- Guitar cover of "The Pot" by TOOL with on-screen tabs - learned by ear and multiple recent live performances.
Hope you enjoy the video! Please post your suggestions! :)
God damn, this one has been requested like mad... I got out of my way and bought a FreqOut pedal to make this cover accurate. I didn't put the feedback hits in the video as pedals, though, because I'm using it a lot.

U should do Right in two. Keep up the good work man.
I'm dying for that one
Yes!!
Yes, please!
Yeah dude! I absolutely love that song. But a real treat would be to see Rosetta Stoned.
@@jasonderos637 Then you're in for a treat, because I already did Rosetta Stoned ;)
Something not mentioned in this video is that to control your feedback you actually have to collect all the tool albums in order and summon adam himself
Third eye, someday
Look up @opiateofthemasses his covers are pretty great. Almost as good as me ;)
please third eye
*that one dude from the back of the crowd* “ThIrD EyE!!!?!??”
4:23 is top tier in riffs of tool, in my opinion
oh absolutely
That's the intro bass line but played in the guitar
Same!
4:23 to 4:41 this riff is just such a piece of art by Adam......can't get enough of it.....and yes, amazing cover mate!
That's Justin's bass intro played on the guitar
Very reminiscent of Soundgarden early 90's..... Filthy riffs
@@victorfernandes5191that's what I was going to say. It's such a beautiful riff.
@@victorfernandes5191 except for the hammer-on onto the the A string that makes it sooooo nasty
You’re playing your own tabs wrong 😂
This is the best Digitech Freqout commercial ever! Digitech should thank you for it.
Max, I can't even begin to give you the credit you deserve for such attention to detail in presenting these videos as a learning tool. If I had always had music presented to me in this active, clear but detailed visual format, I think I might be twice the guitarist I am now. Not to mentioned killer sound and clean, relaxed execution.
Thank you, Frank! Glad my videos are working out for you, that’s what it’s all about 🤘🏼
@@MaxNiessl I agree with OP. Thank you so much.
Didn't see anything other than delay pedal and tuning but I assume some distortion and drop D tuning. Is that right?
@@trafficking2596 yup
Great cover!!! Did you use a distortion pedal?
There are only two things getting me through this pandemic... one of them is watching Max demystify Tool songs. Thank you for all of these efforts. You make the world a better place.
Awesome to hear that, Todd! Cheers 🤘
Finally found someone who teaches things properly. this channel is gold!
Thank you! 👍🏼
His shirt alludes to Maynard squeezing his cat for the recording of Mantra, right?
sigh...
"overthinking, over-analyzing, separates the body from mind" 🙏🏼
Jokes aside, fantastic job! Definitely going to learn this now.
Haha thanks! I'll wear it for Schism, don't worry ;)
@@MaxNiessl Ooooooooooweeeee!
The first Tool-Song I listened to.. always gives me chills. Awesome job and once again absolutely nailed the tone! (:
Thank you as always, bud! :)
nice work! I love jamming 'the pot' on guitar with my mates, & we got it pretty down! but im pleased you've put this up so i can tidy up the part at around 4:50 which I was definitely playing incorrectly haha
Awesome! Have fun jamming 🤘
Legend, thanks for doing my request. Can’t wait to get stuck into this.
Very welcome, have fun bud!
Idk if I'm just really high but best guitar cover + tab I've ever seen on here
Max is making it better for people wanting to learn Tool songs with screens tabs props to you!
Nice work mate sounds good!!! I remember I played this song many many years ago for local music collective at a charity gig. I had to figure it out aswel back then took me bloody ages! Such a fun song to play. I wish this kinda video was around then from memory I played it abit different to your version . Heres a link to it if ya get time have a watch 👍
Wow I had no idea this song was so simple, amazing
That closing riff. Ye gods, man, you're a total machine. I'd not realized how complex that riff is. Yeah, a machine. Do ya have, like, normal human emotions and inclinations and such?
Thanks a trillion for your great work.
the last riff isnt that hard tbh. the part around 4:45 was much trickier for me
Incredible as always. Keep pumping out Tool!!
The Pot is top tier Les Paul and metallic Marshall sounds. Incredibly powerful guitar by Adam Jones, and you did a great job with it. The tuning makes a big difference in playability. Nice job!
Max, my biggest dream is to see you playing Dispostion with its subtle character, almost 5 minutes of pure bliss... Bless you and spiral out
This guy really slays all of tool songs
What kind of a-hole click thumbs down on a super high quality, FREE video teaching you how to play a Tool song. I mean seriously, what expectation did Max fail to meet to get a thumbs down? People are weird. Thanks for an awesome video Max!
