Sony ZV-E1 Overheating Tests
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- The Sony ZV-E1 has sparked quite a conversation over the past week since its release. A lot of good points but also a lot talking about the negatives including the overheating issues.
While a lot of people are talking about it have not even had the camera in their hand, there is a small overheating issue.
If the camera is used how Sony designed it, the camera will not overheat. This camera was NOT designed to be constantly recording but only used in burst recording. Even with professional filming this camera is more than sufficient to do so.
Please take not of certain situations and just be aware of the limitations you may encounter.
Do not forget Sony have multiple other cameras to choose from if you are wanting longer record times and professional work.

Don't forget the other cameras you have access to if you need longer record times, FX3, FX30, A7SIII, FX6 etc. Also don't get angry at me. I am just reporting my findings, I don't own the brand Sony. You can take or leave my findings and results :)
Sony are always watching, hence why I make such videos to bring certain things to attention.
I think any video centric camera should not overheat. Especially if it cost 2k. You put a ton of work into this and it paid off. Great Job!
These tests take so long 😅
Its 2600€ here. Absolutely way to high of a price
yeah...is a luttle bit a scam from sony to me, because if you dont watch these kind of videos maybe you will never know that. i wanted to buy this camera, because for me is like to get a fx3 way cheaper, but i dont wanna a camera thats decide how match time you have to record LOL
Nah, this is the best sensor you could possibly get for that amount of money. The dynamic range, low light performance, framerates and codecs for that price? You wont find better. If you are making music videos, commercials or something like that it is an absolute nobrainer.
especially when recording in 24fps
Really appreciate the depth of the ZV-E1 content you are putting out.
Thank you my friend
Very few are going to record externally with the ZV-E1. On a hot summer day, this camera would be so frustrating. Still, for $2200, it’s an incredible B/C cam for existing Sony shooters.
I think a firmware will help this camera
This memory is unforgettable❤
what's missing from this test is recording internally and externally with a dummy battery, please do that too if you can!
People saying this ain’t a professional camera no duh! You’re very smart.
Hi Jason. How about a dummy battery? Will it extend the record time? Btw much appreciate your hard work on sharing useful information with us❤
This feels like the Canon R5 launch conversation all over again.
Thank you for taking the time to run these tests! Very helpful and useful nuggets of information. Besides vloggers, this camera will be well suited for real estate videos .
Great tests Jason, it’s important people to know what they’re getting. I’m buying the camera, but I do plan to use it in shorter bursts (plus I live in canada 😂)
I certainly love the camera. I’ve done a tonne of normal shoots and it hasn’t overheated. I am getting this camera for the 4K uncropped slow motion
@Jason Morris when will you be doing the 4k slow motion tests on overheating then if that's what you are buying for as these test seem to be 4k24
I think this is a very good b-cam for my Fx6 because of all the pros and I can use all my ff lenses 😅 but recording with an external monitor with the small hdmi 😂
@@schoeferfilm is it really designed as a B cam if it only takes small clips? B cams are usually rolling
@@navpreetsingh8156 yes b-cam for my Fx6 for my own projects 😉 or especially for holidays 🎥 small and smart setup
In 4k24 H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 recording on a V60 SD card, my ZV-E1 runs for more than 90 minutes before the battery dies.
My worry, I’m in a theme park in Florida, it overheats in 15 mins and you can’t get it cooled down to start recording again even in 10 mins. This is at 4k 25- at 4k 60 you’ll probably get 5 mins before you have a hot mess. Many people want to record at 4k 60 so you have the option to slow it later, it’s great to always have the option. On my LUMIX G9 I filmed everything at 60, and often decided to slow footage when I haden’t intended to. Do some 60 tests, I bet it doesn’t last hardly any time.
Why all another UA-camrs LYING ? What kind of honesty is that
They aren’t lying, they’re just not testing it like this. This camera wasn’t designed to record long durations so they didnt test it
Sadly, overheating is a deal breaker to me. But for studio I still think it's a near-perfect camera. Also you can use a dummy battery to massively improve the overheating problem with any camera.
Definitely studio will be the best for longer recording.
What about 1080p recording?
Great work, I know doing all these tests can be a real pain.
The concern for vloggers and non filmmaking content creators this is aimed as is they will probably want to do a podcast or long a-roll recordings as its not second nature to them. This means they might encounter overheating even more than we as professionals would. The other issue is they wouldn't know about the overheating or how to avoid/mitigate it.
