With ya. Aesthetics matter. Nostalgia makes me really really want an early '80s Pontiac Fiero. Mechanically a piece of crap, but man did I love the way it looked. Same goes for audio gear. If the thing looks like garbage I'm not interested in buying it. You have to take the entire product into consideration.

I have a Rotel integrated. Sounds great but I agree, the display is trash!

I would add the Yamaha AS-1200/2200/3200. Nicer than the Technics IMHO.

So many videos for newcomers on UA-cam... how about a video for people who already own a good audio system for a few years, but are ready to take it to the next level? For example, I own a Technics SL-1200G with SME V tonearm and AT-ART9XI cartridge connected to an SPL Phonos preamp. It sounds really good, but sometimes I wonder if there are still significant upgrades to be made... or have I hit a point where there are only very little improvements to be made?

Every time I watch one of these all the stuff that comes with playing vinyl records and you have to buy this and clean this no wonder slipping a CD in the tray becomes so popular

I use what was recommended (and I believe included) with my benz micro stylus. It includes first using a small dry brush with short stiff bristles, gently swiping back to front a few times. Then Record Research Labs LP#9 cleaner, which has a small, soft brush included that sits in the liquid. I pull it out and give the stylus a super light brush on the tip, once on each side of the brush. That's it. I do that once at the start of each listening session. Additionally, I also use a soft brush on the record before playing the side.

That wasn't Van Halen 5150 that was 1984.

Stylus brush and gel pad in combination with record brush. Just wonder if there is some scientific method on how to clean the brushes.

great review...have you compared this TA-66 to the TA-26S?...I think the TA-26 uses 6N7s which you can replace with various brands of NOS tubes while this TA-66 uses the 6NP and you are pretty much stuck with this tube unless you modify the tube socket or use an adapter that will allow you to use 12AX7s...what a fun and stressful hobby...everything was fine until someone yelled NOS tubes !

In push pull the power tubes cancel out harmonics on each other,The best way to change the sound output from that amp is rolling different 12**7 tubes.generally speaking, if you use a taller plate driver tube,you'd normally get a fuller,richer and an extension on the highs.using a shorter plate tubes,you will get a more compressed sound..

I personally would never buy a amp that you have to bias the tubes Sticking a screw driver in a turned on amp isn’t my cup of tea My tube amp self biases itself and I am willing to pay more for it than trying to bias the amp itself Thank you MacIntosh!!!!!

That description of hearing a tube amp for the first time is interesting because thats exactly how I recall what I heard a tube amp in the late 90s - early 00s at the audio store. Not sure what the amp even was or what the speakers were but I think they were some kind of large towers with built in powered subwoofers / bass bins and the tube amp powered the mids and tweeter. But even with zero context of what a tube amplifier was supposed to sound like it was just super natural, lifelike and effortless and very different from the very nice solid state system at home. Oh, also, located in WI.

Yet another well timed video prompted rolling in some NOS TongSol 12AX7s and 12AU7s into a Xtonebox 60sp phono pre. The result was vastly improved microdynamics. Rolling in EML 20A's & 20B's for OEM AVVT 20B-SL's in a set of Wavelength Mercury monoblocks was quite interesting -> 20A's are more delicately - 20B's are more dynamic - The OEM AVVT's are more well rounded ~ Rolling definitely changes the flavor of things :).

Coming from the audio engineering world, I have an audio interface and a pair of studio monitors that I love! Would it be reasonable to plug in a turntable with RCA to 1/4 cables to my audio interface? Regarding turntables, I am thorn between the AT LP70, AT LP3 and the U Turn Orbit Plus. What are the downsides to automatic turntables?
