I've been living in Japan for the past 7 years but I live quite far from Tokyo. Please, go to Nippori fabric town and film a video there. Let me live vicariously though you! 😆 I hope you enjoy your time in Japan!
Wow, that looks like a heavenly area to visit! No wonder you're drawn to it like a moth to a flame, who wouldn't be! 😊 The skirt is wonderful, and that dress, OMG! 😍 So totally YOU! It's such a pleasure watching your face light up when you talk about it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful Japanese adventures, Janelle 🙏
So lovely to have Matt film all your Joy in Shimokiazawa! You look so happy being in your element of favorite stores and new ones. Thrilled for you and you doing your adventure before you got older. Never put off happiness, the moment is now Janelle 🥰
The last dress has a serious 50s vibe to it! The print, the pleats, the matching belt with lucite buckle... You could investigate the inside and see if it's retro or vintage... Either way, gorgeous find!
Toyo is my favorite! I also really recommend Chicago (think there’s two in shimokita and another one at Nishiki Market in Kyoto). I go to Chicago for secondhand yukata (summer kimono for festivals), kimono, haori (kimono overcoat-cardigan), and jinbei (cotton pajamas/loungewear for summer)
Janelle, the dress with the self fabric is beyond gorgeous and looks stunning on you. The vintage stores and the dreamy fabric shop make what we have on offer where I live in Aus hardly worth the trip.Seeing Japan through your eyes and Matt's camera skills is brilliant advertising for Tourism. Thank you. 🐾🥰
The dress you found is so good. The pleated skirt has great movement. The denim midi skirt is also a good wardrobe staple. I think I will make one for myself.
Janelle I can see that you are thoroughly enjoying your stay in Japan. Your face lights up every time you speak. I'm soo happy for you. Loved shopping with you, it really is lovely there. Thank you and Matt for sharing this journey with you. Xxx
That vintage floral fabric I actually found some old curtains at an estate sale here in the US with the exact same print, color, and everything! So now they are waiting in my fabric stash until I upcycle them! Not sure what yet but that dress gives me a little inspo!
Haya. Wow, looks like you had the best time looking around 😀The pieces you picked are are so dreamy & beautiful 🤩Thanku 'sew' much for taking us all along & for sharing. Ana. xx 🪡✂🧵🙂
I love what you've found and that last dress is a great find! I *think* we went there, unless there are other second hand districts, and we had a lovely time! The cafes around there were lovely too!
I’m really appreciating these videos, as I’m visiting Tokyo for the first time in 2 weeks. I’m obsessed with vintage and 2nd hand clothing as well as fabric shopping and sewing. Thanks so much for sharing ❤😊!
@@RoseryApparel lol! One of my long time rules, no men or kids shopping unless they're paying... Now I'm married and fortunately my husband likes to thrift shop too. But he doesn't have to look at everything like I do. I try to make shopping fun for him by hiding...😆😏🤪
Your videos are fantastic and your cameraman is the best. I’ve never been outside the USA. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Come to America and tour all fifty states. 😊
I've never thrifted in Japan, but it was nice watching your video~ The first shop, プチコション (puchikoshon) is probably the katakanago for petit cochon. Deciphering these katakana shop names is like a puzzle game :D
Love the floral dress shirt and t shirt they look really great on you and really good finds. Thank you for showing us around probably not somewhere I will get to go so really enjoying your videos and appreciate the time it takes to make.
Really enjoying Japan videos Janelle! You could make a video about anything Japan related and I'd watch it but I do love the fabric/shopping/sewing related little missions 😊
I recently watched a Tokyo thrift video from an other UA-cam..and it looked like it was almost only U.S clothes in all the stores..like crew necks with state names, jeans, those jackets with leather sleeves...But the stores you showed looked like a lot of Japanese stuff, I like it so much better.
Hi Janelle, I just found your channel, and you’ve inspired me to get back to sewing and crocheting. Actually, I live in Japan too. I’m in Yamanashi, which is only a 2-ish hour train ride from Tokyo. If you want to escape the city, I’d love to show you around Yamanashi sometime.
I'm so glad you were able to find such nice things! I didn't try vintage shopping when I was in Japan, mostly because I was a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to find sizes large enough as some of the non-thrift stores barely even go up large enough for me (I'm an XL in Muji pyjamas which is the largest size they have.) But I've heard that a lot of the vintage clothing in Japan is actually from the US, particularly the older stuff, so maybe they have more western sizes.
I absolutely love the retro atmosphere of these areas in Tokyo! Your finds are so pretty and so you. I would be very curious to discover the fabric shop.
Going shopping in Japan would be an absolute dream. My first UA-cam love was beauty so I have quite the collection of Fude. The fabric store would likely be the only place I would score anything but accessories because I'm quite... teapot shaped 😂 I'm a stunning teapot though! Still I order online from Miss Matatabi too often 🤭 I love Japanese fabric especially prints! Of course I also love the fabric store and the denim skirt reminds me i have a stunning vintage greenish wash denim that I should use! The dress you found is... perfection! When you are home I would love to see you recreate the style! I would absolutely wear that.
Its wonderful you are having such a lovely time. All i want to do is try to recreate that dress :🙂 I have made your Pansy dress with pleats instead of gathers and it looks amazing.
Loving the Japan trip and videos! Seems like you are having an amazing time and I’m so inspired to visit! Are you staying in Tokyo for your whole 6 months? X
Gorgeous finds! Burnt orange is my favourite colour as well, that's why I dye my hair that colour 😂 But I can imagine that being a too big of a commitment for you (would look great on you though! Just saying 😉) I miss Tokyo!
I loved the shopping trip! Every quaint shops for thrifting. You found some really nice items. Is it me, or are the prices higher in Tokyo? I am glad I am finding you for the past few weeks! All is well in my world now😊
the neighborhood looks amazing and so fun! When I went to Japan though I found most clothing was way too small for me, which is crazy bc I was very thin at the time (it was my honeymoon so I had lost weight for the wedding, lol) and even then, I'm usually a size S or M here in Chile. In some places the girls straight said to me, when entering the shop, that no item would fit me🤣 Hence I think I wouldn't find many vintage/used items there that would fit me...a shame since the things you show are so nice
Yeah my thoughts too - I'm an XL in Muji which is the largest size they have, and I probably wouldn't register as plus size in most western countries. So I didn't try thrifting as I didn't think I'd find anything; just concentrated on fabric. I did find a wonderful haori jacket for a great price.
OMG i have the same denim skirt u have but i got for only 18€ from Algeria )brand new )and it's made in Turkey ! u should wach some Hijaby's stores they always has these kind of skirts at no price!
You found some great pieces! I also love the pleated hat in the background (you referenced and linked it in your newsletter). I was hoping to find a sewing pattern for a hat like that, but no dice. Maybe a bucket hat pattern could be hacked?
Thanks so much for this video!! am heading to Tokyo in 2 weeks, and I can't wait :) Have you got any recommendations for fabric/lace/haberdashery shopping in Tokyo as well?
The one mentioned in this video is definitely worth checking out! Also Nippori fabric town in Tokyo (video all about this place coming soon!) and Nomura Tailor in Kyoto is incredible 😍

