BMW never fails to amaze. In this new model, they've managed to come up with an impressive list of additional systems and features that will cease to function shortly after they're out of warranty.
I currently drive a Mercedes; this is more attractive and has better infotainment/ controls and function (back sear headroom) than the new S class which is all gloss /glass. Salute BMW for getting it right.
Concerning that a $100K+ BMW 7 Series has a rear window screen you cannot see through and does not have an electronic rear view mirror, or an adjustable height seat belt for the front passenger.
Correct, I saw it an auto show a couple months back and it really stands out. And the inside is crazy, even my wife who doesn't give a shit about cars was impressed and noticed it was very expensive looking and feeling. Cars are bought in person, not online.
Have to disagree. I know looks are subjective but I park next to a black one everyday and it’s just an attractive design to me. It’s not classy or elegant. It looks cheap to me.
I’m not sold on the front design. I like the look of the headlights, and even though I’m not a big fan of divorced lights, I think it’s necessary for turn signals when LED lights are on - a lot of the time the headlights are brighter than the turn signal and you can’t see if someone is signaling to turn. That said, if I was loaded, I’d get one because… why not? Sounds like BMW actually made a comfortable road trip car that doesn’t have a pelvis shattering ride.
Yeah the accent lights still totally suck ass *STILL* I agree...it's official. Need to be wrap around and maybe tear drop as absolutely *ZERO* flair go on here. Still as Flagship Sedan remain wholly impressed by the German offerings with only Cadillac still winning once excluding all of the marketing gimmickry.
The non M version BMW has always had one of the most comfortable ride found anywhere. It's the M and the ridiculous 21+ inch tires with aspect ratio of less than 45 that has created the pelvis shattering rides...not just for BMW but all vehicles. Tires and suspension system have more to do with comfortable ride than the combination of everything else....and low profile tires will always have stiff and pelvis shattering rides irrespective of the vehicle.
I actually like the design, especially in a darker color. My wife's dark red one is going to be delivered later this week. We're excited to finally get it after weeks of waiting.
Amazing that they did not include a digital rear view mirror. It’s available on many lesser cars when it’s not really needed. It’s essential on this one for safety and drivability.
You know people are hung up on styling but if you gave them the car for a couple days. Theyd realize if a car is truly excellent behind the wheel. The styling youll get over it quick.
BMW needs to resurrect Paul Bracq and re-apply 1980s 5 and 7 series design to modern tech. Upright and clean lines, round headlights, the hammerhead front end.
About split front light design : correct me if i'm wrong. Curious that german designers move to Korea in the past apply this style and now the best flagship korean design is the G90 with much cleaner art-deco streamline look.

Its less precise than usual handling character is also a kowtow to the Chinese market, where the softest ride is king.
That front end is fugly, deal breaker, out of consideration. First Lexus went nuts with grills a few years back , now BMW with some of its models ?? Never bought a vehicle, quite a few in my 73 years, including BMW and Jaguar, that my eyes didn't fall in love with first. A lot of good high end design talent left Germany and England's marquis brands for Genesis, it's starting to show...........
The front end looks weird, imo. I do like split-light designs, even on the Juke which sort of kicked off the modern trend, but it doesn't always work. Especially when a car is going for classy over cute. I think what they should have done is delete the top headlights, flattened off the top of the kidney bean grill so the black housing for the lights and grill has 1 continuous line across the top, and rake the hood more from the cowl to the front making the front end slightly lower in appearance. I think that would make it look reminiscent of the i8 which is appropriate for their flagship.
The 7 series and S Class use to be inspirational cars. But there's nothing in this car that appeals to me, at all. Screens everywhere, no buttons, no manual vent controls, plastic everywhere that will scratch very easily. And iDrive8 sucks. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. When we were complaining all BMW front ends have looked the same for the past 20 years, we didn’t mean make it look like BMW had a baby with a Hyundai. Its busy and just has bad aesthetics and proportions to me. Step in the wrong direction completely for me. The key advantage to LED arrays over previous halogen setups, besides brightness, was that instantaneous illumination. It is faster and was safer. It alerted drivers behind quicker, “Hey, I’m braking you should too” or “Hey, my hazards are on be cautious around me”. This fade in-and-out just gives me halogen rear turn signal vibes and I’m not a huge fan. BMW isn’t the only automaker doing this so this is kinda directed at all automakers going in this direction. Finally, I will never understand why automakers, who make cars globally, that need to make rear turn signals amber say in the EU jurisdiction, go ahead and swap them out for red signals in the US market. The German brands are the biggest offenders of this and BMW is no different in this model.
I have a '20 Alpina B7 now. Wondering what to do next since there is not a new 7 series Alpina. What do you know about this new plug-in hybrid from them? Sounds interesting... My last car was a Panamera 4S e-hybrid plug-in and it was nice to have the power as well as great efficiency. If BMW did the same, that would be a nice option, and if they used the Alpina brand for that, it would be even better!
Yess yes yes Alex is the ONLY one those addresses the rear amber turn signals I think if bmw and these other high end manufacturers can offer all these options and won’t offer US customers the option of having either red and or amber rear turns finals is a shame
Pay all that money for that front end design???? Alex failed to report the same idiots who designed the last versions of the Avalon and Prius, have so obviously been hired by BMW. As for no rear digital camera, how the hell are you supposed to see the rear when you are driving. I'm afraid people get carried away by marketing and image. Plus, their latest trend of not having height adjustable seat belts!!! BMW have made some wonderful cars over the years: 328 in the 30's, M1, 3.0 SI in the 70's, and 5 series in the 80's etc. But to me over the last 10 years, they have ballsed thing up completely with their designs.

