to bring Europe together in our diversity: showing what make each country unique and learn grom each other! Now, it's: "let's pretend we all are anglophone, so we all can get along!" This concept that people just can get along if people are alike it very american-ish for my taste! Cultures are diverse and we can get along learning from each other! We aren't doll in the factory, where the goal is to produce a lot of exactly the same doll over and over again!
@@vervideosgiros1156 So true. Europe is exactly that; the diversity of culture, language, tradition, and today many times at Eurovision you don't even know which country the song represents because it is sung in English and follows some instant music trends in the end all sound the same.
It was so wonderful to hear native languages at ESC ! Danish, german, dutch, portugues, norvegian....! But, these last years, lots of songs in native languages climb in the top 10 ! Each language has its own music and beat! Monaco and Luxembourg often won with french singers ( Françoise Hardy , France Gall, Anne- Marie David....)
Great collection!. My favorite from this time is undoubtly 1963 Denmark. Completly ahead of it's time for the contest and simply stands out of all the 1960s winners.
Eurovision is such a crazy freak show now. It's nice to look back on a time when it still had class, and it was more about the music than about outlandish performances.
A full 20 of your picks appear on my top 100. Denmark 1963, Israel 1983 and Luxembourg 1973 are in my top 10 as well! Wonderful to see a “best of Eurovision” list that doesn’t include a single song from the 20th Century.
I agreed in some songs, but... I desagreed in mamy of them... I´m missing, the Number One from Greece, Logan, Salomé, Massiel, Loreen, Elena Foureira, Chanel, .... and others.... Thancks
Beautiful video. Brings back wonderful memories , songs I forgot and others before my time. Watched the first in 71 with 13 on the old black tv from my fantastic late grandma. Miss her still. Abba won in Brighton on my 16th birthday on April 6th, 1974. Five years later I bought both top songs from Israel and Spain. Greetings from Germany
That was a great choice. I tried to do my own version of it and it turns out we would have has 27 in common. Considering the sheer amount of entries (I prefer "songs" raelly but some are clearly more entries.. ) that's surprisingly many. I particularly loved that Sandie Shaw, Françoise Hardy, Mocedades, Monica Zetterlund, Maria Guinot and Maggie Macneal in common and your #1 was my #2 - such a mix of winners/high-placers and way underrated performances. Very cool indeed :-)
Wooooooooooow! While watching I hoped the treni di Tozeur would be included, as it would be my nr 1. Unbelievable that it was only 6th in 1984. It was regularly on the Dutch radio. THANK YOU, completely agree with your favorite.
Agreed with some , disagreed with others but nevertheless it was such a joy to hear these old songs - when the competition was about the music and not about being half naked on stage with crazy fireworks. Thank you - it was lovely!
Those songs in history has brought back some happy memories for me. For me, your 12th song Portugal 1984, will always be number 1 for me. Followed closely by Il treni di tozur, your number 1. Well done. Thanks for the vlog.
Nobody over here in France would know her as Isabelle, even though it is her name ! Don't forget she was immensely popular as "France Gall" for practically fifty years.
This is such a good list. Kinda predictable at times but still great. I really miss Germany 1979, Spain 1985 and 1969, Monaco 1976 and Portugal 1979. Thanks for France 1968 and Greece 1979 :)
Ahaha I am pretty predictable in general Germany 1979 should be there I just forgot about it somehow, so pretend it is La fiesta terminó is a banger, Vivo Cantando and Monaco 76 are pretty good but not some of my favourites, and Portugal 79 is really cute too
Now Spain 1985. Paloma San Basilio - that was a beautiful song. I (British) was living in Spain at the time and watched the contest on my little black and white T.V in my little flat in Valencia. That song brings back so many memories of my intercalary study year in Spain 1985/85 as part of my degree. Lovely song.
Interesting list, only knew about 2/3 of it. Nice to see my local all-time favorite in 2nd. Portugal and Denmark did much better with you than with the juries 😄
I've been diving into Eurovision for a while now, and every time I found a hidden gem, I went to the comment section and found the "OMG!, so underrated, this should have won! Personally, I think the ranking of that year should have been..." type of comment, and after uttering those word, he/she immediately proceeded to list trash after trash from the contest, and ended up placing the alleged hidden gem at number 3, below two tasteless trashy songs, of course. Every time I saw this, my faith in humanity faultered. "Do these people have rotting maggots in their ears?", I asked to myself. Thank you for this video. Today you've proven me there are a few people out there with a decent taste for music. I don't agree with a third of your picks, the timelapse is huuuuuge (like "old Eurovision" means "anything before 10 years ago"), personal feelings and nostalgia are interfeering with a few of your choices, etc. But the list is solid, dude. The list is solid. It has many good songs. Thank you again. I thought I was alone in this world. I have some playlists on my channel, and I'm planning to upload a video somewhat like this, one of these days. It will be more like "The true winners of Eurovision that should have won but the jury was bribed! ", kind of video. Keep up the good work!
O problema do conquistador é de tratar-se da conquista que não agrada ao politicos europeus que poucos votos deram a Portugal e portanto ainda hoje é uma das canções mais bonitas que Portugal levou a Eurovision
Few of these artists became superstars with long career : Abba, obviously, Celine Dion, and France Gall, wich was the best discs sellers in France in 70's and 80's (with the musics of his husband Michel Berger). I saw too Lara Fabian, and Francoise Hardy I believe, great french stars too.
Yes, a lot of francophone stars were involved with Eurovision at some point. Others are Hugues Aufray, Henri Dès, Serge Lama, Patrick Fiori, and Serge Gainsbourg wrote three different songs for the contest :)
Cyprus sent a lot of good songs, I really like mono i agapi and aspro mavro, but my top 3 are in the 1990s Eimai anthropos ki ego, sti fotia, and mana mou are my 3 favourites from Cyprus😊
A very nice compilation. I just realised that all of the Italian entries you added here are superb and timeless in fact. Several orhets, too. Luxembourg for instance, Israel 79 - I agree, one of the, by far, best winners ever, Isr 83 a celebration of life and YUG 83 a joyful ode to love lost, and so many more amazing songs here...
In the old times, singers were real ones and had a voice, composers had an enormous talent and taste, and the songs used to be good, even outstanding. Nowadays, the Eurovision contest is currently a sh*t in comparison with all that...😢
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad we agree on so many :) As for your top20, you know my thoughts on most of them, and as for the others Diese Welt is fine, but Theater is my favourite of her entries (and I see it's yours too hahaha) UK 1960 is my 2nd in its year right after France Johnny Blue is a lovely song and was actually my 51st when making this video, I really wanted to include it but aaah it just barely didn't fit Both of Johnny Logan's wins are very good, but again they just barely missed out And AAAAAH somehow I completely forgot about Dschingis Khan😭 I think I didn't remember that it was actually an esc song, but that would definitely be somewhere in the top50
Lots of fun! Who cares what the snobs say?! We don't have this in the US and if it wasn't introduced to me by some foreign music lovers I wouldn't be at all familiar with great singers like France Gall, Siw Malmkvist, Mina and several others!

