I'm in the uk, and only last year, took out a partial subscription to SKY TV, so I've been finding all sorts of programs that I've never had access to before. Today, I discovered Real Time with Bill Maher. He really doesn't hold back with his comments and opinions does he! 😅😅 (most of which I agree with). What a refreshing change!!

I remember George Carlin saying doctors were just "guesswork in a white jacket". I wouldn't go that far but I don't deify them either. They call it a "practice" for good reason. They build on what they know and try to improve on it. They just don't always hit the target. I just wish they didn't practice arrogance so much. You disagree with them and they're like "OK go ahead and die, then, see if I care".

Science is our best educated answer to the current facts. That’s why it can be a moving target. 99% of all doctors are going by the facts and research currently available on the subject. Viruses mutate and what worked 10 years ago might not work now.
Today society gets confused about seeking a second opinion with using a quick google search to find someone that falls into the narrative they already had.

I work in insurance and I talk to very, very sick people every day. Most doctors are good at their job from what I see / hear especially considering the current working conditions in all health jobs. But every now and then I come across a major fuck-up. The patients don‘t usually sue here except when they can prove gross negligence.
      Errore humanum est.
Remember when a waiter drops a tray - if they were a doctor, a slip up, one mistake can could cost someone else‘s life.
When you pay a ton of money to get healthy but end up with a slight or major limitation due to chance and an overworked doctor overlooking something - hypothetically - that is the risk we take. Technology, treatments and science have drastically reduced a lot of the risks. The rest is up to chance. We‘re human, so I can‘t understand how shifts are planned for doctors, APNs and surgeons.

Ok, I'll try and slow this down, so you understand it. I realize you're kinda slow, and think paint chips are snacks, and I think it's a beautiful thing that you make strangers' days at bus stops better with hugs, so understand this is coming from a place of love. 'Defund the police' is a sentiment that applies to *all* police, everywhere. Even the ones doing a good job, which is most of them. It's an anti-law enforcement SENTIMENT, which lumps all police into the same basket. 'Defund the FBI' is a very specific thing, which targets a corrupt ORGANIZATION, not the profession as a whole. The FBI has proven it has been captured by the communists in our government. It has now become a political entity, not a law enforcement entity. So in short, 'defund the police' and 'defund the FBI' are NOT the same thing, nor are they comparable. I could get behind 'defund Uvalde police' but not 'defund police' in general. But again, the feebs have given up all pretense of professionalism or objectivity, and have proven to be corrupt. They have invented 'evidence', lied, entrapped, and have declared their allegiance to communism. Not every individual agent, but the organization as a whole. And, having worked with the FBI before, our general philosophy concerning them was 'if they don't have a computer, they can't add 2+2'. We called them 'Famous But Ignorant'. Some good people in the organization, but the organization itself needs to be burned to the water line.

It's a remarkably safe medication when used at recommended dosages. The problems people have had with acetaminophen were related to taking excessive dosages, mainly by taking additional acetaminophen while taking other combination products that also contained acetaminophen (e.g. taking 3,000+mg of acetaminophen from hyrdocodone/APAP while also taking 3,000+mg of acetaminophen from another source daily).

Regen ag although a better option cannot be scaled to provide the meat that developed nations currently eat. There is simply not enough land. Plus the regeneration of soils and the drawdown of carbon has a limit, once the soils are restored you just have animals releasing net GHGs. Besides that there is still the issue of water use, farm animals consume 1/3rd of the worlds fresh water. Due to trophic levels it will essentially always be the case that plant farming will be better for the environment, you grow the plants then eat the plants, rather than growing lots of plants and using them to fatten animals for an extended period. Plus regen ag can be done with plants, there's no need to use animals to regenerate soils. The data is clear, for the environment to do better we've got to have less animal products on our plates.

