Wasn’t too sure about out it at first. 3 time seeing it and honestly really like it now, looks bold and aggressive. Can easily tell it’ll grab the most attention. I’ll take two thank you very much
I was just thinking about this earlier and this is my unedited post (that I deleted) from Jalopnik earlier: They had the formula just right with the E38. It didn’t need a “revolutionary” redesign. The Porsche approach to continuously refining the 911 is why it’s such an icon today. When I compare what this is to what it could’ve been, I get a little sad.* The lithe, purposeful, focused, and gentlemanly elegant proportions are gone. 😔 I know we humanize vehicles and I’m definitely guilty of it. It’s like the 7 went from an athletic, confident, and respectable professional to a bloated, Hollyweird caricature of itself (that has Botox on auto-delivery and a plastic surgeon that does house calls). I know they are in bed with Rolls-Royce but that doesn’t mean they need to mimic those proportions. While it works for Rolls, it just doesn’t work with their signature kidney grille. The excuse of complying with crash standards just doesn’t fly, either. The latest MX-5 Miata is almost identical in proportions to the original and it’s still on sale today. I usually buy CPO off-lease cars but - just like the Bangle-era 7 Series - you couldn’t GIVE me one of these to drive; I’d sell it immediately. I’d be embarrassed to be seen in something this ungainly. * Check out this design study on Carscoops: www.carscoops.com/2019/08/bmw-7-series-what-if-the-next-gen-was-inspired-by-the-e38/
You know what, getting 2 decades-old cars and restoring it, when you want a nice big black sedan whilst being a car enthusiast instead of buying the giant (both in terms of size and price) doesn't seem like an idea too unrealistic to me. Sure maintanence is a pain and you really would have to suffer from the lack of practical features the new cars have, but if you're a car enthusiast you'll probably earn more satisfaction from an e38 due to its looks, N/A engine feel and lightweight advantaged compared to the boat of now.
20:57 - this desgin is definitely not missing on the i7. the normal 7-series and i7 look the same, you can get on both of them the M-Sportpackage as the model you've choosen, this styling isn’t 760i specific.
Prelift 7 series had back clearlights like that too. I know, because I have prelift E38 from 1996, cosmic-schwartz with manual gearbox and shadow-line option (no chromes).
I don't care how it drives or how high tech it has...this Is one UGLY MOLDED CHUNCK OF METAL ..the double headlights works perfectly well on the GENESIS G80...
As a past 5 Series owner, and a buyer that fits squarely into the demographic buyer for this car, I think it is the UGLIEST BMW ever made. You wouldn't catch me dead in one.
The E38 is one of the best looking luxury sedans ever made. It has a long bonnet, a long trunk, it's low and wide, with minimal fender surface above the wheel arch and clear, strong lines, all this making it elegant and sporty at the same time, just like a boxer wearing a Savile Row suit. You have to be smoking a lot of stuff that grows on tree bark to compare it with something that looks like a toaster.
I think it's gorgeous! Looks like a Rolls-Royce in many ways. I think with a white colored exterior, the M package, black grilles, and tint, it will look stunning. You won't find other cars on the road with such a design, and unlike the S/E/C class, it won't be confused for another car.
These new BMWs have lost the timeless elegance and simplicity of the classic designs. The old timers were subtle in their presence, the new ones are mostly about showing the oversized grill as a symbol of power.
E38 had black bottom part (bumpers and side skirts) till 2001, only last model year (2001) had it in body colour, which refreshes design quite a bit in my opinion Also i am quite sure that g11 generation 7er facelift and prefacelift has same roof line and window trim etc, only changes are in bumper, grill, some trim and headlights, not proportions them self’s.
This is not correct, 2001 E38 models also came stock with unpainted (black) sideskirts and black lower bumpers. Painted parts was a specific SA (SonderAustattung).
I like that weird little upper running light headlight, looks unique, I think it just needs to disappear somehow when the car is off, like be body colored when off, you could probably do this if it was just painted body color, then when on, the light shines through the painted lens, and when off, it blends into the body. Wonder if anyone will be crazy enough to mod it like that.
14:53 you do realize the 2019 model is just a facelift right ? They didn't change the roofline / body at all. only the bumpers & lights. Even the doors are literally the same
I lost all respect for this guy. Is he blind or what? The best 7-series since E38 is the 2016 model by far, design-wise. The 2023 model is a Quasimodo.
