    I watched this video when I had pain from gum recession two years ago, and I eventually saw Dr. Choi and had two surgeries at his office. Both surgeries were successful and my symptoms had completely gone away two months post surgery. Eating feels joyful again!
    The two surgeries corresponded to two different locations, which are mirroring teeth on opposite sides, so they serve as good comparisons. My first surgery was Dr. Obando and the second one with Dr. Choi. The surgery with Dr. Choi led to significantly less bleeding, less complication, almost no pain, and no scarring at the harvest site. His technique and skills are much better than the average surgeon and I recommend people see him directly.
    My first surgery, although successful, caused a lot of bleeding and now I have a scarred bump on the roof of the mouth. Dr. Obando prescribed mouthwash which led to oral thrush, for which I had to go through additional treatment. This didn’t happen with my surgery with Dr. Choi - the mouthwash was not prescribed, and I didn’t have a scarred bump at the harvest side.
    Dr. Choi also said that the surgery is much more likely to succeed if I use my own tissue (which is fresh with blood supply) by harvesting from the roof of my mouth. However, Dr. Obando pushed for the expensive and convenient donor tissue option, which is a dry product without blood supply. So there’s a conflict of opinion between doctors and I exercised my own judgement. I declined the donor tissue with Dr. Obando out of the concern that the donor tissue is a piece of dried and pale foreign substance and I imagined my own tissue would be much better received and connected once grafted.
    Several months post surgery, my gum operated by Dr. Choi is also much thicker and full compared to the side done by Dr. Obando, potentially because Dr. Choi had an additional step of injection that promotes tissue generation. Moral of story: be careful choosing your surgeon. Even surgeons from the same office created very different outcomes in my case.

      Thanks, we need more patients to let others know their experience so they can make a good decision.

      How much time did it take for gum and roof of mouth to heal? How many days off from work? Please explain the healing process. Were you sedated for procedure IV or local anesthesia only?

      No days off from work for me. No sedation. I only operated 1 or 2 teeth per surgery. Can start eating with the operated side after 1 month

    Thank you for this! Never had gum issues. I was told in my dental office one day that my gums were receding (back of mouth). I had braces on for four years and soon after that a dentist noticed gum changes. I was petrified. I am in the lookout for a periodontist, but also scared. This video made me feel a little better.

    Thank you! This information helped tremendously. I had a graft done a month ago and am going in for another one in a few weeks. Now I have a much better sense of how the procedure was done. My periodontist explained it but honestly, I was so nervous I had a tough time absorbing anything he was saying.

    Thanks so much dr. Choi. It's really helpful to hear this information from a dentist!

    Thank you for this and the other gum graft informational videos, particularly the one on pain. I had this procedure done this week and wish I had seen this prior to my surgery. I’ve had the same dentist for 27 years and he didn’t offer much in the way of explanation, what to expect, potential complications and post operative pain prior to my gum graft. There were complications at the end, and my mouth filled with blood, my heart rate went sky high and I was dizzy and nauseous. There was a lack of communication and I did not know what was happening. It was scary, quite honestly. Today is day 2 post op. I did not realize the healing period would be so long. Will be looking for a different dentist if I need to have additional procedures.

    Very informative video. I have not heard anything about the coloring of the graft during the first weeks though, and also the stench. Is this something we can hear of in a future video?

    Thank you for this nice summary! However I am a little confused as to why one would ever need a free gingival graft when you have more esthetic and less painful approaches like connective tissue graft ??? Are there any specific indications where free gingival graft would be the only realistic option??

    • @northtexasdentalsurgery
      @northtexasdentalsurgery  2 роки тому +1

      yes good question. most likely free gingival graft is a good option for lower anterior teeth. there's less of a blood supply in the area which makes the area more fickle to having a successful connective tissue graft. also there are other complexities like vestibule depth, amount of keratinized tissue, etc. it sounds a little complicated but usually it can be more difficult to get a good prognosis on the mandibular anterior teeth

    @reneerobinson7181 Рік тому

    For the free gingival graft, the gums look a tire patch. Does that make your lower half of your face look puffy? Like will the gum tire patch be so big it pushes out against your mouth giving you a puffy face look?

    Also if bone loss has happened due to a dentist raising a tooth artificially or making a crown too long, should a root canal be done? In my situation a dentist heightened and widened the crown and made it too long and even had gold underneath. This created an infection as some places the crown banged against bone as not all points were the same.

    great video! if on my consent form it says “Connective tissue grafting with dermis on teeth #22,23,24,25,26,27” is that the second surgery you said? or the last one? I’m not sure what dermis is or how it effects a connective tissue grafting. Thank you!

      @@northtexasdentalsurgery When I watched the pinhole technique, collagen was inserted into the area where the gump receded. BUT it was never mentioned where the collagen came from ? Another part your body or man made ?

      I paid 6500€ for pinhole surgery and lost all my money and have a worse situation than before. I didn't find many comments on UA-cam maybe they get deleted. But i searched the Internet and found a thread where many people write they lost thousands of dollars or euros and for nothing. They all regret it. I only found two comments from ppl who said it has slightly improved but hundrets who regret it. I shouldn't have done it, it's one of the biggest regrets of my life and i cry everyday because it's so much worse than before. The dentist said it's a bad result but didn't really care. The surgery itself was very brutal and painful torture. I also found comments from professionals on the Internet who warn people, one doctor had it done on himself and ist warning people not to do it.
      My Front lower teeth got lose from the surgery and i found a comment from another person who wrote the same. Other ppl write they lost teeth or had nerve damage and the gums look like before.
      The pinhole dentist said my teeth might have been lose before but my main dentist doesn't believe it. They were strong. No matter how much you wish to find Help: Stay away from this surgery!

    I am a cleft palate patient and I’m not a good candidate for a bone graft and tooth implant for tooth #7, can gum graft bone done to blend in a 3 tooth bridge a bit better on the gum line to build up the area with tissue alternatively to bone?

    With donor tissue is there a chance of antibody resistance? Or your body rejecting the donor tissue? Like with pinhole?

    why would bone loss affect whether a connective tissue graft would work?

    • @northtexasdentalsurgery
      @northtexasdentalsurgery  3 роки тому +3

      good question. the bone is the blood supply for the transplanted tissue. if you have too much bone loss between your teeth (interproximal bone loss), the prognosis will be affected.

    Is it possible to have gum graft for top of the gum to cover dental implant

  • @arniedavis5784

    Have elected to have connective tissue graft in October, 2021 for 6mm gum recession of #13 top tooth. Periodontist felt that sedation was not needed. Are injections into the top palate painful? Have had root canals in the past. Tolerated the injections of the gum and tooth well. Have been told to expect post operative pain which can be addressed with analgesic medication. Told that I was not a candidate for pinhole procedure which has a high failure rate.

    I got some work done in Mexico and the gum specialist here said that gum grafting won’t help me but rather I need braces since there is spacing and recession mostly on my bottom front teeth. Any comments would be appreciated.
