I honestly can't decide 😵 I like the idea of have a robust quartz piece as a nice little grab n go, always set, sweeping hands. But you're 100% right about that dial, and the quality of the finishing really is way better on the Citizen Tsuyosa than the Bulova

No question, the Bulova wins hands down. Ahh.....that sweeping hand just does it for me. The shape, dial colour and bracelet integration is a near exact match to my 1978 Seiko quartz given to me for my 21st. Yes it is old like me and it still runs as it should. BTW Bulova is owned by Citizen as well as Arnold & Son, Frederique Constant, Alpina, Campanola and La Joux Perret.
Vintage Seiko Quarts are still ticking strong! I have a friend with a 1978 Quartz Diver from Seiko and it looks so good! Bulova is definitely appealing with that movement though

Hey man, great informative videos for a newer (guessing) and smaller watch channel! Personally would go for the looks which is why I have been concidering the Tsuyosa. Loved the metholocical scoring system of the Tsuyosa-video by the way! You have just gained another subscriber, keep up the good work 👍

Been looking forward to this video! I mentioned this before but since Citizen owns Bulova, I really hope they can make the best of of both worlds. A Citizen dial with the precisionist movement would be a dream come true! If they can somehow make solar power from their Eco-drive line sufficient enough to power a continuous sweep, they've got a winner on their hands I feel!
oh yeah absolutely! I'd buy that in a heartbeat. They have sort of something similar with their Super Titanium Line. I think that's citizen's response to Grand Seiko. +/- 5 Secs Per Year, Eco Drive, and the Dials are gorgeous. AND Titanium. But no sweeping hand. They're pricey too like 4k+. For that money you might as well buy a Grand Seiko
Nice review! Citizen/Bulova have been missing the boat for years with this movement. They could be smoking the competition if they’d concentrate on beauties like this instead of garish Invicta-like watches.
Ahh yes 😂 my incorrect pronunciation of Bulova is the bane of all my watch buddies existence for years now 🙏 I need help I 100% agree with you though you hit the nail on the head. That's exactly the reason most people I know have avoided this movement to begin with
@@WatchReviewRewind Sorry I was a jerk on the pronunciation. Edited comment and please accept my apologies. Love this watch. Hopefully it will come down a bit in price though. I’d probably be willing to pay $350 or so for it.
Sweeping quartz movements are becoming more popular, especially within the micro brand world! Just did a video on one from AliExpress that is a Rolex Explorer homage. It's absolutely insane what you can get for less than $100 nowadays
I think Bulova is making some great moves here . Look at the surveyor series it hits the marks as does this watch . I do not have a TV style watch currently so methinks I will add one real soon . I do think Bulova needs to fine tune the dial choices but I thinks it coming real soon . Great Video

Hmm a matte dial would have been interesting, especially textured. The dial looks a lot better in person imo. The brushing is so fine to the eye it's hardly there unless you're up close. The color is spectacular though, my favorite blue so far
The cyclops on the original Tsuyosa was pretty bad, but I agree I think Bulova nailed the cyclops! Jet star is very solid option! Pretty cool to see Bulova using the Precisionist in more dressier style watches
I do like the Bulova despite the cyclops. Good looking piece and the roman numerals round the edge are a nice touch. I have a Jetstar though which to me looks way better. Not too fussed about the Citizen.

I like the sweeping movement. I have a Bulova with this movement. I’m not sure how long the battery lasts, and when replacing what happens to the WR. Normally they are 50m…
My thoughts, I hope the Bulova has a sapphire crystal. Why? Because if it picks up some big scratches its shape will be difficult to replace. That Citizen looks great.

