A nice review, one of the few videos showing how versatile this little beast can be, many reviews are quite metal-oriented, here we can hear a lot of classic rock too, thanks! I own this amp too, also great for silent playing with a basic attenuator as dummy load and with IR pedal through headphones. The built-in headphone output sounds dead and muffled, better than nothing though. Currently the only affordable 1w valve amp with such versatility.
Maybe I don't know amps that well, but I have owned brown face Princeton, Blackface bassmens, pre cbs champs, airline amps, Newer champs, swart amps....this is my favorite amp i have ever owned. No need for pedals, crank it and it gets close the Bluesbreakers tone, the clean sounds fine. Love it.
I have a bigger marshall amp but it's digital. Would the tube amp type be a good upgrade? I currently have I think 15watts which is far too big for my home so thinking on switching for this.
@@PedalScience Thanks for the reply. It sounds like a lot of people prefer them though some can't hear a difference. Guess I'll have to see for myself, the dsl1 sounds like what I'm looking for. Great video!
Well done on a thorough review of this amp, but in a very straight up way most everyday players would test out this type of amp. Only one addition would be to also show a Strat or Tele test as well :-)
this is a killer amp , .1 watt can still be loud for apartment use , a good set of headphones can solve that, looks great , has the effect loop, did you find it loud with the .1 watt, but I am looking at this amp as a purchase in the future, perfect practice amp for home ,
Since it’s only 20 euros more to buy the cr instead of hr and you can also connect it to a 16 ohm cab, is it still better to buy the hr? I guess they would sound the same through the cab?
@@PedalScience thank you so much for the answer. I guess for only 20 euros an extra speaker where you can just setup and play wherever you want won’t hurt!
I have wanted to buy DSL1CR and tested it in the store. There was some noisy buzzing and I give up. Since the the sound was great during the playing, I would like to know how to fix that buzzing, if you had the same problem. Thanks.
How loud were you playing it in the store? I never had buzz with mine even at loud volume so the store one may have had an issue, although single 8" speakers can often sound a bit buzzy anyway
hello, I would like to know if the volume is suitable for playing on the street, without a group but alone with the backing tracks.. hello thanks FRANCESCO
I’m not sure it’s big enough to fit a 10”, at least an 8” can be fun for low volume playing but I don’t know if changing it to a different one would improve things
@@PedalScience there is no advantage of 8 inch speaker over 10 physically. Looking at the specs, the lowest frequency of the 8" speaker is 100hz, while lowest e note of guitar is 83hz. So yes, this speaker cannot fully reproduce the tone of a guitar.
@@PedalScience Interesting! I've heard conflicting things about whether I can use 8 Ohm speakers safely with the 16 Ohm dsl1, you haven't had any problems?
I bought yesterday dsl1 and it sounds crappy, fizzy, muddy... Not the same as on youtube videos, on classic gain no matter how much i turned up volume knob, the sound is always clean, and jltra gain channel is horrible... Play through my epiphone, with alnico 2 pro humbuckers.Big disappointment, back to the store

I have this amp and a Swart Atomic Jr. in my bedroom, the DSL1 is the amp I play most of the time. Quieter is sometimes better.

thanks for this video. It's cool to have demos on youtube !
Nice demo. I have this amp and for practicing the stock speaker sounds real nice. Don't have a cab so I'm glad I like it as is.

There is no headphone output, no?
Nice!

Yes they would sound exactly the same so it's really an aesthetic choice based on how useful the 8" speaker is to you

Check on guitar and wall power! What else was running from that socket, don't get me started on cables and connectors 🤣
Very good amp ! Thank's....
Nice sound!

yes but it needs mains power - if that's not a problem then I would recommend the DSL5 or DSL20 for a bit more headroom.
They could have put in a 10" instead of 8, many would buy it in a heartbeat.
Is there any solution for speaker swap?

So if I have this combo I can play it through a cabinet ? I don’t need to buy the head then ?
correct
any particular speakers you recommend with the 2x12 cab? I have a dsl1cr but the 8" doesn't really cut the mustard
Currently have 8-ohm Neo V types in my 2x12, very happy with them.
@@PedalScience Interesting! I've heard conflicting things about whether I can use 8 Ohm speakers safely with the 16 Ohm dsl1, you haven't had any problems?
@@sborussho Well the cab is wired to be 16 ohms but I would have absolutely no worries running the DSL into an 8 ohm load.
I have a dsl1 Cr, turned into head. Plug it on my cab with a V30 and G12L. Sounds full and bigger than it is. I love it
How do I run this combo through a cabinet ? Would the head be more ideal or no big difference ?
I think you did not make the best adjustments for the sound here (Amp and Guitar). Found other demos where the amp sounded much better.
Good to know, thank you
Cool review. Code 50 vs dsl1cr? Thoughts?
DSL for me every time
Lol codes sound like shit
