      Ola Englund , I am actually curious to see who has an even lower budget solution.
      I know people have gotten Dime’s tone with a Line6 Über Metal pedal, or with an MXR Fullbore Metal...
      I have them both and I have yet to try them to dial into Dime’s tone territory.
      I did, however, get Dime’s tone with the MXR Dime Distortion together with an MXR 6-band EQ into the front of my Randall RH200.
      I also have the Dime D100 amp, I just need to find the time to tinker with all of it...! 😂🤘

      @@H_A_R_M Hmm, speaking of a lower budget solution I indeed have one.
      WMD Acoustic Trauma: It's a 2-channel preamp pedal with noise gate and its equalizer section is based on the Furman PQ-3. ($300)
      ISP Technologies Stealth Ultra-Lite 180 Watt Pedalboard Power Amp: A cheaper alternative to the Seymour Duncan Powerstage. ($275)
      T.C. Electronic Mimiq Mini Doubler: All other doubler pedals are pricier than that little guy. ($80)

    Can't believe how much difference the Mimic does!!! Without it the tone is not that close... Amazing how close you got with basically 3 stomp boxes!

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 5 років тому +1

      I've got the full size TC Mimic. I love it, it's so good and especially for the price. It was something like £60 new I got it for. And it has stereo outputs if you wanna use that, plug into two amps at once like Ola mentioned that Dimebag did.
      Cos of how much I liked the mimic I almost immediately got another TC pedal, their Uni-vibe clone the viscous vibe. It's amazing. And it has this weird feature that a lot of their pedals have, there's a phone app where big guitarists create their own specific settings for the pedal using the PC program for it, tones you couldn't just get by twiddling the pedals, then you click it and hold your phone up to your guitars pickup and it plays a high pitched noise and then the tone is uploaded to the pedal and you can use it straight away. I dunno if I'd ever try doing it on stage but it's possible to do it. It's crazy.

    A friend of mine is a massive Pantera/Dimebag fan and has been trying to get close to his original tone, so I might show him this video to give him a hand with what pedals to look for. Aside from that, I'd say you sounded pretty damn close so great work, Ola

    If Dimebag was alive today with all the brutal sounding amps out there I wonder what his tone would have evolved into.

  • @livesays
    @livesays 5 років тому +7

    I saw a picture of Dimebags first amp, a Yamaha G100 112. It had a Celestion G12m70 speaker. I heard he used the same speakers in his 4x12 cabs later on as well. This speaker is a key ingredient in his sound.

    • @MrSimondaniel3
      @MrSimondaniel3 5 років тому

      mm idk bout that . yes + no. sure it would help to have his correct speaker but without the correct tone, the speaker alone doesnt get u close. i feel like any good rock guitar speaker should be capable of heavy tone. im sure those ones u mentioned are pretty rockin.

    • @livesays
      @livesays 5 років тому +1

      @@MrSimondaniel3 for sure a speaker is not the only factor but it can be a big factor. You'll never get his tone with a g12k100 (too dark sounding) and a Vintage 30 can be pretty bright. Having the right speaker (or one in the same tonal range) will get you in the ballpark much easier.

    Dude AVOID THE LIGHT by Pantera. Nobody ever talks about this song AT ALL. I remember the first time I ever listened to that song when I bought the Dracula 2000 soundtrack 19 years ago. That whole song and solo fucking floored me! Still my favorite Pantera song!

    A pedal you could try out Dime related would be the Randall RG13 amp in a pedal. Its supposed to be the RG series preamp but 3 channel. The new RG amps like the 1003 and the RG80 combo with the remake of the jaguar speaker sound not too far off from the old ones to my ears and this is from an RG80ES owner and they're SUPER cheap

    Please do a modern take on Dimebags tone! Like a new Randall RG series. What you would think Dimes tone would sound like today. That would be awesome!

    Would love to see a video on the solo to “The Sleep”. My favorite Dimebag solo, possibly my favorite solo from any guitar player. It’s epic... 👍🏽

    Awesome man - i love this, got to hear it on your vid with the guitars at Frank's on the other side of Aus and you had good footage of the sound with your setup - able to see how you have the eq sorta set.
    Horizon Apex Preamp now priority 1.
    Cheers Ola

    Great fucking job man, Dime was the man and you pretty much nailed the sound as far as not having all of the gear he used. I have a Krankenestien and all of the other pedals Dime used he's my favorite guitarist for sure. That cross is badass I wish I would have kept my Washburns now I just have my Deans and the custom built Dime ML's that I built myself. Love the channel.

    I bought a Bill&Becky L500XL pickup and a Krank Maximus pedal. The pedal itsef doesn't have enough gain but i used it as an OD pedal in front of my amp to boost a classic overdrive (low gain) channel. Brought me close but not quite. Then i downtuned and used fat strings (11-52). Works wonder. I'm closer to damageplam than vulgar display of power but it sounds wonderful regardless.

    Maybe an OD in front of the pedals would give that extra gain... Although it was a high level of gain, I thought it was missing a bit of the chunkiness (?) when playing one string muted...

    I managed to get close to Dimebag's tone using the Chug pedal, MXR 6 band and Sonic Stomp Maximizer and Ola's IR DIMED.
