Jeremy Barbati not severe enough as Ebola, which had an estimated 60% mortality rate despite it being not as prevalent and only in a few countries. We got off easy here

@@MauricioGonzalezFilms Well to be fair, Bill was never a democrat to start, sure he likes pot, thats about it though. Its also confusing in the US when people interchangeably say "liberals" and "left-wing" as they are opposed. Liberalism is a "right-wing" ideology based on capitalism where gov does as little as possible. It doesnt help either that most communist parties say in Europe are actually very conservative but no one would dispute that they are (far)left group, so mixing up these terms just confuses the masses imho and does not help clarify anyone's position. So for example Bernie is a leftwing progressive that wants strong state policies and regulations to guarantee a higher minimum standard of living, where Biden is a liberal centrist that likes private initiative and have the state just be there as support. Normaly (read in EU democracies) these would not be candidates in the same party, but given the US is stuck with this stupid FPTP winner takes all system, it forces a two-party system that just confuses everyone. Which is why Trump in particular, but the Republicans in general have it easier since they tend to all be right-wing conservatives, which means they want the state to define society in their image and have gov there as a tool to enact their economic policies, similar to the liberals but more targeted hands on approach.
Love Brian Cox and throughly enjoyed him last night. It boggles my mind how countries don't have universal healthcare. As a Canadian I understand it isn't perfect but nothing is. Yes there are waits but I do get to see a doctor or NP and it doesn't cost me. Sure if you have insurance, you can use it especially for tests like MRI or CT scan. No one is stopping you. If fact, it helps move the flow of peoples needs. It's common sense and we know, that it's just not that common.
The fact is, care is prioritized to serve those most in need, first. It only makes sense. Brian Cox hit me in the feelz when he explained succinctly the origin of his views: poverty. But we Americans are still somehow stuck in the mindset of "the wealthy and the temporarily embarrassed" and that clouds the collective judgment on such serious matters.
There was a time when Canada did not have the healthcare system it has today and no doubt there was opposition to its introduction. The US is just taking longer. There are those whose interests would be better served with the current system. I’m not sure if your mind is less boggled.
Agreed, and the "wait" argument against universal health care in the US is inaccurate, as I have an HMO through my company that can have insane wait times to see doctors.

Brian Cox is my hero! Great response about the NHS. America would benefit so greatly by Medicare for All. But, it needs a single payer system and free college, because if doctors did not have such crippling student loan debt and insurance companies and big Pharma weren't in control of health care there would no reason to bankrupt families with extremely expensive health care.

"It's run like shit" because the UK has, like many European countries, allowed certain very American capitalistic ideas and policies to infect their social democratic systems. This is why the current PM Johnson thought it reasonable to say so nonchalantly that NHS would also be scrutinized. That same asshole who promised Brits that their NHS would gain back £350M weekly that never actually existed or went from the UK economy to the European Union. Ask people who've actually lived under single payer health care, I've NEVER heard a single individual say they would trade it for our for-profit illness management system. Not ONE. Bill sounds skeptical and dismissive about the words from the person who actually lived under the system. He follows that up by stating that salaried pay for doctors will be a tough sell. Many doctors are salaried already. There's no guarantee that under a single-payer system they will make less nor make more. No country who has enacted single-payer healthcare has seen a massive migration of doctors out of the country, and neither would we (going where?). The fact that in study after study an overwhelming number of healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, pas, you name it, they would rather see a single-payer system than our current system, and most of the data isn't even close, it's overwhelmingly in support of a system that focuses on actual healthcare and not generation of profits from management of people's illnesses (more commonly it's management of symptoms, forget the causes).
Metalbass10000 I live in the UK and as Brian Cox said the NHS in the UK is incredible. The Conservative party has always undermined it. What little money was made went directly to the hospital. The doctors, nurses and staff are very dedicated and hard working. They don't work for the money. Healthcare and education should be driven by the State and provided for all regardless of their income.

The United States has not felt war on its own soil and a complete breakdown of society that can occur so we don't feel as strongly bonded as the British do. In Britain everyone was in it together and feel that it is a good thing to make sure everyone is taken care of.

