This is how comparison reviewers should be done. Clear concise information. Didn’t waste time with a stupid rambling intro with irrelevant information. Other reviewers should take note on how a great review is done. Thanks guys. You guys are now my first stop if I need a review for a vacuum.

I bought the S7 maxV after seeing your first review of it and I'm still very impressed by its performance.
There is a thick big rug in my home with short sturdy hairs which the S7 has no problem in handling in combination with my hard floors. The mop lifting feature alone, given that you have 'compatible' rugs, is a big win for the S7.
Sometimes I just stare at it when it's cleaning the house or I watch the video feed on my phone. It's just fascinating to see how it intelligently navigates around, avoiding and taking pics of obstacles on the floor. It's simply amazing to me how far these things have come. If this thing can last me a couple of years without breaking, I'd say it's definitely worth the money!

Love the review but I have a suggestion - I would like to see a "carpet deep clean hair" test. I recently upgraded from a Neato D5 to my S7 MaxV because of your glowing reviews of it.. I love the S7, it's much better than the Neato in several ways.. but the one thing I noticed was the D5 is still better at getting my German Shepherds hair out of my area rugs. His hair kind of gets embedded a bit into the threads of the carpet between cleans and the D5 just does a much better job at pulling them out.. I believe it's due to the bristled brush (something the Omni also has). If I run the D5 after my S7 MaxV goes, nearly 1/4 of the bin of the D5 is filled with dog hair, that's how much the S7 misses. I feel like most tests on youtube/sites don't cover this aspect of the vacuum -- but it was a con for me. I have to manually Dyson my area rugs now because the S7 just neglects the doghair. Not a big deal because like I said the AI/Mopping makes such a massive improvement.. but yeah.
Maybe it's something you can add in the future? Regardless thanks for all your hard work.

    • @milham975

Saw a review that showed that bristle brushes are better at picking up hairs on carpets than rubber only brushes, however the bristle brushes also had more hairs stuck around the roller and needed more intervention than the rubber ones, also the bristle brushes rip fibers out of the rugs and shortened the carpets life span much more that fully rubber rollers.

Yes, I have the same issue. I have two German shepherds and also have the S7 Maxv ultra along with the Neato D3 to D7. I have yet to come across a robot vac that performs as well with GSD hair as the D3 to D7 range. I much prefer a full size brush roll and the D shape of the Neatos as well. Unfortunately Vorwerk, the parent company of Neato, refuses to push Neato keep up with technology. Really the only thing they do well now is clean carpet while all their competitors have left them in the dust with other innovations. The new D8 - D10 range was already woefully behind the times before it even released.

I added the info as a reply to a comment but (@Vacuum Wars if that's ok with you) I will paste it here in case anyone is wondering: the difference between Pro Ultra and MaxV Ultra as an official reply from Roborock EU:
    Difference:
1, S7MaxV Ultra is equipped with RGB camera and 3D structured light, which gives the robot the feature of ReactiveAI2.0 Obstacle Avoidance, allowing the robot to recognize some hazards and react differently based on what it sees. S7Pro Ultra doesn't have the feature.
2, You can see and talk via the camera and mic on S7MaxV Ultra, thus realizing the video call feature. The feature is unique to S7MaxV Ultra and not available on S7Pro Ultra.
3, On S7MaxV Ultra there is a status indicator light onboard that can change color according to the status of the robot. S7Pro Ultra doesn't have the indicator light.
4, The mop mount on S7Pro Ultra is undetachable while the one on S7MaxV Ultra is detachable for easier maintenance.
5, S7Pro Ultra is only available in white and in bundle while S7MaxV Ultra is only available in black, and can be purchased either separately or in a bundle.

