As a little girl, I heard this more than once in Anglo music radio stations. It was intermitently in my head through many, many years. And yet I could never find it no matter how much I googled and searched... .. Until today. Today, I FINALLY FREAKING FOUND IT! Thank you, Alannah, now I'll never forget about your song!
Yesss, same here. I was eleven years old when this song used to play on the radio in 1993. I would sometimes wake up to this song in the morning for school and instead of hitting the snooze button, I would listen to the whole song as a gradually woke up. I was never able to find the song since then until I heard it playing in loblaws today and shazammed it!
I had been searching for the artist/title of this mysterious song for AT LEAST 8 YEARS now ... I could only remember the melody but never the actual lyrics ... I even hummed it to people, but always to no avail. I was afraid I’d go the rest of my life without (re) discovering the song I had heard endless times in my younger days ... and when I step in my car just now, the song plays ...shocked beyond words, I Shazam it INSTANTLY.... God is good! Finally!!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This is one of the best songs of the 90 'that I think has been and continues to be underrated. And my God! That ending is a stab in the middle of the chest without a knife.
С чего ты взял , что это недооценённая песня, если в 1992 году вышел второй альбом Майлз Rockinghorse с хитами «Song Instead of a Kiss», «Our World, Our Times» и «Sonny, Say You Will». За альбом она была номинирована на «Грэмми» и получила три награды «Juno»
That kind of song, like a lullaby, where she serves as your mother, giving you comfort and safety. Especially the phrases "for all of you [...] who need so much". And she's giving. Love.
This reminds me of living in a (kind of) rural area, when I was younger. I opened my roofwindow short after midnight, and listened to this song, and gazed at the stars and the backgarden. It was not always a good time for me, by then. But those nights comforted me. I often wish I was back in my bedroom in my former parents house... just for a part of the night there.
That's the ting with music, Erik. It can capture the moment... and years later, it can still transport us in our minds to those earlier times. I do that constantly. That is why I listen to so much music from the 80s and 90s.
There's nothing else that keeps and preserves the emotions better than such music. The pain and despair in this performance is so profound that it breaks my heart even now, when I listen to it, even though it's been years since I actually felt such emotions. Brilliant performance. One of the most emotional songs EVER.
She'd split with Robert Plant at this time. He'd written 29 Palms about their stay in that California desert town. "When I hear your voice on the radio" and "your velvet glove"
The best rock ballad ever ! I have searched for it since 20 years without knowing the lyrics and who sings it . Today someone helped me to find it again! Amazing !
From the very first haunting chorus to Alannah's passionate closing note, this song moves me. It touches my soul. Her beauty is matched only by her talent as a singer. What shame Atlantic Records chose to exploit her instead of supporting her.
This is very personal. Song makes me cry rivers. It reminds me of my big love, I got rejected. That was in 1992, that's now 32 years ago and still hurts!
I forgot about this song until today, when it summed up my situation perfectly. Thank you Alannah Myles for being the voice that I needed to hear today. 💙💙💙
Her voice and musical arrangement transports me to a new world where for a few minutes, apprehensions is no more and hope and joy is teeming. It massages the soul the heart and mind and sends us back recovered. Thanks Alanah, you were a remarkable woman of superb artistry. Greetings from Fiji 🇫🇯
Shes 61, I'm 20 years younger than her and I would still absolutely shoot my shot if I ever had half a chance. The rock voice, piercing eyes and tumbled mass of dark hair. Timeless and gorgeous.
Perfect COVID-19 song. Of all the famous beauties, she is the woman that brings out my envy. Great stage presence, great voice, and allowed one hit. She must have said “no” to the wrong person.
Why so you say one hit? She had a ton of hits here in Canada. Heard her music non stop on the radio growing up, her music still plays on oldie stations.
@@amandaw1640 EVEN now it is difficult to find her music on UA-cam in the USA. Only after I read some of the responses and started to enter the names of her albums could I listen to any other song! Another Canadian that is difficult to find is Jane Child. “ I Don’t Want to Fall in Love” is all that we hear in the USA.
Listen to the goosebumps symphonic intro of the album version not featured in the video. One of the best songs and albums (Rocking Horse) of all time. Our World Our Times and Sonny Say You Will are two other absolutely fantastic tracks. Once again I realize that the greatest artists are not appreciated by the business they way they deserve. For new fans, check out masterpieces like Lover of Mine, Love Is, and Still Got This Thing to name a few. May you soon be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Congrats with Black Velvet being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame. If someones asks me to give them an immaculate example of good female rock with super talented musicians, powerful and creative production with an iconic voice and performer, this is it! Love you and thank you, Alannah!
This tune certainly takes you to another dimension... The way she controls her voice, the high and low pitched tones, that indescribable emotional tone...
I love you and your beautiful voice. You will be given back all that you have lost. You deserve the best. This is my favourite song... thank you for blessing the world with your beauty. Loads of love to you.
For all of us we strongly feel that a so unique and so special Kiss is like a whole world existing in it, then that superb and lovely song is for sure for us :)
Song instead of a kiss, baby this is a song instead of a kiss For all of you who ache, who long for nights like this Song instead of a touch, darlin' this is a song instead of a touch To all of you who wait so long and need so much It is for those who like to cling, it is to those, to those I sing Here is a song instead of a clutch, instead of a moon Instead of a soothing touch in the afternoon It is for those who like to cling, it is to those, to those I sing Here is a song instead of a clutch, instead of a moon Instead of a soothing touch in the afternoon
How divinely she plays with her voice in the choruses of the song, now raising it, now lowering it. This especially touches the soul at 1:31 and 2:28 minutes. Emotionally to the point of tears
Well, the video used to be up over a decade ago, I’m sure it would’ve had millions of views by now… It seems that it was re-posted six years ago, I never understand why that happens.
When I was a kid, I remember my Dad being obsessed with this song. I had to buy him the casette tape for Christmas so he could listen to it in the car.

