This chip shortage business is getting really old. How can Porsche not have made provisions to create your own chip replacement business. This is over 3 years and these are multi-billion dollar companies held captive by a supplier, ridiculous and being used to screw the public. Just my rant for the day...
Porsche is intentionally creating demand by intentionally limiting the number of available cars and selling at higher prices. If it works for them business-wise then I guess it makes sense for them. It does not make sense for me. I’m in the process of buying my dream car. I always pictured a 911. I could do it, I just don’t like what they are doing, so I took the car off my list. Not that any of this matters. It’s not like my not buying will matter, because there are clearly enough people out there that are able and willing to buy into their new approach.
According to a recent report by BCG, the 10 year total cost of ownership for a chip fabrication plant is $35-43 billion. That’s why Porsche doesn’t have one.

I wonder when the full on EV version of the 718 comes how it'll affect the prices of the ICE 718 market? Will they skyrocket, fall or land somewhere in between? As a Porsche fan and owner I appreciate your vids friend.

Looks like I'll be keeping my 981 Boxster s with sports exhaust the ev cars just cannot compare with the aural pleasure of the flat 6. Speed aint everything for sure.

@@Davidb67 yep they do ..I've had a Soul switchable sports exhaust installed on mine so even more awesome. I waited 18 months for Porsche to send me the PSE but even after 18 months they had no ETA, so went for the Soul.
As an owner of 2.7 981 I agree, I am only sometimes lured by GT4. 4-cylinder models are just too quite. Even GTS sounds too muffled.
I just don’t know if I could live life without all those discontinuations !!!

Where I live the aventurine green is still available while the espresso interior was until recently but no longer. I put in the order for mine but it hasn’t commenced the build yet.. was very tempted to go for aventurine green with espresso interior. Was mulling it over but guess that boat has sailed
Will Porsche add any additional exterior colors besides the red/purple color? Also is there a replacement for the Espresso and espresso/cognac.
I am going to order a Cayman GTS4.0. So from Nov 2023, electric steering column will be re-installed?
I also heard a rumor that the Deviated Color Stitching was eliminated for 2024? Evidently some '23 allocation builds have been told they can't get the deviated stitching. That's unfortunate for all as that is a nice option. I got that just under the wire in my just finished Boxster GTS 4.0 which was very lucky. Now just have to find a ship that will come over to San Diego to deliver it! You teased it but didn't go into much explanation about the potential final year of the ICE 718 as rumors are they will be done side by side in '25 and others as it will be the final year.
It’s true. My March allocation for a 2023 bounced the deviated stitching, which really pissed me off. I’d been waiting a while for this car and all of my favorite configurations involved extended deviated stitch. With that gone I went with a two-tone interior just to get some interesting contrast stitching into the car.
@@arkachatterjee5179 That's a good idea. If you like Race-Tex you can still get either the chalk or the red stitching with the GTS package if getting that car, but otherwise your solution works really well too. Good news is you are getting an ICE 718 which will be going away.
Any news you are hearing on the ice 25 version? I think it's now been established that they will have a parallel run for some time. Hoping that some of the discontinued options, particularly interior options, sneak back in.
Are there still SD card readers in the 2024 models?
I feel fortunate to get a GTS 4.0s with Espresso + Cognac, being built right now. This and Chalk + Black have been dropped (from the US build website), so only dark interior colors remain. My ‘24 with a 6 speed will be one of the last pure Caymans before the EV era begins. Expected delivery in California in December 🤞
Having a CD player is ESSENTIAL for me 😑

Hey appreciating the content! My local Porsche Centre told me only the GTS 4.0 are available to order and all other models like the S is already not being taken into the product slots. I don’t own a Porsche yet but am highly interested in a 718 or 718s and would love to order one.

Well, I purchased my first Porsche just yesterday (718 T) here in Germany (used one) and looking forward for the delivery. According to the official dealer here, they no longer take new orders for any of 718 cayman / boxter models, not even for gts 4.0 as the new car will be Ev. Maybe you guys have still got some import quotas in the US for new orders but it is clear that Porsche has already moved on with petrol 718 at home 😢
I thought Carrara white was spelled with an “a”, not an “e”? It’s named after the marble with the same spelling, not the Porsche model. Another great video BTW!

Thanks for this video! I just got a CPO '22 Cayman 718. Are there any significant changes from the '22 to the '23/'24 I should be aware of? Seems Androids don't work with '22 (will get an iPhone anyways), but any other major changes to internal electronics or exterior? Really appreciate it!

My dealer said almost no dealer has any build slots left for Boxsters, Cayman in base, S or GTS trim levels. Seems like the ICE engines are all spoken for until the new electric boxster arrives.
When I was looking for a BGTS last Jul, my local dealer said I had no chance to get the GTS model before 718 switch to EV, and the S model wait time would be about 1.5 year ish. Then I asked another dealer which was 200 miles away, they said there was $10K ADM on S models, and 15K ADM on GTS models.
Are 718 Boxster Style Edition spoken for as well? There may be slots for those left.

Hi Jennifer! Yes I believe if everything goes to plan the last year for any Cayman or Boxster to have an engine will be gone after 2024! 2025 the platform is set to go electric.

