In Sinclair’s book, Lifespan, he details his incredible research into NMN and then spouts the anecdotal miracle his elderly father experienced from taking buckets of NMN. But now he’s behind preventing my elderly mother from getting it over the counter. Pure greed. Thanks for your good work and bravery on publishing the truth on both the research and supplement space. P.S. We both indulge in niacin based on your information on its effectiveness as a precursor for increasing NMN as a naturally occurring molecule. And shame on the FDA for granting an individual biotech company proprietary rights…to a naturally occurring molecule. Schmucks.

@@georgepappas8535 Overall I like Sinclair. I don't have problem with him making money from it. If it really works he deserves the money. But he could just say "I put so much work into this and I want to be paid for it." Not "I just want world to be a better place and basically I have nothing to do with my own company."
I also dislike his change of tune from "We cannot be 100% sure, but basically it is safe. Resveratrol also might have strong anticancer properties and I gave it to my own mother when she had cancer." and then I listen to his next video and he is like "I wouldn't take NMN and Resveratrol if I had cancer or risk of cancer in my family". Well, maybe there is a reason after all why they give some cancer patients nad SUPRESSORS.

@@Tom_Mroz Yep. It won't. Pure NAD+ does actually reverse certain factors of aging to a point and slows it down in most other ways. It is such a powerful substance when I get it intravenously that my injured back and hips open up, all the tight muscles relax and all my joints limber up. I also spend a lot of time on the toilet as the NAD 'purifies' my digestive system and my problems with gluten etc. After a six-hour-long session I can stay up for 24 hours and then workout. After the Revestrol fiasco, I stopped trusting Dr. Sinclair because he uses the same technique that the Franken-food-Complex uses in taking RAT STUDIES and implies it's human studies. For example, with regard to snacking, they will say extrapolate from rat studies and state that "LAB STUDIES INDICATE THAT THE BEST METABOLIC HEALTH IS BY EATING EVERY 4 HOURS". He's nothing more than a huckster.

There are a few points you overlooked in this video. First, NAC was already in commerce prior to October 15, 1994 when DSHEA was enacted. This, in effect, allowed the continued marketing of any dietary ingredient that was already being sold prior to this date-including NAC. The issue with NAC is that it was already used as a drug prior to this date, but with a different route of administration compared to dietary supplements which must be administered orally. This is what has allowed the continued sale of NAC.
NMN, on the other hand, was not marketed prior to DSHEA. As a result, it’s considered a “new dietary ingredient.” In order for a new dietary ingredient to be marketed, it must go through the NDIN process without objections from the FDA. A company received no objections for NMN right before this transpired. Due to the lobbying from the pharmaceutical company, the FDA subsequently pulled the NDIN and stated that NMN is in fact a drug. This is why the industry is so irate-because the FDA reversed their decision.
With David Sinclair, in particular, he’s obviously lobbying for the pharmaceutical industry. Whether or not this is considered “nefarious” is up for debate. However, he’s fully aware of the IND preclusion and wants it to be sold as a drug in lieu of a dietary supplement which severely limits consumers’ ability to purchase it.

Thank you for tracking this situation!
I am trying to look at that from different point though.
Who is going to spend money on further clinical trials if there is no way to even return invested money.
Say, you are a company and want to invest in nmn studies, how will you make profit from that after the studies are done and showed great results?
These studies I suppose are not cheap and you need to add this cost to product you sell.
Also, you need to keep in mind that it's a risk and no one knows the results of those studies, they can fail.
Who is going to buy your NMN (that includes costs of studies) if there are plenty of cheaper options of the same product from companies who didn't conduct the studies and don't need to cover those spendings?
I totally agree that it's a shady move to remove nmn from the market, but thinking out of the box, how do you think should it work? You tried to collect 30k for rapamicin studies, and I don't know how it went, but I don't think there were tons of people donating for that.
Investors give money because they want return on their investments. You have savings, right? And you don't donate all your savings, but you put it on your account or use other financial instruments to get profit on them or at least outperform inflation, right?
Sorry if it sounds aggressive or offensive, english is not my primary language, I am just trying to bring up another point of view.
It also amazes me how people hate big corporations because all they care is profit, but when those same people have some money to save/invest they choose to invest in exact those big corporations because they provide good ROI for their investments.
Honestly, maybe it would be better if one company could sell nmn, they woud've got lots of money as investments and made lots of good clinical trials, and we'd know earlier if it works or not.

