Guilty of “how low can I go and still get my period” bull shit! Lol 😅but once I stopped playing that game, it took me 5 months to recover. And I got pregnant after two recovery periods! Miracles happen ❤

I had amenorrhea for 11 years. During those 11 years, I struggled with anorexia and periods of over exercising. For me, recovery was an extensive process of learning to fuel myself properly, love myself, appreciate my body, and learning to detach from placing so much importance on the way my body looked. I never cut out all exercise or ate 2500+ calories a day. After 6 months or so of gaining weight, maintaining the weight gain, eating about 2000 cal/day (eating to full satiety though AND not calorie tracking) and exercising lightly and in moderation, my period returned, just as I always believed it would. Keep the faith, recovery is worth it. ❤

@applesauceandhoney2407 well, after 5 periods, I lost it again. Trying to get it back, I love exercising, but may need to cut it out. My weight did not change since I got my period back till now. I'm eating 2500+ calories a dat, but with exercise, it's not coming back. 😭

For me, it took just over 6 weeks to get my period back (after 8mo without one) - it arrived yesterday! 🎉 I'm 41 and have had 2 kids.

@@Lmab-qs1kr yes I had to gain weight. Went from 15% body fat (underweight) to about 20% when my period returned (had extreme hunger and gained very easily and quickly without reaching the 2500+ calories). I've continued to have regular 28 day cycles ever since and am around 22% body fat now (7 months later - so weight gain really slowed after cycles returned).

@@Lmab-qs1kr at the time that I was underweight, I had been doing a lot of low intensity exercise (walking, pilates, etc). I am now strength training 3x/week and only walk for 30mins a day instead of the 10k+ steps/day that I used to always get.

Most recently, i started exercising again after not exercising since November! And, i started doing a version of the 12-3-30 treadmill and i think that shocked my body cause my period was a week late this month and I'm not stressed and i eat pretty well but it's my body's way of saying slow down lol I really wanted to stick to it every day and took 3 days off so far and finally got my period! and i'm torn whether to do pilates or to do my treadmill again. I'm in my 20s and never been on any medications and not stressed. So this missed period was odd. My periods always regular. I was never a cardio person in general but in the past stuck to light at home strength training exercising with weights( not super heavy) and that didn't effect my period. But, with the whole 12-3-30 or in my case 7-2.5-30 it's a sort of struggle to just walk that fast for 30 mins.

I heard of the ‘all-in’ approach a few years ago; and thought I would give it a try. Lo and behold, my period arrived the next month. However, when I reduced to a maintenance intake (2300kcals a day), my period ceased entirely. At the time, I wasn’t at all concerned. I knew it could take up to several months for my body to establish a regular cycle, so I decided to let it be. A year later, there were still no signs. I upped the calories again and got a period. Admittedly, this scared me (a bit). It was easier to believe the previous year was a coincidence, and not a consequence of eating more. Why, when I overload my body with food, I get my period the following month? I have not been in a calorie deficit for years (not since I was anorexic at ages 11-17); and eat regularly throughout the day. My weight is stable, averaging at 53kg in a 4lb range; and for my height 174cm, I’m not unhealthy. Obviously, being in a calorie surplus long term is unsustainable. Is there an alternative to restoring my cycle? I’m not an obsessive exerciser (ironically, I have M.E.), so aside from the floor exercises I do each morning, my lifestyle is sedentary. It has been a year since I last menstruated. Could this be related to being severely anorexic during adolescence (I was hospitalised 3 times) … might I have acquired damage to the hypothalamus from chronic malnutrition? I was late to reach the menarche (aged 17) and have only had handful of periods since. Sorry, if this sounds jumbled. My mind is all over the place.
