Trust me it’s not the developers. A lot of developers that are actually doing their job would find new ways and exploits in their system and then provide a solution or fix. The developers probably sadly get told to do the minimal amount of work and not break protocol. It’s typical for EA to be super strict on how and what their employees do to keep their money generating.

There is a difference between hackers and cheaters. Hackers do create cheats from scratch and just plain cheater they have those created softs. They either bought them somewhere or they just downloaded it for free on some forum. Just like we saw on genburten screen. You will have dialog menu where u will just turn on/off ur cheats. Most apex players dumb in this regard(its ok its not their profession) and just use those cheats

I feel like somebody needs to explain to him that it was in an ALGS tournament (and the significance of that). He doesn't have any prior Apex info, so he's missing a lot of context.. I'd also like to hear his opinion on the "hook" aspect of it. I don't know anything about this shit, but someone mentioned that this "hook" (I forget the real name of it) is how they gained access to the match. Hence the name that popped up on Gens overlay "Tsm Halal Hook". I'm just really curious how he managed to gain access to the tournament, and inject hacks into specific players. Like I can understand the bots. They're in firing range, there is code for movement, etc (limited events, the prowlers) available somewhere I'm sure. But somehow using that server access to inject your hacks into their game (without a download) is actually some crazy shit.
They’re called webhooks and kinda like Thor said, there’s a couple of implications: 1. They could make calls to pre-existing webhooks with various calls getting accepted. This would take time to test and also likely have some limitations 2. They could possibly create their own webhooks, allowing more custom calls/commands to be made - way more scary I’m not a security expert but I am a software dev so webhooks is something I’m fairly familiar with. For your examples, the bots, movement, aim cheats, gifting packs to people, it’s likely the first of the points I made (if it is webhooks). More likely he targeted hal and gen’s PCs and installed the cheats without them knowing tbh - a scan from windows defender, like hal did, will never show that 😂
Well one of the ways a lot of cheaters inject code is through DLL injection (Dynamic Link Library) which allows you to inject code with cheats into a client or servers memory without having to go directly onto their PC.
Thor has theorized the 2 proplayer pcs are compromised, so might be 2 different things one server access for the bots and packs , and the second for the player hacks having them pre installed bc they got in the pro players pc before hand

I think the bot thing came from the Revenant Reborn Event. The bots act exactly the same as the bots from that event. That would be easier to do than just make new bots by using pre-existing ones.

Looking at this and testing the waters to see if something would happen in apex, I think the hacker is focused mainly on pros with Hal being the center of attention. I played apex several hours before and after the video released with no issues in pubs or ranked.

Possibilities include, admin level permissions to more than just the server. Imagine the data he might have access to on the player payment side. This dude would be able to watch your game and hear your audio while you play. Mute, kick, ban permissions. Punishment and forgiveness powers. You would never even know. He can spawn players of a similar name into the game and have them follow him. If it is executing script it's being used as a farming tool. It's really crazy to be able to control lobbies like that.

Your account is backed up and secure, the only thing that is compromised as of now; is matchmaking as servers could get shut down or mass impacted depending on if the cheater wanted to do this but it’s clear he doesn’t. You realise even if he does end up trying to steal everyone’s data, EA would put him in a jail for the rest of his life.
3:20 - you can have the same name via steam. If someone else in your lobby has the same name, one of you get (1) and one of you get (2). This has happened to me a few times as I my first name as my Steam name which is a pretty basic name.
What i don't understand right now, he said that the PCs themselves are possibly compromised (e.g. imperial hal and genburten his PC itself), which also explains why a cheat window was visible on genburten, but now he says that this is server-side and an attack on an enduser PC is a different level, but what's the difference now? I mean if the attacker has compromised the PCs of the mentioned players, why shouldn't he be able to do the same with other apex players machines? What am I getting wrong here?
I wish they would have talked about how most, if not all of those bot accounts were in pred rank. I know they touched on tailgating a bit but that would still mean at least one bot in the squad is pred. If he can easily change a bot's account to pred rank, can he do that to other players as well? Could he reverse it and potentially change a pred player's rank to rookie? Scary stuff.

