      Imagine telling people don’t do whatever is causing an issue because they are wrong and cars that are cheaper don’t do this. Don’t be a fan boy. You’re sounding like a Tesla owner. If they didn’t want you shifting into first gear while moving they could easily tune the trans to not let you do that. It’s literally that simple. They didn’t so that should tell you something.

      Usually there's no first gear synchro, so you just need to rev it up a little to slip it into first smoothly. But on the PDK thats a different story.

    1. 2:40 the "OFf" display in the climiate control IMO is a non-issue
    2. 3:55 clunky first gear downshift on PDK, is a legit concern, not a big problem though, could get the stick
    3. 5:34 Ride quality can be improved with PASM, 18" wheels, and the 2-way sport plus or 18-way sport plus seats
    4. 7:19 Grey rev counter is terrible and can't be scene, get it in a different color, black is the best for visibility, grey is the worst. I prefer the yellow
    5. 9:10 - yep never get the 14-way seats, he 2-way / 18-way sport plus seats have more padding. If I see a used 718 with the 14-way seats I look away
    Rennlist, 718forum, and Nick Murray's channels great sources of information

      yuppers...3, 4, & 5 are mentioned on Nick's channel. He always recommends sports plus seats (2 way or 18 way). Both are better than the 14 way or the basic 2 way regular seats.

    My guess as to the reason why the "OFf" display in the climate control is the way it is, is that the last digit "f" is responsive to the temperature when the A/C is on, for example, "79f" or "26c" as in "Fahrenheit" and "Celsius". I guess Porsche thought it would look even weirder if the degree type was a capital letter, for example, "79F". I'm wondering what would display if the weather were over 100F (37C).

    Good video! 718 GTS owner here. Even with manual transmissions, you don't hit first gear until you have stopped because that puts stress on it. Love that you went with the Brimbo red brakes... the step up is an $8600 option which is crazy. I think the S or base model is better as a daily driver than my car. I agree about the seats. They get painful!

    By the way, I was told this by a driving instructor at the Porsche Driving /Experience Center in Atlanta. I was downshifting to first stopping and he said shift into neutral coast to stop than start in first after stopping. It’s easier on transmission and engine and it’s cheaper to fix brakes than transmission in a Porsche!😊👍🏻. If you can afford a few hundred bucks that Porsche driving school is fantastic! You can pick your car and an instructor drives with you as passenger giving you tips. I picked a similar car you have several years ago- 718 S Boxster. Great car to drive!

      well, I never learn or drive automatic transimmision, and on the older cars I started to drive it was 'forbidden' to use 1st shift to ride except starting movement. so this habbit stays with me and I never use 1st gear to stop. I have brakes for it. so I think the problem with 1rs gear is not in transmission but between seat and steering wheel...

    nothing in this complaint video has any merit. hate is a strong word.. annoyed might be more appropriate. the small f, whatever.. really? the hard ride? its a sports car dummy. buy a corvette or a minivan. the downshift to 1st? you shouldn't be engine braking. bad practice. the little cubbies? engineers were kind enough to make use of some wasted volume, you can store weird stuff in there you don't need often, or just ignore them. whiny, that's what it is. gray rev counter? easily changed. did you order that?

    The cause of the display disparity is probably the build of the display itself. Imagine, if you will, construction of the seven-segment display. It's a collection of LED lights; not a pixelated screen. Then, imagine sticking a bunch of those little LED lights that make up the 7 segments of different sizes and shapes in a coordinated, consolidated collection that makes up the entire screen you see with temp, right and left, then the fan speed indicator bars. Each is a single LED, simplifying the overall system complexity. The third digit LED's probably wouldn't fit due to conflicting with other individual lights. Either that, or maybe they're shared with another, unseen in your example, display of other information. Either way, it's the simple build of the component that's causing that issue IMO. Thanks for the tough fought video. Sorry about your phone... Cheers from Charlotte

    As far as im aware All duall clutch transmissions have a clunky first gear..ie-volkswagon/audi/vag,, nissan/gtr, porsche, The only way to too eliminate the lower gear clunk is by shifting with more load on the gears....(j have found if i want too have a clean shift down to first or second by downshifting at either a higher rpm or by braking harder(more load) and that tends too eliminate clunk 100%///or in the cars auto shift mode case it will slow down the gear change(release the clutch slower. (Try understanding that it is 100% just a manual that is automated.) if u shift fast in a manual at a low load its very clunky. But if u shift slow its much smoother

    • @DriveMore718
      @DriveMore718  2 роки тому

      It’s more of a track thing, if you’re tracking the car and come into a hairpin turn then you usually go into first to keep the power out of the turn. If I put the car in sport + mode it automatically slams it into first even if I’m just driving normal. I’ve had a a lot of people ask me about this but I think it’s people that don’t race the cars or have never driven a Porsche on the track.

    As someone that drives a manual everyday for 15 years… you never down shift to 1st gear. Once you are completely stopped…. You start over in 1st gear. Rolling stop signs are always done in 2nd. Im guessing your shifting before you are completely stopped, kind of like when people go into “drive” as they are going backwards from “reverse” ….. both are terrible for the car.
    I have been to a porsche and bmw driving day on racetracks. Why buy an automatic and not utilize it…. The car is a better driver than you. It knows when to shift. The transmissions are amazing and can shift faster than I ever could shift my 6 speed. I just don’t understand the in between bullshit . I’m guessing it is for pro drivers that are actually smarter than the car. I just would never use paddles or an automatic shifter .

      Really, you never downshift into 1st? ... Mmm, if you were driving a 718 GTS 4.0 and get to 45 in 1st gear, knowing the power comes above 4,000 rpm, wouldn't you want to drop it to first approaching a 25mph corner? ... or when you're trying to trickle into a steep driveway at an angle, wouldn't you find it advantageous then?

    Does the ride quality have anything to do with the large rims? I have a 718 Cayman with 20 inch rims and I have a feeling that is what is causing the issue with the ride quality. There is not enough tire cushion between the wheel and the road, because of the super low profile tires.

    I have never thought shifting to 1ST gear was advantageous, if anything, just the opposite. The 981 2015 Cayman I owned was very 'comfy' so can't help you there. The seats were quite firm, but not to their determent. Clear view to the dash gauges, check. I traded for a 911 and of course, their OFF marker on the air conditioning reads like yours OFf and I don't find that a problem at all. I'd bet there is a reason for it, so will keep my eyes open. Good luck...

    6:54 PASM doesn't have a softer setting than your car currently has. It has the same setting (but actually harder because the car is lower) and an even stiffer setting. American cars all seem to have squishy suspension compared to European cars, frankly. It's an actual sportscar, you're not meant to be comfortable. Go faster.

    • @cadriver2570
      @cadriver2570 2 роки тому

      You’re totally right about PASM. I just wish the car had softer suspension setting. It’s too harsh on the roads in my region. Rented one and just couldn’t do it. On smooth roads, no problem.