I listen to an Emergency Medicine podcast out of Canada. One episode they interviewed an ER Doc at LA County. He described how a male patient with a potentially lethal (non-contagious) condition and no medical insurance refused care and walked out rather than risk bankrupting his family. I will never forget the bewilderment of the Canadian doctors as they heard this story. They clearly had never witnessed anything remotely like this. As a US ER doc I witness similar on a regular basis. It was comforting to hear the Canadian docs express the appropriate outrage and incredulity. When I was a little girl, debating whether to try to be a vet or a physician, no one said that the human healthcare system I would be working in would mandate I treat the banker's child differently than the plumber's child. That is what we have in the US. And it is morally offensive. Any system is going to reflect the funding and care that goes into it. And I know the Canadian system is not perfect. BUT, it will be interesting to see how rapidly this virus sweeps Canada. This is herd medicine ladies and gentlemen. The US's lack of ability to screen, monitor, treat and support the ENTIRE herd will mean this is going to hit faster. The epidemiologic goal is to SLOW the virus's spread so the hospitals that are already swamped have a little better chance to deal. Otherwise, the doc has to choose which patient gets the ventilator and which patient gets to die. There are not enough ventilators. There are not enough critical care (ICU) beds. There are not enough critical care nurses or intensivists. Baseline critical care capability is already inadequate. Every ER I have worked can't get patients out of the ER and into the ICU because of current baseline lack of critical care capacity. We have to remove the privatization and profit motivation from our medical system. The US refused to accept test kits offered by the WHO. Why? There is a lot of money to be made from testing and elements within the US health system succumbed to greed. MEDICARE FOR ALL OR CORONAVIRUS FOR ALL. TIME TO CHOOSE.

I don’t think Bill realizes he turned into a classic Republican over the holidays. Just no longer has his fingers on the pulse. I think he’d rather talk Trump than Bernie. 50 year old Bill would be calling this 60yo a “boomer”.
I agree, it was kind of sad to see.

@A C Speaking of healthcare, I believe Tommy Douglas (the founder of universal healthcare here in Canada) is in the running to be on the new $5 bill. Great idea!