It's not a traditional Hacker. Its either a current or former employee. I worked for a AAA studio on an MMO. 6 months after my contract lapsed my GM Account was still active and only got disabled when I called someone to let them know suggesting they do an audit. I found out later they discovered a number of accounts that needs to be disabled.

I feel like somebody needs to explain to him that it was in an ALGS tournament (and the significance of that). He doesn't have any prior Apex info, so he's missing a lot of context..
I'd also like to hear his opinion on the "hook" aspect of it. I don't know anything about this shit, but someone mentioned that this "hook" (I forget the real name of it) is how they gained access to the match. Hence the name that popped up on Gens overlay "Tsm Halal Hook".
I'm just really curious how he managed to gain access to the tournament, and inject hacks into specific players. Like I can understand the bots. They're in firing range, there is code for movement, etc (limited events, the prowlers) available somewhere I'm sure. But somehow using that server access to inject your hacks into their game (without a download) is actually some crazy shit.
it's basically how cheats work, they "hook" onto the game using any various methods
They’re called webhooks and kinda like Thor said, there’s a couple of implications:
1. They could make calls to pre-existing webhooks with various calls getting accepted. This would take time to test and also likely have some limitations
2. They could possibly create their own webhooks, allowing more custom calls/commands to be made - way more scary
I’m not a security expert but I am a software dev so webhooks is something I’m fairly familiar with.
For your examples, the bots, movement, aim cheats, gifting packs to people, it’s likely the first of the points I made (if it is webhooks). More likely he targeted hal and gen’s PCs and installed the cheats without them knowing tbh - a scan from windows defender, like hal did, will never show that 😂
Well one of the ways a lot of cheaters inject code is through DLL injection (Dynamic Link Library) which allows you to inject code with cheats into a client or servers memory without having to go directly onto their PC.
Thor has theorized the 2 proplayer pcs are compromised, so might be 2 different things one server access for the bots and packs , and the second for the player hacks having them pre installed bc they got in the pro players pc before hand
@@tomwebster5348 This situation almost reminds me of old school infected mods on Xbox 360 cods. You could not even have a Jtag Xbox, never downloaded mods before... But still get infected via somebody else, by being in a certain lobby. That was crazy back then imo, but this is like an evolved version of that. Obviously it stems from weak protection on apexs end, but still pretty impressive. I believe Hal and Gen truly didn't download anything. What would they have downloaded lol?
And how could this hacker fool them both? Not saying it's impossible, just very unlikely. The other impressive aspect was breaking into a sponsored tournament Lmfao.
I do wonder if the "apex pack" theory has any credibility to it. It's not technically a "download" but they did "accept" in a way the apex packs, sent from the hacker.

Started his own indie studio and streaming probably just to build fanbase for his future products, build bonds with community and also keep steady income. Indie game developing is sort of a rollercoaster in that regard. Btw his indie title is called Heartbound, it's in early access on steam and has overwhelmingly positive reviews.

The billion dollar company hired one dude to ban cheaters and refuses to implement a halfway decent anti cheat
It's easier and more effective to just sue the corporations selling hacks and contact the ISP's hosting their websites.
lmao if 2 people can do this to apex, then maybe they should use all that money they make from sold heirlooms on a updated system and better workers that are willing to actually try to fix it. but sadly atm the anti cheat is basically plugging holes on a boat.
it sucks because this is probably the best battle royale out for the competitive feeling and their just letting it go down the drain.
i dont think you understand how easy it is for hackers to do this kinda thing. hackers can get government files with ease they just dont because of the risk it takes to do it and the jail time\penalty

I think the bot thing came from the Revenant Reborn Event. The bots act exactly the same as the bots from that event. That would be easier to do than just make new bots by using pre-existing ones.

I saw a video today posted 2 weeks ago that talks about an Infrastructure compromise that gave someone developer account access. Not sure where it is but might be worth looking into
The lack of proper permission-ing that EA must have on their server requests are incredible.

Looking at this and testing the waters to see if something would happen in apex, I think the hacker is focused mainly on pros with Hal being the center of attention. I played apex several hours before and after the video released with no issues in pubs or ranked.

he’s right about 5:04 I have been going around many different vids about this and everyone is saying to uninstall and change passwords and take off payment methods until EA tweets it is under control. I didn’t uninstall the game but I’m not going to play it until then. I’m on console so I believe I’m very safe from any hacks but just to be safe imma just play other games.

