he literally kept the same speed right until 45 like normally when u see dudes do 40-50 reps on 2 plates their speed stops around 25-30 he kept it almost all the way this is some serious strength right here
The funny thing about "half reps" when you're 6'2 is that they're still a greater range of motion than the short guy's full rep. Though, I was comparing the average height of bar travel during the reps he was busting out vs the max height he ever reached at 1:03, and it's about 3 inches higher. Not a wild difference though.
As much as I'd like to knock his accomplishment to feel better about myself for not being able to do the same, like everybody seems to be doing on this video, this was awesome! I love how idiots say he's bouncing it or not locking it out as if that makes this super easy or something... If anything, locking it out each rep would give his muscles a break, making it easier. Respect.
I have a feeling he was 'dropping' the weight on the negative rep, rather than resisting it, and if you aren't doing the negative rep, you're only doing half the exercise.
The thing about locking out a press is that it stresses the triceps a lot, and if you have a lot of pressing in your program then it is easy to overtrain the triceps and ultimately even tear your triceps attachment. Hence, there are clear advantages to skipping the lockouts some of the time. Of course, this isn't a problem for most people because they are not strong enough to be using enough weight for it to be dangerous in any way.
It's not about locking out. It's about endurance and how many explosive movements you can complete. The NFL bench press test is to measure this. They don't care about a one rep max. That's why they are NFL players and not powerlifters.
Everyone saying "not full reps" or "not real reps" don't know what they're talking about. When doing more than 15 reps, doing a full extensions every time put a lot of strain on your elbow joints in particular and can possibly lead to joint damage. Even when doing a normal bench press set between 3 and 8 reps, a full lockout is not required to build the most muscle and get the most power. The last lockout portion is really all triceps and is good to do, but not with high reps.
I KNEW you would tell me F = m x a, which is only for the ASCENDING part. Why? Because that's where kinetic energy gets into play, while at the descend when you do nothing only gravity plays a role and you put no force out at all. And if you actually think: most people when doing fast reps aren't ''braking'', they are bouncing like I said before. And even if they are: braking < total descendforce when slowly performed. That's the reason we do slow descend and fast ascend. F=mg and then F=ma
@pumitaproductions another way is build up to a higher weight at a particular rep range, say 8-12 reps @ 300 then lower the weight to 225 and crank out reps. Then use that new rep range to work up to 300 again (lets say 15-20 reps @ 300) and repeat the process.
You can do 495 x 1 and not be very big But if you can 225 x 50 you're swole guaranteed. The secret is right there. Fitness magazines no longer necessary.
Stan B got 225 for 67 reps at Brits Brothers Gym in Greenville SC on 3.13.2011 as part of a Muscular Dystrophy fundraiser. Like Brits on Facebook to see the video.
working out with him two summers ago, it would have blown my mind to know he'd be doin this now...you should have seen ian durin our high school days....played QB and free safety so use youre imagination
You guys act like this is so crazy, but he's benching 81 percent of his body weight, so to put it in perspective that's me who weighs 123 benching 100.5 lbs for 50 reps. I'm not saying its not heavy ass weight though.
He's not bouncing the weight at all. Look at it closely. It'd be like you putting an incredibly easy amount of weight on the bar and repping it as fast as you could. It's so light to him that he can rep it that fast. This is obviously prep for the NFL combine, which is strictly amount of reps completed at 225lbs.
dude ian hoskins needs to just go to the nfl. i dont know why he isnt somewhere now. but he NEEDS TO BE CAREFUL. being too strong and too big makes u lack agility and maneuverability. hes at a good weight for his position but i wouldnt get much larger. but yet work on agility more. and keep the strength where it is.
This is no doubtedly impressive but it's hard to gauge how he ranks among others because none of these would count at an official combine because he stops just short of a complete ROM at the top. Still, it doesn't take away from the great performance and awesome muscular endurance.
I wasn't trying to downplay his achievements or his strength, just saying that if you don't fight against the weight on the downwards motion, you're only doing half the exercise.
Good lifts bro im seriously impressed. From a real lifter myself I understand the struggle of Haters! Good Lord people...I guarantee 98 percent of the people leaving comments like "not real reps...waiting on the 1st rep...incorrect form" are people who could NOT even attempt to do this. They use excuses like that to justify them only getting 8 to 10 reps at 225. You know im right if you'd be honest with yourselves! Strength is strength and 50 reps at 225 with no bands, sling shot, or tight elbow wraps is impressive period.
Thats awesome but in Pro scouts they probably would of counted only 47 or maybe lower. Most of the time they are strict with the extension and a few were suspect.
@spareaxe it doesn't matter, we are the same species. it's not like we are comparing a cats strength to human strength. that is a different ball game. a human man is a human man, the stronger for your size thing doesn't add up when comparing human strength.
I'm a 17 year old lineman and I got 225 for 47 last week at the high school combine. I also squatted 850 twice, I bet I could push this guy off the ball b/c he got tiny legs, lol. I also can curl 225 6 times with perfect form, so i'm not all chest and legs
@studywar - It's a VERY impressive performance and I'm not bashing it but I don't see where you get that he was at full lock out on any of those 50 reps
thats pretty impressive when you think that some of the fittest players in the nfl get maybe 40 reps tops and those are the BEST. Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett only got 26 and he's sufficiently jacked.
he literally kept the same speed right until 45 like normally when u see dudes do 40-50 reps on 2 plates their speed stops around 25-30 he kept it almost all the way this is some serious strength right here
so many haters out there, but that was a beast lift! great set!
+Solomon Rexius So many half reps out there as well.
@@meyerfire21 still pretty sure you can't lift one.
@@indeed2207 you know what they say when you assume.....
Hes,making that look like 135
Making in look like the bar
He just made my old max bench look like a warm up. Awesome.

best iv ever seen prob hope to see him go somewhere

The form is perfect, you can damage or put wear and tear on your elbows by "locking" out. Pause it and see that he's just short of "locking" out.