The dress at 1:26 - I’m so sad you didn’t get that one! It’s beautiful and you’d look lovely in it. ❤ Nice haul. Have to plan to visit Japan!
That dress fits you beautifully! 😍What a gem to find!! Love the fabric too!! 🥰

Such lovely finds!!🧡 Maybe you could make a dress yourself with a matching belt, i’d love to see that!😍 Lots of love from Holland😊
I hope you are thinking to recreate the last dress in a video 😍 it's so beautiful and it looks like you made it!😍
Love the floral dress shirt and t shirt they look really great on you and really good finds. Thank you for showing us around probably not somewhere I will get to go so really enjoying your videos and appreciate the time it takes to make.
Loved this video! So interesting to see all the vintage shops. And that final dress you bought 😍 stunning! 🧡

The skirt is fab!
I love following your escapades in Japan! I love this one especially the fabric store!
Loving your Japan content!! I've never been to Shimokitazawa, it's on the list now! Also excited to see a video about Nippori! 😍
I absolutely love the retro atmosphere of these areas in Tokyo! Your finds are so pretty and so you. I would be very curious to discover the fabric shop.
That dress is so gorgeous 😍 - Chrystal
And that last dress reminded me of that bedlinen with roses you use to OP shop back home.
Me too 😍 I think that’s why I love it so much

My jaw dropped with your bonus dress. It was meant you!
A lot of people have been saying this! 😄
Its wonderful you are having such a lovely time. All i want to do is try to recreate that dress :🙂 I have made your Pansy dress with pleats instead of gathers and it looks amazing.
Love hearing that! There’s definitely something special about pleats 😍
Love the dress!
Me too! Such a pretty floral print 😍
Beautiful clothes you found in Japan😍😍😍I loveee the dress and the denim skirt 🥰🥰
Everything you bought looks so good! I love that skirt 😍 and the shirt would look really cute tied over a dress too ☺️
The best vlog ever🥰
Aw thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed it x
The floral dress 😍
I'd be so scared to visit Japan because I'd empty my wallet quickly! They have anything and everything though lol
It’s a very dangerous place 😅
Dress looks beautiful on you.
That denim skirt is great. They wear that length in Japan
I loved the t-shirt in your favorite color. At $5.55 AUS, you might want to go back and get one in every color! I would!
It was from a thrift shop (hence the bargain price!), and the only one there 😊
Loving the Japan trip and videos! Seems like you are having an amazing time and I’m so inspired to visit! Are you staying in Tokyo for your whole 6 months? X
That dress was made for you!
Gorgeous finds! Burnt orange is my favourite colour as well, that's why I dye my hair that colour 😂 But I can imagine that being a too big of a commitment for you (would look great on you though! Just saying 😉) I miss Tokyo!
Don’t tempt me! 😍
I think you will have to make a pattern for that denim skirt ❤
I loved the shopping trip! Every quaint shops for thrifting. You found some really nice items. Is it me, or are the prices higher in Tokyo? I am glad I am finding you for the past few weeks! All is well in my world now😊
Thank you! Yeah Tokyo is quite expensive, about the same as Australia really. It’s a lot cheaper in the less busy areas of Japan though apparently 😊
You make me wanna go to japan 😍😍
The denim midi skirt is nearly identical to 1 I thrifted a while ago. I think the brand on mine is BugleBoy
the neighborhood looks amazing and so fun! Yes I would try pattern hacking a bucket hat if I was you! Just make the rim a little wider and pleat it 👍🏻
Nice sharing 😀 👍 👌

@@RoseryApparel Oh lovely! Will check them out :) have you got a physical shop in Tokyo yet? I've always wanted to get some sewing patterns from you!
I really love that cross body bag you're wearing. Can I please ask what brand it is?
The floral dress is you 😊
Items lovely but nothing beats the gorgeous jumper you're wearing! Are there any examples of more traditional clothing, not just kimono?
Aw thank you! I’m so proud of it 😊
Love this! 2 questions...how many times have you been to the fabric store and did you buy your sun hat in Japan?
Every time I’m in Tokyo so 3 times now and yes I bought the hat here too 😊
Thanks you
I like how your crossbody bag is Rosery Apparel terracotta colour 😊. May I ask where you bought it from? Thanks
Also that midi skirt is a great find.
Thanks! I got it from Uniqlo 😊
