I’ve been an alcoholic for a few years I watched this video and it broke me down. I messaged nick on instagram and let him know my situation last night. Nicks story is the reason I’m getting sober today. He messaged me back almost immediately. He had the tough conversation I’ve needed to have for a long time. Idk why but I feel empowered to get my shit together today!

I hope you're still going strong. I quit in the beginning of November and I'm DONE. Turned 60 years old and decided I wasn't going to take substances into the last part of my life. I'm a caffeine only person now. My only vice.

@@TheDisorderly Wonderful ! Remember that the "thing" inside you that wants to drink has no control over your hands. You are in complete control. YOU have chosen to never drink or use again, IT will always want to party. It's that simple.
If you are unfamiliar with Rational Recovery, I strongly suggest you read up on it. It's the answer to gaining complete control. I have been alcohol free since the beginning of November.
You got this, my friend. Just recognize the voice when it is talking inside your head, and call it by IT's name.

i hope you doing good, stay strong when the urges might come! i never drank alcohol, so i cant speak from experience, but i know for sure, that daily meditation is the best thing you can do for youself, when things get hard and problems from the world start to stress you out. these might be the moments you should watch yourself, your inner voice and dont jugde yourself and the things so much... as a i said im not an expert, but ive gone through a hard childhood and many stuff and i just wanted to write this so it might help you or someone else, when things seem to heat up

Yeah it’s horrible for a innocent man to have to go through what he did. Other than finding a way to know if they are 100 guilty can’t do much about it. The prisons are horrible places to be an a lot of bad shit happens inside but the problem is the prisoners are what make it so dangerous and miserable punking killing raping each other.

Hard times, injustice, and emotional breakdowns may come in our way, but the person who doesn’t let those events break his or her spirit, and keep the spirit alive, choose kindness over envy, forgiveness over hatred, and growth over destruction, is truly unbreakable.

If it's true mental illness, it's physical, please look up Hardy Nutritionals, call them for guidance, speak to your doctors about decreasing any meds while starting brain nutrition. It worked for me, for you maybe a few weeks/months, but you have to believe in nutrition, it's not willpower at all, just daily consistency in loading up your body/brain with good nutrition until you start working better brainwise, then continue. Mental illness/nutrient deficiencies is not the same as the blues/life circumstances(failure, breakup, death of loved one, psychologically sensitive etc.). Just my two cents.

I'm so glad he was able to do this interview. I just watched (like as in a few minutes ago) a video that was about an hour long and was just him telling his entire story in detail. He spoke beautifully, as if he was reading a well-written story of his life right from a book. This interview gave him a chance to show his soul, his raw emotions. It's a wonderful, heart-reaching contrast, to go from one to the next. It was actually quite lovely and real to see and I'm glad he showed it all. I hope he knows that, hope someone told him that.
This man was hurt, made mistakes, was more hurt... but he PUT IN THE WORK. He did all he could to become a better person. That's a lot. That is so difficult and incredible. Good on his mom to help push him to that and good on him for his determination to stick to it and see it through. His story is gut-wrenching but also so inspiring. Just phenomenal.
Anyway. I pray he's happy now.