@@tjharris2170 It’s not small. Look at it next to the 40mm citizen. They look the same size. A square watch always wears bigger. Even if the size seems small
I absolutely love the Bulova! Although the Citizen's dial is more striking. I just bought a gold Bulova, (due to be delivered in the next day or so), which I fell in love with when seeing a random ad for it the other day! I adore the thick taper on the bracelet that the Bulova has. I am not a fan of the big lugs on the 4 corners of watches like the Citizen, wheras the Bulover's lugs are smaller in comparison. Though I do like the thicker presidential style bracelet of the citizen. However, overall, the Bulova WINS!
It's really such a tough call! They're both really great value for money, but I got to say the bulovas movement is amazing, especially if it's something that you're going to be wearing to the office Monday through Friday. And if you want my opinion, the bracelet thickness is really good on the Bulova, not really sure if a thicker presidential style bracelet would really suit the watch ⌚ I hope you enjoy your new watch!!
BulOva did the right thing bringing back a square shape they had in their own archives. There are too many micros coming out with square, Nautilus looking watches these days.
This Super Seville is a pretty cool watch, and it can be compared, as price point and style, to the popular auto PRX from Tissot. Bulova is owned by Citizen as well. So it's a win for Citizen regardless of the choice. Citizen is awesome and has great watches at any price point, they even own brands like Arnold and Son, a high horology brand. Not to mention that they provide movements and parts to a big part of the watch industry. But cannot compare the Spring Drive with a high frequency quartz movement. Spring Drive is a mechanical movement with a quartz oscilator, but no battery needed. This is a quartz movement operated by a battery. The quartz movement of GS is accurate to 10 seconds a year as well, just doesn't have a smooth sweep of the seconds hand. It's easier to be accurate with a quartz movement, as essentially it just translates the energy from the battery, when a mechanical movement has more elements through which it translates and controls the energy.
Thank you for this thoughtful and informative comparison. The dial on the citizen is straight up fire! Perhaps the best I've seen on any affordable integrated bracelet watch. The Bulova definitely has its merits, but the fluted bezel looks tacky to me. Like a cheap drug store watch that's trying too hard.
I agree 100% with that! Actually one of the first things i said to myself was about the fluted bezel. But it's just such an integral part of the Super Seville Design it had to be done lol
It's funny because a lot of people would go for citizen for that same exact reason! The Rolex Factor 😂 what's your opinion on homage watches? Yay or nay?
@@WatchReviewRewind I think it really depends on the person and their own individual situation. Like for me, for example when I caught the watch bug a few years ago, I wasn’t really making the amount of money I wanted to make so I had to settle for homage watches. But now that I got it, or at least in a much better position, I’d rather go for iconic watches with their own unique design. 100% wouldn't even think about it 😂 I've been saying that I would love to see the Tsuyosa dial in 38mm but on a regular non integrated case, 20mm leather strap, crown at 3 o'clock
I do love that Precisionist Movement, but I don't believe it has anything to do with the sweeping second hand. Could be wrong, but I believe that's possible with any quartz watch. Most just don't do it. It does eat up the battery. I have the Jet Star with this movement.
Yeah it seems kind of like a big jump, You can get a lot from other micro brands at this price point, but definitely not this kind of movement 😭 for me, the biggest factor would be the quality of the finishing for the price. Do you own the citizen?
Higher frequency in a crystal doesn't directly mean more precise timekeeping. It basically comes down to how stable an oscillation can you achieve, which doesn't automatically go with frequency. Crystals of much higher than 262 kHz are available and that doesn't mean they are more stable. It's just that Bulova decided to build around a 262kHz crystal, which also let them likely build a smoother sweep. They sourced a high grade crystal and temperature compensate. Seiko does it with a 32kHz temperature compensated crystal in their 9F series high accuracy quartz movements - that one does not sweep, making up for it with a really precise (nonwiggly deadbeat) second.
@無阻之流 My 9F62 Grand Seiko is less than 1 second off after about 9 months. My Super Seville is about two seconds off after 3 months, same use and storage conditions. So, both are performing better than specified, but my Grand Seiko is superior. Still, both are really amazing and the date needs adjustment every few months anyway. Aesthetically, the sweep of the Super Seville isnt as smooth as a Spring Drive but it is clearly smoother than a 36000 mechanical movements and the difference with a spring drive is really only apparent side by side. The 9F62 ticks second by second but the special mechanism makes the second hand very exact and precise in motion, visibly more stable than any other quartz movement I have seen, and of course is dead-on precise to every marker. So to sum up, it depends on what you care about, they are both excellent.
I thought about that as well actually! I would like instead the words Precisionist or something but 262khz is like forever Bulova's signature on these pieces
People are loving this watch just based on how good it looks superficially. But it has a WR of 0. ZERO water resistant. Says that its only WR to sweat basically. So wake up people, 1000 dollars for a watch thats NOT a daily, or even practical as a dress watch if you plan to wash your hands after a p p or poo.
@@WatchReviewRewind Im probably mad because I love the look and as soon as I saw it was thinking of getting it...till saw the horrible WR. And I know they could have made it at least 50M which is still bad for the price, but at least usable in real world.
Bulova super seville its a great looking watch! but will looks huge on any wrist with those 25mm lugs on the bracelet. and square watches wear always bigger too, so 34 or 36mm. case would be much better imo. that's what stops me to order one
For me it's a question of would I rather tolerate a small seconds or a cyclops. In all but the highest end watches, the cyclops lens is glued to the crystal. I'm waiting for someone to hit the Bulova with a heat gun and take that sucker off before I decide.
I disagree. The Citizen bears absolutely zero resemblance to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual --- not sure how you can credibly make that statement when none of the design elements (case configuration, bracelet, dial elements) share common aesthetics.
I would have loved to see an option without the fluted bezel as well! But still such an all-around great piece, pretty nice as a mon-fri option for the office
I am sure that you are pronouncing Bulova incorrectly .This is not how it was pronounced in their commercials from years ago. Aesthetics without accuracy are only important in women. You can overlook a drop dead gorgeous woman that is not very smart but who wants a genius that looks like Whoopi Goldberg?

