I used to work at Disney with a Dr Strange impersonator :)
That blue head is a silver surfer head painted blue. I'm happy to paint it chrome and pop in onto my custom surfer i made on the retro iceman body.
On the blue suit - it was a weird chapter in Dr Strange's history, his original comic was about to be cancelled and they tried to make him more "superhero-like" in the hopes it would lift sales figures. So he got a new blue costume (main difference being the mask and blue gloves instead of the yellow, otherwise it's very similar to his regular costume) and a secret identity ("Stephen Sanders", don't ask). This lasted only a very short time before he got the axe anyway. When he was later revived for Defenders and his second solo series, the blue costume and secret identity were swiftly written out, and became one of those oddball "hey remember that time..." moments. So it's a cute accessory, I doubt anyone REALLY wants a full blue suited figure (if they make another version of this mould they should instead do a "first appearance" version before he got the cloak of levitation and amulet), mostly it's just a reference and a novelty.

The black spots on the gloves are a good reference to Jack Kirby’s crackle energy effects from the comics.

@@OgGuak420 I saw another UA-camr review it the other day I think it was Danwho reviews and I believe he’s based out of UK and it seems to be released in Asia already.
On comics accuracy - the bootless legs are indeed accurate to the 70s (probably 60s as well but the art is a bit inconsistent), the pants are more often blue than black but I understand wanting to break up the colour palette - also there's always an ambiguity in comics whether something is actually intended to read as black with blue highlights or blue with black shadows. The moustache is actually a little more 80s than 70s I'd say - original recipe Dr Strange from the 60s and 70s still had an Errol Flynn/Clark Cable pencil moustache, but some time in the late 70s/early 80s it got a bit more Burt Reynolds (same thing happened to Tony Stark). Still it's only slight, this could easily pass for a classic Strange, it's way better than the handlebar moustache on the black suit Dr Strange!

Very comic accurate
I agree, the face sculpts have been rather good with most recent releases.
I am so happy I picked up two of these. Now that you got yours I will be able to either keep it in box or sell down the road. I am ok with the legs because this is exactly classic and a beautiful update to the toybiz version. I think the cape being attached is a callback to how annoying the toybiz cape actually is. 🙄 the headsculpt is so fantastic one has to assume after the artist was done they rewarded him with a vacation. He said he could not go because he had the retro ff to do and they told him "no worries, they got this" so he left, and obviously they did not have this...lol
Wish we had gotten a new/better cape but looks awesome!!
Mine came earlier this week and I'm beyond happy with him. Definitely a highlight on my Heroes shelf!
I love the black costume figure. It’s one of my favorite marvel legends and I think it’s head and cape would look better on the new release

I love this figure! Already one of my favorite Marvel Legends figures of all time! They nailed the classic look of Dr. Strange for an old school comic book fan like me.

I only really collect MCU and cartoon X-Men from the Marvel Legends line, but dang this figure looks great.
Doctor Strange does look "magical" for certain(pun intended). Kidding aside.....Hasbro do have their hits and misses.....but this one is a hit.....a home run. The Hasbro design team 💯% captured the classic essence of Doctor Strange. A "spellbound" addition to your collection (pun intended). Very glad for you and amazed he came out early there. . I'd preordered Doctor Strange on the Walmart app as soon as it went back in I believe it was October 2021. Hopefully they'll be shipping him out soon. Great "sleigh of hand" review, David.
The Wand of Watoomb! The hair looks great! The cloak of levitation collar is great. Doc’s always been a set of black leggings. No shoes nor boots. The Wand was part of two crossovers with Spider-man. The blue head was in the 70’s for a minute. He was cursed, I believe. He also had a great crossover with the Avengers with that look.
I don't have this figure, But I will get him because this classic Doctor Strange will be the best MARVEL LEGENDS comic Doctor Strange ever while he will look awesome kicking the Zemnu wave classic Dormammu's ass.

I'm really glad I bought this, I honestly only got it go with Dormammu (sometimes I do things backwards, ok?) But if it makes Dave this happy then I clearly did the right thing
I am jazzed about this and only hope this reflects the quality going forward and that we'll get other characters I've been waiting to see from Dr. Strange's world. Comic book Clea, Wong, Mordo, and the Ancient One with the Mindless Ones as BAF. Maybe throw in some other supernatural characters in to round things out like Dracula or Werewolf by Night and a demon like Mephisto or Nightmare.
Dave's right, it's not whining if you want quality when you're asked to pay the same amount for a retro figure that isn't given the same level of detail as main line figure. When they do figures like this Dr. Strange so well it makes it clear that they CAN do what you want they just DON'T.