Thanks Jarrod! I appreciate it, glad to help 🤘
This is the best The Pot cover I’ve ever heard and the cleanest tab I’ve ever seen. Greatest work.
This is so well done on so many levels. Thank you for your time and considerate care in presenting this piece.
Thanks, Shelly 🙏🏼
Beautiful!! The part at the end always gets me, can't wait to learn it properly. Nicely done!!
Thanks Ron, have fun!
At 3:50 I always thought I was crazy that the part went higher and lower.
Haha you're perfectly sane, bud! I noticed that today as well, though :)
SAME DUDE. this makes so much more sense
Damn bro you are now my favorite person to get Tool tabs from. Please keep it up I get super excited to break out my guitar and jam along with you whenever you release a new video!
That's awesome, Kaleb! Glad you like my tabs and are having fun playing to my videos 🤘
@@MaxNiessl I am for real! Keep rocking my guy 🤘🤘🤘
YESS!!! Finally! I've been waiting for this since November of last year :D Good job mate.
Haha awesome! And sorry :D
Cooking pasta.
Its nearly done.
Max pops a new vid up.
Pasta ends up overdone by 6 minutes.
Lifes still good.
I guess you had to watch out for at least two pots then ;)
@@MaxNiessl ayyyyy!!!!!
Maaaaan, awesome video. I don't even play along to most of those but just really enjoy seeing them. I know you out so much effort into them and it really pays off.
Thank you, Benjamin! :)
Ah, freqout pedal, that's the way to make that sound. Looked everywhere for that tip. Very neat, clean and precise cover, I like your videos very much. And that shirt is so cool. Thanks!
Thank you, Luis! Adam is obviously using real feedback, I just can't get that from a modeling amp :)
eyyyy I see the fibbonaci spiral tattoo. Fuckin looks sick my guy. Keep up the great work.
Any simple explanation to how you control the feedback so well? Is it strictly the pedal? This is extremely well done!!! I think you nailed how he plays it for sure
Thank you! It depends on what kind of note you're feeding into the pedal. It's really a matter of feel :)
@@MaxNiessl ok, cool. thanks for the reply. i'm going to look into it!
Alright, that's it. I'm finally going to learn it. Thanks yet again for the inspiration, Max! Fantastic cover of a classic chune. ☮🖤
just gotta love the pinch harmonic there in the end
I Think i love the way you use the pick
I'm pretty sure Adam Jones himself endorses your work! Great cover as usual! 🤘
I admit that i was waiting for this song. And this little details you always include in your covers. Nice job!
Thank you! :)
Awesome job as always!
P.S. Love that Strange Planet t-shirt
_I N D I G O_
Amazing! This song have some similiarities with Vicarious
Much love and respect for making these videos man. I've been getting back into guitar playing in my late 20's now through learning TOOL songs. And you have helped fuel my passion for it seeing how you learned every intricacy of Adam Jones playing and really took time to make these videos flawless. Blows my mind how listening to this stuff back in the day it didn't really interest me in playing it because I thought it was pretty simple and was into learning thrash/death metal, but I think this takes more effort and creativity honestly. Really beautiful band and excellent videos, keep it up!
Dude. You're right in the pocket. The hardest part of this song is the syncopation. You nailed. it!! Thank you.
Been trying to learn this song this week and lo and behold you drop a video on it, much appreciated!
Haha awesome! Have fun then 🤘
FINALLY! :-D Thanks a lot, Max!
And once again you helped me out a lot. Been playing it wrong for 2 years. Amazing cover, as always. Keep it up, man. :)
Thank you, will do! :)
4:09 i have a crush with that part.
Very cool video edition i just love it ¡
Thank you, Diana!
Thank you for this. All of the tabs I found were wrong I'm glad I found you
I gotchu! :)
That Freqout pedal sounds great! 🤘
It really does! 🤘
You've got to pick one up Cameron! Really unique pedal and a ton of fun!
Hi Max
What setting are you using on the Freqout pedal please?
I have one but cannot seem to get the right sound.
Thanks
This is incredibly high quality. You're really amazing.
Bless this quality...
Dude! The Freqout sounds awesome! I'm using an old Tom'sLine gain/amp sim pedal for feedback but does nothing like the Freqout. Checked out Amazon and there's one for $688...but it comes w/ picks bahahaha! Totally justifiable! Thanks for another f'n great tab and cover. Fixed my problem in the "reprise" part w/ the addition of a single note. Adam strikes again!
The FreqOut is really cool. Totally worth the buck :)
@@MaxNiessl You need an endorsement deal. You just sold a pedal haha. Spent a much more modest $240 CAD on Reverb. Still pricey but Digitech is excellent. Oh I look forward to this one!
