Just imagine the number of cameras that these companies sell. It seems they purposely never get one camera exactly right, so customers/photographers buy numerous cameras, which is great for the profit margins of the manufacturer.

The ZV E-10 to me is a camera to both love and hate, at the same time.
Regarding viewing of LCD with (polarised!) sunglasses:
Yes, you can't by default in landscape orientation; Sony failed it in this category both for the A7 III, ZV-1, and A7C. All the other models' screens don't have this issue.
The fix is easy: just buy any screen protector, and you will be able to see it through polarised sunglasses.
    Bad:
No 4k60p, no 10bit 4:2:2, old Sony non-touch menus, no EVF (its a vlog camera, but would have been nice), mediocre build quality, no weather sealing, no front dial, no joystick - understandable, but the Canon R10 ups the game, small battery, small grip
    Great:
Zoom rocker, separate (and nice feeling) on-off switch, Tiny and light, Unlimited video, good screen, good conectivity (flash mount, mic + headphones), excellent video quality (in 4k, 8bit), LOG, button customisation level, tally light, active stab., gyro stab., excellent autofocus & tracking (in photo and video), good max photo framerate, good color science

Shouldn't be expecting 4k 60 4:2:2 10bit in a 700$ camera from sony 😂. The closest u can get to those types of inbody recording is from gh5 mkii . The closest camera i could found that can output 4:2:2 10bit 4k (& dci). Is the fuji x-e4 at 850$ but to get that u need to spend extra on an external hdmi recorder cus the inbody recording is only 4:2:0 , uhd 30fps 8bit. And the only camera matching with your demand is the panasonic lumix gh5 mark ii . It does 4k (dci) 4:2:2 10bit 60fps recording internally!. At 400mbps that is.

Bad: No "auto iso min ss" settings anymore (where you can apply the auto ISO setting to a fixed minimum shutter speed). I used it all the time on my A6400, no idea why they threw it out of the window. I have the camera for testing a few weeks and this might be the reason i return it.
Also the display gives me a very reddish tint, especially when pointed at the blue sky with white clouds. The clouds appear to be almost pink. Annoying af.

All the features you mention as missing on this camera are already on the A6400 and other Sony cameras. For this price point, you are being a bit unreasonable. This camera is wonderful for what it is. It's inexpensive, produces great video and photos, and is easy to use especially for beginners. If you want pro features, don't choose this camera.

    • @switchunboxing

It’s not really unreasonable to describe the issues of the camera. For someone like me who doesn’t even know what an A6400 it’s informative and good to know reasons I may want to invest more to get some added benefits. He said it was a good camera at the price.

So if he didn't mention the drawbacks, he's "sponsored" by Sony, but if he does, he's unreasonable? And yet, maybe they're still not "unreasonable" if they're willing to spend a bit more for the missing features.

    - The sensor is the same as in the A6400, so it's from 2019. It's definitely better than the sensor in my A77ii, which actually is from 2014.
    - You can also delete the folders that you don't need in Windows Explorer and not format the SD card. Keeps the settings as well.
    - One other annoying thing is that, apart from the lack of back button focusing options, it is not possible to assign the AF Tracking option to the shutter button. You can only assign AF On to the shutter button, so you have to use the C1 button for focusing/tracking/following and the shutter button to make a photo. Doesn't make any sense

Hey Dave, I`m about to start this as a hobby, and I literally watched almost every video on ZVE 10 vs a6400 on UA-cam. All they say is same sensor same quality, difference in built quality and missing EVF. If you put for example Sigma 30 m f1.4 on both and use same settings and do street photography, do both cameras give identical pictures ? But all those "cinematic"videos and POV street photography with the same lens on both cameras I watched on UA-cam, a6400 looks to have better quality, sharpness and cinematic footage. ZVE 10 photos and cinematic videos just look not as sharp as a6400. Do you think it`s those creator`s lack of skill not to upload ZVE 10 videos as good on UA-cam or is a 6400 really better quality of picture and video. I`m about to buy either of this, and I really want a profesional answer. Thank you )

My initial thoughts on this review is that it is spot on. Thanks for the workaround tips! I purchased the camera based on price to see if I like the Sony system and help me decide on APSC V Full Frame. The idea is I would not have to sell my lenses if I mice’s to Full Frame. Fuji Film does not offer Full Frame so any APSC Lenses would be useless in a move to Full Frame. Because the camera lacks a viewfinder, I don’t have the confidence I am getting the best focus possible when using the screen and focus peeking in manual mode (required for using vintage lenses. Also, recording on 8 bit color depth is limiting. Thanks again. At its price point it is a very nice camera for photography.

