Yo! I like your channel. You're entertaining and your workflow is somewhat smooth, I dig it. I want to get a ZV-E10 and get some lenses but I'm not sure how those would look or work with Catalyst Browse. Have you heard or tried the Tamron ones for APS-C cameras? The 11-20 mm and the 17-70 mm. I would love to see a video of you trying those out with the Sony camera. :)
The Tamron lenses are great and will work perfectly with Catalyst Browse. I use Tamron 28-75 for my A7iii and love it. if I can get my hands on the apsc versions, I will try them for sure.
Mine just overheated and turned off. I freaked out a little. Thanks for making this and helping out! I had the flip screen closed and was recording a tutorial at my desk. I’ll try the high temp setting although I’m somewhat unsettled by the prospect. And I’ll keep the flip screen open.
Don’t worry about the high setting. almost all Sony users have been using the high temp setting on all the cameras for years. I believe it’s just an “overprotection” if you hand hold for a long time so your skin doesn’t get irritated. The camera will shut down still in that mode if it gets too hot.
Great video. I have a question regarding the power. Can the video be recorded while the camera is connected to usb or dummy battery is necessary? Thank you.
Haha. I’m American but I say “Zed-Vee-1“ because for some reason there were a ton of Canadian reviewer‘s on this camera when it first came out and it got stuck in my head. Lol But now I think I prefer Doug. Lol
Ive now tested the overheating of the ZV E10 and unfortunately it overheated quite quickly, although Ive set the overheating temperature to "high". Ive recorded in 4K (100M) in a room with about 77 F (25 C) for about 40 minutes with open display and then I shuts off because of overheating. This really sucks! Ive tested it three times and it overheated every time after 30-45 minutes. Have I done anything wrong? Do you now a solution for this problem? Maybe it wouldnt overheat with the 4K 60M setting instead of the 4K 100M? Thank you! Greetings from Germany! SuperExtreme
That does suck - 40 mins of continuous recording without much ventilation at 25 degrees is warm for sure - but it shouldn’t overheat like that. Is the camera on a tripod - if it is resting on a flat surface it will definitely overheat faster.
Hi Mark, mine overheated at 40 min and turned off, was shooting 4k 30 fps 60mm in normal temperature room, temp set to high, I was using it on extendable selfie stick tripod from ulanzi the one that you already reviewed for 20$, i bought the camera new from Amazon😢 should I return it?I also bought a guarantee for it, what's your advice? thanks in advance
All modern cameras are very good at low light. Just buy a lens with wider maximum aperture that takes in more light, to bump up the lowlight performance. But full frame but this but that camera? Really? 5-10 percent difference won't make that picture/video whoaa better in low light. Still, focus on the lens..
I bought the Sony ZV-E10 for Streaming, should I buy a dummy battery or is it enough to charge the camera while streaming? Would the latter damage the battery? What do you recommend please, thank you!
Any thoughts on using a dummy battery for livestreaming? since the camera was designed to continuously charge while the USB type C was plugged in for streaming mode..
Sorry I can not really speak well in english! So some of this video I do not really understand. Is this camera has a recording time limit? If it has, how many minutes can this record in 4K?
I wish I was that lucky :( I was streaming in 4K with this camera with a 16mm 1.4f sigma lens, running on the official sony AC adapter. I unfortunately had it overheat 3 or 4 times during my last stream and shut off. My room gets pretty warm but I've never had it happen with any of my Canon EOS's. Luckily I was able to return it but it made me sad because other than my issue with the overheating it was a really amazing camera, I loved the colour, clarity and super fast zoom.
Gotta ask man, when you ask whether we “like the way this looks” are you referring to the camera or yourself? 🤣. Great vid! (What’s woth the 100k subs? I thought it was over 100mln?!?)
you can set the camera to silent shooting mode. menu 2 page 5. set silent mode to on. This will not save you a ton a battery life. a much better way to save battery is to put your camera into airplane mode - menu 3 page 1 - airplane mode to on
Hey Mark, quick question. I’m looking to embark on the UA-cam journey. I want to do a combination of vlogs (walking around/day to day activities) and real estate property tours. Do you think this ZV-E10 is the camera for me? Any suggestions and advise would be appreciated. I have no prior experience with video making so I’m learning on the fly and want to know where I should put my money and get the most bang for my buck. Thanks, love the channel!