Where would you even put it in your pedal chain?
I appreciate the attention to detail with the transcription by showing the delay settings, etc. Thank you. Great work!
Amazing performance and breakdown as usual!
Thanks, bud!
In my DJ Khaled voice “ another one!”, awesome job as always. Would love to see no quarter sometime in the future.
Haha thanks Nick! We'll see about that one, really wanna learn this song sometime :)
Flawless! I had a quick question... how many times do you play a song thru to be like, alright i got it! Time to record!
Thanks! Actually not that much. 2-3 times before recording. I learn most of it while making mistakes in the recording, though :D
Lateralus
You seem like the most stoic guy in the world, but I could tell you really were getting into this one 😂, otherworldly track
Excellent cover, bro! Gave me the chills!
Thanks, Stanley!
@@MaxNiessl No. Thank YOU.
Thank You. Killer job
Yes! Finally! Great work man love the videos 👍
Thank you! :)
Dang bro you nailed it.
Thanks for posting. I will now go plug my guitar in and try to make it happen. Cheers
Max, you nailed it, again! Thank you very much for this! Hope you’re enjoying the FreqOut. Cheers
Definitely am enjoying it! Thank you :)
Brilliant video. The tab I’d found online for tool wasn’t very accurate but your work is excellent. Managed to learn this song in two sessions. Well done.
Awesome, Craig! Glad to hear that 🤘🏼
Epic cover man! Thank you so much! Also that pinch harmonic at the end is phenomenal. Great job 👏
Thank you so much, man!!
That is awesome Max. Playing - tone - tab and effects. I start to learn sections and stop to watch you play and enjoy a killer Tool song. Much props. 🔥🎸🤘
Really great sound. Love your content! Keep em coming!
This Epiphone looks and sounds great! So beautiful top!
Your video's are awesome dude, keep it up. I really appreciate them!
Thank you, Blake! Glad to hear that 🤘
My man never disappoints!
🤘
Noice. Love your tone.
Man, that was nuts..
Thank you, Leo! :)
I've been able to learn to play TOOL songs, thanks man
Awesome! You're welcome!
that's a thang of beauty my friend, cheers🤘 x
wow that was incredible, literally made my day
Man, you make it look super easy, great job!
That was a good watch, good job
One of my favourtie songs of all time, just thought about covering it by myself too! Nice job, keep it up!
It's definitely up there! Thank you :)
Thanks, you made my job easy!! Cheers.
Wow, great cover Max! 🔥👍😎💪 Keep up the good work!
Thanks, bud! 🤘☺️
Great cover as usual, thanks for the upload and lessons, its brilliant in both note for note playing and similarity in tone with the original !! Inspires me to pick up the guitar and learn a Tool Song !!
Eagerly awaiting your cover of Lateralus, already know it will be spot on mate !
Cheers !!!
Awesome, man! Glad to help! Lateralus is a tricky one, because there is so much bass going on atop the guitar. Sometime for sure! 🤘
Not only are these great covers - they are step by step instructions for the guitarist cover artist - I wish other bands had similar type instructional videos - would probably help with a lot of Van Halen songs
Thank you! :)
Super smoothe and clean, love your videos
That's great! Thank you so much!
Wow amazing man! Thank you! Maybe it's the time for Lateralus for next!
Amazing work man! I'm learning from these videos so much, such top-notch tabs!
The intro-reprise part is kicking my ass though...especially the alternative patterns Adam does towards the end of the section.
Have you considered doing breakdown videos with this kind of tricky parts slowed- down? Can't wait to see which one you'll do next!
Awesome cover of a great Tool song, especially your graphics with the guitar tab and pedal setup.
You know hes a tool fan when he has the fibonacci spiral tattoed on his left arm
Brilliant cover!
This is so amazing what you're doing here. Love Tool but never even attempted to learn their songs. Technically maybe I would manage, but memorizing all the small changes of riffs or patterns... that would be a challenge. But I feel encouraged to try now.
Keep up the good work. That's inspiring. 🙂👍
Awesome, Tomasz! Glad to hear that, have fun learning! 🤘
Killed it man
Incredible work!!!
Thanks!!
Thank you man 👨
Great cover my dude! Keep it up! 🤙🏽
Would you consider doing some more Karnivool covers? Love your stuff dude
Of course, definitely want to do more by them :)
2:40-3:00 is chefs kiss.
man...great work. Wow.
Thank you for the tabs !
Awesome dude was gonna request this one from you!
Thank you, Justin! 🤘
Excellent Buddy. 🔥 So grateful for the detail.