That is why I ordered a 2024 Cayman S in April 2023 and received it in August 2023! I have driven it 4500 miles already! The price is over $9000 more than the 2021 model. Electric Cayman S? 😢 No way! 😊
I posed the question on the 718 forum....will you buy an electric 718. Not one "yes" response. So who exactly does Porsche think they will sell these "things" to?
That right there is probably why Porsche is saying they are going to keep making them with the ICE engines for a couple more years ..... Porsche doesn't have a clue right now as to how they will sell .... It's going to be interesting.

It’s a shame auto high beam assist isn’t available. It’s a nice feature once you have it and don’t want to go back to manual form. My 992 911T has it and it’s logic is spot on. I can’t say the same in my wife’s VW Atlas R.
What the 992 is missing is wireless phone charging. Seems stupid given VW and Audi has it on all model post COVID. $200K plus car still charges phone by a wire. Lame.
Porsche should offer analog dash options on the Carrera T or any car that a customer wants to spec that way.

I just love an analog tach whether it be a car or motorcycle.
I’m trying to keep an open mind about progress, but I can’t seem to escape the feeling of sadness that one of my favorite parts of the car is being forced into history. The sound of a flat bank of cylinders at full howl has an emotional connection to my past that cannot be replaced. Feelings aside, the engineering decision to use a power source that is environmentally destructive and inefficient cannot be Porsche’s. But for government forcing automakers to ditch ICE (and the promising compromise of hybrids) in favour of their political friends in the mining industry and so-called green energy industry, I think the ICE would have evolved into a more affordable, cleaner option with more freedom for consumers. Better range, cleaner emissions and longer service life are being ignored for the latest fad.

I just placed an enthusiast build order for a base Cayman. 6MT, Sport Seats Plus 2-way, LCA, PTV, SC, PASM are the only options I ticked. So a mini-T, but in yellow. I'm kind of miffed at the price increase, but the local Porsche dealer eliminated their non-negotiable markups for the base due to the MSRP increase. Their base/S sales have also slowed down tremendously, since the car has been out since 2017. It used to be a $10k markup, so I may have even come out on top a little. Next in line for the next allocation. So... fall-winter time frame and looking like a spring 2024 delivery if all goes well. With my build, I think it will appreciate in the long run. It's not going to appeal to the masses during the time to sell, but I don't need all the buyers. I just need one.
Congrats! That is awesome you were able to secure a build as just like you said Porsche has drastically decreased 718 production! With the electric variant in testing I believe you will be very happy with your decision to purchase the final internal combustion 718!
Great news 👍🏻 because i am waiting my 2023 style edition and i am thinking alot about if they come with sport exhaust or not. but i need more explain because i found in instagram on spain porsche account, they post pictures of a style edition 2023 without sport exhaust!! Could you please inform me why ? ,, I am living in GCC and asked our local dealer and they said the sport exhaust is standard same your golden answer. but what i saw in the instagram made me nervous.

I ordered a Spyder more than a year ago and it'll arrive in a couple of months. My dealer told me it's discontinued going forward and the GT4.

Do you think the ICE models will also receive technology updates? I was very disappointed when the camera required for PDLS+ and to read speed limit signals was only removed from the 718 models. Is there any chance of these options coming back?
If no ICE offering, no Porsche for me. I’m considering GTS 4.0 because it’s pure NA engine without turbo. I can live with turbo but no hybrid or ev for a sport car like 718.

EV's are completely "unPorsche"! They are not what this company represents! Porsches first EV attempt was dismal, having a terrible range and consistent battery problems! If I wanted a really good EV (I had one), Tesla is hard to beat and their pricing is great! However, if you want the true king of gas powered sports cars, Porsche is your brand! I have a 2000 Boxster and a 718 Cayman. The quality and reliability of the early Boxster seems to be superior to the Cayman. However, both have amazing driving capabilities!

I'll wait for the 2025 facelift of the 718 (ICE and EV) as I'm hesitant to pay 100k+ dollars for a decently spec'd GTS 4.0 and have its really outdated interior!! I know you don't look for that when buying a cayman but still, its 2023 lol...
I really hope they keep making the 718 GTS 4.0 versions until the ICEs are fazed out in 2027. According to Porsche's CEO, they will continue selling 718 ICEs along with the EV version for a "couple" of years starting from 2025. Who knows though, if Porsche makes a break through in their e-fuel technology, it can be rolled out to all their ICE line up and avoid killing off their Macan and 718 ICEs...I don't know, EV sport cars don't look or sound appealing to anyone yet, especially with the lacking infrastructure, range anxiety, lack of character and battery technology deficiencies. (hoping the recent solid state battery technology breakthrough delivers on the 900+ mile range promise)
A disgrace it's being replaced with electric.. Unless the eco-fuel and carbon-less (or whatever) engines become a thing!
Hopefully Porsche continues to work on its E-Fuels and we can keep internal combustion engines alive!

Shaking my head, instead of building more GT4 and Spyder they discount it... but they continue to build truckloads of 4-cyl Macan. Porsche is playing a dangerous game of becoming a luxury brand and no longer a performance car brand.