Mine arrived yesterday and I agree, it's the best figure in forever. I can't believe my Toy Biz one will finally be retired, I thought he was going to be there until the heat death of the universe.
I'm definitely getting this 100%. Great to see the remake of the classic looks for comic book characters. Looking forward to having this guy pair with Captain America and ironman once they are available. Great review Dave I'm even more hyped for him now lol.
You know dave, you don't need all the retro fantastic four just because you want to keep the invisible invisible woman and pulse exclusive Johnny storm. You could (if you want) sell the normal release retro fantastic four, and put Johnny next to the retro spiderman display as they do cross paths very often.

I have this figure on the way, although I am a little disappointed in the way they glued the (reused) cape onto him, and even more so that he has the Fisher Price-style paint deco instead of the Alex Ross/80 Years aesthetic, which the Retro Spidey also featured. I think if this one had a removable (replaceable with soft goods, really is what I mean) cape and a paint deco that wouldn't make him look like the odd man out standing next to 80 Years Cap or the 2020 Retro Spider-Man, I think he'd be just about perfect.

Yes, correct... that Blue head doesn't match that body.
This is the 3rd time a figure/statue has been released with that blue head (either as an extra, or as the primary), and each time, its included with the wrong body.

I love how this looks, defo copping it when it comes out for me.
I need that Dr Strange and I might be alone on this one but I would have got that whole FF classic wave if it had a Jack Kirby BAF. Easily would have carried the Sue Storm figure sales. Nice grab on the Strange fig David, spot on for a 616 collection. Reminds me Michael Golden Dr Strange.

This figure cost the same as the Sue Storm figure? Not here in the U.S. Sue Storm was 22.99 on average, while the Strange figure is a Walmart exclusive at $26.49. The prices are all over the place, lately...(Gamestop selling retro Hercules at $22.99 while selling retro Spidey 2099 at $24.99; Target here selling Eternals wave at $27 a pop...)

I know there are a bunch of people that gripe about the hiked up price but considering that this guy is a solo release not tied to any wave and that he comes with more accessories than some actual deluxe figures, 100% worth it and I can't wait to get one, I only wish I had a release date for when these things come out.
@@LosMSR His arms already rotate though at the elbow and honestly it looks cleaner that way, the glued down cape is a bummer and the reuse argument is one I don't get because if the reuse works then what's the issue? Classic Dr. Strange has black leggings why make new legs that'll look simple regardless? Especially when the legs they're using are perfectly fine. Like the Retro Iceman and Retro Deadpool use the same body mold but you won't confuse the two despite that.

1:13 Its a good figure. It is. But it is NOT "exactly as it should be". If this was a new company just getting into the Marvel line I'd give a 90% "good job" thumbs up. But this isn't a new company. That emblem is supposed to be a lighter sky-blue....and gluing on the cloak is ridiculous. This isn't right and you dont need to fawn over this. Toybiz got it right, Marvel Universe got it right, Hasbro definitely did this deliberately wrong so they can get you to buy this one, and then the better, CORRECT version down the road. And by the way, for a figure that 's been at the top of your list, its odd you didnt know that his classic outfit doesnt have boots.
VERY fair points. I think I went a little crazy for him because I was coming off the FF retro wave which I thought was terrible. And yeah even though I haven’t read much Strange he was still massively high on my list since he’s such an iconic pillar of the Marvel universe. Thanks for watching!

You seem very impressed with the exact same kind of elbow joints we've been fighting against on female figures for years
These elbows may be single jointed but that’s only to accommodate the style of the clothes. They actually have a bicep rotation hidden inside the joint which is very neat and something the female figures never had.

To be fair these retro lines are commonly repaints. I’ll give hasbro a break. Because Walgreens exclusives are hard to get. Plus people wanted this classic color scheme. Plus we get both powered up due and powered down Johnny. If we need reuse to get these options, I’m down for it. But I’m a huge marvel legends fan who gives marvel legends the benefit of doubt when it comes to tough decisions to keep corporate happy so they continue to give us this marvel legends amazing body of work.