The language is important. But lay people rarely remember it accurately. I learned a lot reading a big book Jane Fonda wrote on foods and healthy diets back in. the 1980s. Common diseases or disorders that have been around for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years can be incredibly difficult to diagnose even though the symptoms are listed right there in every medical book. We have become so civilized that a simple disease passed by a blood parasite seems foreign and unknowable to us. What would happen today if a homeless person stepped or was carted into an ER with delirium, aggression, and foaming at the mouth? The obvious answer to us nonprofessionals would be "animal bite, rabies" but to the professionals, it would take multiple tests, lasting months to come to this conclusion, at which point not only would the original patient be dead, but others would have received similar infections and possibly died before the location is quarantined, sterilized and the source found and destroyed.

I've recently AND FINALLY been diagnosed with another tick borne illness similar to Lymes Disease called Morgellons disease and I can completely relate to Ross Douthat's plight. For two years I've been told I was delusional regardless of my obvious symptoms. I've suffered like hell! I've at long last been seen by a specialist and properly diagnosed and have been on Doxycycline about 9 months already and I'm probably looking at years of taking it. I still haven't received a straight answer about how long I will be on it. However, every disease at some point had to be studied and verified to become a classified disease so I am extremely thankful to every health practitioner that has listened to their patients and taken their complaints seriously. I'm thankful for the research and science that we have so far. I have no doubt that eventually this too will become a legitimate classified disease. I can honestly say this time last year I was suffering much more than I am currently and I believe it is due to finally receiving treatment. This condition is dreadful and I have already been through two different cancers and the subsequent surgery, chemo and radiation treatments. I'm in severe heart failure and stage III kidney failure just to name a few! lol I have begun to believe I had the Morgellons disease before any of my other illnesses and most likely my other illnesses are due in part or altogether to years and years of untreated Morgellons disease. It's just my own personal hunch and I cannot prove anything but given so many crossover characteristics, connecting the dots is not that big of a leap. I will continue however to follow my physicians advice. I am confident that when and if they know more they can and will help me more. Evidence and the Scientific Method of peer reviewed indexed studies are better than any alternative I'm aware of and I'll take an educated approach anyday over ignorance. Unfortunately sometimes the science takes a while to catch up to the disease to be treated, so we inch our way forward. I am forever indebted to those willing to fight the way forward with this research.

As someone who found out that antibiotics can be a danger to one's system. I still advocate for their use. I was diagnosed with "colitis" last year and given augmentin. Come to find out that in some cases, Augmentin actually creates a much bigger problem. Antibiotics kill BOTH the good and bad flora in your system. What Augmentin does to some people is allow the growth of a certain flora to go nuts, which in my case, created an even bigger medical issue. My colon was full of this bad flora and I was extremely ill. I spent a week in hospital and had to take another antibiotic that killed the bad stuff in order to get healthy again. Now, this only happens to certain people. I cannot tell you what type, but it does. This should not prevent folks from using Augmentin, but to be aware of the side effects of antibiotics. Augmentin works well for a huge majority of people. Mine is just a cautionary tale of what can occur, it does not happen to everyone.

@@ljubicasmolcic7550 Like his organization got money from Russia and his father was a sympathizer of the KKK?
Sure they are true, but not relevant in this contest.

I live in New Jersey, and was bitten by a tick, which resulted in a bout of Lyme disease. I had flu like symptoms, fever, and a weird rash (not at all like typical Lyme). After about a week of this, I went to the doctor. He took one look and said "let's test you for Lyme, meanwhile take these antibiotics for Lyme". Test came back positive, I took the meds for 30 days and was cured. So, not every case turns into a chronic disease.

That's because you were seen by a doctor who knew better. If you treat right away, it works. If you wait, it may not work, and is even unlikely, too, without a major bout of abx.

Being verbose and articulate doesn't make you a narcissist. And, we're all self-centered to an extent---it just depends on the degree.

The US is crazy for drugs, but Tylenol is just called Paracetamol in other countries, and is totally available over the counter. It's fine to use.

I would say it's fine to use as directed. The issue comes from liver toxicity that can arise if too many pills are taken.