Yes I don’t think podcasts would be it’s strong point. This is where the FX30 or FX3 will suit
When filming full HD, at a temperature of 30 degrees, does the Sony ZV-E1 camera overheat? Or is the problem only with 4K filming? I can give up 4K, but I may need to film outside when it's over 30 degrees.
I tested my ZV e1 today, i had it in airplane mode, indoor in 19 degrees, and i overheated 24fps 4k in only 13.5 minutes, also i got 7 minutes in 4k 50fps... :/
Looks like you always recorded in the highest bitrate. Not sure I heard it but I do believe that effects overheating as well vs some of the smaller options. That and 1080 results. I know this takes a lot of time and work so thank you.
Me too
i wish i have the test in 1080p...thanxx
I tested highest bitrate to test the full capabilities. With 1080 you can record almost unlimited. Overheating is not an issue
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema so to confirm, if recording at lower bitrates, times do increase? I believe Gerald Undone recorded at lower bitrates. Also, I believe you stated yourself that V60 or even V90 cards can help with reducing heat as well but not sure.
@@sneakergearz not 100% compressed formats actually should make the camera work harder as it compresses the files internally. Gerald’s tests were all in cooler environments too
Thanks 👍. Looks like the camera is not right for me. I don't want to be limited by overheating paying so much money 💰💰💰 for a camera.
In indian summer it's 47 Celsius outside.
How many seconds it last
Ok, so for streaming in 1080... how long does that last? That's half the reason why I'm buying this. Thanks for the video btw. 🐧
lol it overheated on me on a zoom call after 30 min, on HD
give the camera a chance, reduce from All-i to a lower bitrate. how about just no slog but regular picture picture profile off. not that im interested in this camera, but i want to see as many test as possible.
Haha would love to do more but this took ages to do as I let the camera return back to room temp. Will leave this to someone else to do further tests
Really good video. Appreciated your effort. Hopefully version 2 of this camera will address the overheating issue. Fx series is the way to go for the moment.
Thank you Jennifer
I’m baffled that people leave a camera rolling in direct sunlight for hours 😅.
I’ve never had any issues with any camera overheating that I’ve used so far. A7III, R3, S3, ZV1, all of them have been great in capturing the things I want.
As you said, it’s not a camera for Feature films 👊🏼
Well i live in the tropics jamaica and we shoot alot of outdoor events weddings and racing event or festivals and trust me jamaica gets hot!!!! I was using the a74 to film for a hotel ad i was doing and it overheated like craaaaazy i kept on having to turn the camera off to cool it down then start again
@@yanicmb The A7IV was known for overheating too if i remember correctly?
yeah like weddings....im so glad you sold your a7siii for this...just kidding, making fun of you
you live in finland? sweeden? go to egypt, or malta, or cyprus, or turkey see there whast it';s like
@@PeterLindgren1 yup correct but i think they released a firmware that sorta helped
This device is not used in Turkey. Because even a normal day sees 23 degrees on a hot summer day of 40 degrees. Recording time would probably be 5 minutes 😂😂
Of constant recording yes. Recommend an FX3 or FX30 for pro interview and longer recording scenarios
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema unfortunately this is not just a constant recording issue. In such a heat camera internal temps are going to build up and sooner or later you will hit the wall even with bursts. Say if you are travelling and and doing dynamic shots say 20-30 sec each after a few hours you might be unable to do another 1 min take because camera is already hot and not dissipated enough heat due to ambient temperature.
Anyway, thanks for testing this overheating scenario for us, much appreciated!!!
It will probably never open in adana in Turkey. 🔥
New firmware 1.02 seems to help with the overheating quite a bit. It just came out a couple days ago, and I've been testing the crap out it. I havent been able to get it to overheat since the update.
Well, for me: firmware up-to-date, Streaming for webcam, 1080p 25 FPS, about 1h15mins before Heat Lock.
Indoors, 19°C. I need longer (up to 3h). My A7C does that very well, so will my A7C2.
@@GeertDelmulle Oh darn, that sucks. I've been fortunate, mines been working great, no issues so far. I typically shoot in 1080/30 and 4k/30. It gets toasty when shooting in 4k, def on the hot side. I don't shoot in 10 bit though, that could be why I'm not having any issues with it overheating, but of course I'm missing out on that extra bit depth. I can't really tell the difference though.
Dang it, I thought the white one wouldn’t overheat as fast. Thanks for the video.
