I have a DSL 1 combo. It's clearly one of the best Marshall combos ever made . The sounds are pure tube dream, punchy, warm , the toner stack is very efficient . A lot of great Marshall sounds in this little amp. The effect loop is great. This little Marshall combo is a must have .
@@jaxxonvloeberghs2933 I don't own this amp, but another. Have a look in the manuel by downloading. At tube amps you're normaly not allowed to run it without a speaker. Bonedo wrote, the manuel is fine with removing the speaker in off position. So, I don't know. The emulated output should be bad, on another combo I could use this output well with a 250 Ohm Headset. But the 1 doesn't have a manuel standby so I'm also interested.

So true! It's frustrating when you're watching a demo of an amp, and the guy does the "10 seconds of clean tone, then spends the rest of the video with the gain maxed out and a DS1 and flanger pedal in the signal chain" 😂🙄
I have the DSL1CR, and this video was crucial in my choice of the amp. That said, it sounds even better after the speaker has been broken on; more warmth and roundness. Very well done video!
The DSL 5 CR Sounds fantastic through extension cabinets with 12 inch speakers especially closed back cabs . It's far better than the origin 5 or the old Class 5 Marshall's. A cab with greenback M25s or Creamback M65s or G12H30s really push the amp more in a vintage direction.
&adamwatson6916 Hey Adam, I just checked the specs and in both description it says that there is „no connectivity for external speakers“. How did you connwct an external cab? I have an ENGL 2 x 12 to connect to.
Demos like these can sometimes be a bit misleading. In real home situations where most of these will be used they don't quite sound like this, particularly the ultra gain is not as fat as it sounds in the demo. I had the DSL1 and replaced it with the DSL5 for home use, they both sound good and have nice, classic Marshall tones, but particularly the small speaker and case of the DSL1 causes the ultra gain to be rather boxy, which is to be expected. In a small bedroom it's fine, in a larger living room I found it too thin. The DSL5 has a more full and warm sound, but that one also sounds less fat in the ultra gain channel as is presented here, comes close though.

Why don’t they make the 5 as just a head? I much rather this than the DSL1 head(doesn’t mean I don’t want a DSL1!) Also, great video, thanks for the help.
Thank you or the great demo. Quick question regarding clean. And maybe its all in my head, but it sounded to me that the 5 watt had a more rounded clean tone? how would you compare them
Hello, I was thinking of getting a practice amp. I am about picking one of those two. Apart from the cost which one would you recommend? 1cr for being more quiet and easier to carry or 5cr for getting “more” tone but less portable?
I don't think so. It has its own personality. It's not a numeric amp wich can mimic other's amps tones. The internel 8"HP is too small for pedals. it quickly sound very harsh with a pedal. I plugged it in a 12" cab and it's far better. But for Plexi tones, you need a Plexi.
Nearly all demos clean examples are very poor and seems to me only single coils pickups react good and with character to clean, all other pickups are more flat and cold...
Speakers-cabs make difference, listen DSL1head on cab here : ua-cam.com/video/SWO4-1TSZsE/v-deo.html. Also DSL5 has an extra preamp tube but that can be for clean channel gain knob.

I LOVE REVIEWS WITHOUT TALK ONCE IN AWHILE! THANK YOU FOR THE BREAK!
I wish all reviewers were able to demo as wide a range of tones and styles. I end up watching all these GB videos just because of the guy playing.
This is an exraordinary video. Too bad the amp doesn't sound as good without his rig. I took home a Blackstar HT-1 because it sounds 10x better.
@@guitarplayer2846 The Blackstars have no soul, I have 3, they are all for sale. I play my Fender and Marshalls..

Great video, you did a fantastic job of demonstrating what the amp has to offer. This is by far the best video of this amp.
first demo where the one watt have a beautiful clean sound !! im happy to see guys who know how to turn knobs here :)
Terrific demo.
I just bought the DSL1CR. It's due tomorrow and can't wait to crank it.