    • @xuchenglin6256
      @xuchenglin6256 Рік тому

Unless you buy Full Frame lenses from the very beginning for an APS-C camera body (which is crazy, the biggest advantage of APS-C is the much cheaper lenses), you can't use your APS-C lenses on FF. Yes you can, but then you get the same FOV and same effective pixels just like an APS-C (APS-C lenses can only cover part of the FF sensor, about the size of APS-C), it basically turns your expensive FF body into APS-C. So what's the point? That doesn't make sense. The APS-C camera body only costs a fraction of the FF body, one doesn't affect another. If you want FF, just keep the APS-C unless your budget is really tight. But if this is the case, probably you should never bother with FF. The FF lens price is steep, and the film/videography industry standards is "small" sensors, about APS-C size. You don't see FF in cinema cameras like the RED or Alexa. Theater Movies are shot actually using APS-C sized sensors. So if you care about video there's completely no advantage to go with FF. Just see how many people using the A7R series shooting in APS-C crop mode for better quality. IF you care price then the playability is much more higher in APS-C, because for the same amount of money you can get your hands on much more different lenses if that's your thing. FF only shines IMO in the High Resolutions. If you go FF, either go with 61MP a7r4 r5 or 42MP r3 r2. It's mind-blowing once you used to it and you will never coming back. (although the price is steep, especially for the lenses, unless you only want one, and from my experience one is fine and still very enjoyable, you just missed the play-with-lenses part, but that's not a bad thing at all, it forces you to focus on your photo rather than gears.)

There is a reason why the a6400 body is rugged and weather proof vs the zve10.
Albeit sharing similarities. One is more for indoor or dry weather content creator type of work load for like youtube.
While the other is designed for everything else not the zve10 is for.
Zve10 even got the product showcase mode which actually work as intended.
Again indicating what the zve10 type of camera was designed for.
Hence the a6400 excels at what it was designed for and it has such pro's vs the zve10 which is designed fir a different workload.
They could realistically make a hybrid zve10xa6400, maybe it exist already.
But the price for it would definitely be more expensive.
As if the "budget" zve10 or the a6100 is not expensive enough even though they are called budget their retail price is not exactly cheap either.

I bought a ZV-E10 a few weeks ago after doing extensive research about it vs. the 6400, 6600, ...
My main focus is photography with some video and I for me the 6xxx line is really unattractive in comparison.
I hate viewfinders, especially electronic ones but I NEED a proper flip screen as the ZV-E10 has, not one of those that only flip up like with the 6xxx line.
Also: USB-C! (that alone makes me prefer the camera by a huge margin)
The only things that I dislike are what you mentioned with the profiles, I would love to have different Picture Profiles and different settings depending on if I'm using Photo or Video mode.
Also: Catalyst Browse stabilization is amazing, sadly the Catalyst Browse application is utter trash.
Having to stabilize every video manually one after another is awful.
I was really hoping to at least be able to batch process the files, but that is paywalled behind Catalyst Prepare.
Also the app doesn't work on Apple Silicon yet and I also can't automate the processing on my Server, because it needs OpenCL to work.
I was really hoping to be able to use the opensource Gyroflow Software instead, but I haven't yet gotten it to actually do some decent stabilization :/
Oh and also the camera feels a little small, so I put a Smallrig Cage on it and now it feels perfect.
Got myself a cheap sony tele and the beautiful Sigma 30mm f1.4.
Only thing left is to replace the kit lens (which I think is horrendously terrible) with the sigma 18-50mm f2.4 and then I'm set.
All in all: I really love this camera, it is so much fun to use and photos just turn out great without much effort.
    See you on PortraitMode! :)

      100% agree regarding catalyst browser.
Lots of UA-camrs praise this camera for vlogging. But for me it’s a 0 vlogging camera just because lack of image stabilization and awful catalyst browser.
Imagine if you make 3 vlogs per week. For each vlog you shoot 1 hour of raw video. Pass through catalyst browser 1 hour of video it would take around 5 hours. It’s just 5 hours to add additional time on top of editing time. For 3 videos it would be 15 hour per week. Plus you need to pay subscription for bulk processing.
Which vlogger on Earth would do this? Of course no one. Better to sell this camera and look for other options.

    • @davidvongries
      @davidvongries  2 роки тому +1

I tried Gyroflow too the other day and it's just not comparable. The Catalyst Browse stabilization is so freaking good but as you said, it's suuuch a hassle to stabilize each video individually. And there's no way I'm paying 14€/month just to be able to batch-stabilize my footage. I actually signed up for the Catalyst Prepare trial and it failed on me multiple times batch-exporting a bunch of videos at once.
I upgraded to the Sigma 30mm 1.4 just recently and I love it! I replaced my Sony SEL35F18 with it. Also agree with you on the kit lens. I've sold mine a few days after I got the ZV-E10 :D

    • @davidvongries
      @davidvongries  2 роки тому +1

I don't get it either. Also the fact that the kit lens is "only" 16mm wide and using it with the bad active stabilization crops in so much makes this everything else but a vlogging cam.

