Canon M50 vs Lumix G7

- Decided to do a quick test of the Canon M50 vs the Lumix G7, testing the audio from the built in microphones, video image quality zoomed out and zoomed in and a low light indoor test. Both cameras set to "auto" with standard image profiles. They were both mounted side by side on a tripod bar. I also wanted to test the preamps on both and added a small mini shotgun microphone to the top of each. Tell me your thoughts below !

Mate I gotta say I wasn’t expecting anything with that thumbnail but this was an Amazing!! Video keep it up !!!
LOL! I love your audio tests. With your voice, you could talk through a tin can on a string and it would still sound freaking awesome. :) I think the Canon is much better in many ways, BUT, really, I think whatever camera you have, that's the one you should use and go make some stuff.
Ahh thank you Sir, I'll send you a can with a string attached from Texas to you, and we can chat, like Caveman skype lol.
600 for M50 (better DPAF)
350 for G7 (Better Dynamics, Better in Low Light)
Saving 250 for something as a add on... 1 pancake lens or prime lens.
Great Comparison Thought!!!
Actually G7 was around 540USD in India. And M50 was around 700USD. I bought M50 as it was more advanced at better price. G7 is a old one but canon for video is much better.
@@CookWithShub M50 in low light is pretty rubbish. Even with better lenses, its still pure rubbish. I don't need that iconic autofocus when the image itself is crap.
NOT FAIR on the audio as so few of us have your butterly smooth radio announcer voice sir. great video!!!!
Wow, thanks!
Stabilisation on the canon is 100% better
Canon m50 definitely has the better auto focus while shooting video. But the Panasonic has it beat in just about every other way.
Yes I agreed with you
I agree, but how is this possible with such a large difference in sensor size?
Great video man, pretty straightfoward no bs actual footage of both cameras on daily shooting scenarios great video!!
Thanks for watching
I'm torn between the two. My personal choice is m50 but my bro recommends the g7.
Seeing this comparo, there are times that i found the g7 had the edge esp in the start of the lowlight. It maintained the color of the stair rail or whatever that's called. But i do agree that the m50's DPAF is insane.
I am torn as well, but since I have both I can enjoy the strengths of each camera. The G7 is a fantastic camera, and I think it's image is sharp/detailed and very good dynamic range (when the autofocus is working and locked on) but if shooting in manual focus, the G7 win's. The M50 has fantastic DPAF as you mention and it's quick and precise, not really crazy about its stock color profile, but I just downloaded CineStyle color to it and it's a very flat profile but will allow me more control for Color Grading in Post. Honestly, either way you go, you will have a very good camera.
Great video and comparison. For me, G7, is very sharp and have more dinamic range.
Is it me or the G7 has better Dinamic range??
Wow nice reviews! I was expecting just slide picture review after i see the that thumbnail. Lol. U deserve get more subscribers and views! Cheers
Thanks for the kind words and for watching !
Right off the bat, I prefer the colors of the G7 but the sharpness & clarity of the M50. Sound on both was good with the external mic. Hmmm
My thoughts exactly, which is making it even harder to choose. Ha.
I own the M50 with the fixed Canon 22mm lens and it is a fantastic all-around combo; however the low light with G7 edges the Canon. I guess it really just comes down to your specific use case. If you're shooting video from a fairly fixed position and depth, go with the G7. If you need a more general purpose kit where you're wandering around shooting video then go with the M50 since the focus and image stabilization is superior. I actually wouldn't mind owning both. Happy filming and thanks for the review!
I agree 100%
nice, i like the m50 image stabilization and autofocus (better for vloggers)
but i like the g7's colors and no overheating (better for studios)
This is great content with extremely useful information. No drama no fanfare. Thanks for posting this great piece of invaluable content.
Thanks for watching
Watching the G7 constantly hunting for focus at the start kinda sold me on the M50.
The M50 has rock solid auto focus
Second hand M50's touchscreen stopped responding to touches today and I got a few errors/freezes. Looks like it's going back :)
@@Warlock_UK Did you managed to repair or to solve this problem?
I'm looking for a second hand m50 too....
@@iliawolfbein I got my money back from the second hand place I got it from and bought an m6 mark 2 instead. 4k autofocus is way better though it *is* pixel binned 4k which is damn sneaky of cannon.
I dont own any cameras but i plan to buy soon. I think the g7 and the color or video results is my preferred.
Thank you, Casey Kasem, for that wonderful comparison.
Lmao. Someone remembers him too ! lol
The g7 looked brighter and "popped" but the m50 has the better focus. I'm sure with a bit of stweaking the m50 can take pictures just as well as the g7.
This is an awesome video and really helped me make my decision. thank you!
Glad it helped
Your voice man haha! Awesome video
Thanks
Man, your voice is really something!
Thanks !
Lumix G7 seems to have a slight advantage in the color of the flower etc. it just has a little more sharpness to me indoors as well. BTW you have a beautiful home!!!!! forgot to say the Canon has a big price difference!!!!