    • @anyariv
      @anyariv Рік тому

I agree with you, but there's another way. He can patent HIS NMN with strict quality control and assurance and perform his clinical trials on this NMN his lab created. Lots of companies do this with natural compounds and extracts. These companies don't petition FDA to remove the natural compounds from the supplement market because they had to pay for their clinical research so now they don't want competition. There are many supplements out there with patented versions of them that have been through rigorous studies and are produced under strict QC. Sinclair could have gone that route. But I think he has huge investors behind him who aren't willing to compromise and are basically sharks. He might be a businessman too, most successful people in their field have a business acumen. But he's not doing this alone and he's not the top and only authority on what happens to this new drug he's formulating through his clinical research.

Congratulations on welcoming your new family member! Thank you very much for this video! Seamlesly presented, concise, highly accurate. Most notable is that commanding, resonant voice! 👍👍👍 So perfect to draw listeners in and to keep their attention! What came to mind, when you said you didn't understand why DSl wants to distance himself from the issue (all the while instigating the subsequent complications of it)) is that scenario where, as soon as the child starts acting-up and misbehaving, the parent starts looking around (sheepishly), stepping back and feigning no relation to said child... Just until the child settles down, again. Also, DS is possibly proactively trying to avoid any potential backlash from irate consumers, who might associate the outcome of the situation with his tole in it. And said consumers might seek to retaliate against him, personally, instead of venting at the actual company. Protecting his own interests, as is the usual for the materialistic -minded. Yah, some people wants to "help us" ONLY inasmuch as it would benefit THEMSELVES!!👎 What could be clearer??

Ever the clever, Dr. Sinclair doesn't mention that NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) supplementation results in NMN production within cells (let alone that it is more effective by weight than NMN), or that NR is not banned over-the-counter, and will not be. He knows that the NMN ban will go fully into effect. but would rather have people not get the benefits of either rather than direct buyers to the company associated with Dr. Brenner.

I appreciate you discussing this issue. Once I realized he was the reason they pulled NMN off the market my opinion of him changed dramatically. That letter was a lot of double talk. He underestimates the intelligence of the average person!
NMN was doing just fine. There is nothing to be gained by doing clinical trials other than him and his company making money off of a patent for a prescription version of what's already working! Pure greed! Disgusting!
Sorry but he may have some good ideas but as far as what I think of him, I'm disgusted and think he's a greedy man who is now harming people who may have been benefiting from NMN. He absolutely knows that if something's going to become prescription it's going to become more expensive and it also means that people are going to have to pay to see a doctor.😊

Brad's take is honest as far as he knows, but he's mistaken about Sirtris. (Sinclair's company from the early 2000's) The sale of Sirtris to GSK had no effect whatsoever on the sale of resveratrol as a supplement. Sirtris never attempted to use resveratrol as a drug. They had completely different molecules.

At the end of the day it comes down to patents and dollars. I've just started taking NMN and other supplements, and was very frustrated to learn that it might be taken off the market.
I think most of the letter is "blocking his rear flank" so to speak. And I think that the comments regarding NAC are the most salient. And I think it should be remembered that Metro BioTech's letter also mentioned the NAC debacle. I don't think it should treated as coincidence that the topic appeared in each letter.
I would suspect that the closed door discussions between the legal teams would be regarding a royalty be paid to Metro Biotech for NMN supplement production in exchange for Metro BioTech's endorsement of enforcement discretion via the FDA. And per usual for patent royalty process, the amount would not be excessive and should not be a form of saying 'no' to the licensee. So in this scenario anything from a 20-40 might be possible. That might seem high, but given NMN's competitor, NR, usually sells for at least twice the unit cost in volume, it could be realistic. The one good thing about this scenario is that it could lead the a further reduction in NMN production costs over time. And this could lead to satisfaction of both parties and help a large number of people.
Thank you Dr. Brad for bring good information and sharing your analytical insights. That's worth a lot.
I have only one question - would you consider covering matrine some time?