I have an S7 MaxV. Got it launch day and got some stick vaccuum thing as a bonus. I've been blown away by it and it converted my SO who was completely against robot vacuums. I have only two complaints with the MaxV and then a few nitpicking items:
    1) - at the wood to tile gap that has the little wood accent cover between my living room and kitchen, the Rooborock tends to drive over that elevated accent in a sideways fashion which puts it at a slight angle. This makes it leave dirt and debri in the lower portion of the floor crack.
    2) Trash bag is small. The vacuum runs daily, but I live in an area that gets lots of dirt and two dogs that shed. It's something like a bag every 3 weeks if I'm lucky. That will get costly.
    3) I wish it would tell you when the water was getting low or the trash bag getting full. Instead it waits until after it can't clean the mop, after it can't dispense the trash.
    4) Generally tweaking the rooms is easy, but when things go wrong it's almost impossible to fix. ON my current map, it sees part of my closet as my living room and part of my closet as my bedroom, and adding walls or lines and splitting the rooms hasn't corrected it.
    5) It doesn't pick up leaves well. I wish they'd add a soft brush roller to the front on the next model.
    6) I wish you could plumb this device. It'd be the ultimate machine. One for new water and one to wash out the tank.
    7) The dock feels like a weak point and I sure hope it's gonna last. It so far is holding up well but it does feel like it might be the first thing to go.
    8) If it gets caught on a rug - sometimes it'll push up a corner of a loose rug - it most likely won't recover.
    9) Let's say it starts a whole home cleaning and it's cleaned the part of the living room and you now decide it just needs to do the kitchen and living room. If you pause it and select kitchen and living room, it starts the whole living room over. There is no option to just modify it on the fly to finish up the living room and then move to the kitchen.

The spinning pads on the Omni cleaned better than i even thought possible, my wife and i immediately noticed how bright the room was even the ceilng seemed cleaner lol and we have a pretty clean place. Anyway, if you can find the Onni for 1k like i did, that is a steal conpared to similarly priced products. To tell which product is better is difficult, varcuum war test in some case only. In low pile carpet that is ideal for lifting function of roborock, its suction is very poor comparing to Ecovacs products. No hot drying is minus point of Roborock as well, like you use washing machine to wash your clothes but you do not take clothes out when completing task. Not mention to design in details, you will see Ecovacs is better in many aspects like 3 filter layer system, lidar with protect case...In general, each products have its own advantage and disadvantage, if can try both is perfect!

One thing that I haven't seen in reviews in how they handle longer hair. I don't know if there's really good way to test it though.
I ask, because we've had a Roomba for the past 5 years and have been looking at getting one of the self emptying vacuums. However, our current Roomba gets so much of my wife's hair tangled in the brushes and rollers, that I feel like you'd have to manually remove it every couple of runs anyways. That pretty much defeats the purpose of having a self emptying vacuum. It could probably the same for all vacuums like this, but I was just curious. Didn't want to spend $1400 on a "automated" vacuum that I have to clean every time it's used.

How often they need to be refilled is almost entirely situational - how big an area are you mopping, how much water are you telling the Robot to use, and how often? I have the S7MaxV and get about 2 runs per internal tank of water for my 80sqm area, and the dock can refill the tank about 6 times, so on average about every dozen or so mopping runs I need to refill the dock tank. I have it mop twice a week so basically every 6 weeks I refill the tank. Your results will, of course, vary. As for how dirty the tanks get - that's not really important, since the tanks are easily removable and cleaned (I wash out both clean and dirty when I refill the clean tank). Cleaning the accumulated gunk in the dock is more relevant - I haven't had mine long enough to know for sure but based on how it looks so far I'm guessing I'll need to wipe it down, maybe vacuum up spare lint/etc. 2 or 3 times a year.

The only 2 things that are worrying me, and actually stopping from buying one yet (currently am happy owner of Roborock S6):
    1. spinning mopping seems better in cleaning (despite tests, I feel like it should do more), and simpler implementation, simpler cleaning mechanics etc. Feels more robust in general. I can see how it can be fitted with lift mechanism too, eventually. I fear that roborock's complicated washing brush thing is more prone to failure. IMHO ofc.
    2. I wait till someone adds proper cyclone vacuum in such base (like on one of xiaomi non-warching stations). Don't want to deal with those bags. Why does it have to be either good water cleaning, but with messy bags, or good cyclone base, but with no water in it :(...

The spinning mops are better in two ways:
      1. The have a larger area that's scrubbing the floor and don't need as tight of a zigzag to clean.
      2. They are better at wet spills even though they aren't really ment to mop anything but dry stains.

Slight issue with one of these results. You said it took longer for Roborock to saturate it's mop pad which is true without the Ultra Dock. With the Ultra Dock, the dock cleans it's mop before cleaning so its already wet.

    • @milham975
      @milham975 2 роки тому +1

This is true, however i have noticed with mine that if the robot doesn't return to the base often enough the mop pad will only saturate around the place where the water comes from and you can see it by the thin wet lines on the floor. This happens even if there's still water in the on board tank. My recommendation is to have the robot re-wet the mop pad around every 30 min, or after every room.

