I’m in the US. I had the pinhole procedure on both the top and bottom arch. I was completely disappointed. It didn’t completely fix my recession, maybe 75%. I ended up going to a 2nd periodontist who did a free gingival graft over the worst area, roots covered 100%. I realized the good old fashioned graft was the procedure I should have had in the first place. Pinhole seems like it’s more marketing than science, it was a huge mistake for me.
I’ll add, the 2nd perio I went to does not offer Pinhole. He thought about doing it at one point, but decided it just isn’t as good as traditional grafting.

I am in the process of redoing everything through grafting. It's difficult for the first two weeks but the result is reliable. Appreciate your clear assessment.
I paid 6500€ for pinhole surgery and lost all my money and have a worse situation than before. I lost more gum after a few weeks. I didn't find many comments on UA-cam maybe they get deleted. But i searched the Internet and found a thread where many people write they lost thousands of dollars or euros and for nothing. it, The surgery itself was very brutal and painful torture. I also found comments from professionals on the Internet who warn people, one doctor had it done on himself and ist warning people not to do it. My Front lower teeth got lose from the surgery and i found a comment from another person who wrote the same. I followed post-op instructions and had antibiotics but after i read all this comments from frustrated patients i think pinhole surgery is a scam.
I just came across a pinhole gum recession video, and what they do is they make an incision at the top of the teeth and pull the gums down. There were so many people who had left reviews saying that they had nerve damage and tooth loss and the worst still the gum disease came back, one really has to think hard about what they really want to put themselves through. This was a really honest opinion for Gurs and it's so helpful, you know what kind of dentist he is
Thanks for this post. I have a tooth where the gum has receded badly and I am actually have pain around the gum line and where the root is exposed. A sharp needle like pain that comes and goes. My gum around the area is very sore. I am seeing my dentist on Monday but I am worried that if I don't get this fixed I will lose the tooth. I have already lost 3 teeth and had to pay for (with a loan from my Dad) 3 dental implants and it is not cheap, let me tell you. Plus you have to wait month to heal before you get the actual porcelain tooth placed and its a painful procedure. I really don't want to go through that again, so if a gum flap type surgery is best over this pinhole technique then I want to hear about it.
I had a traditional gum graft done yesterday.have to say I'm very impressed by results already .I'm very swollen today with no pain . incredible technique .but still have alot more work to get done
I have been researching the pinhole technique. I appreciate your honesty. I think I will pass on looking into this, plus it seems very expensive and I do not have insurance. I have had 2 gum grafts. I pray I do not need another one. I started oil pulling 3 weeks ago, started an oral probiotic, brushing with a dry brush then with toothpaste, rinsing with salt water twice a day. Doing lots of things that I hope will help my recession, sensitivity & root exposure. I am going to see if you have videos on any of these areas. Thank you
I'm wondering if the NDA is to deter those going on the pinhole course from telling other dentists how it's done so that the guy who invented it can keep the money rolling in, and not because it's a dodgy treatment he's trying to hide.
GURS ,YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT CRITICALLY THINKING AND STILL IT WILL BE A BLUNT SURGERY AFTERAL, IM DIONG THIS TECHNIQUE PAST 6 YEAR AND IT SEEMS NOT INCICATED ALL CASES AND STILL PREFER CTG IE PATIENT OWN TISSUE WITH EXCELLANT BLIOOD SUPPLY
You are incorrect, dr n’émets did a vide explaining the technique. Make a pinhole in the gum tissue , loosen the gum , pull it lower covering the tooth than introduce a gel into the pinhole to fill the gap and secure the gum in its new location. Obviously one has to have the tools and the gel. That is what the Chinese dentist is marketing.
I'm going tu undergo this surgery early April in France. The surgeon told me it's an indication in my case because I have moderate recession but on several teeth.
I've read an article in the journal of california dental association and it seems like pinhole isn't groundbreaking, but seems okay compared to the other techniques.
I agree the NDA signing sounds shady. And the fact that they promote this surgery as a lunch break surgery is not very professional imo. Especially when you read the post op recommendations saying you can't brush or eat normal foods for over one month...

Hi Dr Gurs can u please give ur opinion on Lanap treatment. I have seen few reviews and just like Pinhole surgery, I can only see reviews saying how brilliant it is.
This reminds me a lot of Invisalign where a) where in many cases it's a much better approach than the traditional way and b) they're training dentists to do it not just specialists. So it's really kind of a threat and taking away business from the specialists so they are reluctant and defensive about it. It's kinda too bad because it's a good tool to have in the box, and really the traditionalist gum surgeons (or orthodontists with Invisalign) are going to probably be best at using it, but only if they adopt it. Meanwhile they might be telling people they need the old way, when really the new way would be better in many cases. Plus there's the issue of cost, where I assume the pinhole is cheaper as well so there's less $ in it for the traditionalists.