Fellow UA-camr here. I'm looking at replacing my G85 with the ZV-E10. I do TV reviews, and the G85 doesn't have enough range to capture HDR brightness or dark level detail on new TVs very well. Can't afford an A7S III yet, but can probably sell my G85 and lenses for the cost of the ZV-E10 and one lense. Do you think the range will be a noticeable upgrade? Also being able to do up to 120hz would be nice for recording motion.
The G85 can get you great footage (I have a GH5 and A G7 and I love them), but it's true it doesn't have 120p for slo-mo. There will be a dynamic range upgrade yes, because the ZV-E10 will allow you to shoot in S-Log or HLG. When you shoot HLG especially you will get more useable dynamic range that you colour grade without the image falling apart. But take it from me - it's a little harder to use the Sony cameras - Panasonic menus, buttons and touch screens are sooo nice. So there's always a trade off.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for the reply. I pretty much always do manual settings and do like how easy the Panasonic is to get there. Haven't touched a Sony yet, but I'm sure I'll get it figured out. I'll probably get it with the kit lense and pick up one or two extra. Generally for my use case I use 16-24mm range on the G85 which has a 2.2ish crop at 4k iirc. Sometimes I need wider as well. When shooting the TV screens I use between F4-5.6 with ISO between 200-1600 depending on what I'm trying to capture. But when unboxing or shooting objects I need under F2 for this room's lighting. So for the Sony if there is one that gets around 12mm and F3.5-6+ range, and a 16mm F1.4 or so, those with the kit lense should cover what I need. Thanks again 👍
Man, I love your style! Thanks so much for the video. Do you have any experience livestreaming with this zv beast? Would it also be prone to overheat, even when connected to a powerbank? Thank you!
most people who livestream with the zv-e10 are reporting no overheating connected to a power bank as long as the screen is open and the camera is on a tripod
Am looking forward to every one of your E10 vids. The price of a 6400 and a E10 is so close here. Only about $130. It make choosing a very nuanced decision. So far the drawbacks to E10 are the flip out screen (i like flip up), no viewfinder, plastic build without weather seal (humid here) and that Catalyst Browse isn't available for Linux so useless to me. If the price drops here it might get more interesting. Keep 'em coming - very interested in the hands-on reviews.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the response! Another reviewer said he left the camera on for 6 to 7 hours with usb power and connected to his capture card, and it had no heat issues. Though he did have to use the high temperature settings and the camera was a "little bit toastier" than his a6400. Heating would be a even less of an issue with a dummy battery. Could you do another video on ZV-E10 from a streamers perspective (if that's your shtick)? I could imagine many streamers being interested in this camera.
Unfortunately my zve-10 is overheating and shutting off when I do podcasts or filming a comedy show. I'm using the 30 mm 1.4f lense from sigma. I already set it to high temp. control and manual focus and also bought a dummy battery and the screen is flipped out. I heard that the sd card also maybe adding heat if its not powerful enough for 4k footage. I'm using a v30 card. What card are you using and do you have any other tips to avoid overheating?
that’s too bad. I use a sandisk extreme pro v30 amzn.to/35rRohD Heat escapes through the bottom, so being on a tripod is necessary - I assume you’re doing that. so, the only thing I can say is that it might be the dummy battery. How long are you recorded for? my battery lasts 100 mins of 4K recording, so if your podcast is less than that - maybe try the battery??
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hey Thank you very much for your response! I think you are right with the dummy battery. I checked the voltages on the dummy battery in comparison to the original sony battery and the dummy battery is putting out more volt and more ampere. This is probably the issue. :) Thanks!
I managed to overheat the camera after 60 minutes in standard mode. the camera just turned itself off during the recording. Wifi was turned on and connectet to the remote software. May this be the reason?
60 mins is standard mode is actually pretty good. Everyone advises (me included) to turn auto off temp to high. This will not damage your camera and it will still shut off if it actually starts to overheat. The only reason Sony seems to have for the standard mode is because they don’t want people holding a warm camera in their hands and potentially get a burn after extended use. I, and everyone I know have used the high temp on every sony we’ve owned with no issues.
I am interested in buying and using the ZV-E10 to document my field work (conservation/animal researcher).
Each field work session can last 10 hours, so I need a camera that can handle this. Theoretically speaking, if I have unlimited memory and power banks, the ZV-E10 can record forever?