I'd be interested to see how it performs with a dummy battery and an external recorder.
Would be better. External recording is the way for those who want crazy king constant record times
Nice info. How is the 1080p/60fps performance for internal recording, external hdmi and usb streaming? Also how much extra time with a dummy battery?
1080p can pretty much go forever. Much less taxing on the processor
I’m glad you mentioned this is for vloggers. And Sony was smart for marketing directly towards that market. When I’m out vlogging, the max in recording would be 5 minutes. Rarely would I do 10, just because the file alone would be massive and realistically I’d be using a minute or less of the actual footage.
Live streaming tests are another story and thank you for testing that! I don’t do lives yet but plan to, so I’ll def stick to 1080 or use my a7iv
how long can you record in hd??
And you are fine with the price for a camera that overheats so fast?
@@rogeriogomesosorio4755 for what I do, it wouldn’t overheat. Obviously if I needed to record longer, it would not be for me.
Correct. It is for vloggers. It is perfect for the market who it was designed for. So far In the 3 weeks I’ve pushed the limits to how I would normally use it and it doesn’t overheat
Get the ZV-E1 and spend an extra $200 to get the Tilta cage and fan which solves the overheating issues and saves you $1500 compared to the FX3... however... If you're a fulltime videographer, work in a hot country and are constantly recording for over an hour then just get the FX3
Hi Jason, your videos are awesome! , keep up the good work. Can you test using external mini fan where you put in the
Hello. Thank you very much for the tests. Does it change something if you put long-op instead of all-I ?
As a filmmaker, overheating is rarely a concern. I don't shoot clips that are several minutes long. While the ZV-E1 is being promoted as a "vlogging" camera, it can also serve as a filmmaking camera given the sensor that it comes with. Let's be honest, how many vloggers - who this camera is geared towards - shoot clips that are more than 10+ minutes long? Look at Casey Neistat. One of the world renowned vloggers. His videos are fast paced with clips mostly lasting a few seconds.
People like to complain. I've heard cries about overheating on almost every camera released in the past 5 years. In the end, I don't experience overheating in these same cameras. Then cries of, "Yea, but it overheats in hot weather! Waaaaaa!" Yea, I would think most cameras would have issues with filming in hot environments unless they come with built in fans or another cooling system.
Bottom line. If you think the ZV-E1 will overheat too much - even though you don't even have the camera in your hand - then don't buy the bloody camera. Simple.
@@gigihanmandarin I agree. Sometimes ppl want to push the camera a bit too far but in this specific case, I think the camera is just not doing a good job in terms of overheating. If you are a content creator and want to shoot a 1h long podcast, it will overheat. At this price, this is not a good deal
On the money my friend. Exactly
I was thinking about selling my s5ii for this. But the overheating is way too much for me. I live in Florida and even in winter we get about 26c. So this is not for me. Thanks for the video. It really helped me out.
Only if you constantly record without pressing stop. It really doesn’t effect many in actual real world use
40°C in India. I'm glad I bought the FX 30!
Yes FX30 is designed for that
I've tested my to over 4hrs indoors using - 4k 25p but you have to be powering via dummy battery, LCD to the side, ports open, full sized UHS-ii card, metal lens etc - it is possible to use this for long form recording but it's borderline, I did a similar test with a plastic (body) lens and micro sd ushs-i card with adapter and that combo over heated by 1:30hrs
Thanks for great job.
Thanks for doing this Jason. While I do love the capability of the E1. I would have to go with the FX3 instead.
Same. I am waiting for the a7siii update(if it ever will ofcourse) because I shoot pictures every now and then..
Otherwhise I'll go for the fx3.
@@SianCKB Yep, we are on the same page.
@@SianCKB yeah EVF is only thing holding me from the fx3
@@martin_wood that and the mechanical shutter. 😆
@@SianCKB the fx3 does have mechanical shutter - one less thing holding you back 👍
Hey Jason, thanks for your effort into this but how about 1080? will they overheat under sunlight for 30mins?
Yes Please ? same question
A product with that price tag and overheat issue, is a faulty product that should not be sold in the first place. Amazing how easily we accept these flaws and then start to look for weird solution and patches.
If 1080p is done, does it overheat likewise? Because our ballet company doesn’t really need 4K quality for interviews in UA-cam and Instagram content.
1080p will last a very long time. Not even an issue
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Very appreciated that you take the time to answer our question. Greetings from Tokyo.