WRONG it was going to cost $900 because there was no way to change the bulb. That is what finally did it for me. My next car was a slightly used '86 Honda CRX Si that I got from the Pacific Northwest Honda Parts Manager... it was quick, reliable, got great MPG's, handled great, and was super simple. This is a 130k disposable appliance that uses gimmicks to sell. BMW can't get electric water pumps to last more than 65k miles. Many of these doo-dads will be broken by year 6 or 7. If you lease, enjoy! If you buy, good luck!
Hm, going back in order I didn't call the Corolla Cross, Impreza, CX-90, Outlander, Crosstrek, 330, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, Niro, G90, etc etc the best. Something can be solid, something can be the best value, and we will point out "best values" "best reliability numbers" etc, but very very rarely will I ever say "the best" without a qualifier.

I wonder if this radically functional BMW 7 Series will start a trend that eventually trickles down to sedans under $100,000.🤔 If it does, it might just save the sedan body style which has been decimated by the machinations of frustrated coupe designers. 🤨
I test drive an i7 at CES earlier this year. Great vehicle!
"I'll take cars I'll never buy used for $200 Alex."
Rain again?
Design: It is furious how fast it is growing on me...
I dare someone to say this looks cheap inside. Because clearly it doesn’t look cheap whatsoever
Looks kinda cheap with that colored light bar behind the trapezoidal plastic dash pieces under the faux carbon fiber type top plastics.
This looks cheap inside.
I third this, looks major gimmicky inside
@@sethgunn8256 but that doesn’t mean a thing. This things 100+k. You’d expect state of the art in literally everything
These look much better in real life. Just saw one at my dealer.
Red turn signals are better than all these California drivers who are allergic to using one 😂
The best money pit in the world.
This is a 130k disposable appliance that uses gimmicks to sell. BMW can't get electric water pumps to last more than 65k miles. Many of these doo-dads will be broken by year 6 or 7. If you lease, enjoy! If you buy, good luck!
Who cares about reliability at $100k?
Oh yeah NO ONE 😂
BMW Ranks Third In Consumer Reports’ Most Reliable New Cars Study. Look it up. Just behind Toyota and Lexus.
@@naveenthemachine time is worth nothing to you? Interesting.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow lol, sure.
@@bassandtrebleclef Stay willfully ignorant then. This is easily googled.
In Europe, you can get the BMW with 6 cylinders and X-drive.
In the US too.
This generation is very reminiscent of the alfa romeo of old from the exterior.
Alex calls any new car he reviews the best
The rs3 is a ton of fun. The 7 series is world class
The civic is a world class compact sedan etc etc
Because it’s rightfully justified
Hm, going back in order I didn't call the Corolla Cross, Impreza, CX-90, Outlander, Crosstrek, 330, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, Niro, G90, etc etc the best. Something can be solid, something can be the best value, and we will point out "best values" "best reliability numbers" etc, but very very rarely will I ever say "the best" without a qualifier.
*Best does not mean they're beautiful*
