I don’t know why people argue about spotting so much like it’s fucking rocket science. Whenever I spot someone, I keep my hands hovering or just barely touching the bar. You won’t be able to react quick enough without your hands close to the bar. On that note, I always encourage the person I’m spotting by saying something along the lines “All you!” etc.
Got to hate when you ask for a spotter just incase the weight comes back down and he ends up spotting half of your rep and you walk off with that unsatisfied feeling
gt3017 I actually had a guy I made friends with in college that was the star football player, super strong and all and he still touched the bar during spotting. I was like dude, I know you could kick my ass and I should be taking advice from you but don't touch the damn bar!

Hell im 5'3, 175 pounds and have no doubt in my mind that if I took steroids I could achieve this. I weigh 175 and bench max 385. . Not to mention I don't even lift on a true training basis because I'm in the military and weight training impairs my lower back for the run on the PT test. If I didn't have to do cardio on a regular basis through out the week for PT every morning, there's NO DOUBT in my mind that if I jumped up to 185 body weight that my bench press would shoot up to atleast 425-450. Pound for pound yes, i have good genetics. . And i only eat one meal a day. . But with that being said, there's no doubt in my mind that he could even hit 405 on incline if he didn't take steroids.
The spotter was sooo scared that he started touching the bar when it was not needed. I have been lifting for a long time now and that's one of the things that is still difficult to find is a good spotter. MAN! Makes me made when I see it because to me its like stealing reps from me....