The only thing that can make it look better is if they lowered the taillights to connect more with the lines in the back, and also if they placed the license plate between the taillights.

Loved the E38, and you helped me understand - why. Thanks for that...
Wasn’t too sure about out it at first. 3 time seeing it and honestly really like it now, looks bold and aggressive. Can easily tell it’ll grab the most attention. I’ll take two thank you very much
I was just thinking about this earlier and this is my unedited post (that I deleted) from Jalopnik earlier:
They had the formula just right with the E38. 😔
I know we humanize vehicles and I’m definitely guilty of it.

Totally agree!
And if you really want practicality too you can just have a relatively cheap volvo estate/wagon or something as a second car

Not wrong! 👍
I have 3 bmw and the e38 is one of the cars in my collection everything you said in this video i 150% agree the design on the e38 is timeless
I think that’s a good design decision from BMW. I think split headlights look nice. Although I think it looks better on the new X7.
I can't see it sorry, for me it looks like they are trying to copy the honqi s9
You sure u are not a blind man 👨🏽🦯?
20:57 - this desgin is definitely not missing on the i7. the normal 7-series and i7 look the same, you can get on both of them the M-Sportpackage as the model you've choosen, this styling isn’t 760i specific.
And The Winner Is........................................................................ E38!!! No Questions Asked!!
Prelift 7 series had back clearlights like that too. I know, because I have prelift E38 from 1996, cosmic-schwartz with manual gearbox and shadow-line option (no chromes).
That's an ugly piece of crap.
Totally agree
agree, it’s too vertical
U ain't lying
Imo the new 7 series is too tall for limousine.
yeah it looks like a compact suv
nah that way it looks more imposing which a 7 series should be, it has a rolls royce vibe to it
I don't care how it drives or how high tech it has...this Is one UGLY MOLDED CHUNCK OF METAL ..the double headlights works perfectly well on the GENESIS G80...
Loved my e38, because it's timeless!
It's funny to me how the grill makes me really like the headlights.
Been a BMW enthusiast all my life, now it's seems like the products are going downhill. These cars have no soul
E38 immediately followed by G11 pre-lci
Everything else: perfect
Front end: 🗿
As a past 5 Series owner, and a buyer that fits squarely into the demographic buyer for this car, I think it is the UGLIEST BMW ever made. You wouldn't catch me dead in one.
Long live the E38, the last proper 7 series, before they turned Korean.
The pre facelift E38 is the prettiest car in this video
The E38 is one of the best looking luxury sedans ever made. It has a long bonnet, a long trunk, it's low and wide, with minimal fender surface above the wheel arch and clear, strong lines, all this making it elegant and sporty at the same time, just like a boxer wearing a Savile Row suit. You have to be smoking a lot of stuff that grows on tree bark to compare it with something that looks like a toaster.
Designer: Boss, how ugly would you like it?
Boss: Yes
#1 = E38 = Timeless Design (2001 facelifted)
#2 = G12 = with an Executive Lounge (2022 facelifted)
#3 = E32 = with an Executive Lounge (1994 facelifted)
Thats the Reason why Jason Statham changed to an Audi s8 after the first Transporter
I think it's gorgeous! Looks like a Rolls-Royce in many ways. I think with a white colored exterior, the M package, black grilles, and tint, it will look stunning. You won't find other cars on the road with such a design, and unlike the S/E/C class, it won't be confused for another car.
The E38 is an icon, this just is 😆.
These new BMWs have lost the timeless elegance and simplicity of the classic designs. The old timers were subtle in their presence, the new ones are mostly about showing the oversized grill as a symbol of power.
I had a great E38 and upgraded to a F01. Great car, but I now have a E38 again.. enough said. ;)
Luxury sedans don't need "bold" and "brave" designs. They need "classical" designs.
and the also the 2001 model also had the last one had yellow turn signals vs the amber ones
E38 had black bottom part (bumpers and side skirts) till 2001, only last model year (2001) had it in body colour, which refreshes design quite a bit in my opinion
Also i am quite sure that g11 generation 7er facelift and prefacelift has same roof line and window trim etc, only changes are in bumper, grill, some trim and headlights, not proportions them self’s.
