I don't much see the benefit of balanced inputs without a balanced output to headphones. Convenience, I guess.
Are the op amps soldered to the board or can you swap them out?
When you brought out that Billy Cobham record it looked familiar and a quick rummage found it on DVD Audio in a drawer. Will have a listen in glorious multichannel later.
Lastly, that amp is a thing of beauty. I'd buy it just for the casework.

You can swap out the op amps it's using sparkos op amps.
The Sparkos SS2590 op-amps are discrete - and that makes them kinda' like a non-opamp op-amp.
You may want to check out the Geshelli J2S - the JNOG2 Socketed - which can use any number of op-amps. With the SS2590 dual mono on the RCS single ended output. It elevates the J2 to even a higher level!

Near future I just want to upgrade the op amps in my cheap chifi headphone amp slash dac. Long term goals are Geshelli J2 and Archel 3 in all that fancy wood glory. A while ago I was planning to replace that chifi dac with a bottom line Geshelli J2 in the aluminum case with no options. Instead I got an SMSL SU-1 (and I like it a lot). I'm kind of glad now, seeing this woodcase under your good lighting, that I didn't get the aluminum case J2. I think the stack of Geshellis in wood is a setup worth saving up for. I don't even have good headphones lol (I do have Moondrop Katos IEMs which are sort of good headphones).

Now they just need to come out with a WiiM streamer in a cool looking wood case. I'm imagining in my head having a nice looking stack of Geshellis on my counter here with a little round black plastic hockey puck wired up sitting on top sideways because it's so light the cords pull it in different directions. Which is what I have going on right now minus the Geshellis.

Great job, Bob! Love Geshelli. I have 2 J2 myself. 1 ESS, 1 AKM. That amp look like it should have been made in the 70s. You can’t been them for value and quality. They truly punch above their weight.

I really want to try a J2 AKM. I only stream so this makes sense. I have a Schiit Modi 3E with a Node 2i and am happy. The Modi DAC made things clearer and more dynamic. How much better can it get?
So funny how in the past tone controles were a staple on even the cheapest equipment. Now it's a reason to buy/ hold on to an amp...

@@brochg ha! Haven't heard it. I have lots of Emotiva gear. You've probably already considered them, but I've had really great success with their stuff. They have a $600 integrated or inexpensive 2ch power amps. Plus they run deals/ demo stuff occasionally!
