Kratos' Warrior Mentality | (Spiritual Lessons We Learned in God of War 4)

- There are many spiritual lessons we can learn from Krato, from his Warrior Mentality.
Kratos is a Spartan God, a True Warrior and the Best Dad in video game history. His teachings to his son Atreus contained the wisdom and secret on becoming a True Warrior. I thought I would compile a video and categorise his words into different principles of the Warrior Mentality, and to add an inspiring quote from a Real Life Warrior in each of the Principle. *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Kratos before: loud and savage.
Kratos now: calm and wise.
AAAARRRIIIEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!
@@TakeshixStudios boy
Cant be calm and wise without first understanding what it is to be the exact opposite.
And now more powerful also
And I kinda dont like it if Im to be honest, imagine doomguy becoming a nurse for eldery, it simply isnt the theme
Anyone else notice that when Kratos lectures Boy about getting lost in his anger, he gets down on one knee, he makes himself eye-level with his son, almost like he doesn't want to talk down to him, like he knows he has no right to pull any holier than thou attitude, because he knows just how deep into anger a man can be lost
The mark of a great parent, being able to HUMBLY teach you child and not talk down just because they are younger and "not as smart" as you.
Yeah, we do the same when we're dealing with pediatrics, that way the patient trusts us and pays attention to the medical indications, which we also tell the parents. It is a form of respect and trust.
EXACTLY, I like that you caught that.
It's also a beautiful psychological trick. When we see someone talking down to us we generally act in defiance. Just goes to show. How wise and knowledgeable Kratos is. He gets on Atreus's level to relate and connect his point.
that is also a recommended way to talk to children. Our children are not stupid and they understand physical language very well. When we go to their height level we show respect and they are more willing to listen, specially when we take their feelings seriously.
"do not mistake my silence for lack of grief"
This line hits hard, especially in contrast to the first 3 games
Some people cry when they loose someone. Some just go numb and silent. As he says. Do not mistake my silence for lack of grief.
i've actually been using "keep your expectations low,and you'll never be dissapointed" ever since kratos said it and it truly works.
So have I
Spoken by the God of War, himself.
When I was 12 or 13, maybe 14, a family friend said to me, "Never underestimate the stupidity of your fellow man." He went on to explain that if I went through life assuming and acting as if everyone around me was totally incompetent and useless until they prove otherwise, I would go far. I think I have gone further on that advice than on any other.
Kratos echoes that exact same advice with different words, and applied to a broader scope. This is because it's true; it is sound advice.
I've been using "Don't be sorry, be better"
I played this game two years ago was absolutely astounded with what it is and recently just this year I had some thing that entirely fucked my psyche up and after that incident I have it tattooed in elder futhrak runes on my arm “Keep your expectations low and you will never be disappointed.”
"for someone so strong, you sure worry a lot"
"It serves me well.... And how i keep us alive"
Such a great character development
Ik right, that quote was fire
It comes from his Spartan training to always suspect an attack, and being this is his son a literal second chance to have a wife and child to love and protect again. Dont forget Kratos was tricked into murdering his wife and daughter. He's gonna love and protect and nurture the fuck out of Loki to ensure he DOES NOT repeat what Kratos did. Sorry I just absolutely love this character.

I guess because unlike with, let's just say, Iroh from Avatar we've seen Kratos story from beginning to end so we know exactly how we got there where as Iroh we only get snippets of his past and only see how he is now with Zuko. I guess with wisdom the imagination of how someone got there plays a big role in it. Kratos, IMO, is a tired man who is trying to make something good out of his unfortunate tortured life but shit keeps happening.

Can we just appreciate the fact that Kratos now gives genuinely amazing life advice
Hmm..
The only way to acquire wisdom is through countless failures and blunders. Kratos wouldn’t be this knowledgeable if not for his history as seen through the first 3 games. I love the way this game is made with the player in mind; the way we know Kratos’ history while Atreus doesn’t yet. We know why he is the way he is now.
Part of what makes something art is the ability to make something relatable or practical to the viewer. God of War's writing is honestly so incredible because Kratos starts out as a flawed character. He is powerful yes, but we see multiple times in the Norse era where he has issues connecting with Atreus (which makes his problems more relatable). It makes his advice and sayings all the more applicable because despite his status as a God, he acts very human-like.

Kratos is one of those people who no matter how powerful a being he may be faced with he'll never fall back, stop or hesitate, he'll keep going until either he's dead or his enemy
At this point even gow 2-3 kratos can destroy the universe if he wanted to and he's even more stronger in gow 4.
I think the reason he's much more composed and wiser is because after realising what his vengeance and hatred had caused, he must have promised himself to fight with his mind, heart and words in most cases first instead of his blade, brute strength and remorseless warrior instincts, something that has my deepest respect and sympathy for.
His revenge didn't bring back is wife and daughter, didn't ease his PTSD, killed his father and destroyed his home. Now he is alone.

14:35 That line became so much more than I could imagine. I embedded this line into my life. It was a wise decision.
“Expect the worst, assume nothing, and always anticipate an attack” might legitimately be the best thing kratos has to say. It’s just so easy to understand but very very very sound logic that is wildly applicable to anything outside of just combat.
In life you could just look at as, “expect the worse, assume nothing, and always expect that something will go wrong.” Same concept just slightly less hostile lol
When video game characters teach you more than real life people
Because real life people don't know how to communicate or express themselves that's why we have theater and movies and video games, etc.
Any time I think of the other God of War games I think of that scene from endgame where they go back in time and see the hulk stomping the car with professor hulk hiding his face in embarrassment
Kratos really mellowed after after GoW 3
The thing is, people keep saying that he's gotten EXTREMELY WEAKER. When that is not completely true, or even false. Maybe he did get a little weaker, considering the lack of Powerful opponents he faces during the time skip since the last GOW.
But I believe he didn't become weaker, but maybe even far more dangerous. Any man can dodge a swing of even the strongest hands, but when wielded by a man who knows his sword well, no army can compare.
And that is exactly how Kratos is now, the pure unsettling feeling when you face him due to his calm and collected demeanor makes you feel that nothing you do can even affect him mentally, much less physically. To let your opponents know that opposition is worthless, you have won without breaking a sweat. One of sun tzu's lessons.
Some may say he is stronger back then due to his astonishing physical feats, but i may even suggest he obliterates his opponents only due to his unwavering and indominable physical capabilities, with some strategic thinking here and there depending on his foes.
Now he merely needs to bring forth a small portion of his strength and dominate the battlefield through his thinking capabilites.
Now that is a God of War.

It's crazy how the previous God of War games were more all about our childish fantasies being this badass god fighting other gods and monsters and less about Kratos himself. Then 2018 and Ragnarok came along, it's still about Kratos fighting other gods and monsters but this time, it's balanced. 50% gameplay and 50% storytelling and we get to see more of Kratos' character from how he went from a beast consumed by vengeance to a calm and wise father, as if it's teaching the OG GoW fans and non fans alike how to prepare for adulthood and maturity.