What they rarely get right in the media when it comes to prison is how prison will change you, period. Some people find themselves and grow; others become more hardened; more likely to reoffend; and still others simply exist. These places are massive warehouses of unwanted and often misunderstood humanity. Each state is different, just as each institution has it's own flavor. Some far worse then others.
In some ways, being nearly always cut off from family and friends are hard, for many people, the shear boredom, peppered with indignities and violence, can and will mess with your head. If you entered the system already loaded with 'issues', likely then Prison will compound and twist your 'issues' into directions that are hard to explain.
For some, prison is just another home. Want to know how often a person has been incarcerated? Ask them what letter is behind their prison number. That number is issued for life, at least. Meaning that if you reoffend, you retain your number and gain a letter. I've met a few with 15 or more letters.
It also doesn't help that the politicians have been working hard over the past few decades to gut the programs meant to help inmates to come to grip with their issues; which they often fail at doing. The same doubles down for mental cases. Many states have downsized or eliminated 'mental intuitions'. Why bother getting people help 'before' they commit a crime? Because it works and the system doesn't want that. 'They' want both a revolving door so they can continue to point fingers and twist the outcome to their political rhetoric.
They also want to pack the prisons. Oh, they'll say over and over it's not about money. After all, how can a state - owned and ran prison be a cash cow? Look at where most prisons are located. In backwater areas of a state where they become the main source of good paying jobs. Perhaps not so good paying if your working for a privately owned prison.
Think on that for a moment.
The first time I heard about a 'private' prison I became confused. Privatizing something implies that there are profits to be made. Now, prisons don't really produce much, do they? Oh, here and there, sure, but really? They consume things. People, money, resources, with little to show for it at the end of the day.
Once, long ago, a progressive Iowa Warden told a room full of people. "Most people behind these walls are going to be released. These men and women are going to return to your neighborhoods, perhaps in the house next door. So, which would you prefer as a neighbor? An Offender who was treated well; given chances to learn skills or gain an education? Someone whose shown respect and encouraged to improve themselves by the examples of others?
Or, would you prefer an angry, frustrated, scared, dangerous, lost individual moving in next door to you and yours. Someone whose life experiences were made far worse by that stretch in the joint.
Which one would you prefer? And no, you don't get to quip or snip about this. 'I'd prefer they never get out' or 'Not in my neighborhood' Well, open your eyes, 'cause based up on the incarnation numbers in America, its becoming increasingly likely you know someone; live next to someone; work with someone; that did time.

So is raping a kid, murdering a family, serial killing, robbing, stealing and hurting others.
An innocent person in prison is one thing.
A scumbag in prison reaping what he has sown is another.
I have the feeling you've never been around inmates before. In my experience they're the most manipulative scumbags society has ever put forth. And when they can't manipulate you they'll seek to kill your ass without hesitation.
Go get a convict as a neighbor. You'll see what I mean then imagine a thousand of them in your hood.

LOVE! love yourself, love others, treat others in the way you want to be treated. Love helps us connect to each other on a whole different level with a whole different set of rules. The beauty of love is incredible. Love makes us who we are, it makes us talk a certain way,act a certain way and feel a certain way. The lord programmed us with love being the driving force of our lives. Constant struggle and Hardships tend to reprogram our thinking and our struggles and hardships create a darkness and that darkness absorbs our light. We cannot afford to lose that light because that light is our loving force and our loving force is everything good in this word. It is everything important and it's the most important thing we live for.. Be positive, twist negative thoughts into positive ones and always look at the bright side of everything or darkness will absorb your love and light... So to be nice and courteous and everything this man is talking about stems from love.. Get with it folks start loving more. Drop those walls and get comfortable with the word love because it's the most important thing in our lives.. Push the negativity out and let love fill your life with light, love is the most powerful force, start to believe it because its true and powerful.. love you all, godbless!

marmite400 I find for me, it’s difficult to be kind especially when I’m feeling bothered by something 😏 someone said or may have did to me, but this guys advice.. is to still be kind & polite 😓😤 that’s almost like telling me to carry a 200 pound weight to work everyday without complaining 🤔 is it impossible? No, just really difficult after a while 😤😏

Ehhh, I think a lot of this this guy is exaggerating because when you look up information about him different times it says that his allegations are disputed (which they say that when the information cannot be corroborated). Plus, I've never heard OF ANYONE that has went through THAT MUCH CRAP FROM OTHER PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE THEM SUFFER. JS

I first heard Nick's story on a (BBC) Radio 4 programme called The Choice - after release Nick moved back and forth between the UK and the US, marrying two Englishwomen. His choice was that if you show 'genuine remorse' you can get early release. But how can you show remorse for a crime you didn't commit?
The cinema documentary about him THE FEAR OF 13 is on UA-cam for a small fee.

This is so heartbreaking. I can’t even imagine. And the Thorazine story is unbelievable!! I don’t understand how people can treat another human being such a way no matter the circumstances. If you’re not defending yourself you’re simply abusing and torturing others for pleasure. Such a sick an evil world. 😢
