    I did notice spending time on body activities that make you present really help. Being present is the #1 most thing that has helped me. The moment I allow my brain to run rampant on the thoughts associated with tinnitus it goes up straight away. And then when I become present with my body, it gets downregulated.
    Also nice to know that when I get residual inhibition (from hearing the pure sound of my tinnitus frequency) I still feel a slight buzz around my hearing. I'm not actually hearing a sound, but I can feel that there is some stressed energy stuck in my hearing.
    I found out taking a long shower every night before bed, just sitting there meditating whilst listening to the sound is extremely helpful.
    Good luck everyone.

    I love the idea that your body will prioritise swimming ahead of tinnitus. We are naturally programmed to preserve life over listening (or feeling pain), this is a very important concept... Thanks.

    Rain noises with flat earbuds, so comfortable when sleeping is good. If you get the right frequency sound, it will cancel out the ringing. When you get up and are out and about you won’t notice it so much. Ultimately though, it’s all about accepting it and getting out of the anxious mode, as the anxiety will create a much louder tinnitus experience. Relaxation and calmness, things to occupy your mind with, and a little sleep help with calming music or rain noises etc. Cheers.

    please keep on making these videos you real helped me understand tinnitus and how to deal with it. I'm living with tinnitus for like 1 and a half year now. I shower like twice a day becouse that is for me the best way to escape from being focussed on my tinnitus . I think its very important to try to live day by day in a certain sence. I mean not think about if it get worser or better and then get dissapointed every day. But just live by it and accept it, but at the side still try to find a cure , Becouse when i focus myself everyday on finding a cure and backing of my tinnitus that makes it even worser for me. I think you need a certain uhmm personality or brain sensetivity level when being born to have the chance of getting tinnitus.I think people with adhd add people that constantly focus themselves or pump themselves up in the brain have most chance of getting the loud tinnitus version.

    i am glad to see you putting video out online - i visited you a couple of times a few years ago when i was really suffering following a car accident and other issues. i do still have some tinnitus symptoms and have a better understanding of them now and you are re-minding me of the significance of allowing the sensorial system to find balance (i do not use the word nervous system as i do not value the implication of that word). anyway, thanks for being you and i will watch some more of your videos here.

    love this thanks, I developed tinnitus after an operation. Since then I developed a perferated ear drum, I had the surgery for this 3 weeks ago post op the tinnitus was more staticy sounding and I can now hear the swishing sound of my heartbeat, at first it made me extremely anxious as I was distressed thinking now I have another issue on top of the tinnitus. I practiced mindfulness and kept saying to myself well at least I can swim and wash my hair without getting ear infections, because the hole we low in the ear and had to be fixed. it was very bad at night causing some insomnia so I did extreme sleep hygiene and went to the Dr to get a couple of sleeping tables just for backup if I had a night where I couldn't go to sleep at all. I didn't even need to take one just having them as a backup worked well to reduce anxiety. I try to meditate on the noise and welcome it and I have learnt to lip read abit when out and about as when I'm around mixed noises I have reduced hearing. Surgeon said it's all going to improve over the next couple of months, here's hoping , your suggestions are so good most I have implemented. The ear candle is very interesting , do you have any advice on hearing the heart beating sound in the ear ?

    Please note, I've had tinnitus constantly now for over a month ( I'm 50 ) I'm fit, vegetarian and athletic, I'm a yoga Teacher so I practice and teach on a daily basis and I've been having acupuncture sessions ( twice already, once a week ) Plus drinking the herbs given by the doctor, mind you it gets even louder when they put the needles around my ears, on top of my head and other parts of the body ( it hurts so much as to make me cry ! ) Oh I should also mention that Ive been taking a pill of Gingko Biloba per day plus Gingko Biloba tea and some Serc pills ( once per day ) Given by the audiologist Doctor ( I had the hearing test too ) which are more indicated for meniere's disease which isn't my case according to the Doctor but I just gave it a try to see if it can reduce it or even miraculously go away from my head but all of this has not help my tinnitus one beat :(

    Julian, thank you so much for giving people hope! I have watched many of your videos, want to let go of my chronic tinnitus too, and am interested in beginning a mind/body practice. But personally I wouldn't feel comfortable practicing yoga or tai chi, for various reasons (I'm really happy they work for other people, just not me). Would Pilates and/or regular swimming or bike riding be a good substitute for this purpose?