It's very common to give ideas to hackers though, the problem here is that the vulnerabilities that developers aren't aware of, are being abused by hackers

How do we know things like R5 don’t aid in this kind of thing? Couldn’t a hacker practice on R5 since it’s the same engine and then do it in retail Apex?
Possibilities include, admin level permissions to more than just the server. Imagine the data he might have access to on the player payment side. This dude would be able to watch your game and hear your audio while you play. Mute, kick, ban permissions. Punishment and forgiveness powers. You would never even know. He can spawn players of a similar name into the game and have them follow him. If it is executing script it's being used as a farming tool. It's really crazy to be able to control lobbies like that.

There is another possibility here. Destroyer2009 may be running a bot net and has queued up 50 bots at the same time to get into the same match.
No lol. One the kills dont count, so it doesnt count as a player. Two, this is a ranked prediction lobby.. he wouldnt have multiple pred accounts to queue with.
Also all of the bots appear to be on the same team which is crazy and they all are going after the same two guys.
The kills do count but if you knock one it’s not immediately a kill unless you knock the whole squad…
He doesn’t need pred accounts. Dia is enough. And actually how ranked works atm he only needs one Dia per squad.

I uninstalled apex last night 😪 I’m in cyber & ain’t risking it until we get the research we need. Transparency will be key.
You’ll be good. Your account is backed up and secure, the only thing that is compromised as of now; is matchmaking as servers could get shut down or mass impacted depending on if the cheater wanted to do this but it’s clear he doesn’t. You realise even if he does end up trying to steal everyone’s data, EA would put him in a jail for the rest of his life.

3:20 - you can have the same name via steam. If someone else in your lobby has the same name, one of you get (1) and one of you get (2). This has happened to me a few times as I my first name as my Steam name which is a pretty basic name.
What i don't understand right now, he said that the PCs themselves are possibly compromised (e.g. imperial hal and genburten his PC itself), which also explains why a cheat window was visible on genburten, but now he says that this is server-side and an attack on an enduser PC is a different level, but what's the difference now? I mean if the attacker has compromised the PCs of the mentioned players, why shouldn't he be able to do the same with other apex players machines? What am I getting wrong here?

I wish they would have talked about how most, if not all of those bot accounts were in pred rank. I know they touched on tailgating a bit but that would still mean at least one bot in the squad is pred. If he can easily change a bot's account to pred rank, can he do that to other players as well? Could he reverse it and potentially change a pred player's rank to rookie? Scary stuff.

when this first happened they got to talk to destroyer about it and he said he has tons and tons of accounts that are queued up at the same time and that they just mark someone in the lobby and all the accounts run at that person hes not summoning bots into the game

It's not a traditional Hacker. Its either a current or former employee. I worked for a AAA studio on an MMO. 6 months after my contract lapsed my GM Account was still active and only got disabled when I called someone to let them know suggesting they do an audit. I found out later they discovered a number of accounts that needs to be disabled.
Bruh, what if the hacker's a laid off employee of Respawn that's got a grudge against them. I mean, it's fair to assume this guy is definitely a genius who can hack into intricate systems but it could also be someone whose had insider knowledge of Respawn's system.

Doubt so. He’s apparently Belarus based and is a security expert. Would not be surprised if he just does this for fun, he could have destroyed everything and cost respawn/ea millions by giving everyone apex packs. I don’t think he has a true malicious intent for majority of the player base.
Unlikely because he's been causing problems since before the recent layoffs happened I'm pretty sure. Also, if it was an ex-employee that has a grudge, it doesn't seem plausible they would just target a handful of players. They'd attack as much of the playerbase all at once to cause as much damage simultaneously.

Idk why the guy at the beginning is saying he's summoning bots while it's basically multi boxing, playing multiple accounts on the same machine, which existed in world of warcraft for years.
Actually I’m very happy with this stuff is happening now , this highlighting all the issues with hacking the game which is literally not playable at the moment , as the master right now I’m facing all the types of wired behaviours including aimbots , wallhackers , exploits abusers.

It's funny how he says new world had an issue with client side commands when WoW also did in Vanilla for a while as well and I'm not sure but I think he was working there at that time(?)