Hope u had a great time in Japan. Soon we should find out if they let you test drive the 2023 APSC camera which we hope beats the Fuji recently released cams in all aspects! Of course this cam better be like FX30 with NO overheating problems. Time will tell. Who knows, Sony might not release anything at all. Maybe, we should all move over to Fuji right now! 😎😎
Great information!
I think the camera will be enough for 90% of my shoots.
Thank you!!!
Yes as for most. Some people will complain but not ever be in a situation where it will overheat
Sorry this Sony ZVE1 can't be justified, all vlogger wanted is a full frame camera with perfect stabilization which this camera also owns now. But no camera that overheats so quickly! I don't agree with you saying that vloggers only take short pictures of images. Unless you're a type of influencer vlogger, but people who vlog while traveling certainly aren't. Vloggers like to film in 50fps or 60fps because the images in 24 or 25fps are not smooth. 24 and 25 fps is only good for studio recording but does not show nice smooth images to vlog outside. All sony should have done is mount a small fan in the camera just like the FX30 and then everyone was satisfied. But I don't consider this camera to be a vlogging camera because it is unusable. Or is this the new hype that vloggers have to wait 10min for their camera to cool down? Sony has made a big mistake with this camera.
Buy the FX3. Fixed
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Partly fixed you mean because the FX3 does not have this new good dynamic stabilization.
does the white colour version make it better outdoors? I noticed the first test you did was the black version with a recording life of 20-25min, and the 2nd test was done with the white camera with 31min recording.
From my testing it was almost identical between camera bodies
This camera is interesting to me because of the sensor, but I'm only interested on streaming. Is it going to overheat during a 3-4 hour stream? No recording, only outputting video through HDMI. Let's think of 4k HDMI output. Camera would be powered on by a dummy battery + power supply plugged into a wall outlet.
THAAAAANNNK YOOOOUU!! Seriously, I'm still recovering from overheating PTSD from my Xperia 1 iv. Oh no way! I'll save my counseling fees for an Fx3 or something with better cooling. I live in Taiwan and it gets near 40ish in the summer.
Yes FX30 or FX3 for the win
In my opinion a camera that is marketed for vlogging should not overheat easily. I differ when you mention that vloggers don't record continuously. I have seen hundreds of videos of city tours that exceed 30 minutes straight. For me any camera that overheats is a concern and an unnecessary risk when there are other options that are safer. Thanks for the video and sharing your thoughts!
Amazing video Jason, I think for the size and quality of video It is a great option. I am pretty sold on the camera.
You mentioned about folders with video at around 11:13 mark, where can I find the link to it?
I'm getting the ZV-E1 (initially was going for the A7siii) but I think for filmmaking I could use this. I will always use 4k24/30 anyway 4k60/120 in bursts for slow mo shots so I don't think overheating will be a problem. only downside to me is the tiny HDMI port so no RAW PRORES.. not that I really shoot raw, I think the internal recording with slog 3 in 10bit is enough anyway :D
Don't buy it just because is a new camera... is not worth it my friend
@@BitcoinSinFronteras I currently have an a6400 so the difference will be huge anyway.. 😅 also my next cam would 100% be an a7siii/fx3 but those are out of budget. That's pretty much the reason O buy the zv-e1.
Otherwhise I would go for the Lumix S5ii but I don't want to change brands. 😜
Pay closer attention to his tests, he got the camera to overheat in 15 minutes outdoors shooting in 4K25p. This camera has severe overheating issues at ALL frame rates. For filmmaking this camera would be a nightmare, your entire set could be put to a stall in a matter of minutes. I'd advise just about any camera on the market but this one for that particular purpose! Not to mention ZVE1 isn't that cheap, you can get a lot of options for that price including an FX30 that has a built-in fan and actual real cine features.. just saying.
@@fotomaton7852 I noticed but every review says something else.. 1 says they didn't get it to overheat.. the other says it overheated..
We'll have to wait and see for the production model 😅
@@fotomaton7852 also I just started with filmmaking so it will be low budget stuff haha
How about put the cooling fan like a smartphone cooling fan, into the back of body, does it help reduce the heat?
thats what I've done on my rigs and get all day recording ua-cam.com/video/7xA8SWWkWwU/v-deo.html
It would help, yes
Awesome review! Does your ZVE1 have a loose micro hdmi port? I’m not sure if this is normal because on some of Sony’s camera they have Floating structure hdmi port design to relieve stress/froce. My ZVE1 has a pretty loose port moving back/forth. Just wanted to ask if other owers have similar port.