Without the flutet edge, bulove would be no. 1. the flutes ruined it for me.
I prefer the Tsuyosa. Not close.
Citizen bought Bulova in 2008 and the precisionist movement is Citizen's way of saving Bulova from death
Why put 262 KHz on the dial? Whats the purpose of it? Its so tacky. It destroys what would otherwise be a spectacular dial. Its a deal breaker for me.
I thought about that as well actually! I would like instead the words Precisionist or something but 262khz is like forever Bulova's signature on these pieces
Bulova Wins
People are loving this watch just based on how good it looks superficially. But it has a WR of 0. ZERO water resistant. Says that its only WR to sweat basically. So wake up people, 1000 dollars for a watch thats NOT a daily, or even practical as a dress watch if you plan to wash your hands after a p p or poo.
Yeah the low water resistance is definitely one of the negatives for sure, I'm sure it's been a deal breaker for a lot of people
@@WatchReviewRewind Im probably mad because I love the look and as soon as I saw it was thinking of getting it...till saw the horrible WR. And I know they could have made it at least 50M which is still bad for the price, but at least usable in real world.
They need to get rid of that 263 khz logo its ugly as sin
Bulova super seville its a great looking watch! but will looks huge on any wrist with those 25mm lugs on the bracelet. and square watches wear always bigger too, so 34 or 36mm. case would be much better imo. that's what stops me to order one
They need to make the numbers less prominent. I know they're proud, but the largeness is slightly comical
For me it's a question of would I rather tolerate a small seconds or a cyclops. In all but the highest end watches, the cyclops lens is glued to the crystal. I'm waiting for someone to hit the Bulova with a heat gun and take that sucker off before I decide.
You can be the Pioneer for all of us 😆
For what it’s worth, I normally don’t like a cyclops but it works really well here. I have the green version
Bulova wins here with deeper history and the far more unique movement. Citizen makes great watches, but cheap bracelets and uninspiring movements.
I disagree. The Citizen bears absolutely zero resemblance to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual --- not sure how you can credibly make that statement when none of the design elements (case configuration, bracelet, dial elements) share common aesthetics.
Why Why Why Why Bulova didn't made it on the presidential bracelet?! 😟
But still, the only question here is : green or silver bulova?
I would have loved to see an option without the fluted bezel as well! But still such an all-around great piece, pretty nice as a mon-fri option for the office
Bull lava
My precisionist watches are about 4 seconds per year.
The T is silent
It's pronounced BUlova with the emphasis on the first syllable
Bull u va, not Bu lova.
You can't help mention the ugly Rolex look a like thing?
Hard choice. I will pick Both in the same time if I can.
30m WR is a huge letdown here, and a hard pass
Yeah, I think that bulova really dropped the ball with the water resistance. Even 50 m would have been good enough, but 30 Is really pushing the envelope
Nice watch but too bad he doesn’t know how to pronounce Bulova
if you are over 60 you get the bulova, if you are under 40 you get the citizen 😂
I prefer the Bulova. Not close.