My favourite of all the Eurovision songs is Apres toi/1972. 🔝Vicky Leandros❤️
Same song!
Yes spot on. Her 1967 try was pretty poor.
My favourite is Save your kisses for me by The Brotherhood of Man when I was 13 in 1976. Tony in Portsmouth England.
2) Chai chai chai. R.I.P. Ofra Haza. From a portuguese fan 🇵🇹

Indeed, that gave the Contest an extra dimension. Lot’s of charm. Once a year you got to hear Dutch, Finnish and Portuguese. Those were the days!
I’m definitely past it! Older! Not wiser! I honestly thought ( in the past, not recent years! ) 90% sang in English!
Apsolutno!!!
Great selection. Love old Eurovision. Simple stage, orchestra and great music. 🎵
This collection is a treasure! A real flash back in time.

I 1972 you could hear Irish Gaelic and Maltese.
Quanti ricordi di bambina, Umberto Tozzi ed il grande Battiato ,gli Abba ,non ne perdevo una di puntata grazie
Great collection!. My favorite from this time is undoubtly 1963 Denmark. Completly ahead of it's time for the contest and simply stands out of all the 1960s winners.
This is how Eurovision should be. Great songs, live orchestra, pure music . And thank you for putting I treni in first place. RIP Franco Battiato

" Eres tú" del grupo español " Mocedades" ,es una joya.. dificilísimo cantar esa melodía.Sin duda,la mejor❤
In fact they all were of Basque nacionality. There is also basque version of this song.
@JanKowalski-vj9py Their nacionality is spanish, their region is the Basque Country.
I was in suspense what your number one would be. "Il treni di Tozeur" is a very good choice, a true ESC gem. Bravo!
I don't know how I got to your list here...but I love it!! Wish I had born on those days. Thank you!!
Fabolous songs !!!, every song is a nice song!!!!masterpiece!!!🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦

it is the top of classic eurovision songs which are before 1990

¡Que alegría! Mi canción favorita de Eurovisión también es "I treni di Tozeur".
The 70s were great, I love the fashion
Wow. A compilation without Ireland’s Johnny Logan 😮

I'm songwriter of Abba , Anne Marie David and Céline Dion . And l'm Jean Jacques 1969 from Monaco ...
Brilliant
Thanks. An interesting list 👍 though very different from my choices.
FABULOUS!!!!
the last one is by far the very best, it's immortality!!
Dansevise is my favorite from the B&W era
Number one is very well chosen. The rest, well everybody has a different taste.
Nice list but how could you lease out Vicki Liandros. The best winner until Fairy Tale and Alex Rybek
technically she's not left out, I do like Après Toi but I love her 1967 entry far more :)
Agreed! I'd also place Push the Button in there too :)
In the old times, singers were real ones and had a voice, composers had an enormous talent and taste, and the songs used to be good, even outstanding. Nowadays, the Eurovision contest is currently a sh*t in comparison with all that...😢
All the 🎵 Song are very good Thank you❤❤❤,
Number 1: yes, and number 3 from Denmark, my favorite!
Italy 1964 is, must be the very best, - - just listen to the orchestra Beethoven couldn't have done any better--timeless
Now Ding a Dong - a happy song that most love - catchy melody too
Hello :D
My comments: (from Germany)
50. Yeeeeesss , Such a Masterpiece
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad we agree on so many :)
As for your top20, you know my thoughts on most of them, and as for the others
Diese Welt is fine, but Theater is my favourite of her entries (and I see it's yours too hahaha)
UK 1960 is my 2nd in its year right after France
Johnny Blue is a lovely song and was actually my 51st when making this video, I really wanted to include it but aaah it just barely didn't fit
Both of Johnny Logan's wins are very good, but again they just barely missed out
And AAAAAH somehow I completely forgot about Dschingis Khan😭 I think I didn't remember that it was actually an esc song, but that would definitely be somewhere in the top50
wieder super Grüße aus Berlin es grüßt der Berliner
Divine Anne-Marie David " Tu te reconnaîtras " ! 1973 Luxembourg
9:21 mais oui c'est un banger c'est tellement original !
Muy buenas canciones ❤
Lots of fun! Who cares what the snobs say?! We don't have this in the US and if it wasn't introduced to me by some foreign music lovers I wouldn't be at all familiar with great singers like France Gall, Siw Malmkvist, Mina and several others!
I love Massiel winner 1968, Spain. 💖
Bellissime canzoni