Jason, love these practical tests. Makes me wonder also how much throwing on a fan (know of one made for the 6500) with a thermal pad would help as well. Do you know if using clear image zoom you can get away with using APS-C lenses without the crop/vignetting? That'd be a uniquely appealing feature, especially with the bump of dual ISO.
Jason I am using sony a7iv with sony vertical grip (sony vg-c4em) and i did not notice any overheating issue at many outdoor situations. sony cameras may be overheated due to battery temperature. ☺
Correct
Great work. Did you use the Sony tough v90 sd card? I wonder how much longer record times would be in different codecs.
Been waiting for this!
So…you keeping your pre-order? I’ve sent my A7iii off for trade-in. Until I seen this video and Andy escapes to today, I was buying the A7iv. Hmmmmm.
@@HANKBRAVO81 Yeah It's a non-issue for me personally. The longest I shoot is 10 min tops. My biggest concern is how the camera will perform with my stop-and-go style of shooting. Like, will it still overheat if I shoot for three minutes, then two, then another 5 minutes. Also, is 120p going to be possible? I might cancel my order and wait and see TBH.
@@noisackda2564 yeah that’s true. It’s more about heat building up in the body isn’t it? But, tbh, I can’t see it being an issue for 90% of its target audience. Start/stop recording bursts. Sony will be aware of the heat build up and will likely release 4K 120 along with revised heat management all round. Otherwise, it will be a complete fail. I’m inclined to wait and hold my store credit but longer I wait, the longer the pre-order list gets. Hmmmm. I’m in two minds. I can pick up an A7IV right now for less money.
@@HANKBRAVO81 You know what? Just get it and test it out, If it does overheat then return it. I think it's a standard 30-day return policy for most electronics. That's plenty of time to test.
@@noisackda2564 it’s what I’m leaning to. It will be great learning experience before stepping up to FX3. I looked at FX30 like yours (fantastic camera) but I love my Sigma 24-70 and want utilise it fully. People are concerned about this camera but just watch…the image and what people create is going to do all the talking. Look forward to your vlogs with it 👌🏻
Thank you for sharing another amazing video again, Jason! I love you shared the overheating data. I am now so confused about ZV-E1. This camera is amazing since it has A7s3 sensor and is able to take 4k 60 without crop and jello effects, but I can’t really use 4K60fps because of the overheating. 😢
If super long record times what you need I suggest FX30 or FX3
How come you are not mentioning the most obvious alternative, the a7sii?
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema
So potentially using this in a studio to do a talking head video you have about 30 mins before it overheats
In colder temps aircon room there is no issue. Only if the room is hot above regular room temp
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema uk we’ll be fine then 😂
Please find out how long it will run at 4k 60fps in 33 C before it over heats.
You may have to ask someone else. I specified I don’t do these tests
Hey Jason,
can you record internally and externally simultaniously with the atomos ninja 5 in 4k 60p with the sony e1?
I am afraid of loosing footage, when the sd card corrupts.
Thanks
Great video! Did you test at different file formats? I use XAVC S 4K. Record settings. 8 bit vs 10 bit.
Sorry no. Way too long to do this. Between each test I wait a couple of hours for the camera to return back to regular temp this these tests were over two weeks
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema thanks Jason!
I knew there had to be a trade off. Overheating is a bit of a deal breaker
What about these potential solutions?
1. When you hit record, wrap the camera in a small, thick WHITE BLANKET(wool or similar) acting as insulation to block the sunlight from heating up the camera, leave blanket open on bottom for air flow...
Wool is great because it is breathable but also insulates.
ALSO - If the camera is on a tripod, use an small UMBRELLA or object to block the sun. The solution to direct sunlight is BLOCKING the effects of direct sunlight, which is stronger than air temperature alone.
2. Open the LCD screen, put a small 1.5" USB fan on the back of the camera, to cool and circulate the air. Similar to what camera fans do.
3. Carry a small cooler with DRY ICE or sealed ice cubes, cut a hole for the lens to poke out. Don't use too much ice where it freezes of course, just a little. This idea is less practical, but it is an idea.
4. Build a shoebox sized insulated box, cut a hole for the lens, hit record and the light will be blocked from hitting the camera. Put a fan at the bottom to remove heat. Have a second hole for air to enter of course.