I'll enter a slight dissent for the sake of variety. I'm a canadian-U.S. dual citizen and have spoken to hundreds of people about the health systems of the two countries. Anyway, anyone with two IQ points to rub together understands that productivity is an absurd measure to judge automation by since you don’t keep the robots and the human worker on the payroll - you replace the human... so yeah productivity does remain relatively consistent, then the human enters the gig economy or drops out of the economy and idiots like Ross tell you everything is fine in decadent America. Bill is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for guests these last several shows. Smart liberals are probably afraid they’ll be canceled by their own party and have decided to hole up in the wine cave and weather the storm.
He is a hack. He heard the discussion but didn't understand it
Damn Bill, can you please get better panelist. A little painful to watch .
Who do you recommend, my good sir?
Blitzenking Nina Turner and Monica Lewinski?
@@bjasmine After quickly looking her up, Mrs Turner would be a good choice. Lewinsky, on the other hand, is not a good idea. People would be more interested in her 'relationship' with Bill Clinton and her life after the fact then her political stance and understanding.
Watching this on 10-17-20. Bill should watch this today. If we only knew...
Scaramucci is just great. No, seriously. The boy is smart...
He was spot-on for that show.
He looked stoned to me.
Well, that didn't age well. Bill was pretty well off about Covid19.
I think we all were. Some more than others, though.
I think the main reason Britain has embraced the NHS is because they have tasted firsthand the devastation war brings to a nation. The United States has not felt war on its own soil and a complete breakdown of society that can occur so we don't feel as strongly bonded as the British do. In Britain everyone was in it together and feel that it is a good thing to make sure everyone is taken care of.
That's a good point: it wasn't just Britain, either: all of Western Europe adopted national health systems after WW2.
After Obama finally got Congress, kicking and screaming, to pass the Affordable Care Act, the (then) French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, said to him at a G7 meeting:
*"Welcome (finally) to the club of states that don't dump sick people."*
The Washington Post commented: "He said it in French, but you could *hear* the *smirk* ".
You're absolutely right about this which is so sad.
Are there any progressives left who bill invites on
No he's an establishment hack. Fuck this show and that toupee wearing asshole.
Most of the time, actually. This show had Brian Cox, proud lifelong socialist.
Great panel.
A debate between Biden and Bernie before the Tuesday vote would have been eye opening and a game changer
it is insane they don't have a debate between Super Tuesday and next big election day.
This show is getting so lame . Loved brain Cox though.
I agree - Brian Cox is super!
@Revolution Dance Yep, it's lame how not everyone is an insufferable gatekeeper for progressivism. *eyeroll*
Brain Cox?
@@rckblzr That's what I call mine, because that's what I think with most of the time
How would you like to travel coast to coast in a two-seater car with Bitecofer?
I really don't understand what the general American electorate is doing. Year after year they give their vote to some "moderate" in the hopes that they will bring about change. This never happens and yet they continue to vote in this predictable red state/blue state pattern. My question for you, gentle voter, is what exactly are you hoping to happen this year that will differ from our past.
Women who are fat and clearly don't take care of their bodies shouldn't be making cruel jokes about men who have no control over their genetic predispositions to hair loss.
Nan Man but look at how BRAVE she is! So fat and so brave! 😂
@Jimmy Walter She is the fatty who started this off by making the irrelevant and cruel comment about bald millennial men at 40. I'm not discounting her analysis, but she doesn't have to be cruel and demeaning to others while making her points.
And yeah, I'm aware that calling her fat isn't nice either, but it's a deserved retort to what she said.
@Deadbeat Donny FFS, you moron. She wasn't make a bald joke about Trump. She was making a bald joke about 40 something millennials who are going bald., through no fault of their own.
That lady needs her own show. Very witty and informative.
She should have a cooking show.
Well said Brian Cox, well said Sir
Wow that first lady is so out of touch with actual people
Agreed. She seems to think Millenials are afraid of losing "what they have." I think they know they 'aint got nuthin' and are mad about it. I think she's afraid.
"Election forecaster", my arse. She sounded, very much, like she simply engages in wishful thinking. And what she's wishing for is Status Quo Joe, ugh!
We are simply asking for health care to be affordable for everyone. The insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and doctors will still make a profit. Premiums, deductibles, prescription drug costs, and co-pays are absolutely criminal to levy on any family. We are twenty years behind, and this health care system needs to exposed for how it is ruining lives.
gunny1391 just check out the Canadian health care model..but the US powers that be don’t want to do that...nothing is perfect...but what the alternative..❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
3:55 Interesting discussion about Covid19. My how things change in the 3 weeks from 7 March to today 28 March.
When I was a little girl, debating whether to try to be a vet or a physician, no one said that the human healthcare system I would be working in would mandate I treat the
banker's child differently than the plumber's child.
Why? There is a lot of money
to be made from testing and elements within the US health system succumbed to greed.
MEDICARE FOR ALL OR CORONAVIRUS FOR ALL. TIME TO CHOOSE.
Ms. Rachel Bitecofer you rock! Appreciate your opinion!
SHE would appreciate a sandwich.
Caitlin Flanagan... I am so glad I don't know her, nor do I ever want to see her on any program again.
Think you mean Rachel Bitecofer.
@@keihndeth Well, I can tell you she is absolutely wrong about Arizona flipping. We are a diehard Republican state. Phoenix is the Republican arm, Tucson the Democrat arm. Phoenix to Tucson is 5:1. Tucson voters won't flip people in Phoenix.
Yea, I dont hate what she said, but jeez she is obnoxious.
Josh P AZ is due to flip, like it did in 2018
I expect Rachel Bitecofer, reads tarot cards when she's not making New Year predictions.
* looks down at his pillow laiden comfy chair and frowns *
Dont feel bad
My hereroids needs a mountain of pillows
Who knew I'd ever agree with Scaramucci?
But when he agrees with Rachel Bitecoffer, I have no choice. She is the only person on television giving reasonable comfort that maybe we can vanquish that POS POTUS.
Weird seeing them sitting close together in the days before covid ;)
Rachel Bitecover makes me want to vote for Trump
An impressively unlikable person.
Oh look another panel whose predictions and research will fail in November
ThirtySmthng It's a Real Time tradition.
Well we don’t know that, do we?
The panel acts like they never met a narcissist in real life before!!
That stats lady is really confident for someone who deals in probability.
There's something slightly amusing about the first Hannibal Lector (from Manhunter, pre-Silence of the Lambs) discussing healthcare: "Yes, I'll eat you, but then I'll make sure that whatever's left of you gets the best possible healthcare."
Bill you’ve been on cushions too long. Most of the us haven’t been sitting on a cushion.
I had a cushion, but it's old and worn from using the same one for so long and not being able to afford a new one.
She is nauseating
I know right? I HATE your mom.
Bitecofer you're wrong. Period.
Brad Cooke she’s mouthy isn’t she?
@@coachk37 Uppity?
Very mouthy. You can tell Bill was getting a little annoyed.
When Agamemnon said it's the management in the health system that has been trash............... I felt that shit.
I would have gone with Hannibal myself, because he DID play the role before Hopkins.
Omg this guy was right about Covid!
Bill’s assessment of the impact of COVID did not age well... 😬
That Rachel Bitecoifer lady is absolutely delusional.
Maher is sooo ignorant on what's going on outside of his bubble, it's truly embarrassing
give an example
Funny watching the conversation on Carona from back then.
I love Brian Cox