I would probably look into something like a GH5 for that. You'll have two card slots, in case one card corrupts or to do recordings back to back on the two - and it's a workhorse - rugged and likely no overheating no matter how long you go. It sounds like you'd be manually focusing in those situations and the autofocus and lowlights are the only flaws of the GH5
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the reply. I just looked through the GH5, a little too expensive for me. Anything else you would recommend that is more budget friendly?
Hey again, Mark. Well, I enjoyed and commented on your other video (ZV E10 in low lighting), and I'm hear checking out overheating videos. Again, cool video. This is a big concern of mine. I've been using my smartphone to shoot 4K videos, and when I set up in the Texas sun (Summer temps average between 95 & 100 degrees) my phone's camera will shut down in about 20 minutes due to overheating. As I hinted in my previous comment, I've never owned a dedicated camera. I wonder if I'd have the same issue with a camera that isn't having to deal with processing phone/data service. Any thoughts?
in direct sun in those temperatures - almost every camera will overheat. If you have a camera with a fan like an FX30 - you have a better chance as long as you put up a little shade for your camera
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I assumed that no camera could sustain a working temperature in direct TX sun. When possible, I do set up the camera in shade. That helps. But I’ve always wondered, if I need to set up in direct sun, does shading the camera from above affect the image quality if what I’m shooting is in the sun? Specifically, does the shade maybe mess with the light getting to the aperture? (And pardon me if it’s a silly question.) Or does all the light the lens/camera need in what I’m shooting, regardless if the camera is shaded to help keep it cool? Make sense?
It would be good to tested out the highest frame rate. I assume people pay money for this camera, because of its capabilities of 4K and high frame rate. Therefore, they expect it to not overheat on those conditions. We really need to understand better before buying.
Hello, I am a little confuse. Some people did an overheating test and get results very differents... Why is that ? This camera don't have 1 million options so I don't understand...
I can’t tell you what other people are doing - but I know that if you set the internal temp to high and keep the screen open and put the camera in a tripod - it doesn’t overheat in reasonable conditions
Nice!! I'm living in Japan, try to buy one but, all menu is in japanese. I didn't find how to change it in menu settings even after reset factory. Any hint or it's a limitation? Thanks!
Another commenter said there was no way to change it. I am very surprised - but you’re the second person who mentioned it. Hopefully they will fix that with a firmware update.
Have you tested Doug with USB power banks or npf/dummy batteries? In terms of on USB power does the battery maintain charge, or slowly trickle down like some of the a6 series.
Yes, you might not have caught it - but in the video I tried the battery with a USB power bank. I lost about 10% battery per hour connected to USB. So a slow trickle down.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis in that case I'd bet a dummy battery npf or V-mount may be a better option for future rigging. Adorama said Mine may not ship til October :/ Things I do for points...

Great content as always.. hope to see some content about how this little guy doug performs in photography with using just the kit lens.
Will do!
I think my eventual Sony RX0M2 problems were from over heat usages. Of course it had other abuses.. but that thing was super 🔥more than a few times.
interesting - the ZV-E10 never really got too hot to the touch for me.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks so much for the info! I’m about to get back to filming right now 👍🏼
What power bank did you use?
Great video. I have a question regarding the power. Can the video be recorded while the camera is connected to usb or dummy battery is necessary? Thank you.
a battery of some kind must always be inserted. You can run it off USBC power and record - but there has to be a physical battery inside the camera
Haha, as an Australian, I hear your pain on the pronunciation… I say Zee instead of Zed. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Haha. In this together!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis have an awesome week and get from The land of Oz.
Haha. I’m American but I say “Zed-Vee-1“ because for some reason there were a ton of Canadian reviewer‘s on this camera when it first came out and it got stuck in my head. Lol
But now I think I prefer Doug.
Is the camera on a tripod - if it is resting on a flat surface it will definitely overheat faster.
mine overheats at the same rate. were you able to find a resolve?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis mine over hears @ 4k. Same issue. On a tripod ... Not much happy. Also stabilizer sucks!
thanks for trick ;)
Useful video, thanks for posting. You just saved me the $165 for the dummy battery. Please keep the content on Doug coming. Liked and subscribed :)
Haha - Glad it helped!!
Hi Mark, mine overheated at 40 min and turned off, was shooting 4k 30 fps 60mm in normal temperature room, temp set to high, I was using it on extendable selfie stick tripod from ulanzi the one that you already reviewed for 20$, i bought the camera new from Amazon😢 should I return it?I also bought a guarantee for it, what's your advice? thanks in advance
what about low light qualities of the ZV-E10 is it any good? Great Videos!