Good concise video for sure. I have the ZV-E10 and Nikon Z6ii. Both DO NOT allow you to accept line level audio and you're stuck with using their mic. pre-amps to some degree. My Fuji X-S10 allowed me to select mic or line level. I think all Fuji's do. This allowed me to use a quality external recorder, pre-amps and microphone and send the audio line out to the Fuji as line input to the mic jack. This also gave me baked in 48k/24bit audio. With the Sony you're stuck with 48k/16 bit and NO ONE wants 16 bit anymore. Have you found any way to get better than 16 bit audio onto your video recordings on this camera? I'm seriously thinking of selling this and going back to Fuji just for the better audio.

Excellent vid! I need to buy a lens for the exact purpose of making a video like this one. What lens did/do you use for your studio setup? Sigma 16mm F1.4 or the Sigma 30mm F1.4? I'll buy whichever you used in this video via your affiliate link N/P! (Also, why is the 30MM cheaper than the 16MM? I'm not a photographer - I solely need something easy to use for course content).
Also, a great video would be to show ALL the exact settings and lighting you used to film in your studio for this exact video. (I not only like the content, but I love the quality of this vid!).

David: Just found your channel, as this video came up in my Y-T feed after watching another review of the ZV-E10. I do think the lack of a viewfinder might be an issue for me, so I'll definitely check out the A6400. Nevertheless, I'm really looking for a Swiss Army Knife of a mirrorless camera for photos and video with interchangeable lens capability, so I can also use my trusty old Contax/Zeiss lenses (with a C/Y-to-E mount adapter) for manual photography. So far, the ZV-E10 looks like a winner. Thanks for this!

Great Vid. You've gained a new sub, quick question though.
I'm looking into purchasing a camera (never had one prior), but I've been recording with my iPhone 13 Pro Max.
My content is heavily sport related ie. Basketball & Football where there is a lot of high speed action.
my main focus when recording is being able to capture slo mo in basketball (and I've recently learned 60fps is the minimum frame rate required to do this, which luckily my phone is very capable of doing, but from other reviews I've learned that this can record up to 120fps but limited to 1080p).
I don't have a camera man, so I mostly just place my camera (phone) on a tripod to record, and zoom in when editing.
Given all this, would you recommend this camera to someone like myself (my budget is £850), a beginner with no prior experience in videography with a camera.

What’s the best camera and lens for doing product videos? My videos are just my hands holding the product and my current issue with iPhone 13 Pro is nothing will stay in focus. This means I have to end up recording a shot 5 times. My current video is nearly 5 hours of footage that I’ve been editing for a month and will painstakingly turn into an 8 min video. I don‘t think so to be honest. Sony has just released the ZV-1F which is the entry-level camera in the ZV line-up and the FX-30, which is basically their cinema APS-C camera. If you‘re looking for a significant update over the ZV-E10 (for video) the FX-30 might be worth looking into.

You highlight a bigger issue. Caneras designed for vlogging. The ZV1 and ZV1f both are great for youtube studio but not for active outdoor vlogging. LUMIX has tried with the G-100 which is great for photogrpahy but not for vlogging.

Thanks for the video! I have 2 questions concerning photography:
    1. If you can´t set a minimum shutter speed in A-priority, can you at least set a max. ISO in manual mode with auto ISO? That´s the way I like to shoot events.
    2. If I get it right, you do have 2 control wheels, one on top and one at the back, that you can set to shutter speed and aperture, correct?
So shooting in manual with auto ISO should work well as long as you can set a max. ISO in auto ISO mode, right?
Oh, one question about video aswell: Have you also used S-LOG 2 and if so, what´s the advantage of HLG3? Thanks!

I have seen a lot of ZV-E10s on eBay. People selling them because they thought the camera would make them a YT Billionaire... Hence Sony advertises the ZV-E10 as a vlogging camera... "Theirs a sucker born every minute" P. T. Barnum
I had DSLR rigs and personally I got tired of all the work that went into taking pictures, especially when the latest mobile devices were taking video and photos just as good. A relative of mine has the A7 and all the goodies...Yet, his pix look so good, not because of the camera....because of the lenses and the software he uses. His Brother in-law uses the ZV-E10....he showed me side by side pix on his computer...after a little adjusting... You couldn't tell the difference. All the adjustments are for pro's and serious photo-graphers. I have an application i'd like to use ZV-E10... I think it will work out and save me $2 hundy off the top...and my Cousin has all the lenses