So basically, it is a compact camera when needed, which is great, but maybe there are custom solutions for long recording situations
These solutions sure make the camera more portable 😂
@@Giovanni-Giorgio I was suggesting that at times when you DON'T need the camera to be portable and fit in the pocket. Similar to buying a compact car with a trailer hitch. Some days you drive a compact car, but you have the option to attach a trailer and do more.
The main time one would do a long recording is in specific situations where they don't want the recording to stop unexpectedly.
That is hectic. I would just suggest to buy FX3 if longer record times are needed
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Of course, but that defeats the purpose of a compact camera that fits in your pocket. 95% of the time it is great as is, I was just thinking of the few times when someone might want an uncut long recording.
If someone has $2,100 in the bank to throw at a camera, they most likely have $ for the fx3. That is a LUXURY PURCHASE for many people
People are missing the point of a COMPACT camera which is ment to go with you everywhere, especially when traveling. Perhaps the Fx3 is small enough, maybe that might be considered a compact camera in a way. Not sure if it can fit in a person's jacket pocket.
@@ScalzoPhoto I get the idea of pocket sized cameras. But does it fit your pocket in reality. Sure the lenses are smaller for cameras like zv-e10. But mosr full-frame lenses tend to be a bit bigger (Except pancake prime lenses). I tried the zv-e10 but only with the tiny kitlens it fitted my jacket pocket. I carry a compact shoulder bag just big enough for the my a7iv + 24-70. I have the camera out just a bit slower than when it would be in my pocket. The a7iv doesn't feel that much bigger and i don't need a small cage for better grip. But that's personal. Wrapping the zv-e10 with materials doesn't make it portable and easy to handle. Taking a blanket or box with dry ice isn't either in my opinion. Maybe the usb fan works but it drains battery if the usb-c port on the camera body supports it, not sure. When using a rig with external battery it might work if you need to record longer walking around. Most of the time it sits on a tripod with longer record times i agree. But a tripod doesn't fit a pocket and you need that bag or strap. I might still buy a zv-e1 for b-roll.
Great video mate! It makes sense why they have not released 4k 120 fps for this camera. lol. I really wonder how much it will go on 60 fps at 35 degrees, maybe 5 minutes? One of the reasons why someone would prefer this camera over A7M4 or A7R5 could be its 60fps without a crop or 120 fps. They could have implemented a better heatsink atleast. fans would kill the battery life! Yeah then again, if they did that, it would have killed their A7s3 & FX3 cameras!
Would be nice to know if its better with dummy battery.
Normal situations it wasn’t
1:35 it’s all very nice… but if this for vloggers first and, because of it, there’s the excuse to overheat when used for longer times, well maybe no one would complain if the price would be much lower. But, in Europe, price is around 2700 euros and, for that price, we deserve a camera that does not behave so poorly in this chapter
Price can’t be lowered due to its specs compared to the rest. Buy FX3 if overheating is an issue
Do you have any information, or do you think A7RV will get the same of Autoframing like ZV-E1. I need that very bad and I am still waiting to decide which one I should get. But definitely, 10 min records time is not enough for me to get ZV-E1 🥺 I wich if at least 30 min minimum record time in the hot environment 😤
Thanks For your great work 👍
I feel like sony was so close but so far it’s sad. Manage a way for a $10 fan in the system a little bigger body to fit the fan and a second sd slot card and it would have been perfect
It’s not about the fan, it’s about the size. They wanted smaller size. For a fan they have FX3. That is everyone’s fix
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yes I’m just trying to find a camera for wedding film with the same specs and features as the Zv-e1 just with a dual sim slots
Oh yeah and not $4,0000
Hello, have you tried the camera with a dummy battery? I had problem with my Sony A7 III and overheating. I was devastated by this issue and researched a lot at the time. A lot of people were giving advice to fold out the screen and having the battery lid open but that only gave some extra time. The thing that made it record for unlimited time was using a dummy battery.
streaming times in 1080????
What card were you using during the tests? Native Sony card? If you didn’t, would you test this? Curious!
Does the white one overheat less?
I wonder how much it would actually cost Sony to put a cooling fan in there, especially since they managed to do it for the FX3, which uses the same sensor. Why would they put that kind of sensor in a body like that without some method to cool it down?
Nobody is talking about overheating performance in Full HD?
IN FULL HD IS OVERHEADING?
FX30/3 heat test?