So far - it’s been good. I will do a more in depth test and post the results. but no complaints so far

I would get a dummy battery if you are doing a lot of streaming.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What dummy battery do you recommend?
This one should work well amzn.to/3PtgLnL
Is this good for low-light photography?
Yes - as far as apsc cameras go - it’s great

I'm happy to see your sub is going up the numbers, keep uploading and keep drinking juice hehe,
absolutely!!
Any thoughts on using a dummy battery for livestreaming? since the camera was designed to continuously charge while the USB type C was plugged in for streaming mode..
Dummy battery should work great for streaming. will save you some time and effort to set it and forget it!! 👍👍👍
Sorry I can not really speak well in english! So some of this video I do not really understand.
Is this camera has a recording time limit? If it has, how many minutes can this record in 4K?
no recording limit on the camera. it records as long as you have battery or sd card room
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you!! I am going to buy this boosted alpha 6400 what is, the ZV-E10!
@@rpodpodcast3947 it’s a great camera
I wish I was that lucky :( I was streaming in 4K with this camera with a 16mm 1.4f sigma lens, running on the official sony AC adapter. I unfortunately had it overheat 3 or 4 times during my last stream and shut off. My room gets pretty warm but I've never had it happen with any of my Canon EOS's. Luckily I was able to return it but it made me sad because other than my issue with the overheating it was a really amazing camera, I loved the colour, clarity and super fast zoom.
did you have the internal temperature set to high?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yep, and also with the LCD screen open as someone suggested but unfortunately I still had the same issue :(
@@Caiyth Wow - that’s too bad. But thanks for letting us know
Gotta ask man, when you ask whether we “like the way this looks” are you referring to the camera or yourself? 🤣. Great vid! (What’s woth the 100k subs? I thought it was over 100mln?!?)
Both! 🤣🤣
Hello, does your zv-e10 have shutter sound in taking photos? I can't find option to shut it off. So that I can save battery
you can set the camera to silent shooting mode. menu 2 page 5. set silent mode to on. This will not save you a ton a battery life. a much better way to save battery is to put your camera into airplane mode - menu 3 page 1 - airplane mode to on
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks you Sir!
Man great video
The battery does get hot to touch after/during recording 4k… right?
I don’t use a dummy batter, but very likely it will get hot after a while. regular batteries do too
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you so much Sir… yes i don’t use dummy batteries either but yea my original battery heats up after 4k recording
5:26 why would it overheat if the flip screen is closed? Wouldn’t that mean the screen is off so no heat generating from the screen?
it's not the screen that heats up - it's the body. Heat from the body needs to escape - if the screen is closed - it traps the heat.
Received my lens and filter, but still no Doug! Keep the updates coming!
Haha. Everyone waiting for Doug, get a move on Doug!!

Thanks, JR!! Sounds like the a6400 might be the one for you 👍👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Leaning toward it, but i have several bodies to upgrade, so maybe later 1 E10 could be in the mix.
Thanks for the tests. Have you tried if there are any heating issues with 1080p if you stream for a long time with a dummy battery?
I have not, but I haven’t heard any overheating issues with th dummy battery as long as internal temp is set to high
@@kalervoraisanen yes - I’m not a big streamer myself, but I plan to put a video together about the streaming capabilities 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Great!
I use a sandisk extreme pro v30 amzn.to/35rRohD
Heat escapes through the bottom, so being on a tripod is necessary - I assume you’re doing that.
so, the only thing I can say is that it might be the dummy battery.
:) Thanks!
Hello,
have you test how long does it takes the battery to drain when you have a power bank attached?
cheers
about 10 percent per hour when recording 4K
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your advise. I just switched to hot 🔥 Mode 👍😆
Make sense?
Can you do a overheating test on the Nikon z30?
I did do one in my Nikon vid - but it overheats in 4k after 25 mins and doesn't overheat at all in 1080
Thanks this is useful.
You’re welcome!!
does shooting 4K @ 30 FPS yields the same results, or is the heating issues when shooting 4K @ 30 FPS?
No overheating for me in the same situation
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis good to know that... Still waiting for the camera availability... Hope it will be available soon

Another commenter said there was no way to change it. I am very surprised - but you’re the second person who mentioned it. Hopefully they will fix that with a firmware update.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for fast reply!