Thank you, we love our house. Yes there is a big difference in price, considering that the Lumix will shoot 4K@30 and the M50 shoots 4K@24 with a HUGE crop factor and the great autofocus is not there in 4K.
Such a nice review, thank you!
Thank you for watching
Much prefer the G7, it has better dynamic range and low light. The m50 was very contrasty and just looks like an old camcorder
Immortal They where very close apart from skintones. The skin looks rougher on the canon, probably because of the increased contrast
Great video. I know it is a year old but in your opinion which one takes better 4K video when using manual focus? I am curious about the crop factor of both cameras in 4K. Thanks
Personally I would choose the G7 for it's image quality over the M50
Oh man, I can't decideeeed yet lol why is this so difficult!
If you need auto-focus get the M50, if you focus manually get the Lumix G7.
Awesome review!!
Thanks for watching
Thank you for this video really helped me made up my mind between the two.
Thanks for watching
So close, I don’t think that a person could go wrong with either one. I enjoy my G9, I probably should go learn and practice more with it. I have tried to do some hand held stuff with it, and after a while it gets heavy, or I am just a weakling. I though the Canon had more sharpness outside. The biggest problem with the Lumix is the contrast based focusing. I expected the Canon to beat the Lumix in low light, another weakness of the micro four thirds system. Which ever one someone chooses, they can’t go wrong.
Wow I actually thought the m50 won the low light test simply because of the superior image stabilization! But I guess the G7 was slightly brighter
Man, I can see I'm going to be binge watching all your videos. Image to me was better on the G7 but auto focus goes to the canon
Overall image quality does go to the Lumix G7 but with some tweaking in post, the M50 can be made to look just as good if not better, and yes, the M50 autofocus ROCKS.
Autofocus goes to the Canon, but the Panasonic has better dynamic range and detail, at least from these examples. Side note, even the audio from the G7 with external microphone sounded better and more robust (much better preamp). Nice side by side video examples for people to see for themselves which they might prefer.
I agree, just wish the Lumix G7 had better auto focus, but lately I have just been shooting manual focus with it. Thanks for your input as always
I agree too that the sound is fuller with the external mic, I love my G7, I use the BOYA BY-MM1 microphone which is much the same as the Movo VXR10 but near half the price.
So ..... the G70 is on a blackfridaydeal for 399€ with Kit,Card and Bag ... The M50 is for round 550 ... just as a Kit .... If my Focus is on Photography, should i get the G70 ?
Both are great cameras.
I just got a G7 for many reasons. The image quality is superior. M50 image looks cheap and more like a Hi-8 quality SD in HD. The G7 has clean HDMI and we professionals never use Auto-focus. Wireless or cable remote always gives a fast focus if you are one band man. People keep buying gears without learning them and being creative with what you have learned from their cameras. You can film with G7 and have a professional outcome for broadcasting commercials. But not with the M50 because of the image looks like an upconvert from an old SD camcorder to HD.
I respectfully agree and disagree. When you say “we professionals” never use auto focus, I know of many that mostly use manual focus when they have a focus puller 80% of the time and autofocus 20% of the time. This video is not about these cameras to make professional films/commercials etc as these are both Consumer cameras and most beginning UA-camrs or even casual family videographers want a simple camera with very good autofocus. If someone was wanting to make a professional film/commercial they wouldn’t be using these cameras as they would choose a camera with solid 4K without the rolling shutter and 10 bit or higher video for color grading. Regarding the M50 looking like sd unconverted to hd, I disagree there also as you stick on some good fast glass and it has a solid image quality.
The color science of Panasonic Lumix G7 is much better than Canon M50
no doubt i am going with Panasonic Lumix G7. Though this is older than M50. But still very good camera in 2020
I agree, the Lumix G7 is a rock solid camera, with my only complaint being it's auto focus which likes to wander where the M50 auto focus stays locked on.
@@WORTHITORNOT yeah, that's right. But this is not big deal from my perspective. Actually i am a street and landscape photographer. So it's not a big issue for me. Lumix G7 has brilliant color science which is very effective for a photographer.
@@tukhor666 : Ahh, yes for photography it rocks !
which one do you recommend for indoor video shooting (mainly for youtube videos) ? btw you voice is awesome
Both are great cameras but the indoor lower light edge goes to the Sony ZV-1
@@WORTHITORNOT Thanks for your inputs..unfortunately my budget wouldn't permit ZV-1. Probably i would go for m50 because of it's amazing autofocus.. one last question ..can you please tell your opinion between canon m50 and canon 200D Mark II(given my use case of indoor videography) ? Thanks again.
Bouth camperas vs Sony a6000 video please!
Best comparison ever
What should I buy to adapt more lenses to the M50, I'm interested in buying it but I've read it doesn't have so many lenses
You can get an adapter like this one that still retains autofocus : amzn.to/38eYBOB
@@WORTHITORNOT thanks!
a cg : Anytime
Thanks 😘 Canon is much sharpest and vivid , I love Canon 💚🇵🇰🌷
Which camera will be better recording indoor sports events ?? I’m stuck
I would say if you can afford it, the Sony ZV-1
M50 seems to have better innate image stabilization which is a big advantage every time you shoot video 📹😉!