No point. They have internal fans
I wonder if you can cool it by blowing air in the battery opening?
I mainly captured video my kid and travel. I do slomo 120 fps to help stablize the footage. Should I get the E1 or a7siii? I like the small form factor though.
My zve1 turn off 10 minutes 😢
So I guess if you got a black one, outdoor it would heat up faster? Would be interesting to see if black vs white matter in camera color
I did the outdoor overheating test and it didn’t seem to matter what Color
Can the ZV E1 film in 2k res? 😮
Is this karma for Sony Users making fun of the Canon R5’s overheating? 😂
Thank you for the info! I was thinking of pairing this with my other Sony Cameras for an additional angle but I am often running my cameras for well over an hour. Now I am leaning toward the FX3 and A7S III.
FX3 for sure
Gerald lives in British Columbia.., Canada.. right? so i can't see there being much humidity.. while in Australia, its probably hot AF..
So,, I got a Z Cam S6 recently.., i plan to use that for any pro work, and the ZV-E1 for personal stuff for UA-cam when on my own.. but it would be nice to do lol passion projects with it.. I'm thinking maybe the white one would be better for outdoors so it doesn't absorb heat as much (how big of a difference it will make, idk..)
but either way,, your numbers are way different than Geralds.. could his have been a little more polished? aren't they both technically prototype/reviewer versions? hmm... the consistency or lack thereof., is a bit unsettling... and then considering you got 5 more minutes record time after the initial overheat, very bizarre.. either way, glad to see more time being put into this.. there's so many videos up on this camera but everyone is trying to say the same things.., i'm glad you're trying to get more specific on what you're covering on it.. thanks
Yeah. I’m just trying to add more data points for people to see what it can do
Even at 720p 30fps streaming as a webcam via usbc it overheated around 25 minutes.
Which codes create most heat?
How good is the full HD or this cameras? It over heat un HD?
What are you talking about? You said the ZV-1 does 4k 15 frames per second? Cameras don't record video at 15 frames per second. The ZV-1 is capable of 4k 24, 4k 25 and 4k 30 frames per second.
Used as a livestream camera
Streaming. In this section I was talking about streaming
too much to worry about for the price... a proper heatsink would have made the camera slighty bigger but at least usable in all conditions. a toy with premium internals for a premium price.
Where is the fix?
External record
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema so, buy a $2200 camera, a $800 ff lens, and some $400 recorder to vlog around your house (im exaggerating, but it was shown in sony's presentation video). if sony's main idea was to make the camera small, how will it be small anymore with an external recorder attached? and what vloggers know how to handle that?
about a $3500 setup. who are those vloggers able to afford this?
and about what u said about price being not possible to be lower due to specs.. nobody asked for fx3's sensor in a vlogger camera. given the choice between a more normal ff sensor and fx3, while making the camera actually affordable for vloggers, i think its obvious what ppl would have chosen.
and about that fx3 sensor, who films at 12,800 anyways? more usable would have been 3,200 or 4,000 like in a7iv or s5. afaik, fx3 is outperformed by those cameras at values under 12,800. what, are vloggers filming at night mainly?
youtubers are pushing this too hard. let it go, its a failed product..
@@skepsys I’m just giving people info about it. Who else is? 🤷🏽♂️
@@skepsys Amen!
Great for Panama 🇵🇦..., all year 28 - 36 degrees
Jason, doe shooting in HLG3 mode makes it get hotter than s-log or cinetone? Thanks.
Hello! What about 4K 24fps but 4.2.0 ? 🙂
Does it overheat on 1080@60?
Now imagine Sony made this camera 5mm thicker and indoor overheating wouldn't be a thing.
can you record simultaneously on the atoms ninja v and the sd ?
what is good camera to buy in the 1500 range but I am open to spend a little more if I am going to get better quality camera
Hi Jason, thanx a lot for the video and the test!
Could somebody tell me if 1080p is ok during 3 hours?
I already own 2 fx3 and a A7iv.
I do pro multicamera and conferences.
I pre-order the zv-e1 for my "top shots" or "gimbal shots".
But i wish it will record for long in hd!!!
Anyway i will sell it if not...
I live in france so it sometimes hot...but not always..
Thanxxxxx!!
Yes. 1080p it is fine. Much longer record times. Big difference between 1080 and 4k
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema How big exactly? I record in 1080p a lot and I need at least 3 to 4 hours of constant recording with no issues.