This vid is sick, much respect!
Damn, that is totally impressive.
What a freaking beast
Can't mess with that football strength

Nice job man!

like a boss!!! damn big as hell!!
I'm working my way up to that. On Friday I did this for 42 reps. All of you critics dont know how to tough this is.
the one handed lift off= second biggest douch move in the gym just shy of the one handed spot

i hope you are right coz i just got back from the gym and dude in the video just killed my confidence
that's fucking incredible,
Love how they start cheering him on when he starts to struggle! True team to push each other
Wow he throws that around!! Niiiiceee

nice.. very impressive

I wish my bench form was like that
damn hes throwin that shit up likes its 25s
I'll get there one day
IT'S OVER 9000!!!
now that's power.... i can't even do 1 rep with that weight
nice range of motion
very nice

yes
it is when you throw 225 around like its your toothbrush
cody slate formally of marshall went to my high school
that is crazy man, damn im going to be a freshman and i can only do that once
counted the reps for him
Clean as fuck. Respect.
@pumitaproductions yeah but with pushups your Feet/toes are resting on the ground,
so all the weight isnt being pushed up by your arms.
beast
there is research supporting both fast and slow reps

Legit reps
This is the best high rep 225 benching video I've seen. Most of the vids on youtube are half reps where this guy just about locks out on every rep.
@czoraa21 it's not about lifting alot of weight...it's about endurance
This is no doubtedly impressive but it's hard to gauge how he ranks among others because none of these would count at an official combine because he stops just short of a complete ROM at the top. Still, it doesn't take away from the great performance and awesome muscular endurance.
omg and he still is under 300lbs and still in college, whoa.
totally agree tension on the chest all the time pepole havent a clue half the time
monster
I wasn't trying to downplay his achievements or his strength, just saying that if you don't fight against the weight on the downwards motion, you're only doing half the exercise.
intense yo
yes what do you think.
can YOU do it? didn't think so...
Nice!
Don't mess with the gym silencer.
damn i did 225 eight times today and i was happy as hell. this is a bad Mo Fo'.
hes on sauce
This is a BP endurance test for the NFL Combine. Not some bodybuilding bullshit.
WTFFFFFFF, it takes him exactly one minute to do 50 reps of 225? It takes me one minute to tie my damn shoes
Good lifts bro im seriously impressed. From a real lifter myself I understand the struggle of Haters! Considering only one person has beaten that record at the NFL combine I'd say it's pretty fucking impressive
Good job
You should do 50 reps of your weight minus 40. You're probably very small compared to this guy so it should be easy!
perfect form.
i hit 32 yesterday... now i feel like a shrimp
wow he just did my max 50 times. that tells me i have a lot of work to do
Never is it EVER ok to give a one-handed spot.
That's great work bro. Impressive
Thats awesome but in Pro scouts they probably would of counted only 47 or maybe lower. Most of the time they are strict with the extension and a few were suspect.
thats like saying a guy that weighs 500lbs should be benching 405 like nothing
I might have hit it 50 times, but 27 is damn good. Check me out...Glendrick bench pressing 225.
@ReignzOfBrainz im not saying this isnt impressive, because it is, but still. form is VERY important
@spareaxe it doesn't matter, we are the same species. it's not like we are comparing a cats strength to human strength. that is a different ball game. a human man is a human man, the stronger for your size thing doesn't add up when comparing human strength.
hes subed in my class before
I'm a 17 year old lineman and I got 225 for 47 last week at the high school combine. I also squatted 850 twice, I bet I could push this guy off the ball b/c he got tiny legs, lol. I also can curl 225 6 times with perfect form, so i'm not all chest and legs
nice
that's impressive. it probably equates to a 1 rep max of well over 500lbs
damn thats crazy I cant even do 50 pushups in a row.
@studywar - It's a VERY impressive performance and I'm not bashing it but I don't see where you get that he was at full lock out on any of those 50 reps
broly is that you?
a 225 rep test with full range reps :O :O
thats fuken beast right there
same here man
thats amazing good inspiration
thats pretty impressive when you think that some of the fittest players in the nfl get maybe 40 reps tops and those are the BEST. Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett only got 26 and he's sufficiently jacked.
I expected half reps. These were full. Wholy shit. respect
the pants did it brah
wow. actual good form
WOW!
BOB!!!!!!!!!
for his weight, he should be doing this many.
Thats whats up
i think i can barely do just the bar for 50 reps... going to try it next time