Im completely torn between these two cameras. In one hand the g7 has great dynamic range, beautiful colors and amazing low light performance. But the image stabilization of the m50 is amazing for not having to spend extra money on stabilizers. Which would you recommend for beginner filmmakers? (Short films with cinematic looks so the autofocus isn’t such a problem cause it’s usually set up manually)
The M50 does not have great stabilization and both camera's need a gimbal for sure if you plan on moving shots. The G7 gives a better overall image especially when you put some good glass on it.
@@WORTHITORNOT Thank you!! I’m definitely investing in the g7. Any lens recommendations?
@@maferbriz : I like Olympus and Sigma lenses but really any good Prime fast MFT lens will really help.
@@WORTHITORNOT I found some MEIKE lenses for $75 to $99 on amazon and the reviews are spectacular for cinematic shots. Thanks for the feedback, I’m definitely subscribed.
G7
Rad video. The M50 is the winner. You were right -- the G7 likes to hunt....both offer 4k video. I was surprized that the onboard mics worked so well. M50 is the winner. Can you recommmend a really high end lens for the M50 in the $800 - $1000 range for vlogging on a open mountain range in Nevada?
The M50 is a solid camera for sure ! Here's a few for you: amzn.to/2SLNbf9, amzn.to/3fgEzGX,
@@WORTHITORNOT thank you so much!!!
Looks a little better M50, but still love my G7. Expert doesn't doubt gear but believe their skills
I love the M50's dual pixel auto-focus but prefer the image/color out of my G7
okay i made up my mind m50 is better gonna buy one.. thanks for your video
Prefer the look of the Lumix G7. More pleasing color and less harsh contrast to my eyes.
It is a great camera, just wish it's auto-focus was better
Haha I don't know if its because I'm a bit of a Canon fan, but I personally enjoy the M50 quality better. Have you had an opportunity to use these over a longer period of time? And kind of test out how they do after a fair bit of usage
I’ve had the M50 for 2 weeks so far I really like this camera, great autofocus, downloaded Cinestyle profile to it and gives a lot of flexibility in color grading in post. Small, light, great 1080. Hard not to like this camera
if the price is not a problem which camera of both do you recommend?
Tough call, Better image quality in 1080&4K on the Lumix G7 but the autofocus on the M50 is fantastic with good image quality at 1080.
Canon contrast is really messing up the video!
Lumix g7 is way better , however if u need external monitor on g7 it cant show the live view whilst recording.
Very true about the G7 with an external monitor.
Other than autofocus the G7 was a touch better- great voice by the way - m50 was crisp but the color was better on the G7
Totally agree
Thank you
You're welcome
wow i thought m50 is better which i am looking for it. but image is m50 better. color and low light g7 is way better if your test is real
If my test is real? Of course it’s real.
@@WORTHITORNOT thank you bro
thanks for the video, love the m-50, saludos.

Hi Sir i m a beginner suggest me a good camera for youtube
This one : amzn.to/37eWM52
Thank u very much sir i really didn't expect a reply ❤️thank you very much
M50 is best thanks
The M50 is a great camera
Slow motion?
The ZV-1 can do 1080@120fps, it also has 240 and up to 960fps in a short burst video.
I wanted them G7 its a nice cam but atfer watching this i might roll the canon M50 😁
The G7 has a very nice image quality, but it's auto-focus is ehh, the M50 has rock solid auto-focus and you can download cinestyle color profile which gives it a flat image for color grading if you're into that.
Canon M50 all the way
M new into it looking for a better dslr or mirrorless camera। can suggest me one?
Watch the video and choose the one YOU like
Can u suggest me a very good camera under 1000 dollars in terns of beautiful 4k vidio? Beutiful coulour?
Yes, this one: amzn.to/3oc9QOj
@@WORTHITORNOT tnx alot. How we make the colour beutiful in zv1? Pp or slog?
Does the G7 destroy the M50 in the dynamic range department? or is it just my poor sight?
Yes it does
You must do voiceovers if not your missing out on money
Canon wins
Showing canon cap to lumix and expecting fast autofocus🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha
G7 looks better
M50 has win
The Canon M50 is a solid camera with rock solid auto-focus !
the g7 is great, dont get me wrong. but that hunting. ewww
Yeah, that's its one major downfall is the autofocus, but if you shoot in manual focus, it's a hard camera to beat, especially when you stick a prime lens on it. Sometimes when I am shooting B-Roll footage I use an Olympus 25mm f 1.8 and it can get that crazy blurred background/depth of field that everyone wants in their footage.
@@WORTHITORNOT I wanna get a g85 but the af loll. no matter what camera I get ill probably use the kit lens
M50 kilt it; lumix was alil clearer in low light
Brilliant comparison review, was liking the m50 but still going for g7 as it has better 4k option #chefstravels