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  8 років тому +4

      Of course. The aim is to get out of the thinking mind and really inhabit the felt sense of the body. Riding a bike frantically while planning a meeting is not what you want. Doing spinning at a gym watching the TV is mental and dissociative. Pilates would be great. Enjoying the feeling of riding through a park etc great. Its good exercise etc.

    My balance after 10 weeks is still nowhere near back to normal. I know this is not tinnitus based, but should that be concerning? I had inner ear barotrauma from free diving and now permanently deaf in left ear. If I train hard, it makes my balance and tinnitus worse? That is a dilemma I am struggling with. Suggestions Julian. Thank you brother

    I have gone for walks a lot during these past few months. But it doesn’t cancel out the tinnitus all the way. In fact, of recent I was walking around the lake and it was still pretty loud from my right ear and I kind of had a panic attack at the park. In this situation, what would you say is happening? Should I not expect silence the minute I’m doing something that I like? How does it gradually go away? I really hope you respond to my comment.

      @JulianCowanHill  8 років тому +3

      Listening to calming music is one of the best maskers you can get. It takes the focus off the tinnitus, and if it calms you down too, then it is very likely to help your hearing ease out of red alert mode more.

    What can i do to reduce the amount of noice the bus makes? I need to take it every morning to school but i fear it might do bad to my ears.
    And what limit should i go for when i listen to music or watch movies with in ear headphones?
    Thanks!!!

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  8 років тому +2

      Settle yourself down with yoga or tai chi or craniosacral therapy and your tolerance of the bus sound will go back up again and your hearing will no longer be so hypersensitive. Great to listen to music as long as it is not loud or damaging for your hearing. This is the best masker there is!

      ear plugs - or what I use are noise-cancelling headphones. because they are noise cancelling, they block out the outside noise and therefore the music doesn't need to be loud to enjoy it.

    I was wondering if I could get some advice. Recently I've listened to music on the loudest volume using earbuds or earphones. And I think I hear a ringing in my left ear, but at the same time I don't. However, when I move my jaw or clench it, I can hear a ring very clearly. It's not super loud, but it's definitely noticeable. About the thinking I do or do not hear it, does that mean I'm just paranoid, or tinnitus is low pitched? Do people with tinnitus hear it loudly? Cause I don't think I do. Only when I clench my jaw. That's about it. Do I need proper jaw alignment, or the earphones and loud music really did cause tinnitus.

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  8 років тому +3

      Please do not listen to loud music. This will damage your hearing and can trigger tinnitus. Always stay within your comfort zone. You may be an adrenaline junky looking for a thrill when you do this. Tinnitus can be loud or soft. Moving the jaw brings in more stress to the system which can activate the tinnitus which is completely normal for tinnitus. Go and see a chiropractor, craniosacral therapist or osteopath to help your jaw release and to settle your nervous system. They may help you. Best wishes Julian

      @BigBoss-qn2kk 8 років тому +1

      +Julian Cowan Hill I'm going to see my Dentist who specializes in TMJ tomorrow. Would that be fine, or Chiropractor it is? And I only hear the ring when I clench my jaw. It's getting lower when I move it around and chew each day, so thankfully I think it's not permanent.

      It's actually been documented that electro and traditional acupuncture has an effect. As Julian says, all forms of stress impact the level and keeps it very much alive and people find acupuncture very therapeutic. I believe the more you believe in the treatment you seek out the more you will benefit from it and placebo can be an amazing thing.