Great video. I have an Ecovacs T8 AIVI and it works flawlessly in my home, so much better then my previous Roomba S7 that just couldn't navigate between my rooms properly, but if I was to upgrade right now I think the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra looks great. The benefits that attract me the most are the ability to lift the mopping pad for mixed hard-floor/carpet homes like mine and the superior obstacle avoidance at least with the firmware revisions on both machines at time of testing.
That 5 minutes for the Roborock to fully saturate its mopping pad is disappointing though especially on small rooms where that could easily mean that half the room has been covered before the mopping becomes fully effective. In fact if the first room it mops is a smallish bathroom it might even mop the whole room without the pad being fully saturated. I do wonder though, with the mop cleaning functionality built into the docking station, whether a firmware update could fix that. If it is about to start a cleaning run and knows that it has areas where it will be using the mop on that cleaning run (and it would know that once it has its map built) could it start dripping water through the mop for 5 minutes before it backs off the dock? Perhaps it could even use the cleaning scrubbers in the dock to help distribute the moisture across the whole area of the cleaning pad as it is pre-saturating the pad. That seems entirely do-able to me and in my view would be a worthwhile improvement that should only need a firmware update.

being one who owns the T8 AIVI, I can say that the camera and therefore obstacle avoidance of Ecovacs is literally nonexistent. The map zoning is HIGHLY limited (you can only divide the map in two - good luck if you've got a more complex layout like a room with two doorways) - and the robots tends to both IGNORE the no-go-zones from time to time (which, in my case, means it does get stuck regularly...) OR it starts to TILT the map by 10-45 degrees to either side, drawing an ADDITIONAL map over his existent one.
The support however - being exclusively in chinese - is more of a burden than a help. Therefore: NEVER EVER Ecovacs again!

I also find the T8 AIVI software to be extremely buggy. If it doesn’t do a good job dividing your space into rooms automatically, you can attempt to edit this manually, but the editing is so buggy as to be nonfunctional, and if you consider that it also has issues where it needs to discard your map fairly regularly, the painstaking effort of trying to manually edit the room divisions is not worth it.
It also struggles to climb the thresholds in our home (an older home, admittedly), despite the fact that they are technically within the limits of its climbing ability… it fails inconsistently so we’ve had to avoid using it for certain rooms.
Finally, it’s auto empty base really struggles with pet hair if it gets very full at all, so you either have to run it super frequently or ensure it only cleans small sections at a time before returning to empty, and this management is something one mostly has to do manually.
I used to really trust vaccuum wars reviews, but the fact that most of these issues never got a mention in the review of the T8 AIVI makes me skeptical, particularly when he is reviewing the software and saying different models have “all of the features”.

It's more likely that the air shipping rules get very messy once you have batteries above a certain size (usually 90wh) -- in this case the robot vacs have 75wh batteries. Yeah, but as good as the Ecovacs hardware may be, the app is very buggy, it constantly requires you to remap, and needs a full cleaning in order to make a map. When looking at reviews the main complaint that drives people away from Ecovacs is the app.

Avoid buying Deebot/Ecovacs products in Australia. Their Victorian service centre had my Deebot 9 in for warrantee repairs twice for the same fault. They can't repair it and Ecovacs have refused to replace it or give a refund. Don't let this happen to you. Choose another brand.

I understand they give excellent results but I'm just concerned about the corners, how the circular body vacuum do well in pivot/corner areas?
Their brush extends .. make corner cleaning easy?

Still waiting for Roborock to make a cleaning duo of separate vacuums and mops. The mop could be instructed to follow the vacuum (or not) but would automatically avoid rugs. This would allow them to make a truly amazing mop/cleaning base with no compromises.
Also, they need to solve the "corner problem" that plaques all round vacs. Maybe a little suction tube that extends when it senses walls on both sides. 🤫
That said, my S6 has cleaned the house (mostly partial runs) more than 2,000 times without a hitch.

2 robots would cost way more that's why no company is doing it. Double chassis, double lasers, wheels, etc etc... no one is asking 2 robots.

Could you include in your analysis whether the robots supports connecting to WiFi networks with roaming (802.11k and 802.11r) enabled? Having a WiFi with such feature (eg: mesh APs) is fundamental to have decent coverage in homes with large floor plants, yet some robot brands even thought support multiple floors (like Neato) they don't support such networks.