This is not correct, 2001 E38 models also came stock with unpainted (black) sideskirts and black lower bumpers. Painted parts was a specific SA (SonderAustattung).
@@TheMuston Its an option (341-Stossfaenger Komplett In Wagenfarbe), but every 2001 model has it.
I own a pre facelift 1996 model and its all the same color. I belive its an option as well
I think the new 7 series would look pretty nice if you removed the upper lights
Nah i cant defend this take. The new 7 series aint it.
beautiful car this time BMW nailed it
I like that weird little upper running light headlight, looks unique, I think it just needs to disappear somehow when the car is off, like be body colored when off, you could probably do this if it was just painted body color, then when on, the light shines through the painted lens, and when off, it blends into the body. Wonder if anyone will be crazy enough to mod it like that.
E38 all day any day.
Best sedan ever designed.
💯💯
I can't wait to see the (front) facelift version.. 😁 In this one it should have combined the headlights together...
14:53 you do realize the 2019 model is just a facelift right ? They didn't change the roofline / body at all. only the bumpers & lights. Even the doors are literally the same
I like the Bangles now in hindsight
I like the 2023 much better if it was lowered like E38. Nothing can replace the original Transporter car.
-Where do you want the headlights, high or low?
-Yes
g70 not bad looking, but e38 in my opinion best looking sedan ever.
It has a front end of a Citroen C4 Cactus which came out 8 years ago😅
This is the most fun I had watching Bembli's video's than any other
I lost all respect for this guy. Is he blind or what? The best 7-series since E38 is the 2016 model by far, design-wise. The 2023 model is a Quasimodo.
Would u please tell us ur opinion about BMW CS vintage concept, thanx.
great review. I had deja vu and just remembered: my dad's 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass S 4 door had the same "creeping up the hood" grill!
The only thing that can make it look better is if they lowered the taillights to connect more with the lines in the back, and also if they placed the license plate between the taillights.
Sorry but I cannot agree with this. I am no expert by any means, but I tend to lately disageee with your opinions more and more (which was not the case in the past). I am starting to think that you make these videos for clickbait or something, so that people watch such a controversial statement. Anyways, I really enjoyed your content, but I don’t really understand it anymore. So I will unsbuscribe, thank you for the entertainment.
front end is an absolute disaster
unfortunately I was expecting a line equal to the bmw future luxury concept, a true masterpiece
I agree with you th e38 most beatiful 7 serie , it is a car for the powerfull and its aggressive viwe🥰🥰🥰
People don't realize it yet, but the design of this vehicle is going to be legendary. You are seeing the future right here. The fusion of classic and futuristic elements is going to define the next 20 years.
U must be smoking crack
G11 2016 M760li is just by far the best looking and well designed 7 ever. Especially with its sportier twist and monstrous V12 and XDrive combination. The car carries a confidence unmatched by any others, very fitting for the car and the engine it carries.
Nope, It's the E38 which IS the best 7 series since the E38 itself! Period
You missed the Facelift 2nd generation which looked drastically difference and was a happy medium between e38 and PFL e65
Would love to see you give it an improved front, i feel like the design BMW chose has lot more potential
Me, my friends, and even my grandfather who was born 1935 think these grills look stupid lol
This new model looks like a tank on wheels.
The rear lights just gradually warp around the silver piece with every generation I love it
Is bmw paying you to like this car? 😂
I love that BMW is rethinking how to design cars, EVs give us so many new possibilites for new shapes and graphics. The proportions are a problem, we can see all the blobs *cof EQS cof* and short front ends that you point to us on other videos. I'm a BMW fan, so I am biased, but I love how the i7/X7 turned out. But I rather have the i7 front end than the M760e, the i7 is much cleaner, I'm not a fan of the black cladding around the grille trying to hide the second headlights.
Love the 2023 BMW and your kitties are so sweet!
From the side it’s more like Rolls Royce Ghost
He was definitely held at gunpoint when he made this video lol.
The front graphics look amazing as well 😆
YES YES YES!!! I have tried to explain how this is a gorgeous design in my new video that I’m editing
The side profile of the new 7 series is great, but just not a big fan of the front and rear, felt like they could have spend more time on the design, would love to see how you would improve it tho
When a beaver eats a fridge you get this design.