So nice, this is in my opinion a damn good demo. I wish you do all the DSLs and the Origin series too. Thanks. Bill
The DSL5CR sounds great in the Telecaster
Really dig the rolling Stones tone at 3:37. I own one of these, they're fantastic.
Is that the 5 you own? Can you get good sounds from it at bedroom volume? I’m thinking of getting one but worried about how loud it might be 😂
Love this demo, to the point and very efficient. Great styles and tones. Thank you!

This is a pretty good demo for how the thing would sound if you record with it. Agreed that it's terrible as a sound in the room example.
Great info, thanks!
This is how. All reviews should. Be. A+++++++
This demo is superb. Sold my DSL5C last year but have since regretted it badly ! So 1CR or 5CR for me :)
Which one did you choose mate?
The old versions have one more tube, the new ones replacing it by a MosFet.
Thank you for such a detailed demonstration of the sound!
Still Awesome demo, 2020 😎
Great video so thanks for sharing. I'm so torn between the DSL5cr and the new Blackstar HT-5R Mkii

Straight through the amplifier? Sweet!
Thanks Dude. Nice Video.

DSL5 - gain on clean channel seems like a dummy knob. Anyways this was perfect demo. Thank you.
I have both!
Which Would you recommend?
dsl20cr?
what microphone is that? Sounded great
Great video. Thanks.
My new fave Marshall amp demo .....aaaah no talking.....just Marshall tube tones......
a slice of heaven ....aaaaaaah!
Sounds amazing. How well does it take pedals though?
Well, has a fx loop in the back
Why don’t they make the 5 as just a head? I much rather this than the DSL1 head(doesn’t mean I don’t want a DSL1!)
Also, great video, thanks for the help.
DSL1cr is perfect (for what it is intended for). Even better than dsl20 (idem)
How can it be better with 8" speaker and these tubes?
This demo is OP. I just bought the 1 watt
How well does the clean channel take high gain pedals...KHDK Dark Blood for example????
Beautiful demo. Can i ask about the classic gain, can i play clean rhythm with it? Thanks
i want the 1w amp !
but make a demo with gain for the neck pickup (Slash's tone ) and with the bridge pickup (metal tone and fast solo )
This is super helpful!
DSL 5cr here we go
Why does Marshall make a DSL1 and a DSL5. I don't see a need for both as the DSL5 covers the DSL1 and then some.
volume
Thank you or the great demo. Quick question regarding clean. And maybe its all in my head, but it sounded to me that the 5 watt had a more rounded clean tone? how would you compare them
It's possible, the 1 and the 5 and others haven't the same hardware, 1 has 8" speaker, 5 has a 10" and other have a 12"
If the 5 watt has a 1 watt limiting switch, does that sound as goood or better than the 1 watt?
And I want to hear a 335 pushing amp hard. I play a strat. And a 335. Please demo the 335 with the DSL 100. Volume on 4 Or 5. thanks
does the dsl1 need Bias adjustment?
this 5W equals how much watts in a normal amp?
This is a normal amp
I guess he means solid state
40 or 50
the sound of rock !
This (the 5 watt) vs a Roland jc-22, thoughts?

If noise is an issue, you can lower the power output of the 5CR. Combined with more tonal options, I would definitely choose that one over the 1.
What is that second song you play in this demo?!🔥
Clean sounds good , ultra gain makes a LP sound terrible
Can you gig with the 5 W. ??
Hey are you using an sss strat here?
Why they cant make a warm sounding amp in same price.
they do
I guess you mic has lack of lows. Otherwise tone is great.
i thought the lows were the best part of this amp demo...i was impressed.
is this loud enough to play with drums?
yes
If they would only put a 12” speaker in these guys
1:42 VS 3:57

Of course!
would 5cr be to loud for home use? thanks
Just got it. It is actually a less volume than its predecessor the DSL5. It can go very low for night use. Just right I would say.
It’s made for home use
No it's good for home use. It's not louder than the 1CR (I had both at home) but it sounds much better.