A song in 1992 ...we were too young...
Yes, couldn't agree more,
Shazam rules!
And when it identifies a song
despite being in loud surroundings,
I'm amazed every time.

Absolutely devastatingly awesome track. The video is unforgettable. I can listen to this song a hundred times never tiring of it.
This is one of those songs that burrows into your psyche and attaches to your soul. Once you hear it, it's with you for life. Thank you Alannah.

There are so many great music artists like Alannah Myles that should have to be recognized. They just needs more promotions.
Extremely underated, beautiful lady, beautiful song

Petko Petkov i went through the exact same plight!!! And I accidentally stumbled upon it today, after a near decade of searching for the song!!!
Alannah Myles Instead of a kiss.. awesome.. magnificent..
me too, only 4 years ago i have learned after wandering at least 10 years.
This song should have been huge

One of the most beautiful song in pop history. After all thoose years... In the same mood, love when i hear it. Love u Alannah.
I had this album and her debut album on cassette as a little kid... like this song is my childhood. My Canadian Goddess...
The Most Beautiful pair of eyes, video, and voice in Canadian Rock History.
The Most Beautiful pair of eyes in the whole damn world...
Beautiful, underrated song, gets better with age.
awfull sound quality !

Hugely underrated song from '92. Remember buying it on CD single here in the UK and was disappointed it never became a hit.
daftlad because Atlantic Records exploited her then screwed her over.
The Queen of Canadian Rock, Toronto Loves you Alannah ❤❤❤

Chillingly beautiful
Великолепная и одна из немногих певиц , которых я люблю, не устаю ее слушать и каждый раз от ее исполнения поражаюсь и нахожусь в состоянии шока!!!
Still beautiful and haunting after all these years. 🖤

Alannah Myles should have been a much bigger star. She had the looks and the talent. Hopefully, she’ll produce more albums soon.
